I have a 40 foot, 16,000 GVWR fifth wheel towed by a 1 ton, SRW, long bed with Timbrens also purchased from etrailer. The FW came with a Rotaflex kingpin. The kingpin did a good job with chucking, but the overall ride was very rough. I decided to go with the Reese Fifth Airborne. We went on a 250 mile trip just before installation of the Reese Fifth Airborne. My wife likes to knit while riding. There were stretches of the interstate where she would have to stop because the ride was so rough. We happened to go over the same stretch of road after the installation of the Reese Fifth Airborne. She did not have to stop her knitting once. The road doesn't turn smooth as glass with this kingpin, but the jarring is eliminated and turned into a a smooth, more subtle bounce. There are similar products on the market and other setups that are greatly more expensive. IMO, the Reese Fifth Airborne works very well, is relatively affordable and doesn't detract from the looks of the FW. And, of course, purchasing from etrailer is great.

Im continuing to be pleased with the Reese Fifth Airborne. Hard jolts are minimized. Just dont feel nearly as beat up after a day of towing.

This hitch is great, no more chucking and it also takes the hard bounce out. Would recommend to anyone. You will need to adjust the pressure in the air bag to suit the weight of your pin. 100% better pull, you wont be sorry.

I have a 2018 F350 SRW with a Andersen ultimate 5th and I’m at the top of my payload with my 41’ 5th wheel. I’m just a weekend warrior but when I got my fifth wheel I experienced SEVERE bucking even on my 20 mph test drive. After more research I leveled the trailer worked on the pin weight and got much improved but I still really felt stressed and white knuckled while towing. The fifth wheel had a mind of it own and going up grades I was forced to stress the truck by pulling harder with higher rpm to keep tension and prevent the chugging effect. Not happy considering the 50K trailer investment we made, me and my wife were fairly upset with the experience. I first looked at the air ride pin boxes because it seemed to offer a diverse range of options based on the problems I had but when I called to talk to the manufacturer despite what e trailer says about the compatibility with certain air ride options they flat out told me don’t do it. He wouldn’t even suggest or recommend me the best for my problems he simply repeated 4-5 times “we don’t recommend any adapters for our hitches, only standard 5th wheel connections” So I did more research and found the 5th airborne. Highly reviewed but realistically it was one of a limited variety of pin box choices I had left so I got it And had sky high hopes I’m currently at the campground. Took the same roads I took here about a month ago and WOW. MAKES SUCH A DIFFERENCE. Wife and I are shocked. We feel comfortable bringing the baby along on our river weekend trips, annual family trip from Southern California to Shasta lake and have confidence in our setup being as smooth as towing a 13K pound trailer can be. I honestly didn’t think It’d help as much as it did Installation was fairly easy. I’m a busy dude but used my truck bed and a floor jack and borrowed my wife for an hour and we got it installed. When I installed I moved it higher on the 5th frame I believe the 5th airborne will tend to sit high specifically when the air bag is inflated and if you have to inflate to 100 or so psi. I started mine at 100, drove about 15 mins on highway and felt no difference at first Pulled over realized the trailer was again nose high by 3 inches so I first bled down to about 85 psi and lowered my hitch an inch and I still sit 1 inch nose high but the ride was BUTTER. Found the sweet spot and I will never change it. Loving the setup completely worth the money. 5th airborne should be a stock set up in my opinion there shouldn’t be any other way to tow!

Unit arrived in good condition. Was a breeze to install, about a 1 hour job with 2 people including removal of old Tri-Glide. Didn't like the "banging" back and forth with the tri-glide. The only issue I had was having to drill pilot hole for breakaway switch screw. Non issue! Can't wait to make a haul with it. Alaska here we come!

Comments
We put over 9000 miles on our new setup. The difference in the ride was amazing! Wouldnt have any other setup. I did add airbags to the truck as well. At times we had to look back to see if the trailer was still there. Its a 40 ft. toy hauler towed with a F350 dually, 6.7 powerstroke.

The 5th Airborne Air Ride Coupler is very well made with quality welds. Installing on a 2010 Cyclone 3612 Toy Hauler, I did have to cut about 1/2 inch from the fiberglass at the top front of the Lippert Trailer Mount. This modification provided the 3/8" vertical movement required to allow the front 3 bolt holes to line up. Other than the small fiberglass trim, a very clean installation.

Very good quality and easy to install. Took a little more than an hour. Helps to have a tractor with forks and a good cordless impact wrench. Other reviews say it works well. Still snow here but can not wait to try it. Have new Bighorn and with factory pinbox it was a rough 200 miles home.

I contacted etrailer several times trying to figure out how to fix my problem. Everyone there that I spoke with was very knowledgeable and helpful. They shipped the product right away and I received it a day before expected. I can't say enough about the great people at etrailer. The lady who helped me on the phone knew her products. The product shipped right away and was delivered in three days. It was delivered in good shape. it only took a couple of hours to install. That included messing around. There was two of us because of the weight and we were both senior citizens. Really appreciated the ease of installing. I purchased the product because of the jolt caused by the cracks in the cement when pulling my 5th wheel. Customer service was excellent

  • Pin Height Difference Between 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler and Lippert 1621
The 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler part # 5AB-E1621-610 measures about 6" from the bottom of the skid plate to the lowermost mounting hole which will be the same if not very similar to that of the Lippert 1621 OEM. Therefore, the height will remain the same so you don't have to worry about the nose of the trailer sitting too high. The dimensions of the 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler are mirrored to the Lippert 1621 OEM. I have attached a photo with...
