Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion OEM is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion OEM is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Installation of the B&W Companion OEM

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.

Companion OEM Base Diagram

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base. The above diagram gives an indication of where to mount the arms so that you get the height and the cab clearance that you need.

B&W Companion OEM Handles OpenB&W Companion OEM Handles Closed

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

Video Transcript for B and W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch Installation - 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Shane: Hi. I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today you're going to be taking a look at B&W's Companion 5th Wheel Hitch for OEM Prep Packages on your 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty. Adding a hitch like this to the bed of your vehicle is going to allow you to easily connect and disconnect to your 5th-wheel trailers. This hitch is going to have a 25,000-pound gross trailer weight, and a 6,250-pound vertical load limit, which is straight up and down. It's going to give us two points of articulation, front to back and side to side. So, if we're traveling on unlevel ground, maybe our truck and our trailer are moving in opposite directions, this, the head pivoting the way it does is going to allow for a much smoother ride.

It's also going to have a dual-jaw design. The dual jaw is going to be 1" thick steel, and what separates this from a single-jaw design is you're going to get more contact between your king pin and the jaw. So, you're going to get a lot less, or it's going to reduce the amount of chucking and movement you get on the inside. Now, this hitch isn't going to have the automatic locking, but I like it. I'm going to tell you why. It makes it easy to connect and disconnect. You'll notice on the head here we have an opening.

This is going to allow us to hook up if we're at a slight angle. So, if we're coming in like this, we simply open the handle. We can come in at an angle. When we back in, slide your handle over, put your locking pin in. When you get to where you're going, slide the handle open.

Then you pull away from your trailer.I will say, in my opinion, B&W goes out of their way on the construction of these products. The steel on it is very thick. The gray powder coat finish is very thick. It's really going to hold up well against rust and corrosion. When you compare this to some of the other 5th-wheel hitches out there that may only have legs that go down into the puck system, you can see this has a very nice, wide base. That being said, you can see it's not taking up a whole lot of room.

So, if we need to add anything in the back of our bed, we still have plenty of room even though our hitch is installed. Another nice feature about this hitch is it's not going to require above-bed rails, so we're not going to have rails getting in our way because it works, again, with the OEM puck system. When we want to remove it, unlike a lot of other hitches, it's fairly light for how well it's built. You simply pull the two pins. You'll have one on each side. Pull the handles and lift. We're going to have bushings on the top here. That allows our head to move much easier when we don't have that metal-on-metal contact where it's not grinding. With our risers here, or our uprights, these can be set in place two different ways. You can set them the way I have them here. You'll notice there's a slight angle on one side. The other side's a little bit more straight up. This is allowing the head to sit a little bit farther back on the truck. If we want it to sit farther or closer to the cab, we simply switch these two around, and it'll pull that head back in this direction, or back more towards the cab.It can be adjusted from 16-3/4" to 18-3/4" by simply removing the four bolts on each side and adjusting it to the height or either up or down to whatever you desire. Now, to set your hitch in place, you want to turn your handles out. We're going to line it up with our pucks, drop it into place. Then we'll close our handles. Now if you'll notice, this one's not wanting to go in place. We have adjustability here. What we'll do is we'll take needle nose pliers and we'll pull out the cotter pin. We're going to take this nut and we're going to loosen it. You'll notice there is a hole in this center bolt. That's where our cotter pin goes. We want to line up the crown, the open side of the crown, top of the nut with the hole once we get it set, and then you just reinstall your cotter pin. All four feet are adjusted the same way. Once you get them adjusted, simply install your pin. Repeat the process on the other side. You're ready to go.Then when installing your head, you'll notice that the handles are actually going to lock into place just like that. Then again, install your pins. Now our handle will need to be installed. It's pretty simple. You're going to have two bolts and two nuts. As you can see, and I'm six foot, the handle is pretty easy to reach for me. Downside is the lock that's got to go in here is a little bit of a stretch. So, if you are vertically challenged at all, that may be a little bit difficult to get that in. You may need to stand on the tire or get a stepstool. In my professional opinion, I think the B&W is probably one of the best 5th-wheel hitches. Again, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. I hope this video has helped you, whether you're still deciding or installing the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch on your 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty with the OEM Prep Package.

