B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

Not only does this kit provide you with a sturdy, custom base for installing your Companion fifth-wheel trailer hitch in the bed of your truck, but it also doubles as one of the most recognizable gooseneck hitches on the market. This fifth wheel installation kit actually is the Turnoverball gooseneck hitch from B&W.

Gooseneck Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 30,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 7,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"

B&W Companion Installed in Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

With the B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch you get the best of both worlds. When you go to tow a gooseneck trailer, the Turnoverball creates a sturdy, dependable connection with your trailer. And when you're done towing, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch to get full bed access and a clean appearance. When you're ready to tow your fifth wheel trailer, just install the Companion in the ball hole in place of the gooseneck ball and lock the post in place using the built-in handle. You can remove the fifth wheel when you're done towing, leaving your truck bed open once again.

Simple, Custom Installation

This kit is custom designed for your vehicle. The mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.

Galvanic Corrosion Limiting Tape

Once you have the brackets and center section installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the mounting post of the Companion (or the base of the gooseneck hitch ball).

Video Transcript for B and W Fifth Wheel Underbed Kit Installation - 2018 Ford F-250

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford F250 we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches, part number BWGNRK1117-5W. This 5th Wheel Installation Kit is designed to let you install your B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches. The adapters are part number BWRVK3500 or part number BWRVK3400. The underbed design of this kit allows for full truck bed access when you're ready. It's under five minutes to convert your empty truck bed into a 5th wheel hitch. We'll start by unlocking our B&W hitch and installing our 5th wheel adapter. We have ours preassembled, but you can adjust the uprights here depending on your truck and trailer combination.

At this point, the hitch is ready to attach to the trailer. There's a little clip here that you can release. Basically, it's a safety pin. Then you can swing the handle out and you can watch the jaws open. You're ready to back onto your trailer.

Once you're secure under the trailer, you can reinstall the clip. Since the 5th Wheel Installation Kit doubles as a gooseneck hitch, when you're not towing your 5th wheel you can remove it, turn it over, and we can store it upside down in the hitch, that way we have full bed access. Now, the way we're going to be able to remove or put our ball in is, we come to the handle here on the driver side. We're going to pull it all the way out and then push it towards the front and we'll lock it in place. Then we'll be able to remove the ball and once we have it in the position we want, we can bring the handle back to center, and it'll lock it in. The safety chain loops are going to be recessed down and they're spring loaded, so we can just lift them up.

We're going to have plenty of room to even get those large, oversized hooks in place. Our hitch is going to have a 7,500 pound vertical load limit along with a 30,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. Now, with those numbers in mind you want to double check your truck's owner's manual and make sure it can handle pulling that amount of weight. B&W made the shank on the ball a square shape, which is going to reduce the chance of the ball turning inside the hitch. The ball is a standard 2-5/16 inch ball. Our B&W gooseneck hitch is going to have a lot of different options when it comes to accessories.

