Video Transcript for Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails Installation - 2013 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

Today on our 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty, we're gonna be taking a look at . I'm gonna show you how to install the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit with Base Rails for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches. This kit is going to allow us to attach our rail-mounted fifth wheel hitches as well as our rail-mounted gooseneck adapters. Both are sold separately, but can be found here at etrailer.com.As you can see here, our rails are gonna mount to the inside of our bed, and they're not gonna take up a whole lot of space. They're only gonna stick up about an inch and a half.So we're still gonna be able to utilize most of our bed space when hauling things like plywood and drywall. They're gonna be constructed out of a black powder-coated steel. Very durable. And they're gonna resist rust or corrosion. Our hardware is gonna run through our bed and are secured to our frame brackets, which are then secured to our frame rails.

Our frame brackets are also gonna be constructed of a nice black powder-coated steel that are also gonna be very durable and resist rust or corrosion. As you'll see here, each rail's gonna have a couple different slots. This is gonna allow us to use different sized fifth wheel hitches as well as different gooseneck adapters, which is gonna make this rail kit very versatile. As far as the installation process, it's gonna be very simple. The kit's gonna come with all the necessary hardware. The only modification required is to drill a few holes for the hardware holding our rails down. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let me show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, it's a good idea to go ahead and remove your spare tire, to make it a little bit easier. On the inside of our driver's side frame rail, we're gonna have to hoses or pipes that we're gonna have to pull off and move out of the way, or relocate.Take a flathead screwdriver, and we're gonna pop this little holder out of our frame, just like that. We're gonna have an L bracket, looks like this, in our kit, and a small bolt, lock nut, and two small washers. We're gonna take the bolt and one washer and we're gonna line them up with that hole, bolt head from the outside, coming in.

And then on the inside, we'll put on our flat washer and our nylon lock nut. This is gonna help assist us with getting our frame bracket put in place. But we're gonna leave our tubes loose for now. We're not gonna put them on our bracket just yet.Couple things you're gonna need for this next step. Paint marker. You're gonna need one of your base rails.

A tape measure, a drill with an eighth-inch drill bit, and a step bit.Take one of your rails. You're gonna lay it in the bed of your truck, and you're gonna measure, per the instructions, from the edge of your bed here up. And you're gonna make a mark, per the instructions, for your bed size. And then we wanna measure between our wheel wells, the distance from side to side, and get that as even as possible. Go ahead and make a mark here. Just in case I end up moving my rail by accident.Eighth-inch drill bit.

We're gonna drill right down through the center. Gonna make sure before you do any drilling, you check underneath to make sure you're not gonna be drilling into any of the components that are underneath the bed of the truck. We're gonna do the same thing with the four remaining holes. With these on the outside, you notice it kind of falls right on this edge. Take a drill bit, go at an angle like this, and when you start getting in, then you can pull your drill bit up and go straight down. You can see I've got a little screwdriver. I'm gonna push it down in the hole like this and I'm gonna go down and put my frame bracket on to make sure that my holes are lining up correctly.I'm gonna go ahead and loosely install my hardware, just to hold my bracket in place, so we can take a look at it and see if there's any adjustments we need to make.inaudible 00:04:33 we're using to hold it in place. You're gonna have a bolt that looks like this. It's already gonna have a washer on it. And this is gonna be on the inside, on your frame rail. Again, we're just loosely installing this right now because we wanna make sure that our holes are in the right position before we drill them out all the way.Where my screwdriver is coming down here, where I drilled my pilot hole, it's actually a little far back. So if I open that hole up to the correct size, my hole's actually gonna be over this edge. So what we're gonna do, we're gonna go back up and we're gonna drill that hole about a quarter-inch forward from where we originally did. Now, going ahead and move my initial hole back, just a little bit. Now we're gonna go ahead and open them up to the proper size. I'm gonna use a step bit. Keep in mind, you're using a step bit. If you go into the hat channel, the step bit is only going to open the hat channel or the lip of the hat channel, a little bit. So you may need to get an actual nine-sixteenth drill bit to drill through that hole to make the bottom side just as big as the top.I'm gonna do that with each one of our holes. It's a good idea to take some spray paint and cover the bare metal on each hole to prevent any rusting later on down the road.Set our rail in place. Carriage bolts. Put them into the holes that we just drilled. You'll notice where our bed, the corrugation rises here where our bolt is coming through and drops on each side. What we don't want is when we tighten our bolt down, for that center part, or that raised corrugation, to flatten out.So what we're gonna do is we're gonna put one of our half-moon spacers right in by the bolt, under this hat channel. But what we need to do is we need to bend this down just a little bit to give us a little extra space. Then we're gonna take it. You wanna be able to slide it in to where you can get that around that bolt. Just like that. You're gonna do the same thing, this bolt and the two on the other side.So for our center one, we're gonna have a spacer block like this. You'll notice how I have it slid in, that raised corrugation. And I actually had to push the bolt up, slid it in, and then drop my bolt back down through. You want it to sit just like this. Then we're gonna do the same thing with the other rail when we get it installed. Once you get that in, conical tooth washer, just like this. You wanna make sure that the teeth are facing up like that, and then you're gonna put on your nut.Three-quarter inch socket. We're just gonna snug these bolts up. What we want is we want our rail to pull up. So snug it up against the bottom of the bed. Snug your bolts up just enough where it holds it, 'cause when we put our hardware on these bottom bolts, on these, we wanna be able to pull it up tight as we can.Next we're gonna put our hardware onto our bolts coming down from our bed. Now, if you'll notice, there's not a whole lot of space here. We're gonna have to put on the spacer block, conical tooth washer, and a nut. And the reason we don't have space, 'cause we bent that outer lip of that hat channel down. So what we need to do is we need to push it back up.I'm gonna show you a little trick. We're gonna use this block and just the nut, for now. We just want enough to grip the teeth on there. Three-quarter inch socket. See how that flattens that out Plenty of room. Now, spacer block, conical tooth washer, teeth facing up, and then the nut. Now I'm gonna snug this one up, take this nut off, and then put my conical tooth washer on over there. Then we're gonna repeat that same process for our other side.Take your second rail, go ahead and lay it in the bed of the truck. You're gonna take your unassembled fifth wheel base and you're gonna put it into your mounted rail that you already installed and then you're gonna set the back rail in place. Make sure you're centered. And that's gonna give us our marks to drill our next holes.Just make sure you check underneath, make sure you're not gonna drill into anything, especially on this side here. This is our driver's side. Our fuel tank sits right here. You just wanna make sure when you drill that, don't push the drill bit down in there. You could take a chance of going right into the gas tank.Once you get your holes drilled, go ahead and put your fifth wheel base back into position. Go ahead and install your hardware. Now we're gonna go underneath and we're gonna install our hardware underneath the same way we did the ones here in the back.Next we're gonna tighten and torque all of our hardware. We're gonna start by tightening all of our bolts that run along the bottom of our bed, from our frame bracket. And then we're gonna torque them to the specification in the instructions. And then we're gonna tighten and torque the bolts that are running from our frame bracket through our frame.Once you get all your hardware tightened and torqued, don't forget to reinstall your two hoses here onto your bracket. The last thing we need to do is reinstall our spare tire and we're ready to go.That'll do it for our look at an installation on a Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit with Base Rails for Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches on our 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty.