East to install. Used for 9 months now towing my 43ft, 24,000lbs loaded 5th Wheel, and have no complaints. 711033

First of all, I received everything a day earlier than expected. I asked the delivery guys to put it in the back of my truck; so I didn't even have to lift it up. The B&W Companion fifth wheel hitch installed so easily, and believe me I'm no mechanic by any means. I deliver RV's all over the country. The B&W Companion hitch is so easy to use and once hooked up I could hardly tell the trailer was there. Excellent hitch that I would recommend highly. 593585

2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Assembled and installed the B&W 25k hitch and it looks amazing! Haven’t towed with it yet, but I’m sure it’ll be amazing as B&W always makes great hitches! One thing I wished B&W would annotate in their assembly instructions is the torque specs of the arm bolts, but that was easy to find online. On my 2018 F-350 long bed DRW I installed the arms to the max height at 18” and forward of the axle 3”. With that set up I’ll have to hook up and see if the fiver sits level and will clear the bed rails. I do like the ease of the lock jaw handle as it opens and closes with ease and the entire assembly and disassembly is pretty easy and quick, rather than my old previous Husky 26.5k sliding hitch that was outfitted for my previous 2014 F-250 SRW 6.5’ bed. 555050

The product has arrived as advertised. Easy to assemble with great instructions. Mounted it into a 2017 F350. Only minor adjustments needed to the castle nuts to get the right tension on the locking mechanisms. Tried the 1st pull with it day with excellent results. I am pulling a 2013 Montana 38 foot 5th wheel with a GVWR of 18,500. 518495

Great instructions. Easy to install. The video tutorials on product reviews, installation instructions, etc. on etrailer.com have helped me do research and to choose the right product for my needs. This is the second B&W Companion hitch I have used to pull a 16,000lb GVWR 5th wheel trailer. The first was the companion to the turnover ball hitch, and this one is companion to the Ford OEM gooseneck prep system (puck connect). Just finished pulling our trailer home from the RV dealer. Worked great!!!! Lastly, the ordering process, shipment tracking and overall communication with etrailer staff is fantastic. 615173

Like always, easy to shop on-line, easy to check out, quick delivery, 5 star service. The hitch -- just finished minor assembly and took a test drive pulling my 43 ft 5th wheel. I love it. It's more than I needed but like the heavy duty hitch. Thanks very much. I would recommend this company and this product. David M 739656

The hitch was ordered online and featured fast shipping. I received it in 4 days in 2 boxes, both undamaged. I previously had a Pullrite 16k hitch in my previous truck. Bought a newer truck and started researching hitches a few months ago. Everyone was so positive about B&W and it is made in the USA so that sealed the deal for us. Daughter and I installed in my Ford puck system in about 45 min. Very easy to install and the operation of the hitch is simple. I liked my Pullrite just fine-experienced a slight bit of chucking. No chucking at all with this hitch. Etrailer had the best price on the hitch. 572834

Fast, free shipping. A great experience. Installed in a 2018 Ford F350 Limited crew cab dually 4x4 with the factory puck system. I first installed a Rough Country bed mat/and used a 3.25” hole saw to cut around the pucks. Looks great, hitches and unhitches easily, and feels much more solid than the superglide I had in my last truck (which was a short bed). 594043

Hitch is rock solid. Easy hook up to RV. No sway, no porpoise. Very happy with the hitch. Would recommend it for trouble free towing. 795517

  • How Much Does the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3305 Weigh
The shipping weight of the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3305 is 152 lbs so it will be just under that after you remove the packaging. Although it is still pretty hefty, the head unit part # BWRVC3006 can easily be removed off of the base unit # BWRVB3305 to help make moving the whole hitch more manageable. The head unit itself weighs in at about 70 lbs so it is almost half of the weight of the whole hitch. If you would like something that is a bit lighter then you can...

  • What is Best Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2018 Ford F-350 with Factory Fifth Wheel Rail Kit
For your 2018 Ford F-350 with the factory fifth wheel rail kit towing a 24,000 lb trailer the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3305 that you referenced is definitely your best option. It has a 25k capacity so it will easily handle the weight of your trailer but also this hitch is widely considered to be the best hitch available due to how well it's made, how tight it holds the trailer king pin which gives you a very smooth and quiet ride, it's made in the USA, and lasts a very long...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Setup For 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty With Factory Tow Prep
I recommend B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch part # BWRVK3305 for the 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty prep package. The Companion is designed to drop down into the factory puck system in the bed of your Ford. The Companion is the best option because of its durable construction. The 1" thick jaw provides 365 degree king pin contact which helps to eliminate the chucking and rattling noise you may sometimes experience with a looser king pin connection. If you need a Gooseneck ball, I recommend...

