Heavy-duty winch with 5-hp, series-wound motor lets you quickly and safely recover a stuck vehicle. Premium winch is fully sealed for complete submersion in water or mud. It includes a synthetic rope, wireless remote, and a built-in overheat sensor.
Features:
Specs:
The Seal Gen2 recovery winch has all the features of ComeUp's comparable DV series winch - a synthetic rope, hawse fairlead, overheat sensor, Cone Brake Structure, and wired remote - with some serious extras. The winch is sealed to IP68 standards for complete submersion in water or mud. It includes a wireless, waterproof remote with an integrated LED overheat indicator. The motor has a faster line speed, the die-cast aluminum rear tie bars are stronger, and the black matte powder coat finish is 3 times more corrosion resistant than the gray powder coat used for the DV series winches.
The Seal Gen2 features a 5.0-horsepower, 12-volt DC motor with 9,500 lbs of line pull. This heavy-duty, series-wound motor is more powerful and more dependable than a permanent magnet motor, and it generates more torque and dispenses heat more efficiently when operating at high speeds. The motor is completely sealed for submersion in mud or water. And it's constructed of durable, corrosion-resistant materials including the die-cast aluminum housing, steel drum, carbon steel motor tube, copper battery terminals, and carbon steel hardware.
There is a built-in sensor located inside the motor housing that monitors the motor temperature. If the motor exceeds 212 degrees, an audible alarm in the power unit sounds and the LED on the remote glows red. The LED and alarm will turn off when the motor has cooled and can be used again.
The contactor - or solenoid - transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. The 400-amp contactor - located inside the power unit - is sealed to meet IP68 specifications for water and weather resistance. The copper terminals and carbon steel hardware are corrosion resistant. The cables are color coded and printed with the AWG for easy installation.
There is a rubber-sealed plug on top of the power unit that houses the attachment port for the remote control. The plug prevents water from getting into the unit when you are not using the wired remote.
The Gen2 has a free-spool clutch with a rotating ring gear that enables you to pull out the rope by hand. This saves battery power, prevents the brake from wearing down prematurely, reduces wear on the motor, and is much faster than waiting for the drum to unroll the rope. To release the clutch for free-spooling simply pull and turn the spring-loaded handle. To reengage the clutch, lift and rotate the handle back to the position indicated by the icon on the label.
The clutch is driven by a hardened-steel, 3-stage planetary gear train. This provides more speed than traditional worm gear drives or 1- or 2-stage planetary gear trains.
The gearbox can be rotated in 90-degree increments so you can reposition the clutch handle to an easy-to-reach location. This is great when mounting foot-forward on custom and in-bumper applications or on a vehicle with a small engine where space is extremely limited.
The rustproof, die-cast aluminum gearbox is sealed to keep out moisture, and it has a black matte powder coat finish for corrosion resistance.
The automatic CBS (Cone Brake Structure) holds 100 percent of the load without unintentional rope payout (or creep). It has a cone-shaped wheel that presses against the brake clamp when there is a load on the rope. The greater the load on the rope the harder the cone-shaped wheel presses against the clamp. This pressure creates enough friction to slow and ultimately stop the drum's rotation.
The cone brake is located on the outside of the drum so the heat created from friction is kept away from the motor and the rope. This prevents potentially damaging heat buildup near the motor.
The Seal Gen2 includes a wireless remote that lets you operate the winch from up to 90' away. The remote has a built-in LED that turns green when you are powering the rope in or out, turns red to indicate an overheated motor, and turns off when the winch is inactive. It has a 2-way digital signal that transmits at 2.4 GHz to prevent in-band interference.
A wired, hand-held remote with a 17' lead and in/out rocker switch is also included so you can control your winch if you lose the wireless remote or the battery dies. It has a built-in LED that turns green when you are powering the rope in or out, turns red to indicate an overheated motor, and turns off when the winch is inactive. Simply plug the waterproof remote into the power unit when you need to use it, and disconnect it to store it away when you aren't using it.
The synthetic rope is made of 12-strand Dyneema SK75 fiber that is lightweight yet stronger than steel. This synthetic rope is safer to use than a steel rope because it generates less kinetic energy - and therefore less kickback - if a break occurs. It won't stretch - or creep - over time like steel rope can. And it's also less likely to fray and create sharp strands so it's easier to handle and easier to spool.
The rope winds around a sealed, solid steel drum. The mounting flanges are strong enough to resist bending or breaking if the rope wrap becomes uneven and excess stress is put on the drum.
A 6', woven-polyester protective sleeve at the hook end of the rope provides extra protection for your hands. A hand-saver strap is also included to use in conjunction with leather work gloves (CU881558 - sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook.