You can simply remove the ball, and any accessory you choose to use would just go into the receiver tube. Now, as far as the installation goes, it is designed to work with existing holes in the frame, so we're not going to have to drill into the frame at all. We're just going to have to drill the large hole to get the ball through, and then four smaller holes for our safety chain points. That's going to dramatically cut down on the installation time, and the end result is going to give us a nice clean finished looking system. Now that we've gone over the features and seen what our gooseneck looks like, let's show you how to get it installed.First thing you're going to want to do, is you're going to want to measure the bed and we're going to mark the location where we're going to be drilling our hole in our bed for our gooseneck. Now, you want to go ahead and double check those measurements. You're going to measure from the tailgate up, make a mark, and then you're going to find the center of the bed by measuring the wheel wells and the intersecting mark is where you're going to make your pilot hole. Now, before you start drilling you want to make sure that there's nothing under the bed that may get damaged. When you start drilling you just want to have even pressure and go slow. Now we have our pilot hole drilled. We can come back with a hole saw and drill that out to the final size. Now, we're going to have to drill a 4 inch hole in our bed, so I have a 4 inch hole saw, and I also have an old scrap piece of wood that I drilled several holes in. This is going to help keep my drill steady so I'm not jumping around when I start to drill. Now, the key when drilling with a hole saw through the bed is you want to go really light pressure with high speed, and just let the hole saw do the work. I'm going to come back with a file, I'm going to file down the edges so they're not so sharp. It's never a good idea to leave exposed metal on your truck. I'm going to take a little bit of clear spray paint and I'm going to go around the edge, hopefully preventing any kind of rust or corrosion from building up.When we come to the passenger side frame rail now we're going to notice that we have two holes right in between where our axle is. If we look, there's going to be a welded bracket on the inside of the frame. Most 4x4 trucks are going to have that bracket. Some two wheel drives will, but our kit is going to come with that inner bracket, but since ours are welded on we're not going to use it. If you don't have a bracket there, you're just going to have to put the bracket on the inside. We can take our outer bracket, and we're going to know it's the passenger side because it's going to have the B&W sticker on it and there's not going to be instructions for operating the handle. We're going to lift our plate into position. We're going to line up with those two holes in the frame. We're going to take a 5/8 bolt with a flat washer on it and we're going to go through our bracket all the way through the frame on both hooks. We can just let our bracket sit there for now and we're going to move underneath to the inside of the frame so we can get the hardware to attach it. On the inside of the frame we're going to take another 5/8 flat washer followed up by a 5/8 lock washer, and then finally secure it down with a nut. Now, we don't want to tighten these down all the way, we just want to make them nice and snug by hand. That way, the bracket's going to be flush against the frame. We'll do that for both of our bolts. We'll do the same thing on the driver's side. Our driver's side bracket is going to have the instructions for the handle, so we'll know which one it is. We can get ready to install our cross member brackets now. Now, this is going to be the passenger rear bracket. The easiest way to find out which one it is, is that this tab here with the two holes in it is always going to be facing in, and the ears are always going to be facing each other. The rear one's going to be facing forward, but the front one is going to be facing towards the back. Now, these two holes here are going to line up with our inner and outer brackets on our frame. We can lift it up, we're going to go over our exhaust. We're going to go over the flange on the top of that inner frame bracket, and we're going to slide it in until the holes line up on the bottom here on the inside and the outside bracket. Once our bracket's lined up, we're going to take our 1/2 inch bolts that have the thread locker applied and we're going to go ahead and hand tighten those into position so that the bracket will support itself. You don't want to run these down just yet, you want to get everything in nice and loose. We'll get both bolts in place. Now, we're going to go ahead and repeat that for all the other remaining brackets. Just want to double check which one you have and make sure the holes line up properly. We can grab our front cross member, and that's going to be the thicker of the two bars and it's not going to have threaded holes in it. You'll notice on each end we're going to have some large holes, and in the middle they're going to be smaller. You want the two large holes to go towards the passenger side, and the one large hole to go towards the driver side. When we get it in place, you're going to go behind the driver side bracket towards the back of the truck, and you're going to be in front of the passenger side bracket towards the cab. Then we're going to take our long 5/8 bolts and we're going to go through the very outer hole on our cross member bracket, coming from the front going towards the back of the truck. We're going to push our bolt all the way through the cross member bracket and the cross member itself. Take a little bit of patience because it is very limited space. We're going to have to reach above our gas tank, and it'll help support our cross member. Now, on the passenger side we're going to have this washer plate. We're going to have two large holes on one end and then some smaller ones going down. You want to put the two large ones on the very end where we're going to put two more 5/8 bolts doing through our washer plate and then our cross member, and finally the cross member bracket. We're going