Video Transcript for Redline Enclosed Trailer Parts - Vents - WHMAV2-WAVT2 Review

Rate your transcript OrderClientKevin BrossRef #20641Order #TC0921328698 Today we'll reviewing part number WHMAV2-WAVT2, This is Red Line's two piece polypropylene trailer vent for three inch diameter holes. It's in a nice bright, white color. The trailer vent is going to provide a nice continuous ventilation for your enclosed trailer. To increase ventilation you could always add an extra vent. The two piece design creates a low profile vent that's attractive both inside and outside your trailer. This piece right here is a half-moon piece with a flat slotted side that's going to attach to the trailer's exterior. The slots are on one side only allowing you to position the vent for best air flow and to help prevent water from getting in.

It does feature a drain hold down here on each side that's going to allow any water that does get in the vent. And then you're going to have the round slotted interior piece that's going to install inside your trailer. You can usually trim the vent too to fit thinner walls. Everything has a UV resistant polypropylene plastic construction so it's going to stand up well to the elements and again, it's white in color. The exterior half-moon piece if we go over those measurements, it's going to give us an overall length of eight inches. It's going to give us a width of six inches and it's going to stand about an inch and a quarter tall. The piece that goes around the edge is going to be our flange.

That's going to give us a half inch measurement. You also have three mounted holes up front and then three mounting holes on this curve piece. When we take a look at the interior circular piece, the diameter at the flange. That's going to basically be at the overall width. It's going to measure four eighth of an inch. The actual vent is going to give us a diameter of two and fifteen sixteenths of an inch.

The tube depth is going to give us a measurement of an inch and a half and then our flange width is this portion here and that's going to measure a half an inch. This does require nine screws so you got three on the circular piece and six on the other piece. Those are going to be sold separately and they are required for installation. The diameter of each hole is going to be measured at three sixteenths of an inch. Also if you need some sealant, you can find that here at etrailer.com. That's going to be sold separately as well so the half-moon piece goes on the outer piece of the trailer so the exterior wall.

Then you're going to have the inaudible 00:02:32 in between with a three inch hole in there. This piece is going to go inside. So if you can imagine it, this is what it's going to look like from the inside with the wall in between the two. From the outside you're just going to see this piece. That's going to do it for today's review of part number WHMAV2-WAVT2. This is Red Line's two piece polypropylene trailer vent. .

Vent is exactly what I'd hoped for except for one minor issue; the inside vented piece tube is just a bit too long. My application is on a thin (about 1/8" thick) fiberglass trailer wall and when the inner piece is pressed up against the outer one (to seat it against the inside face of the cover), it is about 1/16" too long for the screw face to be on the same plane as the screw face of the outer piece. If I put a strip of butyl caulk under the screw holes on the inner piece, I'll have to put 2 layers under the outer piece holes to keep from deforming the outer piece when I tighten up the screws. Also, the excess caulk is not very "pretty" since my trailer side and the vent are white and the caulk is very dark. I can use a file to trim the inner tube but it should be made flush to start with. Other than that, it looks like it will be a very good vent for my use! (vent for refrigerator bay inside my cabinets) 288997

Over the past several years, I found the products offered by etrailer to be high quality and reasonably priced. This latest order was no different other than the packaging, which was sloppy at best. I ordered 3 different items....one was plastic, one was light metal and the 3rd was heavy metal. All 3 were "thrown" into a box with some loose paper packing material "set" on top. The package rattled around when I received it, which was the first indicator that someone did not pack it appropriately. It would have literally taken 10 seconds to wrap the plastic part in protective packing. The good news is that nothing was damaged, which is more reflective of UPS's gentle handling than of etrailer's packing style. If not for the poor packing, I would give this 5 stars. 459435

Finally got a break in the weather to install my Redline WHMAV2-WAVT2 Wall Vents. They were a breeze to install. The price was very competitive, and I enjoyed the rapid delivery. As I upgrade my Cargo Mate, I’ll be relying on eTrailer.com for all of the needed parts. By the way, I painted the outer covers with Rust-oleum Metallic Charcoal to match the trailer skin color. For the Rust-oleum to adhere, the polypropylene vent has to first be lightly wet sanded with 400 grit sandpaper and thoroughly rinsed. Then a couple of light coats of Krylon Fusion for plastic was applied. This gives a solid base coat for the Rust-oleum to bond to. 81812

It was a easy install. Inside just cut a 3" hole. Rivet the 3/16. Outside, used synthetic caulk to seal and also rivet. 35962

I had a moisture problem in the summer months in my Wells Cargo enclosed trailer. I was skeptical of these vents as they are not much money. I ordered two. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they install. A 3" hole and 9 screws is all you need. I put a small bead of roofing sealant along the inside of the outer cover before I screwed it down. The way the vent is made, it looks like it's difficult for rain to enter even while in motion. I put one high to the front on one side and low to the rear on the opposite side. They looked like they came with the trailer. 453793

