Simple, Secure Hookup
With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.
Non-Binding R16 Roller
Specially designed for trucks with 6' to 8' beds, this non-binding slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Although I haven't pulled my new fifthwheel camper yet. The unit seems like it should be pretty easy to maintain. A little grease here and there. Only time will tell. Installed everything in about 4hrs. Above rail kit, hitch, and wiring.1423590

After the first pull of the camper. I noticed the slop some people commented on. It allows a little more back and forth shifting than expected but was not bad. I havent heard any rattling though. Overall I would buy again. Hitch seems solid and easy to maintain. The sliding function works well. Although I will rarely use it its nice have when needed.

This hitch installed easily into my pickup, and pulls my camper just fine with very little road noise. My only complaint is the shipping. My first delivery was damaged during shipment to the point where it had lost most of it's hardware. etrailer sent me out a replacement unit which all made it to my house, but the boxes were still very damaged and were starting to develop holes in them.1404253
by: 06/03/2022
After watching the video it easy to install. Little more play in the slider than expected hopefully it will be okay.1308364
It is normal for a Slide Bar Jaw 5th wheel to be quite noisy because its not quite a snug fit around your king pin. Double jaws are better, and single jaws are the best, as it wraps around the king pin the tightest.

Successfully installed this hitch even in a RAM Box. I did remove 2" from the handles so I have the proper clearance for the RAM box. That shortened length hasn't changed my ability to unlock the hitch for either function even being 5'-8". I do think this installation method with U-bolts that go around the frame is easier than the 1/2 ton version I installed which pulled knurled bolts through the factory frame holes to hold the support brackets.512542
Easy to use sliding and kingpin locking, the sliders and jaw have higher tolerances so there is a bit of chucking. I put around 15k miles on in the year that I've had it and the slider and jaw mechanisms still lock and release like new.991497
Comments
After a year, there is now around 10k towing miles on this hitch, and it still looks and performs like new.

No it was suppose to be for a 2014 Dodge ram yet it would not fit without fabricating something with the frame. I contacted the company and ask about a return they wanted me to pay like xx dollars for the shopping fee but I could get no one to help me get it boxed and back to the company so I still have it.1316997

I am sorry this has been troublesome for you. I noticed that you only bought the 5th wheel slider and you did not buy the install kit rails that it sits on. This is why the installers could not install it. If you still want to put the 5th wheel in your truck, please let me know what size bed you have and if you have an ecoboost.

I have a short bed truck, and using the Curt 16516 system Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller, will give me the added clearance I will need for tight turns and maneuvering. Curt's instructions were fairly clear, and parts were well defined. These products are extremely well-made.
Once again, etrailer shipped quickly. Their communication and customer service are great. Thank you etrailer team. I am now ready to get my rig on the road.662988

While the jury is out on pulling with this 5th wheel hitch, etrailer did a really nice job promptly shipping my order. The unit is exactly what I expected and installed onto my base rails quite nicely. Thanks guys.635644
Hitch is well made and went together without a problem.
I like the slide mechanism, works smoothly.
I looked at other hitches and this one seems to have the best features for the price.
Shipping from etrailer was fast even with the holidays.594120
This hitch works as advertised. As far as being loud I don’t hear much of anything. I installed this myself and had the pull lever upside down. Once you get that straightened out it’s perfect. No issues.1311387

First of all Etrailer.com shipped the hitch the same day ordered and I recieved it the next day. Outstanding! The hitch installation went well however the directions could be better. Just installed and haven't towed yet. So far very pleased.700563
This is my first hitch. I decided to go this route after finding out the dealership wanted over 1500 to install rails hitch and plug.
Install was not too aweful bad I did the install in about 4 hours of everything. I took my time so nothing would be screwed up. The install videos where awesome and very discriptive. 346172

