Hi, neighbors and friends. Steven here with etrailer.com. Thanks for joining me while we take a look at our Erickson Off-Road Series winch with the wire rope and a nice roller fairlead. Now, this winch is rated at 12,000 pounds. Now, folks, I just have this kind of loosely kind of set up here on the table. Nothing's really bolted together.
So bear with me. This is just a quick demo outta the box for you. This is a nice heavy-duty series truck or off-road recovery winch. It'll help you pull your stuck vehicle outta mud, snow, water, maybe a ditch, up steep inclines, the dunes, those kind of things. It's gonna be great for trucks, Jeeps and all other off-road vehicles as well.
That being said, it is recommended for a max gross vehicle weight of 6,000 pounds. Now, they have a nice 5.5 horsepower. It's a series-wound motor. So it's gonna deliver powerful, fast and safe line pulling, and it is more powerful, more efficient and produces more torque than a permanent magnet motor that's out there. Now, you can't see it here because on the table there are some drain holes underneath the motor.
That's gonna help water and moisture escape, so you don't have moisture buildup and all that. Now, on the electronic sides of everything, they are sealed contactors, and they will transmit the power from your vehicle's battery to the winch motor. Like I said, I got this just loosely sitting here, but there's four holes here that are tapped and everything for threaded bolts, and this guy would get mounted up here on top, and the wires would mount to the winch and then to the battery as needed. They give you these nice rubber covers on the wire. So once you've made your connection, you can slide that down and keep water and everything off of those connection points as well.
Now, this whole thing is been water and weather resistant tested for the IP68 specifications. Now, the drum also has what's called automatic braking. So that's gonna help the drum control what's called winch creep, so you don't want stuff slowly pulling out on you whenever you've got tension on it. That automatic brake will automatically stop it whenever you stop the inner out movement with the remote. Now, the gear here is an all steel three stage planetary gear train that's gonna provide increased drum speed when you compare it to a one or two stage model, and as you can see me twisting this lever over here, that's gonna be your standard engage or disengage for your automatic rollout of the spool. So the free spool option. Now, going back over here to this power box on top, there's a little hidden feature here or hidden spot, I guess. So that door opens, and that's where you can plug in the remote. Now, the remote's pretty neat because it is wired, and then you've got your typical in and out switch here, but it's also gonna be charging itself while you have it plugged in and wired up with the battery and everything, and then you can use it wirelessly. So that's a pretty neat feature that I like. You don't have to have it wired up if you need to get out farther, and then, once again, this nice little door here is gonna keep everything dry and free of moisture when you're not using it. So a pretty nice little remote there. Now, talking about the wire itself on the winch, it is 85 feet long. It's made of an aircraft grade galvanized steel cable, and in its 3/8 of an inch thick in diameter. It's been zinc plated, so it's strong and abrasive resistant. Now, the hook itself is a very nice 3/8 inch G70 steel clevis hook. Very big, very stout. You even get this nylon hand saver strap included, so you can pull it out and everything a lot easier than trying to put your fingers around the metal and pull. Now, in the fairlead itself, you got heavy duty steel rollers here, and they're on all four sides. So as you probably already know, that's gonna keep your wire from gouging, you know, the sides of things and getting nicks and burrs and stuff in it because it's just gonna roll smoothly over those rollers when it goes in or out. Now, everything here has been clear coded, so it's got a nice anti corrosion anodized finish on it. You do get the mounted hardware to mount both the box, the fairlead and everything that you need to mount on here. Now, it is considered a 10 inch by 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern, which is super common on winches, super easy to set up. Now, underneath that clear coat, you have a nice black powder coat over the steel body, and that motor and everything, again, just gonna make it all corrosion resistant and everything. Now, this does run on 12 volts. The line speed's approximately 4 13/16 feet per minute. The gear ratio is 216:1, and again it has a rope of 85 feet long and 3/8 inch diameter steel cable. Now, some quick dimensions. Outside to outside, overall length, I got 21 3/4 inches long. When I did a width, and I was counting the widest part at the bottom here where the winch itself is gonna sit down in place I got 6 1/4 inches wide, and with the top box installed from the very ground here to the top, I got 10 3/4 inches tall. Now, keep in mind, if you have the fairlead bolted in place, all that, you could get a different width, kind of, if you kind of visualize that, but I wanted to give you just the body itself just so you have those measurements. Now, this winch is, again, heavy duty, and it weighs approximately 77 pounds. They do recommend a 850 cold cranking amps battery for the maximum power that you can get out of this winch. Well, folks, that's gonna wrap it up for our quick look at this heavy duty Off-Road Series winch by Erickson. I'm Steven. Thanks so much for your time. Stay safe while you're out there recovering.
