Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.


B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.


Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.


The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".


Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.


The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.


Installation of the B&W Companion OEM Slider

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance.


To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.


B&W Companion OEM Ram Feet

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.


The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

Today we're going to take a look at the B&W Companion Dual Jaw OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, with the slider, for the Ford towing prep package and has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2011 and newer Ford Super Duty Trucks with the factory installed towing prep package and, on a custom fit part, I always like to recommend that you go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year, model of vehicle and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now, this fifth wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. It is designed to work with the factory installed fifth wheel towing prep package from Ford. Has this nice built-in slider here which will provide clearance, give you 12 inches front to back which is required for your sharp bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds. It is a nice rail-free design, allows for full access to your truck bed when it is removed from the truck. Up on the hitch head here, it has the one inch thick dual jaws which will provide a nice 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact.

That'll give you less rattle, more security than slide bar jaws. A handle right here to open the jaws, this is like cam action 00:01:02 latching handle, helps prevent binding. It's very simple to release, even on unlevel terrain. Show you, just pop the pin and clip off, that'll unlock it and then you just rotate the handle back and the jaws will open. It's ready to install the kingpin in. Now, when a kingpin slides in there, it'll push up against the back of the dual jaws which will automatically close them and rotate that handle right into position.

Then you can take your pin and clip, lock it into place. Now the hole here where the pin and clip goes is large enough that if you want extra security, you could put a padlock through there. We do sell the padlock separately on our website. The hitch head itself is a fully articulating hitch head. Ease this hook up, helps limit chucking.

Pivots front to back and the plate up here will go side to side. Now, when you do install this hitch head onto the slider, there's pivot arms that it will rest on. What's nice is at the top of those pivot arms, it has polyurethane bushings which gives you a nice, quiet, rattle-free ride that the hitch head sits on. When you install these pivot arms to your slider, there's five rows of holes on each side and there's four bolts on the pivot arms. When you go to bolt them, it gives you a range of three different hitch height settings. Now, the hitch height is critical because when you tow your fifth wheel, you want it to be as level as possible with the tow vehicle. When you do install this, it'll give you a range of 17 inches to 19 inches and that's measured from the truck bed to the top of the hitch plate right here. This is a very quick, simple installation.

When you install this, it just drops into the four receiver pucks that are built into your factory underbed rails. All you have to do to do that is go to the side here, pop the pin and clip, rotate the handle out of quarter for turn, there's two handles, two on that side. Once you do that, it rotates the tabs there and allow it to drop into those pucks. Once it drops in, just close the handles and that'll lock it into the pucks in your truck bed. Take the pin and clip, run it through the handles, clip it and it's all locked into place. Simple as that. If you notice, this is a nice gray powder coated steel which is corrosion resistant. It is made in the USA. A few specs on this. Again, the application is 2011 and newer Ford Super Duty Trucks with the factory installed towing prep package. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. Vertical tongue weight capacity is 5,000 pounds. We had mentioned your hitch height range is 17 inches to 19 inches. The travel of the slider is 12 inches front to back. The overall footprint on the slider is about 36 inches wide and the depth is about 32 and 5/16th of an inch deep. Now, I do want to demonstrate the hitch head and the slider just to show you how they operate. On the hitch head again, we'll pop the pin and clip off, open up the handle. You see the jaws open up, and this would be like the kingpin on your fifth wheel. When this slides in, now with this being attached to the fifth wheel, there will be more weight of course but it'll push in. It'll push up against the back of those jaws and you'll see with extra weight, it would push that completely closed. The jaws wrap around and you just take your pin and clip, drop it, lock it into place, locks the handle and your kingpin is all locked into the hitch head. Now, if you go to move the slider to get the extra clearance, when you're towing, this is in the locked towing position so the hitch head is closest to the tow vehicle. If you get into a campground where you got to make some sharp turns, you want to gain an extra clearance so this will give you that 12 inches. To do that, rotate that handle into the unlocked position and you'll notice here, as this moves, as you move, you can see it goes to the maneuvering position. Once it gets as far as it can, it'll automatically flip the handle down, lock it into place and then you can do your sharp turns and have the clearance. Now, when you're done and you're ready to get back on the road to tow, you want to move this closer to the cab, again, just unlock it and then the movement will slide this all the way back. You can see the handle flips down, locks it into towing position. Simple as that. Awesome hitch! The sliding features works well with my short bed 2017 F 350. I only slide it back when I make really sharp turns. The powder coat, coupled with a rubber pad preserves the hitch from rusting. It is heavy and requires a buddy to help drop it in place, but still very easy to assemble. This hitch easily tilts forward, backwards, and side to side to help with those tough camp sites. 794007

I received the new Companion hitch for my F350 in two separate boxes. The shipping company was very thorough in providing updates. Regarding the Companion hitch...I was a bit nervous purchasing online without seeing one, but very happy with fit, function and quality of product. Puck system fit perfectly and only required a very minor adjustment to one puck! The only design change I would make (and I already completed) would be to make holes for puck levers large enough for a padlock. Other than this modification, this is a great design and the entire purchase process was perfect. 612859

Well built, straight forward assembly and installation for the Ford puck system. I put an after market rubber mat I and cut 5 holes in it for the mounts in the truck bed. The plates have enough stand off to more than allow for the thickness of the mat. I do wish the frame had 4 lifting eyes build in, I can use a hoist to get it into place in the pickup bead. Are the bolts on the slider frame long enough to allow for adding a plate to them? I'd hate to mess up the finish on the hitch 639324

I haven't had any issues with this hitch. Installation was straight-forward and easy to follow the instructions. It is heavy but came in 2 parts so I was able to handle each ok. This hitch performed flawlessly for the last year. We have made multiple hook ups and releases with it and have experienced absolutely no issues. It mates with the pin with no issues. It releases very easily once the load has been removed from the plate. When using the slide to remove the jackknife danger on short bed trucks, it works great. All in all, this is a strong, durable, reliable hitch. This hitch is NOT cheap but worth every cent I paid. One fault, it is way too heavy for removal when not traveling. Even disassembly does not help to lighten the hitch to the point where it can be easily removed from the bed. 736537
