Quiet, Secure Ride
The 1" thick jaw on the Companion OEM is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.
Non-Binding Latch Handle
The dual jaw on the Companion OEM is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.
The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".
To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.
To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.
Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.
The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

The shipper’s had issues with the box it wouldn’t fit on their conveyor belts the outside of the box was dinged up pretty good and the other two boxes were together but undamaged the frame took a few dings where it rattled around in the trailer to me.

It works well with my 31 foot RV I use a plastic washer on top of the pivot latch jaws. It connects well to the trailer and I’ve only had to hold the trailer brakes a few times to disconnect from it.
This is my first 5th wheel hitch - and I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. The hitch is super solid, nice positive close when connecting, and a lot of confidence while towing. It’s extremely heavy but I wanted that underneath my rig.

Definitely worth the money, this is hands down the nicest fifth wheel I’ve owned or used before. Great construction, very strong, easy to set up. B&W will definitely be the brand I’ll choose from now on and I will definitely buy from etrailer again. Great customer service, fast shipping, and the best price I could find anywhere for this hitch.
I am super happy with this hitch, its very robust! I used this in conjunction with a Gen-y executive 5th wheel pin box. I am super happy with the construction, ease of use, shipping time, installation procedure. would buy again if I had to.
Overall the B&W Companion seems to be a nice unit, but disappointing that it arrived a little beatup with chips and a nice scratch. It arrived before the truck did so the unboxing waited a couple weeks. Guess I should have unboxed right away instead of waiting until I needed to install it.
The install was fairly easy and uneventful since lifting it into the bed may have been the hardest part. It look about an hour including tie to track down various tools and supplies. With the OEM pucks in our new Ram 3500 it didn't take many tools to complete the install and since the camper isn't here I'll probably get to use some of the tools again when I find out the middle height isn't quite right for the trailer, but at least adjusting the height and position is pretty straight-forward. It's heavy enough (probably good since it will pull some weight) and takes up enough space that it may not get removed very often unless a 2nd strong back is available regualrly. Depending on how often we use the camper, maybe the hitch will only come out in the winter and go back in come spring.
We'll need to add a lock or two so the hitch doesn't wander off since it's so easy to remove that a couple strong backs could easily make off with it.

A beast! Installation was straight forward, and was able to do it by myself, although I would recommend having a second person to help you lift the base into the truck bed. Very well made, and seems easy to use.
We are full time travelers. We have been using the B&W Companion for almost six months now. I really love the swing locking arm. There is no question if the king pin is on place or not.
The only complaint I have is that the safety pin is a long reach, even with running boards and long arms.
I added a cover to protect it when we are unhitched. I also added a round, plastic king pin plate to the RV to reduce scratches. The gray paint is already coming off the top where the RV rubs.

Still great after more than a year. We are full time in our fifth-wheel, so it gets a lot of use. Rock solid in a 2021 Ram 3500, dually, 8 bed. Pulling a 2016 Montana 3611RL.
So far it has been great! Being 65yrs old I was apprehensive about trying to assemble and load the hitch with just my wife to help. I remedied that by loading everything into the bed of my truck, including my tools and assembled it in place. Not being up to speed on RAMs puck system I did not know what to expect. I assembled the hitch, torqued it to spec and it dropped into place with out further adjustments or fanfare. I pull a 34' 5th wheel and don't even know it is back there. Hitching and unhitching is a breeze with very little learning curve. That says a lot since my learning curve more resembles a U-turn. Thank you B&W for a great hitch, thank you etrailers for a great deal.

Love this hitch. Love that it’s made in the USA by an employee owned company. A heavy duty hitch which gives me confidence in pulling my fifth wheel. Etrailer is great to deal with.
I haven't had a chance to tow with it but this B&W hitch looks awesome. It looks extremely well built. From the paint ,the welds,and the fit and finish this hitch should last a long time. Made in the USA at its finest! Installed on my 14 Ram dually in about an hour and it hides under the tonneau cover. It's heavy so ask for help lifting it,but it's built to last!
Great customer service. UPS damaged one of the three boxes (the box with the base in it) and the tracking number said contact sender. I called etrailer and was put on hold for 5 minutes as they contacted UPS. The base arrived two days later. Really simple to install.