The removable red hook is made of high-strength forged steel that is heavy duty and rust resistant. It has a spring-loaded safety latch for quick fastening and removal. The hook attaches to a steel thimble on the end of the synthetic rope.
The cast aluminum hawse fairlead is designed to be used with synthetic rope. The 11/16" thick fairlead has a black powder coat finish that resists corrosion, and it installs with stainless steel hardware. The fairlead hole is rounded to reduce friction on the rope when you're pulling it in and out. This helps reduce wear on the rope and keep it strong and functional.
Note: The hawse fairlead does not mount directly to the winch - it typically attaches to tabs on the winch mounting plate (sold separately) or grille guard (sold separately). ComeUp mounting channels and most aftermarket mounts include these tabs.
The Seal Gen2 winch is constructed of strong, durable materials that perform no matter the weather conditions or terrain. The die-cast aluminum motor and gearbox housing, the contactor, and both remotes are sealed to IP68 standards. This means that the winch can be continuously submerged in 3' of water or mud and remain fully operational. The power unit is constructed of heavy-duty yet lightweight aluminum and plastic, and the hardware is made of corrosion-resistant carbon steel. The thick, steel side frame drum supports and die-cast aluminum rear tie bars help to create a strong and rigid winch body.
You will need a suitable mounting location to install the winch on the front of your vehicle. Winch mounts are built into many aftermarket bumpers and grille guards. Alternatively, you can install a universal mounting plate (sold separately) to create a mounting point for both your winch and fairlead.
When you are mounting the winch on your bumper or grille guard, use the included wiring to connect the winch to your vehicle's battery. Quick connects (CU881076 - sold separately) are available to make removing and re-installing the winch easy.
Layers of Rope | Capacity (lbs) | Total Rope on Drum (ft) |
---|---|---|
1st Layer | 9,500 | 16-11/16 |
2nd Layer | 7,655 | 38-1/8 |
3rd Layer | 6,410 | 64-1/2 |
4th Layer | 5,514 | 100 |
The line pull capacity of your winch is determined by the maximum load your winch can pull with a single layer of rope on the drum. As more layers of rope are wound onto the drum, pulling the same load requires more force, leading to a loss in winching power. With a 2nd layer of rope around the drum, your line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 14 percent. With 3 layers on the drum, the line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 23 percent, and with 4 layers on the drum it is reduced by approximately 35 percent.
Note: It is recommended that you begin any line pull with a minimum of 5 wraps and a maximum of 2 layers of rope on the drum.
To select the appropriate off-road/recovery winch for your application, determine your gross vehicle weight. The GVW is the stand-alone weight of your vehicle plus the weight of any items in and on the vehicle. Once you have determined the GVW of your vehicle, choose a winch with a capacity that is 1-1/2 times your GVW. Using that formula, this winch - with a 9,500-pound capacity - will work for vehicles with an approximate GVW of 6,333 pounds.
Percent Incline | Rolling Load Capacity (lbs) |
---|---|
Level Surface | 95,000 |
5 (3°) | 63,365 |
10 (6°) | 47,690 |
20 (11°) | 32,300 |
30 (17°) | 24,795 |
50 (26°) | 17,670 |
70 (35°) | 14,535 |
100 (45°) | 12,255 |
To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the line pull capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.
The multiplication factors shown in the chart, right, include a 10-percent rolling friction factor.
Note: A 5-percent - or 3-degree - incline is a 1/2' rise over a 10' distance. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.
Increase the pulling capacity of your winch by doubling up the rope with a pulley block (CU881082 - sold separately). Secure the pulley block to a tree saver strap (CU881091 - sold separately) with a bow shackle (CU881092 - sold separately) to provide a strong anchor for your double-line pull. Or use an 8-piece rigging kit (CU881662 - sold separately) that includes everything you need for heavy-duty recovery. Using double-line operation will approximately double your winch's pulling capacity.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the COMEUP Seal Gen2 9.5rs recovery winch. This Seal series winch has a 9,500 pound line pulling capacity. It is designed as a high-performance, self-recovery winch. It's going to feature a 5 horsepower, 12 volt series 1 motor. It does have a submersible design to it. It's actually going to feature a fully sealed transmission system with extreme duty water resistance and it's going to have an automatic full-load cone brake structure.
That's a CBS system. CBS stands for cone brake structure. That means that the brake is actually mounted outside the drum and it's going to allow for rapid heat dispersion. The braking system is going to automatically endure the full load without slipping. The greater the load on the rope, the greater the amount of braking that's going to be generated by the braking system or braking mechanism. It's also going to have a built in waterproof receiver module for the wireless remote.
