Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit RP50082-58 Review

Today, we're going to be reviewing part number RP50082. This is the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th-wheel trailer hitches. The custom brackets are going to be these right here on the side. These are actually going to mount beneath your truck bed, and they are going to provide the attachment points for the 5th-wheel rails. All the hardware that I have exposed, meaning all the hardware I have outside of the bag, that is going to be the hardware needed for the custom brackets. It's included, so everything that you need for a full, complete install is going to be included with this part number. All the hardware that I have in the bag is the hardware to get the base rails installed. The base rails are the 2 here on top.

These are designed to sit inside the truck bed, and they are going to allow installation of your 5th-wheel trailer hitch. Keep in mind that when installing the base rails, you do not want to install the mounting rails over plastic bedliners. What you will need to do is actually cut out the portion where the rails would sit of the plastic bedliner, that way we can have metal to metal contact. Now, mounting the rails is okay when doing it over a spray-in bedliner, so you don't have to worry about that. It's just only when using plastic bedliners that you need to trim that out of the way. This system is designed to fit 1999 to 2010 Ford SuperDuty F250 and F350 trucks and also 2008 to 2010 F450 trucks. The brackets here on the side, these are vehicle specific, and they are designed to mount to the existing holes in your vehicle's frame. Having the vehicle specific bracket feature is great because it's going to minimize the amount of drilling and measuring required for an install.

It's also going to cut your installation time in half when compared to universal bracket systems. The kit is going to include your custom brackets, base rails, all necessary hardware for both the custom brackets and the base rails as well as a set of detailed instructions to walk you through step by step for the installation. It is compatible with other hitches such as Curt, DrawTite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley, and Husky. This will not fit the Reese Elite Series or Signature Series or the Valley UBS hitches. It's made from a nice steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it is going to stand up really well against rust and corrosion. The overall length of the base rails measuring from end to end is going to give us a measurement of right on 43", and each one is going to be identical. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP50082. This is the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th-wheel trailer hitches. .

I purchased the fifth wheel with the mounting kit to fit my truck. Excellent product. Easy to assemble. Arrived quickly. I completed installation in under 4 hours Thursday night, and used it Friday to transport a camper with no trouble or issues. If you are planning on installing the mounting kit yourself, you will need a torque wrench capable of achieving 212 ft-lbs of torque, and some big muscles. I liked that I could track status of shipment in route easily from the link that was emailed to me. Had 2 minor issues neither was a big deal. I gave a score of excellent because the minor issues did not really affect me, but I am noting them because they may affect another purchaser. 1. The cardboard boxes that the unit shipped in were beat up badly from the handling during shipment. There were holes in 2 of the boxes, and the tubing for the handles were sticking out of the boxes. There were 2 missing parts from the mounting kit box. A 5/8 washer and one of the specialty 1/4 inch spacers that secures the brackets to the frame. This could have been a big deal, but I have washers, and I made a spacer in my shop to replace the missing one. I did not contact Etrailer for replacement parts because I needed to install the unit so it could be used the next day. My choice. 2. The instructions from the bracket kit led me to believe that I needed to drill 4 pilot holes in the bed for the rear bracket, when I needed to drill all five. This meant that I had to take the bracket back out to drill the center hole for the fifth bolt. It took me about 10 extra minutes to install the brackets than it should have. I felt the instructions were a little unclear on that step. Other than that the instructions were straight forward, simple and easy to follow. I would purchase this product again if I needed another wheel, and I would order from Etrailer again. 269732

Your installation videos are very useful for the installations of these RV hitch rails. It took me about 3 hours by myself to install. I needed a third hand to hold parts together and install bolts, but I finished this installation. The finished installation turned out excellent and functioned well hauling my 5th wheel trailer. I would and have recommended your company and products to several of my family members and friends to buy from at Your videos are both helpful for buying decisions and installing your products. Everything was great except the shipping and shipping time and schedules. I believe the biggest problem could have been the holidays. I was very unhappy concerning the shipping schedules. My packages arrived early and sat for delivery for two extra days, according to UPS notes. 112262

First hitch Reese RP30869 with this bracket. I have a F250 diesel with a 6 and 3/4 bed. We went to a home depot parking lot to put it on, in case we needed any other tools. Very simple to install. We were able to install this hitch with the custom brackets without even taking the tires off. Very easy, took about 3 hours, could have been faster you were to remove the tires-hard to tighten to the right foot pounds. All you need is a few sockets-some deep and some regular, 2" and 6" extension, a torque wrench, drill, drill bits and an extra set of hands if I remember correctly. For my first hitch, everything was pretty easy. Etrailer was very helpful with install videos and customer service was excellent. All pros, no cons, and it looks good too. 159407

I called e trailer and told them what truck and hitch I have and they sent this in the mail. Was very easy install took about 3 hours though time would be cut in half if it came with better instructions. The install video helped me out a bunch though so I'm happy they posted that video. Get yourself quality drill bits my 9/16th was a dewalt titanium bit and after the 6th hole it was shot but I was able to force my way through the last two holes. Very happy with my purchase would definitely recommend and saved myself a ton of money doing it myself :):) 191465