Great hitch. Very low maintenance and simple to hook up with the trailer. Ive towed my 16,000lb 4th wheel over 6,000 miles with it now. Never any issues with the hitch and have referred two friends to buy B&W Companions.
Love it. I took it out of the box, walked it over to my truck, and set into the openings in my truck bed and turned the handles and put pins in and I didn't even have to adjust it it was perfectly tight. Put the two pieces on to hold the top piece and added a little Grease and it was ready to go. I have a 2017 Ram 3500 4 X4 long bed with airbags and mounted it forward and up all the way. I'm pulling an 18000 pound fifth wheel with flex-air king pin and it rides perfectly. PERFECTLY. I'M very happy with the quality of build and ease of use.

Pulled through Tallahassee, Birmingham, Memphis, Little Rock, Shreveport, Mobile and Monticello and it is a comfortable, well-built, easy to use hitch. Etrailer also gets my recommendations regularly.
Pros: Simple to operate (once installed). I like the way the locking arm engages when you back into the kingpin. Very little (or no) chucking. Due to heavy construction, provides a bit more confidence especially towing 20K.
Cons: HEAVY (and for the Ram puck version) extra large base taking up even more truck bed. Top portion is relative easy for one person to install/remove. The bottom portion is a whole new ballgame. Definitely two man operation to install bottom. Locking levers never "engaged" in exactly the way described in the literature but after calling tech support, I'm OK with it.
Would give 5 stars if it wasn't so dang big and heavy :(

Only complaint is the overall weight and the size of the base. Ram 3500 puck system. Works flawlessly.
Was tired of the movement and clunking with my old hitch between the hich and rails and the kingpin and locking jaws.
This hitch completely does away with all the noise. The absolute best 5th wheel hitch I have even owned. A great made in America product. Thououghly impressed.

Best hitch ever
Everybody I've ever spoken to said B&W was the best and I believe it. With the help of a friend, this installation took an hour or so. I did open up one of the holes on a corner latch to accommodate a padlock in place of a locking pin. Otherwise very little adjustment was necessary on my 2019 Ram 2500. I set this one up 2"behind the axle and the second hole from the top. This setting worked out OK for my Montana HC 305RL

Overall a very nice hitch.Drops right in to factory puck system.
This was a real pleasure to install. I made one small adjustment to the one mount and in the end probably didn't need to. I set mine on center axle at the lowest setting for my rig in a RAM 3500 dually pulling a 32ft forest River Wlidcat. For what its worth the hardest part for me was installing the "leveling" spring on the head to keep it tilted back. I would recommend this to anyone with the RAM factory fifth wheel system.

I am very pleased to have purchased this hitch. I have found it to be very easy to connect to the trailer and very secure when hitched up. I even found an [online] video on how to use the trailer to lift the hitch out of the truck so I dont need to pick it up and stress my back.
This hitch is great. Easy to put in and take out - no tools. I use it with a nylon lube disk and it is absolutely quiet. I also purchased the BW lifting eye and highly recommend that.
Great experience! Called first to ensure the hitch I wanted was in stock due to shortages and delays in shipping from other companies. The associate I talked to was very helpful and ensured I was ordering the right hitch for my truck. I ordered it on a Monday morning and received two of the three boxes the following Monday. The last box arrived on Tuesday. Due to the parts being so heavy, there was some damage to the cardboard boxes but after a quick inspection, all parts were accounted for and free of damage. I installed everything on my truck by myself in about an hour. Only minor adjustments were needed to lock it down. Everything fit perfectly and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I'll try it out for the first time this weekend when I pick up my new 42' 5th wheel camper. The quality of the B&W Companion 25K is outstanding! Built rock solid. I highly recommend this hitch! Great product and even better service from etrailer.com! Only recommendation is that the instructions should include a list of required tools for the install. Would have saved me some time jumping in and out of the bed of my truck. Thanks again!
