Determining Your Load Capacity

A common ratio for determining your winch load capacity is 2:1. For example, a 2,000-lb boat would require a 1,100-lb winch. There are extenuating factors, however, that will determine the appropriate winch size for your purposes.

The ratio can be stretched to 3:1 in instances when the trailer in use has high-quality rollers and is most commonly used on ramps where boats float most of the way onto the trailer.

In contrast, using a boat trailer that has wooden bunks, lacks self-alignment capabilities, and is most commonly used on ramps where the boat must be winched most of the way onto the trailer reduces the ratio to 1:1.

Note that pontoon trailers and other special designs require special consideration when determining winch capacity.

5 (3 degrees)6.67
10 (6 degrees)5.02
20 (11 degrees)3.40

Determining Your Rolling Load Capacity

drawing

To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the winch capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.

The multiplication factor shown includes a 10 percent rolling friction factor. Note: A 5 percent - or 3 degree - incline is a 1/2' rise in 10'. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.

  • 1,200 lb Electric Winch that Uses AC Power
Is this a winch something that installs on a vehicle? Or would you be plugging it into a wall outlet? What is the 1,200 lb item that is getting pulled? A rolling load? Is there an incline at all? Do you prefer a wire rope or a strap?

  • Recommended Winch to Pull Trailer Up a Driveway
Hey Phillip. The Superwinch Terra Series ATV Winch item # SW1125230 definitely has the ability to do what you're wanting it to. It has a 50' rope and 2,500 lbs line pull. You are correct the 120v winches like item # DL25514 are going to run you about twice as much especially when you throw in a remote. I can confirm that the Wireless Remote Control Kit for Superwinch 12V Electric Winches item # SW43GR does indeed work with the Superwinch item # SW1125230.

  • Can AC Powered StrongArm Electric Winch Work with Synthetic Rope or a Longer Cable
The StrongArm Electric Winch - AC Powered - 1,200 lbs # DL25514 is designed to work with a 3/16" diameter x 20' long cable. We don't have any AC powered electric winches that work with a synthetic rope but we do have some that are compatible with a longer cable. The StrongArm # DL25707, for example, has the same weight rating but it is compatible with a 3/16" diameter x 50' cable instead. Attached is a review video of the winch with the shorter cable for you to check out.

  • Availability Of a Lightweight 120 Volt Electric Winch
The Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25727 is our lightest capacity 120v winch with a 1,200lb capacity. This particular winch includes a plug in remote and pully block along with the ability to release the clutch to pull out a large quantity of cable quickly. If you are looking for one more basic the Winch # DL25514 has a simple in and out momentary switch to operate the winch.

  • Can I use An AC 110v 400w Max Plug To Run The StrongArm Electric Winch DL25514
Yes you can use the AC 110v max plug receptacle in your picture to run the StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25514. I am not sure exactly what year your F150 is (looks like maybe 2018?) but you may also have a plug in your bed that can be used to operate the winch.

  • What Type of Battery Should be Used with Superwinch LT2000 12V Utility Winch 2,000lb
To operate a DC powered winch such as # 1120210 that is not installed on a vehicle you will need a 12 volt battery with a high enough amp hour rating for the draw of the winch under load. Superwinch LT2000 Electric Utility Winch # 1120210 draws 100 amps when used at it's capacity of 2,000 lbs. With zero line pull it draws 10 amps. Batteries are expensive so a regular truck battery with a high amp hour rating would work well. I also recommend using a CTEK battery charger # CTEK56353 to...

A man cave in the attic, sounds like an interesting project that you have going on here. I would love to see pictures of the project once it is completed! This winch has a load capacity of 1,200 pounds based on a 10' pull and should be used intermittently with a maximum continuous run time of 4 minutes. • Can a DC Powered Superwinch LT2000 Winch be Run Off of AC Power Using a Converter
There are actually AC powered winches that you could use that would be a better option than converting AC to DC power. The issue is that winches draw a lot of power so most converters could not handle the draw and the ones that can are very expensive and we do not carry them. The most cost efficient AC winch is # DL25514. It is rated for 1,200 pounds and comes with wire rope and manual handle if for some reason there is no power to the outlet.