I ordered on a Monday and got the equipment on Wed. I started the installation Wed after noon. Finished Thur. about 11:00 am. I did all the work myself with a little help from my son on holding the U bolts. I am 75.5 years old and had no trouble with the instructions. Thanks. PS Added the Jeep picture for fun.184654

the locking spring for slider is too strong. Very hard to disengage the slider lock from standing on ground standing next to truck bed. System needs a weaker spring. I devised a method of unlocking the slider but still PITA when towing fifth wheel.1162171

Works fine so far. Installed per the plans that came with it no issues. It’s heavy and if you could figure out a pin and key system for attaching the hitch to the base you could save some time putting it in and taking it out. Good hitch for the price though.1240684

Great kit. Bolted together quickly! The boxes being heavy caused holes to be punched into the boxes. This caused a nut to go missing for the hitch release handle.448195
Excellent product. Installation wasn't to bad, did take some time but overall wasn't horrible. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but works flawlessly. I chose this hitch for two reasons. 1. It's a simple yet reliable design from a great manufacturer. 2. I needed the lower height adjustment than the Q series offered. My '06 dodge doesn't have any aftermarket suspension parts but I do run 285 70/17 tires and it does sit a little bit higher. Glad I did because the lower height adjustment is almost perfect. I highly recommend getting a lube plate to go with any fifth wheel hitch, very cheap and no mess. As far as etrailer.com goes. This is the best place I've ever ordered from. Great communication and very fast shipping. The hitch arrived days faster than expected even with the bad weather delays. You can't go wrong with this item or this company. I will definitely be ordering from here in the future and will be buying more Curt products.238344

First, the service etrailer provided was Excellent! The sales person spent at least 30 min on the phone answering my questions and helping me pick the correct product. Once I had the correct product they in [shipped] two days. I was able to install the hitch in time for my planned trip and the hitch works great. I am towing a 12k + pound fifth wheel and have had no issues with the hitch.667794

Since you are pulling 5th wheel trailers for hire then presumably they would all be different shapes and sizes. You will likely have to adjust the height of the 5th wheel hitch and/or the pin box on the trailer to tow the trailers level.
Ideally you will have 5 or 6 inches from the tops of the bed sides to the bottom of the 5th wheel overhang when the trailer is level.
When hooking up a 5th wheel trailer to the hitch you will need to have the skid plate on the 5th wheel hitch about 1/2... view full answer...

You are correct. What you will do is get the rear rail in position and then use the hitch placed in the rear rail to locate the position of the front rail. The front rail will be approximately 22 inches forward of the rear rail measured from the center of the rear rail to the center of the front rail. But using the hitch to located the front rail will ensure that the hitch will fit properly once everything is installed. view full answer...
Yes, you can use a Sidewinder instead of a slider hitch on your 2014 Ram 2500. But you will need to know the manufacturer and model number of the pin box to see if there is a Sidewinder that will fit. This information is usually on a sticker or plate on the pin box.
Then you can use the link to the Sidewinder help article to determine which, if any, will fit.
I have also included a link to a help article on some of the hitches that are NOT compatible with a Sidewinder for you.

There are no restrictions on the height that you can set the 5th wheel hitch head to using the Curt 5th wheel slider # 16516. The instructions show the hitch (2 different versions) being installed at the second highest and highest setting, respectively. I have linked the instructions for you. We also have installed this hitch in the same way you have described.

The correct height for your hitch really depends on your fifth wheel trailer and truck setup. Basically you want your trailer to sit as level as possible so you will need to pick the correct height adjustment of the # 16516 based on what will give you a level setup for your trailer.
What you will do is park the truck and trailer on level ground. Using the landing gear/jacks on the 5th wheel to make it level, then measure from the ground to the bottom of the pin box skid plate, not the... view full answer...
In order to hook up your fifth wheel trailer, you will want to start with the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # 165616, locked in the tow position.
When it comes time to make tight turns or when maneuvering your trailer into a camp site and need that extra turning radius, you will need to pull on the slider handle and turn to unlock the hitch. Now you can pull your tow vehicle forward which will slide and lock the hitch into the maneuvering position.

