E16 5th Wheel Jaw

Simple, Secure Hookup

With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.

R16 5th Wheel Roller

Non-Binding R16 Roller

Specially designed for trucks with 6' to 8' beds, this non-binding slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Curt Fifth Wheel 16516 Review

Today we're going to review part number 16516. This is the Curt E16 fifth wheel trailer hitch on the Curt R16 roller. This is a slide bar jar design hitch and has a 16,000 pound weight capacity. For demonstration purposes I do have the slider and the hitch head mounted on some base rails with the mounting brackets just to show you how it looks installed in a vehicle. The rails and the mounting brackets are sold separately on our web site. This is an auto locking slide bar jaw mechanism right here. Provides superior security. Has the rear steel tension bar right here that works with the slide bar to clamp around the king pin.

Minimizes rattle and movement. Right here they do have holes on these tabs here that you can actually lock this handle if you want with a padlock. The padlock we would sell separately. This head has a 4-position height adjustment for multiple towing applications. You can set it to the correct height for your application. This dual-pivoting head goes front to back, has a 10-degree lateral movement of the skid plate for simple hook-up. Does use permalube pivot bushings to increase your hitch life and reduce maintenance. This anti-rattle skid plate right here provides smooth, quiet ride. We do recommend a nylon move plate, which we sell separately on our web site, to use on your king pin of your 5th wheel trailer.

This will help prevent scratches on the skid plate and let your king pin glide smoothly into the hitch during hook-up. This hitch is a sturdy steel construction with a carbide black finish. The slider itself, this will help eliminate clearance problems during slow speed turns with this non-binding slider. This provides 12 inches of travel from front to back. It is designed to fit truck beds between 6 foot and 8 foot in length. This will provide clearance which is required for your short bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds, prevents your trailer from hitting the cab of your truck during sharp, slow speed turns.

It does slide smoothly on these rounded non-binding rods. Again I mentioned it's designed for use on trucks on beds shorter than 8 foot, but not recommended for use on truck beds shorter than 6 foot. The base rails and installation kit I mentioned are sold separately. This will mount onto industry standard rails made by Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Pro Series Reese, and Valley. On the installation kit, which is the mounting bracket that mounts to the frame of your vehicle, we do recommend to make the installation a lot easier to use a custom fit or vehicle specific bracket kit. We do list those on our web site.

If you put your year and model vehicle in, it will tell you if there's one available. If there is, we do recommend to use it. It saves you about half the installation time, mainly because the mounting brackets would have holes drilled that would use existing holes in your truck frame. The slider is constructed of a durable, carbide powder-coated steel. This part number does come with the pins and clips which are used to run through the rails. Once you drop your slider into the rail, the pins and clips would hold it into place. Also comes with 4 of these rubber sound dampeners. Basically they have slots in them. Basically what those would be used for is before you drop your slider into the opening, there's a tab on it. These would go onto that tab on each corner. Drop it into the rails. Tighten it down with your pin and clips and these will help eliminate any rattle or noise with your slider mounted to your rails. The gross towing weight capacity of this is 16,000 pounds. The vertical load weight or pin weight capacity is 4,000 pounds. Again the height can be adjusted from 15 to 17 inches. Travel is 12 inches front to back. I just want to give you a demonstration on how the hitch works and how the slider works. Right now the slide bar is closed. What you want to do when you're ready to hook up, lift your handle straight up, just pull it out. Once you pull it out enough it would lock into position. This tension bar will hold that slide bar open. Basically I have a demonstration. This is an example of a king pin that would be attached on your fifth wheel. Once that slides in, it will push up against this tension bar and that will release the slide bar. When it does that, you can see that slide bar goes across and that tension bar would still keep tension on the king pin. Just move your handle down to where these tabs line up. You can lock it or put a pin and clip through there and that handle wouldn't move. You're ready to go. One last thing I want to show you on the head before I forget. Another nice feature on this is if you're by yourself and you want to remove it from the truck bed, nobody around to help you, has these pins and clips that hold this head onto the cross member. You just pop the clip off, pull the pin out. Do the same over here. You can lift that head out separately. Lift the cross member out separately and then the slider out separately. Makes it easier for just one person around. We'll go ahead and attach this back. Slide it on. There we go. I'm going to show you, demonstrate the slider on it. Basically right now it is locked in the towing position. Towing position would be the closest to the cab. Where I'm standing would be the cab of your tow vehicle. If you notice the color coding, the green is showing. That means it's locked in the towing position. It's not moving. Over here would be red if it wasn't locked. I'll show you that. When you pull this out and you're going to go to maneuvering position, just pull out on your handle. When you pull out on your handle, just turn it a little bit counterclockwise and that will move that tab out of the way, allow it to slide and you'll see the red showing. The green is not showing so it's not locked. This would slide back to the tailgate, give you more maneuvering position. Once you hit that cutout there, it would slide in, lock it into place. The red's not showing. The green is so it's locked in maneuvering so it's moved the 12 inches away from the cab of your vehicle. When you're done maneuvering and you want to go back into the towing position, again we'll just pull this handle out and this time we'll move it clockwise which will put the tab toward the tow vehicle. The reason you do that is because then, again it's showing red, no green, so again this slides into the towing position. Once it hits those tabs, locks into position. No red. You see the green over here so you're locked and ready to tow. That should do it for the review on part number 16516, the Curt E16 fifth wheel trailer hitch on the Curt R16 roller in a 16,000 pound weight capacity. .