  • What Is the Best 5th Wheel Hitch Brand for a 2019 Ford F-350 DRW Long Bed
The best 5th wheel hitch manufacturer or brand on the market is B&W. They make the most durable, easy to use, and best performing 5th wheel hitch which is spoken of highly by almost all that use them. The B&W 5th wheel hitches are also all made right here in the USA which is a claim that not many other 5th wheel hitch manufactures can make and they have a lifetime warranty. The best 5th wheel hitch within the B&W brand is the Companion. The B&W Companion has a cam action handle which...

  • Best 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Factory Prep System
The very best hitch for the Ford Factory Prep Package in my opinion is the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package - 25,000 lbs # BWRVK3305. This hitch fits directly into the factory pucks for a very clean and custom fit. The base can be installed independent of the head for an easier transition in and out of your truck and the 1 inch thick dual jaws give you the best king pin contact for less jarring and chucking when towing. The cam action latching handle...

  • How to Determine if Reese Elite RE25 Will Fit with 2019 Ford F-350 with Higher Bed Side Walls
The OEM puck locations are the same for both your 2011 Ford F-450 and your 2019 Ford F-350 so the Reese Elite Series 5th wheel hitch 30143 will definitely fit in your newer pickup. Recently pickups have tended to have higher side walls for the bed so you will want to make sure that the walls are no taller than 22" as you need at least 5" of clearance for your 5th wheel trailer and your 5th wheel hitch has a max height adjustment of 17". Please note that you may need to adjust the height...

  • What is Best Fifth Wheel Hitch that Fits 2020 Ford F-350 with Factory Rail Kit
The best fifth wheel hitch for the factory rail kit of your 2020 Ford F-350 is the B&W Companion hitch # BWRVK3305 which is made here in the USA. The everyone thinks this is the best option is because of how well it's made, how easy it is to use, and how quiet and smooth the ride quality is when towing with it since the jaws of the hitch hold the king pin very tightly. I attached a review video for more info on the hitch as well.

  • Which Arm/Height Position for B and W Companion Hitch is Good Starting Point
I attached a picture that has all of the available positions you can use for varying heights with the B and W Companion hitch part # BWRVK3305. It's best to measure first to determine which height you'd need, but if not then I'd go with the medium height position with the arms fursthest from the cab for a position that will be the most likely to fit the best.

  • Comparing B&W Companion OEM and Reese Elite 5th Wheel Hitch for 2019 Ford F-350
You are definitely correct that both the B&W Companion # BWRVK3305 and the Reese Elite # RP30871 are fantastic 5th wheel hitches that will work well on your 2019 Ford F-350 but I do recommend going with the B&W Companion # BWRVK3305. The B&W Companion series is considered by many to be the best 5th wheel hitches on the market. It features a superior 1 inch thick dual jaw design that provides an excellent connection to the trailer along a quieter ride. Both the B&W and Reese hitch feature...

Congratulations on your new truck! For your 2019 Ford F-350 that is equipped with the factory prep package I highly recommend the B&W OEM Companion 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3305. • Comparing 5th Wheel Hitches for 2017 Ford F-350 with Factory Rail Kit Puck System Compatibility
The Curt A25 # C16036 is less sturdy than the other hitches you mentioned, but many people really like them. My recommendation between the Reese Elite Series Pre-Assembled 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Wiring Harness # RP30871 and the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package # BWRVK3305 is the latter. The B&W Companion Hitch has the more stable base and the dual jaw design is better at resisting the jarring and chucking you mentioned. The jaws are 1 inch thick...

  • Is a Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Needed for a 2012 Keystone Montana 3402RL on a 2019 F-350 Short Bed
I did some research on your 2012 Keystone Montana 3402RL and it looks like the trailer is equipped with a tapered nose which will allow for up to 79 degrees of turning clearance on a truck with a 6-1/2' long bed according to Keystone. The short bed on your 2019 Ford F-350 is actually a bit longer than the standard short bed (6-3/4' long) so you should be just fine with a fixed 5th wheel hitch but there is a formula I have attached for you that will allow you to determine whether or not...

  • Can a 20K 5th Wheel Hitch be Used to Tow a 20K Toy Hauler
Great question! Although a 5th wheel hitch rated for 20K can tow up to 20K we highly recommend using a 5th wheel hitch that is rated about 1K - 2K over the GVWR of your 5th wheel trailer. This gives you a safety margin and will help keep your hitch from prematurely wearing down from normal use. The only time you would be able to safely use the 20K hitch is if you didn't load your trailer up to the 20K capacity. If your toy hauler is 20K then I recommend going with either the B&W Companion...