Glad I found etrailer I had been wanting to add venting to my toy hauler for a long time. Fumes from the bikes would be strong in the living area. Not good for people and safety. Installed one vent high and one low to create a natural draft. The 3" hole is just anough for the small garage space in my toy hauler. It took about 30 minutes to install two. Also added two in my car hauler. Used some lath screws and Goop to seal exterior cover. It looks just like the factory vents. This product does what I wanted and at a reasonible price. 92106

Comments

I am still very pleased with the vents I installed last year. There is no sign of weathering at all. My car hauler has old cars or tractors in it at all times. The ventilation lets the fumes out and makes it safer when I use electric tools inside. I am looking for a similar vent that can be closed during very cold temps. Etrailer has all the good stuff, so I am power shopping today. I am sure they have something I need. Thanks Bullet Bob

Installed two of these in the side wall of a pop-up trailer converted to carry large gasoline-powered radio controlled model aircraft and a small electrical generator. The wall thick ness was over the length of the inner vent part, so I sliced off a ring from the inner vent and used a 2" pvc pipe coupler with a relief gap sliced out to enable it to fit inside the inner vent and the sliced ring. A circle of metal screen was attatched to the inside of the inner vent with hot glue, then the pipe coupling was inserted and attached with countersunk flat head screws. This assembly was fitted into the 3" hole cut in both inner and outer walls. The coupling was marked 1/4" outside the outer wall and trimmed. The sliced ring was then attached to the coupler with countersunk flat head screws. This assembly was attached to the inner wall with screws and sealed with RTV. The outer vent then had a bead of RTV applied to the inner lip, and attached to the outer wall with screws. One vent assembly was installe high facing forward and the other was installed low facing to the rear. These will serve to vent any gasoline fumes from the interior of the trailer. 124425

These vents were exactly what I needed and was looking for to install on my home built steel frame aluminum skinned motorcycle trailer to create a positive continues in and out air flow to vent summer inside heat and fuel fumes out of the trailer that does vent from the m/c gas tank. I installed a total of four vents, two up front, one on each side high near the roof facing forward to force air in when the trailer is in motion and two on each side at the lower rear facing aft (rearward) to exhaust which will create a vacuum effect as the trailer is moving forward. Installation and painting was done pretty much the same way mentioned by a previous review made by Ray H. on 5/24 . I will add this helpful hint to make your multiple vent install go quick and accurate. If you first make a installation jig out of a piece of scrap 1/2 to 3/4 inch plywood large enough to trace the outside vent screw holes onto, but first drill the 3" hole with a hole-saw then slide the inside round vent tube through the plywood then fit the outside vent onto the inside thru tube collar now you can trace exactly where you need to drill the outside vent screw holes and everything will be aligned for a correct fit when you drill through your trailer wall. Now all you do is drill and secure with screws this plywood jig temporarily onto your trailer and drill all your holes and the plywood jig will insure your hole saw doesn't wobble or elongate it's pilot hole either. Last but not least, let me say that the entire staff at E-Trailer are the best regarding fast courteous and follow up service even after your order has been processed whether you order on-line or by telephone and you will become a repeat customer like myself for all your trailer needs but never for the same thing twice unless it's for another project..(: I'm including some pic's showing the partial to the finished vent installation but sorry I did not take a picture of the plywood jig. 96475

Comments

Without thinking there is a photo of the plywood jig, its shown in pic number two where it also doubled for the inside backing for the outside vent screws to attach and give more bite for the screws to hold on to rather then just the thin wall aluminum skin, i just made one extra to use as a continuous pattern jig so the inside vent grill will fit exactly into the outside collar every time.

Its been more then a year, I believe I had bought and installed those vents during the summer of 2013, and now to report all is still good with these items like the day they were installed, of course right now the trailer is covered tent style and sitting outside in the cold of winter here in upstate, NY.

Hello Mark,There is a drain hole at the bottom of these vents to allow water to drain out if and when you are trailering in the rain, so wind driven rain when parked is not a problem.Walt

The vents installed easily with the help of a 3” hole saw. I wish the inside pieces were a little longer to help with the alignment of the outside pieces. That would depend on the distance between your inside and outside walls. I had a roof vent but these will allow good air flow keeping the trailer fro getting too hot inside. 634314

Great products and would certainly buy them again. Also the shipment and correctness of the order was perfect. My follow up orders of several accessories were also handled in a totally professional way and the products were equally high quality. 377861

I purchased this vent to install in the walls of my storage shed.....two near the top and two near the bottom....on opposing sides. I did this to reduce summer heat in the shed by creating interior air movement from bottom to the top of the shed. The vents were spray painted to blend in with the exterior color of the shed, mounted with SS screws, and SS screen material was installed in the vent hole so as to form an insect barrier. There is now a significant reduction of heat in my shed during summer months. This is the only vent I could find that I felt would be both functional and aesthetically pleasing to look at. I am very satisfied with the final product….would purchase again. 326180

