Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit RP50082-58 Review

Today, we're going to be reviewing part number RP50082. This is the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th-wheel trailer hitches. The custom brackets are going to be these right here on the side. These are actually going to mount beneath your truck bed, and they are going to provide the attachment points for the 5th-wheel rails. All the hardware that I have exposed, meaning all the hardware I have outside of the bag, that is going to be the hardware needed for the custom brackets. It's included, so everything that you need for a full, complete install is going to be included with this part number. All the hardware that I have in the bag is the hardware to get the base rails installed. The base rails are the 2 here on top.

These are designed to sit inside the truck bed, and they are going to allow installation of your 5th-wheel trailer hitch. Keep in mind that when installing the base rails, you do not want to install the mounting rails over plastic bedliners. What you will need to do is actually cut out the portion where the rails would sit of the plastic bedliner, that way we can have metal to metal contact. Now, mounting the rails is okay when doing it over a spray-in bedliner, so you don't have to worry about that. It's just only when using plastic bedliners that you need to trim that out of the way. This system is designed to fit 1999 to 2010 Ford SuperDuty F250 and F350 trucks and also 2008 to 2010 F450 trucks. The brackets here on the side, these are vehicle specific, and they are designed to mount to the existing holes in your vehicle's frame. Having the vehicle specific bracket feature is great because it's going to minimize the amount of drilling and measuring required for an install.

It's also going to cut your installation time in half when compared to universal bracket systems. The kit is going to include your custom brackets, base rails, all necessary hardware for both the custom brackets and the base rails as well as a set of detailed instructions to walk you through step by step for the installation. It is compatible with other hitches such as Curt, DrawTite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley, and Husky. This will not fit the Reese Elite Series or Signature Series or the Valley UBS hitches. It's made from a nice steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it is going to stand up really well against rust and corrosion. The overall length of the base rails measuring from end to end is going to give us a measurement of right on 43", and each one is going to be identical. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP50082. This is the Reese Quick Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th-wheel trailer hitches. .

Your installation videos are very useful for the installations of these RV hitch rails. It took me about 3 hours by myself to install. I needed a third hand to hold parts together and install bolts, but I finished this installation. The finished installation turned out excellent and functioned well hauling my 5th wheel trailer. I would and have recommended your company and products to several of my family members and friends to buy from at etrailer.com. Your videos are both helpful for buying decisions and installing your products. Everything was great except the shipping and shipping time and schedules. I believe the biggest problem could have been the holidays. I was very unhappy concerning the shipping schedules. My packages arrived early and sat for delivery for two extra days, according to UPS notes. 112262

First hitch Reese RP30869 with this bracket. I have a F250 diesel with a 6 and 3/4 bed. We went to a home depot parking lot to put it on, in case we needed any other tools. Very simple to install. We were able to install this hitch with the custom brackets without even taking the tires off. Very easy, took about 3 hours, could have been faster you were to remove the tires-hard to tighten to the right foot pounds. All you need is a few sockets-some deep and some regular, 2" and 6" extension, a torque wrench, drill, drill bits and an extra set of hands if I remember correctly. For my first hitch, everything was pretty easy. Etrailer was very helpful with install videos and customer service was excellent. All pros, no cons, and it looks good too. 159407

I called e trailer and told them what truck and hitch I have and they sent this in the mail. Was very easy install took about 3 hours though time would be cut in half if it came with better instructions. The install video helped me out a bunch though so I'm happy they posted that video. Get yourself quality drill bits my 9/16th was a dewalt titanium bit and after the 6th hole it was shot but I was able to force my way through the last two holes. Very happy with my purchase would definitely recommend and saved myself a ton of money doing it myself :):) 191465

These brackets made my life so much easier as far as the install goes. The print on the instructions was very faded making it hard to see the illustrations. But after reading the text and watching Etrailer.com's informative video for the install on the 2006 f350, it was pretty easy. All total about 2.5 - 3 hours and my brackets and hitch were installed. If I had help im sure it would have been quicker but I did it on my own. The quality of the brackets and hardware was top notch along with super fast shipping and service from Etrailer.com. Thanks! 28413

changed hitches and needed to change the bed and frame rails as my others were not compatable with my new hitch. were alot easier to install than my other frame and bed rails, only time consuming part was trying to get the spacers installed as they were extremely tight and could have used a bit more chamfer on one side to ease the installation of them other than that it is a great product 32687

Rail kit fit well in my 2003 Ford F-350, Easy to install. Called and spoke with customer service to make sure I ordered the right kit, very helpful. All parts came in the two packages, one box was slightly damaged but no missing parts. Will use etrailer again in the future if any replacement parts are needed for the used 5th wheel hitch that I bought 48266

