Quiet, Secure Ride

The 3/4" thick jaw on the Patriot is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Patriot has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Patriot is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Easily Adjustable Design

The B&W Patriot can be adjusted up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can easily accommodate the height of your trailer.

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Patriot allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Video Transcript for B and W Fifth Wheel - Sliding Fifth Wheel - BWRVK3270 Review

Today we are going to take a look at the BMW Patriot Dual Jaw Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with the slider. And this has an 18 000 pound weight capacity. Now this fifth wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. This one happens to have a built in slider. It will provide clearance which is required for your short-bed pick-up to turn safely at slow speeds. The slider will give you about 12 inches from front to back extra clearance. Now on the head of this hitch, you can see has a three quarter inch stick dual jaws on it.

This will provide a nice 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact. And because of that I'll give you less rattle, more security than the slide-bar jaw models. Now, the head on this is a fully articulating head which will help you ease hook-up, helps to limit chalking. Being fully articulating, you can see it will go front to back and then the plate right here will also pivot side to side. Now the head does sit on these pivot arms, and at the top a polyurethane bushings that it sits in, gives you nice rattle-free ride. And the head can actually easily be removed if you need to by just lifting up on these two saddle handles on each side.

If you lift them up at the same time, it will unlock it, and you can pull the whole head off the pivot arms if you need to. Now those pivot arms, when you bolt those to the slider base, it can be adjusted, depending on how you install those for front to back to give you extra cab clearance, as well as up and down to accommodate the height of your trailer, because you always want your trailer and tow vehicle to be as level as possible. So basically to adjust it, you either the height of the front to back positioning, you just attach these pivot arms right here in the desired location on the base of this slider here. Now the hitch height settings that it offers you to fit your application will range from 17 inches up to 19 inches, so 3 offerings. Basically, the hitch height is always measured from the truck bed to the top of the plate here. Now the handle right here to operate the jaws, it's a cam-action latching handle, helps prevent binding. It's a very simple release, even on unlevel terrain. All you have to do is remove the pinning clip, then you can move the handle back to open the jaws up.

Now the hole where the pinning clip is, is large enough, you can actually put a padlock if you like through there for extra security. We do sell padlocks on our website. They are sold separately. Now this does require base rails and an installation kit to install this to your truck bed. They are sold separately on our website. Now if you already have rails in your truck bed, this slider hitch is compatible with industry standard, above the rails made by BMW Kirk draw tight hidden hitch pro series recent valley.

Now if you do need to purchase them, we do require, besides the base rails to also get a installation kit to install the rails to your vehicle. And to simplify installation, we do recommend either a custom or semi-custom installation kit. Now they are not available for all applications, so if you go on our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, it will show you if there is a custom or semi-custom bracket kit. We do recommend using this over just the universal kit; makes installation a lot easier. Now this does come with the 4 pins and clips; you can see I laid out there. That's for attaching the slider base to the rails in your vehicle. Now this hitch is a steel construction. The whole thing has a nice great powder coat finish to it for corrosion resistance. It is made in the USA. And again a few specs on this: the gross towing weight capacity is 18 000 pounds, the vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 4 500 pounds. I mentioned your hitch height is anywhere from 17 up to 19 inches and then the travel of your slider is 12 inches front to back. I'm going to show you that in a minute here. Now I do want to give you measurement of the foot print of this, how much space it's going to take up when you install it in your vehicle. The width of it is going to be right at 32 inches and the depth front to back is right at 29,5 inches. So just now to demonstrate, I want to show you the slider, how it operates and then show you the jaws, how they operate. So right now it's locked into the towing position. The towing position would be the closest to the cab, so when you out on the road you don't have to do much turning; you want it as close to the cab as possible. So this would be the towing position. Now when you get to your camp crown and you need to back your trailer fifth wheel into your position, you might need to make some sharp turns. You want to have some extra clearance so the trailer doesn't hit your cab or your vehicle, tow vehicle. So all you have to do is push up on the release the handle by pushing up on it, that will release it, and you can see it slides very easily. It will slide towards the tail gate. You can see once it hits the 12 inches, the limit, it will lock it into place. Now it's locked in the maneuvering position and you can do your maneuvering around, and then when you're ready to get back on the road for towing, and you want to move it out of maneuvering position back to the towing position, again just push up on that handle to release it, that unlocks it and as you can see, it will slide very easily all the way to the towing position, and automatically lock the handle down to lock it into place. Very easy movement just like that. Now on the cam latching handle we talked about, you just pop the pinning clip right here and then that will release the handle. Then all you have to do is move that handle back and you can see it will open up both jaws right there. To give you an idea, here's an example of a kingpin would be like on your fifth wheel. So when that goes into the hitch head, pushes back onto the dual jaws and as it pushes back far enough it will push this handle right into position. You just want to make sure the holes line up like that. The dual jaws are wrapped around there, take your pinning clip, drop it into both holes, flip it, and that will lock the handle into place. Now again if you want, if you prefer a padlock in there for extra security, you could do that also. But now with it all locked into place the dual jaws are wrapped around, they're ready to go. But that should do it for the review on the BMW Patriot Dual Jaw Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with the slider and has an 18 000 pound weight capacity.