Hi,I am looking at this particular hitch set up Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w R16 Roller - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for 2007 Toyota Tundra - Gloss Finish Part Numbers: 16516, C16468-104I am in the process of looking at hitch options but I would like to know the exact weight of the hitch when assembled together. How much does this hitch weigh? Thanks.

-- comment by: Patrik K - 01/16/2014

Our shipping weight is 216 pounds. I called my contact over at Curt and assembled outside of the boxes, it tips the scales at a bit over 200 pounds. There are a few things that make up the extra weight over other designs. The bars that the slider system use are solid round stock, not hollow tubes, that are secure to plate steel bases. The legs are made of plate steel rather than stamped. All of these adds up to put the hitch at about 50 pounds heavier than other similar setups.

Its very well made and works great. I would buy this again. I have had no problems with it, very happy.

Excellent product. Installation wasn't to bad, did take some time but overall wasn't horrible. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but works flawlessly. I chose this hitch for two reasons. 1. It's a simple yet reliable design from a great manufacturer. 2. I needed the lower height adjustment than the Q series offered. My '06 dodge doesn't have any aftermarket suspension parts but I do run 285 70/17 tires and it does sit a little bit higher. Glad I did because the lower height adjustment is almost perfect. I highly recommend getting a lube plate to go with any fifth wheel hitch, very cheap and no mess. As far as goes. This is the best place I've ever ordered from. Great communication and very fast shipping. The hitch arrived days faster than expected even with the bad weather delays. You can't go wrong with this item or this company. I will definitely be ordering from here in the future and will be buying more Curt products. 238344

This is the best hitch Ive ever used. Very simple and smooth. Not one issue so far! Would buy it again!

I ordered on a Monday and got the equipment on Wed. I started the installation Wed after noon. Finished Thur. about 11:00 am. I did all the work myself with a little help from my son on holding the U bolts. I am 75.5 years old and had no trouble with the instructions. Thanks. PS Added the Jeep picture for fun. 184654

So here I am 1 year later and 7000 + miles later having towed/hauled a 30' Keystone Cougar with the Curt E16K hitch and bed rails. I installed the item and it was fairly easy with the help of a friend to help tighten bolts and nuts. On the rails I have the E16K Curt Hitch in a 2007 - 2500 Dodge Ram Cummins. I used to remove the Hitch after every trip. That lasted for the first 2-3 times. It is darn heavy to remove and put back in. So now I leave it installed in the truck and remove it when/if I need to haul something in the bed. Hope this helps your decision and Happy Hauling :o) 307813

This is my first hitch. I decided to go this route after finding out the dealership wanted over 1500 to install rails hitch and plug. Install was not too aweful bad I did the install in about 4 hours of everything. I took my time so nothing would be screwed up. The install videos where awesome and very discriptive. 346172

I've only towed my camper once with my new hitch so far and it worked just fine, when i bought it, it arrived on time and in good shape, the only little problem i had was part of the steel under the release handle wasn't painted so when it rained rusty water came out the handle tube and kind of stained my rubber bed liner, but it was an easy fix. anyway i'm happy with it ! P.S. the vehicle specific frame mount makes the set-up much quicker and eaiser than the universal mount . 305663