to line it up on the back of our cross member, lift it into position, and then again, coming from the front towards the cab we're going to pass our bolts through, and now our cross member will support itself. Now on the driver's side we're going to take our washer plate, we're going to slide it over the end of our bolt, followed by a lock washer, and then finally a hex nut to secure it. On the passenger side we're going to take a lock washer and nut to secure everything. We're not going to have that additional plate. Now, our rear cross member is going to be a solid piece with some threaded holes. Now, on each end we're going to have two 5/8 threaded holes. We're going to take our rear cross member and it's going to line up with our cross member brackets. Coming from the front towards the cab, we're going to take a 5/8 bolt, lock washer, and a flat washer. We're going to go through the cross member bracket and secure it to the cross member by threading it in. Now, you just want to get these in there hand tight so that it won't fall down. We'll get one on each end so that we can get the rest of the hardware in place. We can grab our center section, and you want to make sure that the latching mechanism here is facing towards the driver side and the longer square piece below the hole is going to be going towards the back. We can lift it up, line up the four holes on our cross members, and then secure it down with the hardware. When we're attaching our center section to the rear cross member, we're going to take our 1/2 inch bolts with a lock washer and a flat washer and we're going to thread it in to where it's going to go through the center section and then into the cross member. We're going to have a total of four bolts on the rear cross member. We're just going to get all of these in hand tight so we won't have to worry about the hitch falling down. For our front cross member we're going to come from the front side going towards the back of our truck. We're going to take our long 1/2 inch bolts going to that washer, the front cross member, and then the center section. To secure it, we're going to take a 1/2 inch washer followed by a lock washer, and secure it all down with a nut. We'll make sure to put that combination of hardware on the remaining bolts. With our hitch in place, I'm going to come back with a 3/4 inch socket and wrench, and I'm going to tighten up the hardware that's holding my center section to the cross members first. Next with a 3/4 inch socket also, we're going to come to the passenger side inside bracket that's attaching our frame bracket to our front cross member, and we'll tighten up that bolt. Next we're going to tighten that same bolt on the driver side rear. Now, with those bolts tight, now you want to go ahead and check your center section from above and make sure that it's centered in that hole that we drilled earlier. If it is, we can go ahead and finish up tightening all the bolts underneath. We're going to come back with a 3/4 inch socket, and I'm going to tighten all my 1/2 inch hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. You're going to repeat that for all of our remaining hardware. With all of our bolts torqued down, we can go ahead and put our handle assembly in. Now, if we look right above our side plate here, we're going to have our bed stiffener, and then our plate is going to extend out just a little bit. We want to go right in between the plate and the bed stiffener. There's very little room so you're just going to have to kind of work it in there a little bit. Once you get past the wheel well here, should have a little bit more room to move it around. We're going to push it all the way in, then we go underneath and start attaching it.Here's our handle that's going to meet up with a latch mechanism on our hitch. The first thing we need to do is, we need to pull this out and then we're going to push it towards the cab so that catch will catch and we have enough room to get our bolts in place. We can line up our handle with our holes on the hitch, and I just want to mention you want to be extremely careful when you're working because you don't want to get your hand in here, accidentally bump something, and have the pin retract and get your hand stuck in there. Going to drop our carriage bolt through the handle and then through the latch mechanism. Then we're going to take a flange nut, we're going to loosely secure it. Then we can get the other one in place.Once we have these hand tight, I'm going to go ahead and release the latch back inside. Then we can tighten them back up. I'm going to come back with a 1/2 inch socket and I'll tighten up the nuts. On either side of our center section we're going to have two holes, and that's where our safety chain loops are going to come down. I'm going to take a small drill bit and I'm going to drill a pilot hole going up from the bottom of the bed to the top. We're going to do that for all four hole locations. With my pilot holes drilled, I'm going to come back with a 1/2 inch drill bit and I'm going to enlarge the holes to that size. We'll repeat that for the other three remaining holes. Now I'm just going to take a little bit of spray paint, cover up those holes, and we're going to have two U bolts in our kit. Just going to slide them down so they drop down through the bed. Now, underneath where our U bolts came out, we're going to take one of our springs, and make sure you put the large side facing up towards the bed, and then we're going to take a 1/2 inch nut and we're going to thread it on by hand for now. We're going to do that for each one of our U bolts. I'm going to take a 3/4 inch socket and tighten up my nuts with the bottom of the springs. Now, when we tighten them up we just want to tighten them up so they're flush with the bottom of the bolt. Just like that where just the very edge of the bottom bolt is coming out. We'll do that for the rest of them as well. Now finally, you want to make sure that the latch is open or pulled all the way out. Then we can drop our ball in place, lock it in, and we can hook up to our trailer. That'll finish up your look at the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches, part number is BWGNRK1117-5W on our 2018 Ford F250.