These brackets made my life so much easier as far as the install goes. The print on the instructions was very faded making it hard to see the illustrations. But after reading the text and watching's informative video for the install on the 2006 f350, it was pretty easy. All total about 2.5 - 3 hours and my brackets and hitch were installed. If I had help im sure it would have been quicker but I did it on my own. The quality of the brackets and hardware was top notch along with super fast shipping and service from Thanks! 28413

Although installation will not begin for two days yet, I have looked over the components and find them more stout than I expected. Read over installation instructions and find them very easy to follow and believe installation will take less than the 4 hrs estimated. Price, customer service and delivery were awesome. Big fan of etrailer so far with the products I have purchased and recommend etrailer to friends and family who are interested in trailering. Keep up the great work. 361438

Thanks for the fast shipment, the rails are installed in my F350, and the rails fit the Air Safe Air Box perfectly. I'm looking forward to pulling my 5th wheel in a few days with a smooth ride. Thank you Caleb for the great and fast service you provided from Etrailer. 183759

Ordered this kit to replace my other one when I put a new box on my old truck. It seems to be a lot stronger than the old one. I like the plates that go along the frame rail. My old one just have l brackets. Installation was smooth. No trouble at all. Was simple to bolt on. Think I had to remove my overload spring stopper that was bolted on the frame but that was ok since I am installing airbags also. 353703

changed hitches and needed to change the bed and frame rails as my others were not compatable with my new hitch. were alot easier to install than my other frame and bed rails, only time consuming part was trying to get the spacers installed as they were extremely tight and could have used a bit more chamfer on one side to ease the installation of them other than that it is a great product 32687

Rail kit fit well in my 2003 Ford F-350, Easy to install. Called and spoke with customer service to make sure I ordered the right kit, very helpful. All parts came in the two packages, one box was slightly damaged but no missing parts. Will use etrailer again in the future if any replacement parts are needed for the used 5th wheel hitch that I bought 48266

Very easy install, Took me about 2.5hrs. Directions were very easy to understand and all hardware was accounted for. The spacers that go in between the rails and frame brackets were a little tricky to position right but other than that it was a pretty strait forward install. Package came sooner than i thought and everything was very nice quality. 184447

Great service - quick delivery. I researched a lot of 5th wheel hitches for my 2000 f-350 dually and the 20K Reese with the 50058 rail kit was all it claimed to be. The frame mounts lined up perfectly. The only drilling required was the rail mount holes. I am extremely satisfied with the product. 43921

Bolted right on just as advertised. Easy install directions and a deal at $xxx.00. Watch the video on installation, it goes step by step. Installed on 2005 Ford F-350 Suoer Duty, Dually. I didn't even remove the rear tires, it may have been a little quicker if I had, but plenty of room if you don't. 326322

For a 1999 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty, you can use a universal rail kit like part # RP30035. For custom brackets...

  • Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2006 Ford F-250
  • We do have some custom 5th wheel brackets that will fit your 2006 Ford F-250 but # RP50026 is actually for newer Ford trucks so they will not fit your 2006. If you already have Reese rails then you can use frame brackets # RP50082. These custom brackets fit your truck and can be used with Reese 4-bolt or 10-bolt industry standard above the bed rails. If you do have rails and they are 10-bolt (with square holes on the side flanges and each end of the rails) the you will also need bolt...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Bed Rail Placement on 2003 Ford F250 Extended Cab
  • The correct placement will depend on which install kit you are using. I would recommend using a custom kit like the one offered by Reese, part # RP50082-58. The installation instructions for the # RP50082-58 (see link) state that the rear of the back rail is 32-1/4 inches forward of the rear edge of the bed (not the tailgate). This will place the centerline of the hitch approximately 2-15/16 inches forward of the rear axle centerline. These dimensions can vary if you use a different kit.

For a rail kit I would strongly recommend you get a Custom Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, part # RP50082-58. This kit is designed to work specifically on your 2004 Ford F-350 and will cut installation time...

  • Are Firestone Ride Rite Air Helper Springs Compatible with the 5th Wheel Install Kit # RP50082-58
  • You will need to check to see which Firestone Ride-Rite air helper springs are on your truck. If you have the system that mounts on the outside of the frame rail, like the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Rear Kit, item # F2071, a fifth-wheel installation kit will not work. If you have the air spring system that mounts on the inside of the frame rail, like the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Rear Kit, item # F2398, will work with the # RP50082-58 installation kit. • Why NOT to Use Bed Bolts for Installing a 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2009 Ford F350
  • The first reason you would not want to use the bed bolts to install fifth wheel hitch rails using truck bed bolts is because it has never been tested, so even if it could potentially work I could not safely recommend you do it. The next reason is, that while the truck bed bolts do attach to the frame, they attach to a portion of the frame that consists of relatively thin formed sheet hat channel, not thick structural channel or tube. This would crush under the weight of a heavy trailer....