The unit was as described and installed without a hitch (no pun intended). This unit went into a new GMC 1500 and we did not have to cut anything to install the mounting bolts -- but it was a bear to get the nuts on the bolts and then tighten. I used a universal (free) installation kit and we had to weld the braces to the frame. eTrailer always delivers on time and so far always with the correct product - wouldn't think of going to any other company. 206872

Great kit. Bolted together quickly! The boxes being heavy caused holes to be punched into the boxes. This caused a nut to go missing for the hitch release handle. 448195

The hitch is easy to put together as I have a 2016 2500hd I had to bolt it inn the very top holes to clear my box. There seems to be alot of plat in the king pin lock a clank and clunk starting and stopping. Id buy from etrailer again they are a great company this product was built for what I paid its a middle of the road hitch. I will upgrade at some point 377732

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

The Product was nice and worth the money, the packaging for shipping was really poor. The shipping was very fast but when we received it, one part was damaged with dents and scratches. We are very unsatisfied with that. We paid 400 for a hitch that is damaged and will rust. The parts in the hitch box were not wrapped for protection. Also, instead of putting it in a box that fit, they staples a million staples to make a box around the factory box. It was very unprofessional. Pretty upset for the money we spent. 413611

Very quality unit. Only had trouble with handle mounting as the tube was turned 180 degrees and I put handle on as instructions said and it was not lined up with grooves to pull hitch lock out. Took top back off and seen this so removed handle and put on in up position instead of down and was able to pull to line up grooves with slots and release hitch lock and lock it in down as it should be. Works real good and sets secure in rails and in hitch top. Real good fit with no rattles going down road when nothing is hitched. 222508

Real good, handles any camper and works smooth.

Well packed, free 5 days shipping, easy to assemble and nice looking hitch. Im extra amazed because i can remove the king pin base/head from the bridge leg assembly to easily transport them. Still not tested with the coach. Practically no lateral movement and have the suspicion bushings. Very firm and easy mechanisms. Do not leave the gate open for long term because could damage the main spring. I plan to pull a 11k 334FWFLS. Nothing compared to this hitch in this price range. I will add some extra feedback after couple travels. 450600

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

What a great experience! I was looking for a "basic" new 5th wheel hitch to replace my aging Lill Rocker by RBW; the Curt E16 looked to be very similar. I found a Curt E16 at a local RV dealer and decide to check with before purchasing. To my amazement, the price on etrailers was half of the dealer price. Moreover, the customer service at was above my expectations. I called to see how long it would take an order to arrive to my location (planning a trip and needed the new hitch in 3 to 4 days). Sandy was very helpful and assured me the hitch would arrive in time for my trip. Not only did I receive the hitch in great condition, it came a day earlier than I thought. Based on such a great first experience with, I will be purchasing from them again! 289116

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

This is a very basic hitch. Very simple to install and use. However, with the head not being fully articulating, its a very noisy hitch. Plenty of rattle, clank and chucking. The chucking can be a bit alarming. It worked well enough for our small 22' 5er but since stepping up to a 34' trailer and 12,000#, I decided to upgrade to a B&W Patriot. If you're on a tight budget and have smaller lighter trailer, this will get the job done but Id have gone with a better jaw type hitch over the slide bar had I known better at first. The custom install kit for my 2013 Silverado 3500 long bed was amazing in fit. You need to be a little handy to install it but its well worth the extra few $$. The installation instructions are adequate but could be a little clearer. 300491

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

Due to the low price of this hitch I was wary of its quality, but now after 1 year of use with a 30' Jayco fifth wheel and sometimes double towing with a 3000 lb trailer behind the 5th wheel I have complete confidence in this hitch. I installed it in a 2014 Ram 2500 with Ram Boxes using a Reese Sidewinder. The only modification I had to make was shortening the release handle due to the narrow bed with the Ram Boxes. Other than that this hitch combined with the sidewinder I can turn the camper and truck just over 90 degrees with absolutely no clearance problems and without the need for a slider hitch. The only problem at first was the hitch was somewhat tight but as it wears that tightness is getting better. Overall a well made hitch for a good price. 267066

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

As a first timer towing a 27' fifth wheel, I was really nervous. And it didn't help that the people who installed my hitch threw away the directions. Thankfully technology and YouTube came to the rescue with a video on EXACTLY how to hitch up. And once I figured out that the jaws have to be opened to accept the kingpin, I was well and truly set. The hitch worked like a dream and hooking up was easy. Yesterday, I did it all by myself using the rearview mirror. Thank you so much for a wonderful, easy to use product. I am no longer nervous about hitching, unhitching and towing. Now if you have another product to help with the whole backing up thing..... 254388

