Hello, neighbors. Steven here with etrailer.com. Let's talk winches, specifically the Erickson Off-Road Series Winch with a wire rope with the included roller fairlead rated at 9,500 pounds. So folks, a nice standard series truck or off-road recovery winch. It's gonna let you pull your stuck vehicle out of mud, sand, snow, water, ditch, steep inclines. Maybe you're just loading something on a trailer and using it for that application versus something like that.
It's gonna be perfect for work trucks, Jeeps, and other off-road vehicles as well. Now it is recommended for vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 4,750 pounds. Even though the winch is rated for 9,500 pounds, there's a difference between the static load and the line pull and those kind of things. So you gotta keep in mind if the vehicle's on wheels, it's a rolling weight and it can pull, you know, that kind of stuff easier than just a dead weight. Now the nice motor here is a 5.5 horsepower series-wound motor.
So it's gonna deliver powerful, fast, and safe line pulling. Now these kind of motors are more powerful, more efficient, and produce more torque than those of the permanent magnet motor makeup. You can't see here 'cause it's on the table, but there's some drain holes built into this motor housing that's gonna prevent moisture from building up and also let water escape if water for some reason gets up in there. Now all the contacts and everything electronically have been sealed, so you don't have to worry about them getting wet and moisture built on them as well. And this box is just kinda loosely set up here.
There's four tap holes up here. This would get bolted in place when you install it. All the wires have these rubberized boots, and those will go onto the nuts accordingly to the instructions where they go and then to the battery, and they would cover up that connection to keep moisture and debris and dirt and stuff off of those electronic connections as well. Now the winch does feature an automatic braking in the drum, so that's gonna control and prevent winch creep. It is an all-steel, three-stage planetary gear train box here, and that's gonna increase the drum speed when compared to the one or two-stage models.
Now the remote is both a wired and wireless. So you can simply pull the plug out, and then it has the in and out button and it even says up here wire to wireless and which one's gonna light up whenever you're using it accordingly. And then when you need to use it wired, you just simply plug that back in. It only goes one way. So there's a notch here, there we go. And then this end here gets plugged into the top of this little hidden door here up on top of the power box. So very simple to use the remote and everything, very simple location. Again, that's mounted here permanently. I just got it up here loosely. Much like the fairlead, I just got it up here loosely. So speaking of the fairlead, you got the four rollers, side to side, up and down. That's gonna prevent, you know, things getting nicked or burred on the cable itself when it's going in and out. Now this winch, just like all of 'em, have an engage or a free spool option. So again, if you need to free spool, pull the rope out or the wire out, whatever you wanna call it, you can do that with the free spool option here. And that clutch ensures fast rope payout and reduces wear on the motor by not having to use it to slowly go out. Now the cable is a 5/16-inch diameter zinc-plated wire rope. It's super strong and abrasion-resistant. It's 85 feet long, made of aircraft-grade galvanized steel cable, and it's got a 3/8-inch thick G70 steel clevis hook and this nylon hand-saver. That way if you gotta pull that out and everything on the free spool, you're not having to worry about getting your finger smashed or caught up in the metal. Now everything here has been black powder coated over the steel body and everything's corrosion-resistant. They even gave you a clear anodized finish over everything to help reduce corrosion as well. You also get the mounting hardware to mount everything. Now underneath this, if I were to pick it up and flip it, which it's 77 pounds or 72 pounds, so it's gonna be kind of difficult here. But if I we inchesre able to do that, it's gonna have a traditional 10-inch by 4 1/2-inch mounting bolt pattern, which is super common with all inches that are this size and super easy to set up. It runs on 12 volts, obviously. The line speed is six feet and 7/16 of an inch per minute. So almost seven feet per minute, not quite. The gear ratio is 216 to 1. The duty cycle, it's 5%, use for 45 seconds. Let it rest for 14.5 minutes. And like I said, you have plenty of rope here or wire, 85 feet long, 5/16 thick. As I said before, it weighs 77 pounds, and they recommend that battery size for maximum power of 850 cold cranking amps. Well folks, that's gonna wrap it up for a quick look at this 9,500-pound rated Erickson Off-Road Series Winch with the wire rope. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.