Very easy install, Took me about 2.5hrs. Directions were very easy to understand and all hardware was accounted for. The spacers that go in between the rails and frame brackets were a little tricky to position right but other than that it was a pretty strait forward install. Package came sooner than i thought and everything was very nice quality. 184447

Great service - quick delivery. I researched a lot of 5th wheel hitches for my 2000 f-350 dually and the 20K Reese with the 50058 rail kit was all it claimed to be. The frame mounts lined up perfectly. The only drilling required was the rail mount holes. I am extremely satisfied with the product. 43921

Do you have a question about this Fifth Wheel Installation Kit?

  • Differences Between Pro Series and Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitches for Towing 15,800 Lb Trailer
  • The Pro Series Dual-Jaw 16K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # PS30855, is a standard duty 5th wheel intended for 6-foot and longer truck beds (except flareside and stepside types). It is rated for 16K gross towing weight and 4000-lb tongue weight. The similarly-rated Reese R16 Serrated Dual Jaw 5th Wheel Hitch, part # RP30866, provides several worthwhile upgrades including dual serrated jaws for 360-degree king pin contact, a vibration isolation system for reduced jarring and chucking,...

  • How to Install a 16K Fifth Wheel Hitch # RP30047 In the Bed of a Ford F-350 Long Bed
  • Depending on the model year and design of your F-350 there could be one of several fifth wheel installation kits available. If your vehicle is 1998 or older a universal installation kit, item # RP30035, will be needed. This kit includes brackets that install under the bed of the truck and rails that install in the bed of the truck to accept any of the Reese fifth-wheel hitches, like the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 16,000 lbs, item # RP30047, that you mentioned. According to our installers the custom kit will save you a lot of time and energy because they are designed to fit with the factory construction of your 2006 Ford F-250. The universal kit will work on your vehicle, but it requires a more difficult installation including more drilling than the custom kit. The above bed base rails that are used with the Curt Custom kits are the industry standard above bed rails that are used by Reese and other fifth wheel hitch manufacturers. The custom aspect of the Curt rail kit is the brackets. There is no drilling (into the frame) required to install the custom brackets and they...

It cannot be used with a trailer ball mounted to a draw bar installed into a rear mounted receiver hitch. Your best bet would be to install a fifth wheel hitch in your truck bed. There are slight differences between the base rails from different manufacturers, so a fit cannot be guaranteed. • Fifth Wheel Hitch Bed Rail Placement on 2003 Ford F250 Extended Cab
  • The correct placement will depend on which install kit you are using. I would recommend using a custom kit like the one offered by Reese, part # RP50082-58. The installation instructions for the # RP50082-58 (see link) state that the rear of the back rail is 32-1/4 inches forward of the rear edge of the bed (not the tailgate). This will place the centerline of the hitch approximately 2-15/16 inches forward of the rear axle centerline. These dimensions can vary if you use a different kit.

  • Will Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2550 Fit 2008 Ford F-250 4WD With Fifth Wheel Hitch
  • The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs, part # F2550, will fit your 2008 Ford F-250 4WD if you are using the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit, part # RP50082-58 for your fifth wheel hitch. The Reese install kit includes the Reese Custom Brackets, part # RP50082, that will install on the outside of the frame rails and has a square hole located in the center of the bracket that is where the top mounting bracket of the Firestone kit will install. The Firestone...

  • Will Pro Series 5th Wheel Hitch and Installation Kit PS30132 Fit a 2001 Ford F-350 Dually
  • The # PS30132 Pro Series fifth-wheel hitch and installation kit includes a universal rail kit that will work on your 2001 Ford F-350, but from my research it does look like Ford offered a short bed dually model in the 2001 year. If your truck has a short bed, you would need to go with a fifth-wheel hitch that has a slider instead. The slider prevents the trailer from hitting the back of the cab while maneuvering into tight spots. A comparable hitch with a slider would be the Pro Series...

  • Brake Controller/5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2001 Ford F-350 and RBW Lil Rocker
  • We have determined that the RBW Lil Rocker will fit in Reese above the bed rails. For your 2001 Ford F-350 I recommend the custom fit installation kit # RP50082-58. The custom kits require much less drilling so the installation time is estimated as low as 2-1/2 hours. I have included links to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you. You may also want to install in-bed wiring for the trailer, # 51-97-410. This will plug in line with the wiring under the truck...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit for a 2012 Toyota Tundra Crew Max with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
  • First, to determine if the 16K hitch is enough you will need to know the gross trailer weight. If it is rated under 16,000 pounds then you can use the Reese 16k, # RP30047. If it is very close to 16k or over, the I recommend going with a higher capacity hitch, # RP30081 rated for 20,000 pounds. We do have an installation kit that will fit the 2012 Toyota Tundra with 5-1/2 foot bed. You will use # RP30035-309. With this kit the king pin will be 3-1/2 inches forward of the center of the...