The hitch is more than one could ask for! It slides easily. I have no play when hooked to the trailer. Hooking and unhooking on uneven ground is not a problem. I would definitely buy again and again! 599627

Very happy with the quality and performance of this hitch. My previous hitch was a Reese 15K slider, it seemed to have a lot of excess play and was noisy when towing. The B&W is very solid with no apparent play, the slider moves easily . Installation was easy as it fit my existing universal rails almost perfectly and the tow head mounts were simple to install. 608687

I use the B&W Patriot in a 2015 2500 Ram 6.5 box, with a Reese adapter for the factory puck system. I already had the Reese adapter so went this route. The Patriot works as it should. Make sure you use some lithium grease on the slides, makes it much easier to slide. I like that you can remove the head, makes it lighter to take out of the truck. I had to purchase longer pins for my set up. It has a very good locking mechanism. It is easy to hitch and unhitch the 5th wheel camper. A good value for the dollar. Made in America. 569207

I installed this hitch in my Ford F250 back in December of 2017, one year ago. I have since towed our fifth wheel camper approximately 6,000 miles using this hitch which has performed flawlessly, no regrets at all. 590571

This is an excellent 5th wheel hitch. It is built very solid and does not rattle around when not in use. The B&W Patriot Hitch is well worth the extra money in cost. 588942

This thing is solid. I have 0 worry that it will tow anything. Definitely more than my truck could ever tow. I have a 6.5ft bed and the slider allows me to make ANY turn possible without worrying about the trailer hitting the cab. Other than having an automatic slide, I can't imagine there being a better hitch. 386786

Great 5th wheel hitch. I had a little rocker before nice and light, easy to take in and out of the trunk but a bitch to unhook from the trailer. Just the slightest twist of the trailer and the bar won't slide out of the way to unhook. The Patriot is effortless to hook and unhook, and though I don't use the slider much it's nice to have. It's built like a tank and ironically that's it's only drawback, it takes two people to take it in and out of the truck. 425139

All went together smoothly and plenty strong for my application which is a 27' fifth wheel Slider hitch. 407685

Since I bought the equipment, I feel the same about the quality and installation. I do, however, have one big issue. There is no way to prevent a road worn driver from forgetting to slide the slider back at the end of a long day on the road. Broke 3 windows before I figured it out. I took an Arduino computer, an ultrasonic range finder and a back-up horn. Lashed it all together with a bit of software and connected it to the back-up lights. Put the car in reverse with the slider in the wrong position and you get BEEP BEEP BEEP . . . . Hope you can do something with the info. Oth

I am glad that you have something figured out. Another consideration would be for a headache rack for the rear window of your truck. This could be used in addition to your current system, but would just be another level of protection for your rear truck glass, before a small mistake becomes even more costly.

Bought this hitch to replace a 6 month old Curt A16 slider hitch. The Curt was my first 5th wheel hitch ever. It was noisy, sloppy and a poor design. Every stop and start was a clang...bang...creak. The Curt hitch has play in the rail attachments (even with dampeners) play in the slide mechanism, and in the hitch head. In other words it sucked and was a waste of $900. The b&w patiot on the other hand is solid as a rock. If your on the fence, trust me. The b&w is worth every penny. Don’t do what I did. Go with the b&w first. Btw I have a real [piece] curt hitch for sale cheap if anyone wants it. 721053

B&W hitches are the best! The Patriot slider is the easiest manual slider to use. It is rarely needed but fantastic when in a super tight spot. Quiet compared to others I've had. Made in the USA too. It is heavy, but really does the job as it is supposed to. I've had others, never again. 584571

This in my opinion is the best slider hitch on the market, just simply push the lever, lock the trailer brake and pull forward, the hitch slides with absolutely no effort, and hooking up is just as easy. 583418

  • Can Stationary 5th Wheel Hitch be Used for a 2018 Ram 2500 with Short Bed
You could potentially use the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Rails and Universal Installation Kit # C16116 to tow your 35' RV with your 2018 Ram 2500 but I really don't recommend doing that for 3 reasons. The first is that this is a universal installation rail kit which means that you have to do some drilling into the frame of your brand new vehicle and the second is that the E16 is an entry level 5th wheel hitch that can get the job done but it doesn't secure the king pin very well,...

  • Should a 16K 5th Wheel Hitch be Rated for Over the GVWR of a Trailer
You definitely want to make sure that your hitch (5th wheel and/or bumper pull) is rated for more than the GVWR of your trailer. If you had a bumper pull that was rated a few hundred pounds over the GVWR of your trailer then I would say that you are good but since 5th wheel towing is with heavier trailers I recommend using a 5th wheel hitch that is rated for at least 1,000 lbs more than your GVWR. Yes technically the 16K can handle the weight of your 15,682 lb GVWR but it will put a lot...

