E16 5th Wheel Jaw

Simple, Secure Hookup

With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.

R16 5th Wheel Roller

Non-Binding R16 Roller

Specially designed for trucks with 6' to 8' beds, this non-binding slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

the locking spring for slider is too strong. Very hard to disengage the slider lock from standing on ground standing next to truck bed. System needs a weaker spring. I devised a method of unlocking the slider but still PITA when towing fifth wheel.

Successfully installed this hitch even in a RAM Box. I did remove 2" from the handles so I have the proper clearance for the RAM box. That shortened length hasn't changed my ability to unlock the hitch for either function even being 5'-8". I do think this installation method with U-bolts that go around the frame is easier than the 1/2 ton version I installed which pulled knurled bolts through the factory frame holes to hold the support brackets.

Great hitch good instructions to install. Works well with lippert turning point hitch if you buy the proper wedge for this hitch to help eliminate extra movement towing with the standard lippert wedge. Like having option to tow traditional or with lippert 5th wheel hitch while using this Curt hitch.

I have a short bed truck, and using the Curt 16516 system Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller, will give me the added clearance I will need for tight turns and maneuvering. Curt's instructions were fairly clear, and parts were well defined. These products are extremely well-made. Once again, etrailer shipped quickly. Their communication and customer service are great. Thank you etrailer team. I am now ready to get my rig on the road.

Hard to get the front nuts on the bolts because you have a inch of space between the frame and bottom of bolt but other than that very smooth installation and a great product

- 16516
by:

Easy to use sliding and kingpin locking, the sliders and jaw have higher tolerances so there is a bit of chucking. I put around 15k miles on in the year that I've had it and the slider and jaw mechanisms still lock and release like new.

Hitch is well made and went together without a problem. I like the slide mechanism, works smoothly. I looked at other hitches and this one seems to have the best features for the price. Shipping from etrailer was fast even with the holidays.

While the jury is out on pulling with this 5th wheel hitch, etrailer did a really nice job promptly shipping my order. The unit is exactly what I expected and installed onto my base rails quite nicely. Thanks guys.

Although I think this hitch is an excellent value, having a short bed truck with a manual slide hitch was just to much trouble for me. I replaced this hitch with an autoslide hitch after 6 months. It's more relaxing to drive knowing if I have to turn sharp the hitch will automatically give me the clearance I need.

First, the service etrailer provided was Excellent! The sales person spent at least 30 min on the phone answering my questions and helping me pick the correct product. Once I had the correct product they in [shipped] two days. I was able to install the hitch in time for my planned trip and the hitch works great. I am towing a 12k + pound fifth wheel and have had no issues with the hitch.

Bent the steel locking jaw after driving to Alaska. Hitch wouldn’t release any longer (had to persuade it with a sledge hammer after reaching my final destination). Had to upgrade to the next model (the made in USA one). Highly recommend not going cheap and buy it right the first time.

This is my first hitch. I decided to go this route after finding out the dealership wanted over 1500 to install rails hitch and plug. Install was not too aweful bad I did the install in about 4 hours of everything. I took my time so nothing would be screwed up. The install videos where awesome and very discriptive.

I have purchased two different fifth wheel trailers this year. The Curt E16 is a champ. The slider works great. I have had no trouble with it. Thanks again etrailer.com.

Great kit. Bolted together quickly! The boxes being heavy caused holes to be punched into the boxes. This caused a nut to go missing for the hitch release handle.

I ordered on a Monday and got the equipment on Wed. I started the installation Wed after noon. Finished Thur. about 11:00 am. I did all the work myself with a little help from my son on holding the U bolts. I am 75.5 years old and had no trouble with the instructions. Thanks. PS Added the Jeep picture for fun.

First time fifth wheel owners. Overall satisfied with this hitch. We have used the hitch and trailer multiple times in the last year. On one occasion the locking bar did not want to release the kingpin. It is rather loud (play in connection allows clanking noises). I had researched quite a bit before purchasing and still think the value is good.

- 16516

Excellent product. Installation wasn't to bad, did take some time but overall wasn't horrible. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but works flawlessly. I chose this hitch for two reasons. 1. It's a simple yet reliable design from a great manufacturer. 2. I needed the lower height adjustment than the Q series offered. My '06 dodge doesn't have any aftermarket suspension parts but I do run 285 70/17 tires and it does sit a little bit higher. Glad I did because the lower height adjustment is almost perfect. I highly recommend getting a lube plate to go with any fifth wheel hitch, very cheap and no mess. As far as etrailer.com goes. This is the best place I've ever ordered from. Great communication and very fast shipping. The hitch arrived days faster than expected even with the bad weather delays. You can't go wrong with this item or this company. I will definitely be ordering from here in the future and will be buying more Curt products.

The hitch is easy to put together as I have a 2016 2500hd I had to bolt it inn the very top holes to clear my box. There seems to be alot of plat in the king pin lock a clank and clunk starting and stopping. Id buy from etrailer again they are a great company this product was built for what I paid its a middle of the road hitch. I will upgrade at some point

Comments
It works I don’t care for the hitch after a year. There is to much slack in the hitch and no adjustment. Don’t like the handle you have to turn just right to disconnect. Wouldn’t buy it again matter of fact gonna switch it out this year as I don’t like it.
Myron L - 05/09/2018

Thanks for your follow up Myron. I have confirmed with my contacts at Curt and if you would like you can change out the head unit of your current system and use the # C16520
Replacement Head Unit for Curt A16 and Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 16,000 lbs
$456.78
. This head unit offers upgraded features in the coupler head, handle and adjustable height adjustability of the head to the base. If you were to switch out the heads only it would be more cost effective that getting an entire new 5th wheel hitch, and you would be able to utilize your existing underbed install kit, rails, and slider portion of your existing system. However if you would like to consider a different hitch set up, I have provided a link for your reference that includes the 5th wheel hitches that have the same capacity of your exisiting system for reference.

Hi,I am looking at this particular hitch set up Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w R16 Roller - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for 2007 Toyota Tundra - Gloss Finish Part Numbers: 16516, C16468-104I am in the process of looking at hitch options but I would like to know the exact weight of the hitch when assembled together. How much does this hitch weigh? Thanks.
-- comment by: Patrik K - 01/16/2014

Our shipping weight is 216 pounds. I called my contact over at Curt and assembled outside of the boxes, it tips the scales at a bit over 200 pounds. There are a few things that make up the extra weight over other designs. The bars that the slider system use are solid round stock, not hollow tubes, that are secure to plate steel bases. The legs are made of plate steel rather than stamped. All of these adds up to put the hitch at about 50 pounds heavier than other similar setups.

The Reese Goose Box solution could possibly work for you but it's going to require the trailer you plan to tow to have a tapered nose to allow the trailer to make tight turns without cab interference and it's going to require the trailer to have a pin box style that we have a Goose Box fit for. Typically for short bed trucks a slider hitch is only way to make tight turns since the noses of campers are pretty wide.
