Jeff: Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at the Superwinch LP8500 12 volt off-road winch with the wire rope and the house fairlead has an 8,500 pound rated line pull. This off-road winch is designed to accommodate the needs of entry level 4x4 and utility customers who need power. The motor on this is a 12 volt DC 4.5 horsepower weather sealed series wound motor. It has an 8,500 pound pull rating. On the other side here, is an all steel three stage planetary gearbox. The gear ratio is 235:1. It is a nice rugged construction, which will stand up stress and torque and it quickly and quietly turns the drum.
On top of the gearbox right here, you can see this lever. This is the lever action free schooling clutch, which allows you to quickly disengage the motor and manually draw out as much winch rope as needed at any time.Right now it's in the engaged position so you can control them with your remote to operate the winch. When you want to pull out some wire rope, if you turn it 180 degrees, this lever that'll disengage it. And now you can pull out as much wire rope as you need. Once you get out as much as you need, and you want to go back to operating the winch, just rotate this lever back 180 degrees into the engaged position.
So it's very simple engaging and disengaging the clutch with this lever right here. Now the wire rope on this is a five sixteenths diameter, 94 foot long steel wire rope. It's very strong and durable. It does include this 3/8 inch size removable clevis latch hook, and a nice nylon hand saver strap. The house fairlead right here, it is a black powder coated house fairlead. This will protect the wire rope from any damage by reducing strain and rubbing. Now, this winch uses an automatic mechanical load holding brake.
Eliminates drag when you're pulling in the cable, at a reduced creep when you're letting out the cable. On top of the motor right over here is a weather sealed solenoid, reduces the possibility of damage from rain, snow, and blowing dust. And there is a connector here for your remote. It does come with this nice rubber handheld remote with a 15 foot long cord which let's you operate the winch from a nice, safe distance. You can see on this remote, there's an up and down toggle switch to power the load in or out.
And to connect your remote, it's just a three pin. You just take the notch and line it up with the pins. Once you get it lined up, push it on there. Now you're ready to go. Extend this out 15 feet, operate your winch. And then when you're done, you can just unplug it and put the dust cover back on there. This has a nice steel body with a nice black finish. It's sturdy and corrosion resistant. The steel tie bars here, and the hardware will add strength and structural rigidity to the body. It does come with the circuit breakers. Has on the back here, the color coded battery wiring, red wire and the black wire is included for installation. And it also comes with the mounting hardware right here to install it. It does come with a nice owner's guide. That'll describe how it operates.Few specs on this, the rated line pull with a single layer of wire rope around the drum is 8,500 pounds. The motor on this is a 12 volt DC motor. A line pull at zero pounds. Power draw would be 84 Amps. Line speed is 18 feet per minute. The line pull at 8,500 pounds. Your power draw would be 320 Amps. Line speed is three and a half feet per minute. The weight on this winch is about 73 pounds. And the last thing I want to do is just give you some measurements. So the overall length from this end to this end, you're going to be looking right at about 20 and 3/8 inches long. The height at the tallest part up to here is going to be right about nine and 3/4 inches tall. And the width of it, the widest point, it's going to be right about here, so you can see is right about six inches wide. But that should do it for the review on the Superwinch LP8500, 12 volt off-road winch with the wire rope, the house fairlead, and an 8500 pound rated line pull.