  • Replacement Parts Available for Reese 14K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2006 Ford F-350 Short Bed
  • Reese has not made a 14K hitch in many years so replacement parts are going to be hard to find. The replacement mounting kit has been discontinued. The only replacement parts still available are the pin and clip set, # 6014, clip rings, # 58054, jaw kit # 58056, and handle kit # 58055. With the proper installation kit the hitch will fit your 2006 Ford F-350 short bed truck. If you want to go with a universal installation kit which costs less money but takes longer to install and requires...

  • Comparing Above Bed 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Install Kits for a 2008 Ford F-350 Long Bed
  • For above the bed 5th wheel rail kits for your 2008 Ford F-350 long bed it boils down to 3 possible categories: custom, semi-custom, and universal. The main difference between these is the amount of drilling into the truck frame required for installation. Custom kits generally require no frame drilling at all. Semi-custom kits will require some drilling. And universal kits require the most drilling. Because custom kits do not require drilling into the frame (for most options) they...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement For 2001 Ford F-250 Towing A Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • I have attached a photo of the # RP50082-58 bracket installed on a truck like yours. As you can see, there is no interference with the bump stop you have installed on the truck. I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TFR250SDE for your 2001 F-250. These do not require any monitoring to make sure you have the system set correctly. When installed they will have about an inch clearance from the bottom of the spring to the axle, so the ride of your truck is not...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty Short Bed, Extended Cab
  • The Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit, # RP50082-58, will fit your 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty short bed, extended cab as long as it is not a step/flareside and not a cab and chassis model. I have included a link to the installation details below. Make sure that you measure for clearance since you have a short bed, extended cab truck. A short bed truck will require at least a slider 5th wheel hitch, and may need a sidewinder replacement pin box on the trailer...

  • Brake Controller/5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2001 Ford F-350 and RBW Lil Rocker
  • We have determined that the RBW Lil Rocker will fit in Reese above the bed rails. For your 2001 Ford F-350 I recommend the custom fit installation kit # RP50082-58. The custom kits require much less drilling so the installation time is estimated as low as 2-1/2 hours. I have included links to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you. You may also want to install in-bed wiring for the trailer, # 50-97-410. This will plug in line with the wiring under the truck...

  • Do the Front Bolts in the 5th Wheel Bed Rail Kit # 50043-6008 Attach to the Frame Brackets
  • Yes, the forward most holes in the bed rails in the # 50043-6008 kit would just have bolts installed through the bed material and the hat channel underneath. They do not attach directly to the frame brackets. This is definitely strong enough for the capacity of the bed rails, which are rated up to 18000lbs for the trailer weight or up to 4500lbs for the pin weight. If it would give you more peace of mind, however, we offer a second custom fifth-wheel rail and bracket kit # RP50082-58...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2006 Ford F-250 Long Bed
  • For your 2006 Ford F-250 long bed there are universal 5th installation kits and custom installation kits. The difference, besides cost, is how long each takes to install and how much drilling is involved. The less expensive universal kit, # RP30035, will fit your truck. But it will take the better part of the day to install and you will have to drill into the truck frame. The custom kits, such as # RP50082-58, cost more but install in about half the time compared to the universal...

  • Dimensions of Bed Rail Mounting Bolts Included with Reese # RP50081-58 5th Wheel Hitch Install Kit
  • It sounds like you're wanting to move the bed rails from one truck to another. If that's the case, you will indeed want to use new bolts as the bolts originally included with the # RP50081-58 kit are intended for a one time use only. The recommended rail bolt kit is part # RP58430, which uses 1/2-13 x 2 inch grade 5 carriage bolts. To attach the frame brackets to the truck frame, the # RP50081F hardware kit is recommended. I've linked you to an install video showing the kit being used...

  • Recommendation for a 5th Wheel Hitch with a 2010 Ford F-250 Short-Bed
  • Your decision should be made on how you plan to use your truck. For me, I would choose the Elite Series 18K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, item # RP30144. My reasons for choosing this hitch are that I own a farm and use the bed of the truck for many other tasks. I also own a gooseneck trailer that would easily be towed using the Elite Series Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, item # RP30845, and would still leave the bed open when not needed. You will need the, # RP30073, installation kit with this hitch. If...

  • Choosing 5th Wheel Install Kit and Air Bag Kit for 2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty Long Bed
  • The difference between a universal-fit 5th wheel install kit and a custom-fit kit is that the custom kit will reduce your overall installation time and the amount of drilling required. They eliminate altogether the need for frame drilling and they naturally cost more for this reason. Neither offers an absolute advantage in terms of strength but with custom kits the larger brackets tend to mean more metal-to-metal contact with the truck's frame. If you take a look at universal install...

  • The Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches, item # RP50082, does not come with the hardware to attach the above bed rails in the bed of your Ford Super duty. The hardware to attach the rails is included in the rail kit, or it can be purchased separately, item # RP58430. • If you used the Reese install kit, part # RP50082-58, your hitch centerline would already be forward of the axle. I have included a link to the instructions below. The last page shows where the hitch should be in relation to the axle. If you move too far forward, you will run into clearance issues when turning. I am wondering if the trailer is nose heavy and moving some things around in the trailer may get some of the pin weight off and reduce the weight on the axle. Hitch up the trailer...