No, you won't be able to replace a Lippert 1716 pin box with a Lippert 1116. The issue is that the 1116 uses a third row of bolt holes that are likely not present on the wings on the trailer the pin box attaches to. You could take off the pin box you have to see if the center row of bolt holes is there though.
Then you would have to contact the trailer manufacturer and/or Lippert to make sure it is ok to switch pin boxes. Please note that changing the length of the pin box will move the... view full answer...
There are a few things that you will want to take into consideration when determine the towing capacity of your 2014 Dodge 2500 Ram Mega Cab.
First, you will need to find the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of your Ram. This may be located on a spec label on the inside of your door or in your owners manual if you have one. A local Dodge dealer can also find this rating with the VIN.
Once you have your GCWR, you simply subtract the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of your Ram, which can... view full answer...
When installing the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller, part # 16516 on your Ford Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty you will want approximately 5 or 6 inches of clearance between the camper and the bed rails. I also spoke with my contact at Curt and he said you will want to torque the 44 mm bolts to 75 ft/lbs.
I attached a link to the installation instructions for this Curt E5 16K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch # 16516 for you to check out as well as a demonstration video. view full answer...
It sounds like you are trying to pull the slider release lever of the Curt Hitch part # 16516 while standing in the bed of the truck.
The lever is designed so that it's the easiest to grab while standing next to the truck. Try that and see as it should be much easier. view full answer...
Since your Ford F-150 has a 5-1/2 foot bed you will need a Sidewinder King Pin to make sharp turns. A Sidewinder will move the pivot point back and provide 22 inches of additional clearance, which makes it possible to pull 5th wheels with short-bed trucks. It will also provide more turning clearance than a sliding fifth wheel hitch.
I have included a link to our page for Sidewinder pin boxes where you can find a suitable replacement for the standard pin box on your trailer if it is so... view full answer...
Slider hitches have a lot of moving parts. It is nearly impossible to tow with a slider hitch and not get at least a little bit of noise or "chucking" as the slack from the moving parts moves around.
The only solution we have would be to go with a cushioned pin box to help soften the chucking.
In order to pick out the correct cushioned pin box for your fifth wheel trailer you will need to know which pin box model you have on your trailer. Most king pins will have the pinbox number listed... view full answer...
Some of the problems you might experience when your fifth wheel is towing high are increased trailer sway and limited ground clearance at the rear of the trailer, increasing the likelihood of your trailer bottoming out.
There are some adjustments you can make in order to tow level. You can try lowering your fifth wheel hitch at the hitch receiver. There are multiple height settings on your hitch, so if it is not already set on the lowest position, you can lower your hitch to level out... view full answer...
If your bed liner is the spray-in type, you can simply install the fifth wheel hitch rails directly on top of it. However, if your bed liner is the hard plastic drop-in type, the liner would need to be trimmed away so that the bed rails have direct metal-to-metal contact with the truck bed. If the rails are installed directly over a drop-in liner, eventually the portion of the liner under the rails will deteriorate, which would cause the rails to become loose and lead to a dangerous situation.... view full answer...
It sounds like you could have a set of standard fifth wheel rails that most manufacturers use for their fifth wheel hitches to install into. The different manufacturers all make their own brand of rail kit, but they all have basically the same dimensions so that other manufacturers hitches would fit into them. Check out the picture I attached to see dimensions of standard rails and compare them to yours.

So the ideal amount of clearance between the trailer overhang and the bed rails of the truck is 6 inches while the trailer is sitting as level as possible. If your trailer sits perfectly level and you currently have 5 inches you probably will be fine as long as you don't plan to travel on any extreme elevation changes. Some say that 4 to 6 inches is okay but we tend to have people shoot for 6 inches to be extra safe.
But let's say you can raise the nose of your trailer up to get it level... view full answer...