Install a Companion fifth-wheel hitch in your truck bed with this custom kit. Better than a traditional mounting kit, this setup doubles as a gooseneck hitch when the fifth wheel is removed, and the underbed design allows for full bed access.

Great packaging and instructions. After determining all the part locations, I marked each one including their orientation. Made assembly easier. Impressed with the engineering to make it all fit together. It took work to get the bolts all torqued. Not much room to maneuver my big torque wrench. Max torque on bolts is 150 pounds. 603957

Nice fitting. Installation was a bit more difficult because I had previously installed air bags. Other that that it works well and the 5th wheel sets right in. 526125

Product arrived a day early. It was in great shape when it arrived. I installed the hitch in about 3 hours. Fit very well and was relatively simple to install on my 2017 Ford F350. Very impressed with the quality and finishes. The instructions were good the but the online the video on installation was extremely helpful. Installing the lock lever was the most difficult. Hard to fit it between the frame and truck bed. 476298

Do you have a question about this Fifth Wheel Installation Kit?

  • Best 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2017 Ford F-350
  • The best fifth wheel trailer hitch for you depends on the details of your 2017 Ford F-350. The Reese Elite Series is a great choice, especially if you have the factory prep package. The Elite fits right into Ford's factory pucks so there's no need for an adapter. If your truck is an 8 foot bed use the stationary hitch # RP30142 but you'll need the slider # RP30144 if your truck is a short bed. They're both 18,000 pound hitches. Another great option is the B&W Companion. The Companion...

For a 2WD use part # BWGNRK1116-5W and for a 4WD use part # BWGNRK1117-5W. This system gives you a gooseneck hitch and hitch ball that is compatible with the B&W Companion...

  • What is the Best Truck for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • You are doing the right thing by doing the research first. There is a lot of conflicting information out there so let me break it down for you and I will provide some part recommendations at the end. Basically, if you want to tow a 5th wheel trailer, the best trucks are going to be long bed 3/4 or 1 tons like a Ford F-250/F-350, Chevy/GMC 2500/3500, or Ram 2500/3500. Half ton trucks could work but are not nearly as capable as the larger trucks. A long bed for sure is something you will...

  • The B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3400-5W weighs about 282 lbs while the Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1117-5W for your 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty (4WD) weighs in at about 143 lbs. I reached out to my contact at B&W who confirmed this. Please note that if you have the 2WD version then you need the Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1116-5W instead. This does weigh the same so you will be adding about 425 lbs to your pickup either way. Since...

  • USA-Made B&W and Demco 5th Wheel Hitches with Under-Bed Installation Kit for 2019 Ford F-350
  • For your 2019 Ford F-350 dually without the factory 5th wheel prep we can help you with an under-bed 5th wheel install kit similar to the OEM kit to keep the bed free of base rails that can get in the way when you're using the truck for cargo applications. For a short bed I recommend the B&W 20K Slider hitch # BWRVK3400-5W and the under-bed install kit # BWGNRK1117-5W. If you have a long bed you'll use the same install kit but instead use a fixed hitch # BWRVK3500-5W. I strongly urge...

  • Will B&W Companion fit Short Bed 2017 Ford F-350?
  • There is a B&W Companion that will work for your 2017 Ford F-350, though the # BWRVK3300 is a fixed hitch and you will need the sliding version in order to avoid damage to your F-350's cab when making sharp turns since you have a 6-3/4' bed. The Companion for your '17 F-350 with the fifth wheel prep package is # BWRVK3370. You have made a wise choice in fifth wheel hitch because the Companion is considered by many to be the highest-quality fifth wheel hitch available. It features dual...