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

The product went in my truck just fine but the instructions were not the best to read. I wish that the company would of gave me an orthographic blue print instead of an isometric. "2D instead of 3D". A video would of been great to see some of the tricks. But all in all everyting went pretty well. It took me from 3:30pm to 10:30pm to get it put in. Once I did the first side the second side went much faster. Make sure the brackets are not flipped around so you don't add extra holes like I did. The box was complete distroyed when it arrived. I think that every thing is in operational shape won't know until I hook up. 186424

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

Simple well built product. Easy to assemble for use (about 15 min). The way I did it was to Assemble loosely at first, Then pin the hitch on the rails. After that I tightened everything up. I put the adjustment to highest position then I would adjust downward to get the the truck and trailer level. I found putting the hitch to its highest and then adjust the pin box as high as possible gave me the extra clearance I wanted between the tailgate and the trailer pin box bracket. I have one of those 5' 6" beds to deal with. Fit great. 359879

Not hard to install, Just hard for me due to recent surgery. Every thing fit and instructions were better than average. Chevy 2500HD, 8ft bed. Be sure to take the spare tire out before starting so you will have room under the truck. Can't beat etrailers prices and shipping. I've bought from them before and I'm sure I'll buy in the future. 225626

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

An entry level product, I first looked through the instructions and thought they were a little vague, but as I started assembling the unit, everything fell into place and I had no problems understanding what to do. I loved the price, the communication, and the results. I plan on using it next week with our toy hauler and I'm excited! 279362

Nice looking hitch and well made, I just installed it but haven't towed with it yet. etrailer shipped fast but UPS damaged the carton and the bolt kit was lost in transit. Customer service at etrailer was very helpful in getting a replacement kit shipped now all is good. I would not hesitate to do business with them again. 357694

I am very pleased with my purchase from etrailer. I bought a fifth wheel hitch to haul my fifth wheel trailer and have had no problems with the installation or using it and have had it one year. I used it once and sold it. There was slack at the lock and every time you took off there was a jerk. I have used several brands over the years and never experienced this. I would not recommend this product to anyone, you get what you pay for, this product is priced low and performance is low in my experience. 355372

Review from a similar Curt E5 in Fifth Wheel

I love my 5th Wheel Hitch, At first i was hesitant of it, i never pulled a 5th wheel before. This hitch is so heavy duty and has been a great tool for major situations where i thought the trailer may possibly disconnect in harsh roads. It has never let me down or has never disconnected. Very Good Hitch. 340655

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Ram 2500 Short Bed with Factory Prep Package
  • For a 5th wheel hitch that fits directly into the factory 5th wheel prep package in your 2016 Ram 2500 you can use B&W hitch # BWRVK3600. But on a short bed truck even the mounting range of the B&W hitch head might not provide enough clearance to make tight turns safely. What I recommend is to use Demco adapter # DM6099 which fits in the Ram factory prep package. This will act as a base for the Demco HiJacker, # DM8550035, rated for 21,000 pounds. Another benefit is that this hitch slides...

  • Installing Fifth Wheel Hitch Bed Rails in Truck with Bed Liner
  • If your bed liner is the spray-in type, you can simply install the fifth wheel hitch rails directly on top of it. However, if your bed liner is the hard plastic drop-in type, the liner would need to be trimmed away so that the bed rails have direct metal-to-metal contact with the truck bed. If the rails are installed directly over a drop-in liner, eventually the portion of the liner under the rails will deteriorate, which would cause the rails to become loose and lead to a dangerous situation....

  • Towing a fifth-wheel trailer with a 2010 Dodge Ram Pickup with 5 foot 7 inch bed is definitely possible. Beds shorter than 6 feet require the addition of a Sidewinder replacement pin box for the fifth-wheel trailer you will be towing. Once you have selected a trailer and Sidewinder, you will need to install a stationary 5th wheel hitch in the...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab Short Bed
  • On a short bed truck like your 2009 Dodge Ram 2500, you will need a slider hitch. But first, you will need an installation kit. I recommend the custom installation kit # RP50140-58 because it installs in less time and requires less drilling. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. A slide bar, while secure, is going to provide the least snug fit and you will notice the king pin making some noise. Next are double jaws and are much more secure and cut down quite a bit on the movement and noise of the king pin.
