Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Curt Custom Fit Fifth Wheel Installation Kit with the gloss black base rails for the Dodge Trucks. Now, this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2006 to 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 extended crew cab trucks and also works on the 2003 to 2012 Dodge Ram and Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show if this will work for application. Now, this kit is a complete installation kit. It'll allow you to install a fifth wheel to your truck bed.
The kit will include everything shown here on top of the table. It'll include these side mounting brackets that are custom fit, includes the base rails, includes all the hardware you need for installation and even a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how everything goes together. Now, I wanted to zoom in on these side brackets. These are, we mentioned a custom fit mounting bracket on the side here. These will mount beneath your truck bed and they provide the attachment points for these fifth wheel rails.
They do have a nice black powder coat finish on to resist corrosion, and they will provide a custom fit by mounting to the existing holes in your vehicle's frame. You can see how the mounting bracket has the holes already drilled in it. They'll line up to the holes in your frame so that'll minimize the amount of drilling that's required which in turn will cut the installation time in half when compared with the universal bracket kits. Now, the base rails, these right here, these base rails are what'll sit in your truck bed. They allow the installation of the fifth wheel trailer hitch to your vehicle.
These rails will be visible in your truck bed. If you notice these have a gloss black finish to it to match the color of your fifth wheel hitch and these are industry standard rails that are compatible with B&W, Curt Draw-Tite, Reese and the Husky Above bed fifth Wheel Trailer hitches. Instructions were good all the parts and pieces were there. Installation time was a little off but when working in your driveway it still works out in a timely manor.

I wish they had a rating lower than poor. Product installation instructions are extremely poor. Kit is so universal it doesn't fit anything. The 90 minute installation time is just what it takes to read and try to figure out the poor instructions. Curt needs to have they documentation department actually do an installation based on their own instructions to find out just how bad they really are. I now know why the installation performed on my other truck looks so bad. I thought it was they installers, but it is actually the fault of the kit and the included materials. An engineer and toolmaker for 42 years proved to be my only saving grace. It is lucky for me I have a machine shop in my garage to make the parts that were needed to complete the installation. I would not recommend this kit to anyone, pro or novice. The only part of the instruction that was correct was when they tell you to drop the spare tire for better access. A major pain to install and to make safe. This issue is more with Curt and not with E-trailer.

I had to shim my installation on the front bracketsIt did not make sense the shimmingIf you installed it the way the installation showed it would have crusted the bed down8 BLIPPING hr. install up down up down up down up down on and onrear bracket are good though SUCKED

Great product second one first was a ford 250 worked great got the custom set up .The next was for a dodge 3500 crew duelly 2011 ordered it on a Wednesday got it Friday afternoon that was fast shipping have not installed it yet but the kit is a custom for my truck came as stated all parts accounted for will use this company every time oh a shout out to my sales girl Renee she was A great help kit No. was C16420-104 for Curt K16

Excellent product. I had to enlarge a frame hole in order to get the necessary pieces in. A long screwdriver and a strong punch helped get the tube spacers in place. It took me longer than 90 minutes to install, but it was not a problem. I would buy the exact same thing again. Ordered late Wed. night and I had it on Monday. Great product, great service.