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for 2018 Ford F-350 without Factory Rail Kit
  • Since you have a long bed I'd recommend using the head setting of the B and W Hitch BWRVK3500 that is in the center right above the rear axle. Then you'd want to install the rail kit part # BWGNRK1117-5W using the attached install instructions and video as a guide.

  • Under-Bed Fifth Wheel Rail Kit for 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty
  • The Reese Under-Bed Rail Kit # RP30073 that you referenced will not fit your 2017 Ford F-250. It's designed for older model year Super Duty trucks. The under-bed kits we currently carry for your truck are the Demco # DM8551009 to be used with Demco fifth wheel hitches # DM8550032, # DM8550022, or # DM8550037 and the B&W # BWGNRK1117-5W to be used with the B&W Companion hitches # BWRVK3500-5W or # BWRVK3400-5W.

  • Underbed 5th Wheel Rail Mounting Systems for a 2017 Ford F-350 4WD With an 8 Foot Bed
  • Yes, we do have some underbed mounting systems for your 2017 Ford F-350, but unfortunately there are no Reese 5th wheel hitch options rated for 26K. The only Reese hitch that fit with their Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit # RP30126 was the Reese Elite 18K # RP30142. Neither of which are a fit for your F-350. If you were wanting to stick with the below bed rails we have an option from B&W which is their Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1117-5W along with the Companion # BWRVK3500-5W...

  • Underbed 5th Wheel Install Kit with Gooseneck Hitch for a 2017 Ford F-350 King Ranch
  • Reese Elite Series 5th wheel installation kit with gooseneck hitch # RP30138-26 only fits up to the 2016 Ford F-350 and will not fit a 2017 but there are other options for the 2017 for both a gooseneck hitch and underbed 5th wheel install kit. If you have a 2-wheel drive model you can use B&W kit # BWGNRK1116-5W. This is a gooseneck hitch that accepts the Companion hitch, # BWRVK3400-5W for a short bed or # BWRVK3500-5W for a long bed. If your truck is a 4x4 then the install kit is...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for a 2018 Ford F-350
  • You certainly can. You just need a fifth wheel hitch and an install bracket kit. I recommend the B&W kit and Companion hitch. The insall kit for your for your 2018 Ford F-350 is part # BWGNRK1116-5W if your truck is 2-wheel drive or part # BWGNRK1117-5W if it's 4-wheel drive. I like the B&W kits because the fifth wheel install kit is actually a gooseneck hitch in case you ever need it in the future. It's also an underbed kit so you don't have the fifth wheel rails taking up space. Then...

  • There is not currently a Reese under-bed system confirmed to fit the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, we do have a couple of other under-bed options for your vehicle. The main difference between these is that the # BWRVK3500 is a fixed hitch, which...

  • Will the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch Work With a 2017 Ford F-250 and a Trailer With a Sidewinder
  • As long as your 2017 Ford F-250 has the factory puck system installed, then yes, the B&W Companion Hitch # BWRVK3300 will work great in addition to your Sidewinder. If your F-250 does not have the factory puck system then you will need a slightly different setup. You will need to install the Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BWGNRK1117-5W, and you will need to use the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W. But in the event that your 5th wheel trailer has a pivoting Sidewinder/Revolution pin box then you can use the fixed version of the hitch # BWRVK3305. • Is a B&W Gooseneck Hitch Compatible with Firestone Ride-Rite Air Bags in a 2018 Ford F-250
  • Firestone does not have a kit that will work with a B&W gooseneck trailer hitch in a 2018 Ford F-250. The upper brackets mount to the outside of the frame rails and would interfere with the gooseneck frame brackets. You could switch to Air Lift system # AL57399 for a 4x4 or # AL57391 for 2-wheel drive models because they mount to the bottoms of the frame rails.