5th Wheel Trailer hitches like the B&W Patriot Sliding Hitch # BWRVK3270 do not require safety chains in any state like a Gooseneck or other style trailer would require. If you want to add chains you can use the Reese Safety Chain Kit with Clevis Hooks - 44" Long - 20,000 lbs - Qty 2 # RP49151 designed to be used with the Goose Box pin box. You will simply need to add a mount to your hitch itself or loop the chains around the base rails where the hitch connects because you need to keep...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and Minimum and Maximum Towing Capacities
The fifth wheel towing capacity of your 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD will depend not only on if you have 4WD but also your engine, cab size, bed size and axle ratio, though you didn't mention those specifically so what I can do is give you some ranges. Your truck's capacity will be anywhere from 13,800 lbs on the low end for a Crew Cab V8 gas engine with a long bed and 4.10 axle ratio to a max of 17,600 lbs for a Regular Cab with a long bed, V8 diesel and 3.73 axle ratio. You should check...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch For Ford F-250 With 6-3/4 Bed And Factory Puck System
We do have the custom installation kit you need for your 2012 F-250. You need part # BWGNRK1104-5W. This includes the rails, gooseneck hitch head, safety chain loops and a hitch ball. Another nice system you can use is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider, part # DM8550024. This fifth wheel hitch will fit the puck system in your truck bed and features Autoslide which means you do not have to exit the truck to operate the slider function. The hitch slides automatically...

  • B&W 5th Wheel Hitches that Allow Full Truck Bed Access
The B&W Patriot 5th wheel hitch and installation kit you referenced, parts # BWRVK3270 and # BWRVK2501, is a confirmed fit for your 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with 6-1/2-foot bed. This system uses industry-standard rails (ISRs) for mounting in your truck and these remain in place when the hitch is removed. The hitch head unit alone weighs approximately 50-lbs; the remainder of the slider/base weighs about 165-lbs, a bit much for one person. If you want to have the bed totally clear...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For A Camper W/GVWR 14,100 lbs With Hitch Weight Of 2,100 lbs
I would recommend choosing a fifth wheel hitch with your future needs in mind. Fifth wheel trailer hitches have weight ratings that need to be more than the fully loaded trailer being towed. Towing a trailer that is heavier than what the hitch is rated for is not safe. There is nothing wrong with having a hitch that is overrated, especially if you might be towing a heavier trailer in the future. Like you mentioned, you will need a slider for your 2012 Dodge Ram pickup. If you think...

  • Recommended 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2017 Ram 2500 with Factory Rail Kit
The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 referenced in your question can be used on your 2017 Ram 2500 with the factory rail kit by using the Reese Rail Adapter # RP30154. The B&W Patriot is compatible with industry-standard, above-bed rails, which is exactly what mounting the Reese Rail Adapter to your factory puck system will provide. Because the Reese Rail Adapter uses the existing puck mounting system, no drilling will be required during installation. I have...

  • Slider Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Ram 2500 Short Bed that's Easy to Remove Head Off
As far as slider hitches go the B and W Patriot Slider part # BWRVK3270 would probably be the easiest to remove the head of to make removing it a bit easier. The base will still be pretty heavy but its the only option we have that's going to be easier to take apart to make easier for install/removal. For a rail kit confirmed as a fit for your 2018 Ram 2500 short bed you'd then want the kit part # BWRVK2602 which is a confirmed fit.

  • Adapter to Use B&W Patriot Slider On a 2020 GMC Sierra/Chevy Silverado with Pucks
Yes, the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3270 can be used on a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 with the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Chevy/GMC OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package part # DM6333. There was a previous version of this adapter for the 2016-2019 Chevy/GMC OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package that would not work with the above hitch due to the x-shaped center section but the new adapter uses a picture frame layout so you can use the above without issue.

  • Comparing B&W Companion 5th Wheel Sliding Hitch to Patriot Slider for 2018 Ram 3500
For your 2018 Ram 3500 short bed, the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 is a confirmed fit. This hitch requires industry standard rails and for that fit, I recommend the installation kit # BWRVK2601 which requires no drilling into your truck frame rails. This combination works great but will give you the above bed rails to deal with when the hitch is not installed. For a Companion Slider # BWRVK3400 you would need to use the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with Above-Bed Base Rails
If your 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD has a 6-1/2-foot bed you will need a sliding hitch to provide turning clearance for your toy hauler. I recommend the 18K B&W Patriot # BWRVK3270 which features 12-inches of slider travel, 1-inch thick dual jaws for excellent grip on your trailer's king pin and a double-pivoting head assembly that will make for easier hitching when the truck and trailer are not perfectly level. This hitch will fit into any brand of industry-standard above-bed base rails...

  • Will the B&W Patriot Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Work with 2016 Ford F-250 Short Bed and Montana Trailer
For your 2016 Ford F-250 short bed without the factory rails, I recommend you get the B&W Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVK2401 to use with the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3270 you referenced.