It does not fit the 5th wheel; do I have to drill new holes in 5th wheel????

Comments
The Reese 30023 hitch you have used a T-bolt mount to the bed rails, versus a linch pin style connection used by the newer ones. Reese hasnt manufactured that connection style since around 1990. Unfortunately, Reese doesnt offer those rails or hitch legs that would allow you to retrofit your existing hitch. There is a solution, though. Your old rails shown in one of your photos should be compatible with the frame brackets, so as long as the old rails are still in sound shape you could reuse them. Drilling holes in the new rails isnt recommended, as it could weaken them.

I received the Reese 5th wheel 16,000 lb slider hitch from etrailer in June 2019; installed it in July 2019. Took around five hours to install the base rail kit and Reese hitch start to finish. So far so good, this heavy duty slider hitch works flawlessly with my F250/fifth wheel combo. It arrived in multiple boxes, had excellent instructions and an operating manual. For myself and other do-it-yourselfers, etrailer provides excellent support and installation videos to help with the install.

Honda Pilot

It was the easiest set of rails I have ever installed. I mounted the brackets to the frame and drilled a pilot hole up to the top of the bed. I could have had the job completed in less than 20 minutes if it weren’t for having to climb in and out of the bed. All of my trucks from now on will have the same product.

I've been towing a 43ft, 20,000 lb, toyhauler for about a year now. This hitch has been great, easy to use and hasn't caused me any issues. I live in the PNW and it just lives in the back of my truck in the weather and zero issues. The price was amazing and it works great.

I ordered the Reese Custom install kit for their 5th wheel hitch for my 2011 F250 Diesel Lariat, short bed. It was shipped quickly, was well packaged and came with clear directions. etrailer was fantastic about customer support and making sure all the pieces parts were there. I'm planning on installing in a couple of days and am looking forward to using it. I'm glad I went this route vs the other generic kit. This one is cut to fit this exact vehicle, so no hunting for good mounting spot, moving lines or drilling the frame etc.

Well, this is my third purchase of the same exact custom rail kit. Needless to say, I'm getting pretty good at it. This has been the best experience this far do to one simple change from the last two kits. They have added a single wing on the nut that holds holds the quick mount to the truck frame. This alone allows you to tighten the bolts without have to hold a wrench on the nut on the other side of the frame. This made this one man job much, much easier. The only reason I still give it 4 stars is the instructions still lack for the first time installer of this product. I give 5 stars to etrailer for putting out fantastic how to videos that explain the install much better. I watched it just to brush up. Excellent job !! I'm an etrailer customer for life due to great products and support.

This 5th wheel mounting assembly was a perfect fit for my 2016 F-250 . The directions were easy to follow and installation took me about 4 hours. The one suggestion I would make is ensure you have access to a torque wrench. I did, but the direction do not specify it in the tools required section. Over all E-Trailer had awesome service, quick delivery, great pricing and the assembly arrived in two days. You can't ask for much more then that.