  • Rear Tires Wearing on a Ford F-350 Dually With Overload Springs When Towing a Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • If you used the Reese install kit, part # RP50082-58, your hitch centerline would already be forward of the axle. I have included a link to the instructions below. The last page shows where the hitch should be in relation to the axle. If you move too far forward, you will run into clearance issues when turning. I am wondering if the trailer is nose heavy and moving some things around in the trailer may get some of the pin weight off and reduce the weight on the axle. Hitch up the trailer...

  • Install Kit and Wiring to Install Reese Pro Series Fifth Wheel # PS30094 on 2007 F250 Short Bed
  • Other than the sliding hitch you referenced, part # PS30094, you will need an install kit that includes the rails to attach the hitch to the truck bed and the brackets that attach the rails to the truck frame. There are two different kits that will work with your F250, a universal kit, part # RP30035 and a custom kit, part # RP50082-58. I would recommend the custom kit, as it will cut your install time by 50 percent. You will also need a trailer connector mounted in the truck bed. Typically,...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Installation Kit for a 2006 Chevrolet Short Bed Truck
  • If you click on the link below, you can see the installation instructions for the Universal Install Kit, part # RP30035. The section on page 10 refers to your truck. You might want to consider using one of the custom install kits, which would cut nearly half of the time off of the installation. If your F-250 is the LD model, use part # RP50042-58, or for the HD model, part # RP50082-58. I will provide links to the installation instructions below.

  • Compatibility of Firestone Air Helper Spring Kit # F2550 on 2004 Ford F250 with 5th Wheel Hitch
  • According to our friends at Firestone, the Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs you mentioned, part # F2550 are indeed compatible with a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch installed on a 2004 F250. The Reese fifth wheel install brackets you mentioned part # RP50082-58 would not interfere with the installation or operation of the helper spring kit.

  • Why NOT to Use Bed Bolts for Installing a 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2009 Ford F350
  • The first reason you would not want to use the bed bolts to install fifth wheel hitch rails using truck bed bolts is because it has never been tested, so even if it could potentially work I could not safely recommend you do it. The next reason is, that while the truck bed bolts do attach to the frame, they attach to a portion of the frame that consists of relatively thin formed sheet hat channel, not thick structural channel or tube. This would crush under the weight of a heavy trailer....

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Custom Installation Kit for 2004 F-350 Dually
  • I do not show the Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Rails and Installation Kit # PS30132 to be a fit for your 2004 F-350 dually. However, I do have a fit for you that comes with custom rails. I recommend going with the Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # PS30119, and the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP50082-58. This kit includes the brackets and base rails and is a custom installation kit that mounts to existing holes on your frame and can be...

  • Which 5th Wheel Trailer hitch Installation Kits Fit a 2009 Ford F-150 with 6-1/2 Foot Bed
  • For a custom fit 5th wheel installation kit for your 2009 Ford F-150, 6-1/2 foot bed, you can use Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit, # RP50081-58. I have included a link to the installation details for reference. If you already have Reese rails, the brackets alone are # RP50081. If you do not have Reese rails, I do not recommend mixing bracket and rail manufacturers as the parts have not been tested together. Another custom install kit that includes rails...

  • Will Curt E5 Fifth-Wheel Trailer Hitch Work to Pull a 36ft Jayco Trailer with a 2005 Ford F-250
  • The Curt E5 fifth-wheel hitch # 16516 should work well on your 2005 Ford F-250, but you will need to make sure that the Jayco trailer weighs less than 16000 pounds loaded. To mount this fifth-wheel in your truck, you would use rail installation kit # RP50082-58, which would put rails in your truck bed into which the fifth-wheel hitch would be installed. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the rail kit and a demonstration video so you can get a good idea of...

  • To install the Pro Series 15,000 lbs. slider in your 2007 Ford F350 Crew Cab the correct installation kit is the Reese Custom Base Rails And Installation Kit, # RP50082-58. This kit will give you the above-bed rails, the custom brackets and all the hardware needed to install on your vehicle. The fifth wheel slider is designed for a 6-1/2 foot bed. The slider can be used in a 8 foot bed but you will want to lock the slider in place to keep it from sliding. This is a good choice because...