The vents arrived in a timely factor. I needed these because i haul a Harley, generator, and 2 5gal. gas cans in an enclosed 10 ft trailer. There was quite a bit of a fume build up, but it appears to be greatly reduced after installation. The walls of the trailer were a little wider, so a bought 2 2"abs couplings to extend the inner piece properly. I used a wood block and hammer to seat the abs to the right level. Snug fit but worked perfect. 291328

These vents are of good quality and have held up for the year they have been on my trailer- however they do not move air as well as I thought they would. We adapted an enclosed cargo trailer to be used with live animal transport with 4 of these, and a roof vent. Its not quite enough for hot days. We will be looking into installing another larger side vent to move more air. 285402

Had purchased an enclosed trailer for band equipment. Was adding storage points and tie down points for the gear. We are having a nasty heat wave here in central Indiana. Opened the trailer and was nearly floored by the heat blast. Found these vents here at e-trailer. Ordered four units and installed them. Took about 2 hours to get the four units in. Trailer stays much cooler even in direct sunlight. 283566

  • Recommended Wall Vent for Enclosed Trailer with Gas Water Heater
  • I recommend our Redline 2-Piece Polypropylene Trailer Vent # WHMAV2-WAVT2. This wall vent will work on a trailer wall up to 2 inches thick and can be installed in any convenient location on your enclosed trailer where you have or can make a 3-inch diameter hole. This wall vent is designed to provide a constant flow of air, and is louvered on one side so you can adjust it when installing for the best airflow and to help prevent water from getting in. You can use a sealant for installation,...

  • Vent Recommendation for Storage Box on Trailer to Reduce Condensation
  • If you installed the 2-Piece Polypropylene Trailer Vent # WHMAV2-WAVT2 on your storage box with the half circle portion on the outside of it facing down it would be pretty hard for rain water to get in the box. Especially if you sealed it with a # RVIKIT100 as you installed it. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • How Should the 2-Piece Polypropylene Trailer Vent be Positioned when Installing
  • On the 2-Piece Polypropylene Trailer Vent, # WHMAV2-WAVT2, I would mount it near the top front of the trailer with the vent openings pointed down or towards the rear of the trailer. Ultimately, it does not really matter. Use some self-tapping screws like # 31071 and some sealant like # L0150811 when installing the vent.

  • Would the 2-Piece Polypropylene Trailer Vent # WHMAV2-WAVT2 fit a 2 in Thick Wall
  • Yes it will, the 2-Piece Polypropylene Trailer Vent # WHMAV2-WAVT2 that you referenced would work on a 2 inch thick wall. You would just need to cut a 3 inch diameter circle hole in that wall and attach either side of the # WHMAV2-WAVT2 and it would function just fine.

  • Side Vent for Enclosed Trailer with Interior Wood Paneling
  • You can still use butterfly vent # 371800. The wood paneling in the trailer should not be an issue because no matter what material is on the inside you would have to cut a hole for the vent. If there is a gap between the outer and inner walls of the trailer then you could bridge that gap with some small gauge sheet metal such as tubing used for clothes driers. A vent such as # WHMAV2-WAVT2 might be a better option. I have linked a video review of this vent and the butterfly vent as well. I...

  • Trailer Roof Vent Recommendation for Moving A Lot of Air Even in Rain
  • We have the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # FV801200 which has a larger fan in it that can move 920 CFM. For a cover to help prevent rain getting in we have the part # FVU1500WH which will go over the top of the roof vent when open and allow the vent lid to be open with the fan moving air at all times. For a side vent we have the part # WHMAV2-WAVT2 but it does not have a filter built into it.

  • Vent for Transporting Poultry in an Enclosed Trailer
  • I can't tell you for sure how much ventilation you need to transport your poultry because it's really out of my wheelhouse. With that being said using the Trailer Vent # WHMAV2-WAVT2 is a very viable solution. We often see vents like this installed on the side of enclosed trailer towards the front with open side facing forwards and then another of the vents towards the rear of the trailer facing backwards. The idea is to create a pass through of air flow.

  • Can 6-1/4 Diameter Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent be Installed on the Wall
  • Although I'm sure you could mount the Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent # VP-543SP vertically on your wall, when I reached out to my contact at Ventline he said that it wasn't built to function that way so it may not operate properly. You could instead install a wall vent like part # 9139, # HMAV2-AVT2, or # WHMAV2-WAVT2 to help promote airflow if you don't want to/don't have room for an electric vent on your roof.

  • Can the Polypropylene Trailer Vent Be Trimmed to Fit Thin Trailer Walls
  • If you find that the wall of your trailer is too thin then you would have to trim at least one of the pieces to allow for a secure fit but make sure it is a straight cut and not an angle cut. Otherwise it may not fit properly together.. ideally you would want a little wiggle room to adjust it as needed without leaving too much of a gap. As for the positioning I would have blades facing down so it is harder for moisture to get in.