  • Can Draw Tite Fifth Wheel Hitch 6001 and 6024 Fit 2016 Ford F-250
The Draw Tite fifth wheel hitch part numbers you mentioned represent an industry standard rail style of fifth wheel hitch that is very common so yes it can fit your 2016 Ford F-250. So all you'd need to fit it into your truck bed is the correct rail kit for your truck. The best and easiest solution is a custom install kit like the # RP50026-58 which will minimize drilling and install time. Or if you are okay with a much more involved install the universal # RP30035 is another solution.

Or for an easier to install kit we have the outboard rail kit part # RP56016-53 that also does not require any frame drilling. Since it installs on the outside of the frame it will be noticeably easier to install as well as the other kit I mentioned uses brackets that install on the inboard side of the truck...

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD with 5th Wheel Rails
I have a suspension enhancement kit that fits your 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD if you were to install the Reese fifth wheel rail kit part # RP50026-58 but none of the air bag kits are a fit. Instead you'd need to go with the Timbren kit part # TABSOSR which would not interfere and would work well for more suspension support. It gives you suspension support when you need it but when unloaded does not affect the ride quality. Also it does not require maintaining air pressure like the air bag kits do.

  • Solutions for Fifth Wheel Slider Hitch that Won't Slide All the Way Back When in Rail Kit
If your hitch fits the rails it's most likely not the rails' fault that the hitch won't slide back far enough. Unless you had to really pry the hitch into the rail kit (which would bind up the slider mechanism) the rails and their placement shouldn't be an issue. See if you can pull the hitch out of the rail kit easily and then see if the slider mechanism will slide uninstalled from the rails. If you can't get the slider to work right, and because Valley is no longer around, it would...

  • Measurements for Installing Reese Custom Rails and Installation Kit on 2011 Ford F-250
There is one important measurement that you will need when installing the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit, part # RP50026-58 to your 2011 Ford F-250. That measurement is for placement of the front mounting rail. The measurement will be from the rear edge of the bed of the truck, with the tailgate removed, to the inside edge of the front mount base rail. This measurement will be 54-3/16 inches. There is a diagram in the included installation instructions that will...

Yes, the base rail installation kit # RP50026-58 and # RP50082-58 will be compatible with the B&W Patriot 5th wheel trailer hitch # BWRVK3200. The B&W Patriot is compatible with industry standard, above bed rails such as B&W, Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Pro Series, Reese, and Valley. If your truck has a diesel engine, you will need to use the Reese custom base rails and installation kit # RP50073-58. If it's a gas engine, use # RP50082-58. The gross towing weight of the B&W 5th...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Base Rails and Hitch for 2011 Ford F-250 Short Bed
For your 2011 Ford F-250 Crew Cab short bed, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50026-58 is a custom fit that will give you industry standard rails compatible with the majority of 5th wheel hitches. The RP30085 you referenced has been replaced by the # RP30144 and is not the correct fit. That hitch requires the puck system rails for compatibility. You instead will want # RP30084 for the square tube roller. If you want...

  • Will a Reese 12K 5th Wheel Hitch Work on a 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty
I have several hitches that will work with your new 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty, but based on the information we have, your 12K Reese 5th wheel hitch will not work with anything that is made these days. The only 12K 5th wheel hitch that Reese had was made between 1985 and 1990 and it was actually made by another company called Owens Classic. Reese dropped that line in 1990 and released their own 5th wheel line, so anything sold by Reese that was made before 1990 will not fit anything made...

  • How to Mount a Reese 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2014 Ford F-250/F-350
In order to determine which rail kit you need for your 2014 Ford F-250/F-350, we would need to know how the hitch mounts. There are two different types of mounting brackets, under bed and above bed. If you could send me a photo of the hitch or find a part number for it then I would be able to confirm how it mounts. However, the vast majority of Reese 5th wheel hitches will install using industry standard above bed rails therefore the correct kit for you is more than likely the Reese...

The difference between the Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit, part # RP50026-58, and part # RP56016-53 is the length of the base rails. The baserails for part # RP50026-58 are 43 inches long and for part # RP56016-53 the length is 48-inches. Both installation kits are designed to mount to the outboard side of the truck frame.

  • Can 5th Wheel Brackets be Installed First Before Rails and holes Drilled Up Through the Truck Bed
I suppose you could but the positioning of the rails is critical so you would need to be vigilant about getting them in the right locations. I recommend just following the installation instructions because if you were to have the brackets off of where they need to be then everything is off and you will have to drill additional holes through the bed. The holes in the brackets for the frame bolts are elongated which allows for a little front to back slop, so you would have to make sure...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit for a 2015 Ford F-250 Short Bed
The design of your Keystone 5th wheel trailer is indeed designed for use with short bed trucks without having to use a slider hitch. However, a slider can still be used and would be a good idea if you ever tow a trailer that does not have the short bed friendly design. For an under bed mount for your 2015 Ford F-250 I recommend Demco kit # DM8551000 and for a hitch I recommend # DM8550022. The great thing about this hitch is that it will slide automatically without you having to do anything....