That's one of the neat designs of this unit. It comes with a wireless remote, and it comes with a wired remote. For the wireless remote, the receiver's already built in. Again, it's going to be protected, waterproof design. It's going to have a 90 foot radius and then it's got the industrial grade waterproof wired remote. That's going to feature thermometric LED indicators on it, so that's going to automatically alert the user when the motor is overheating.
It's going to have a 17 foot cord, so that way you can operate the winch from a safe distance and the plug simply plugs into the port here at the top of the contactor. It allows for very quick and easy connecting and disconnecting. When the plug's not connected, it's got the nice little cap that seals up that connection point and protects the connection area. When it comes to the gearing, we're looking at a rugged and quiet 3 stage planetary gear train for maximum mechanical efficiency. The gear ratio of this winch is 159:1. It's got the ergonomic T handle, that's going to positively engage the free spool clutch through multiple, evenly spaced locking holes.
A really neat feature about that is that the clutch can be rotated to reposition the location of the T handle, which is going to help ease accessibility in various winch mounting positions. That information of how to do that can be found in the included instructions. The handle itself has 2 positions. It has the engage position, which means that it's ready for winching and it has a disengage position. You just pull up and rotate it and that's going to allow the winch to go into free spool mode so you can grab the hand saver strap, you can extend the line out to where you need it very quick and easily. The hardware that you see here on the table, all that's included as well as the wiring. These 4 pieces of hardware are going to be designed to actually mount the winch. The winch has 4 mounting slots on it and then these 2 pieces of hardware is to mount the aluminum Hawse Fairlead, that's included as well. The Hawse Fairlead is going to do a great job at protecting the synthetic rope from abrasions and anything like that, especially when you bring the line back in or extend the line out. It's going to help the synthetic rope to respool correctly around the drum. These 2 sets of hardware right here, these are going to be different mounting options for the contactor. Right now I have the contactor mounted with the braces right here that goes around the motor housing. On the feet of the contactor, there's going to be 2 holes so you can mount the contactor by taking the mounting hardware, taking it through those holes and getting it mounted to a nice, secure surface. If we flip this around, you'll see that on the backside of the contactor, we have 2 mounting slots. These slots right here so you can mount the contactor that way, that way it's not on the motor housing using this set of hardware right here. All the hardware's included. You can also see the majority of the wiring is already connected to the contactor. Everything's color-coded and labeled so that way you know exactly where your connection points are. The initial set up of the winch is very easy. The instructions are going to detail a lot of specifics out as far as recommended battery size, which usually for winching is going to be 650 CCA. CCA stands for cold cranking amps. Just again, all the wiring on the unit is labeled, color-coded that way you can easily connect everything where it needs to be. Its got the easy to access posts here on the motor housing. 1 right here on the bottom and then 2 right here on top. Then everything else is pretty explanatory. You've got your ground connection, and then the large black and large red wiring, that's going to be your battery leads. Plenty of length to work with so you can easily get these connected and then also mount the winch to where you need to. I do want to point out that a mounting plate for the winch is not included . or mounting channel, so just keep that in mind when thinking of a mounting option. A lot of vehicles have mounting locations on them . as far as maybe purchasing a separate bumper that has a mounting plate on it, or you could just purchase a mounting plate or mount it to a nice secure surface. Again, the instructions are going to help with all that information. I just wanted you to know that this does not come with a winch mounting plate. The Hawse Fairlead does not mount directly to the winch, it's designed typically to mount to a winch mounting plate. Again that's not included, but all the hardware and the wiring is included. When it comes to the construction of the winch, we're looking at aluminum die cast housings with a steel drum. The drum is going to give us a diameter of 2 1/2 inches with an overall width measurement of 8.9 inches. This does have synthetic rope that's SK-75 synthetic rope that's going to measure 3/8 of an inch thick, or in diameter. It's going to measure 100 feet long. Here on the end it's got the heavy duty hook with anchor point right here where it connects to the synthetic rope, a really nice design. Then it's got the spring loaded safety latch to prevent accidental disconnecting and it comes with that hand saver strap. The aluminum Hawse Fairlead, again, is going to do a great job of protecting the synthetic rope. When it comes to the mounting bold pattern, that's the bolt holes here on the underside. If I can flip this up for you real quick, you can kind of see those. There's going to be 4 mounting holes. 2 up front, 2 in the back. Going across this direction, those holes are separated on center by 10 inches. Front to back they're separated on center by 4 1/2 inches. The winch itself is going to weigh about 70 pounds or so, 70 1/2 pounds. The line speed with no load is going to be 62 feet per minute. The line speed with a max load of 9,500 pounds is 6.8 feet per minute with 1 layer of rope on the drum, which is 19.1 feet. This is going to have a pulling capacity of 9,500 pounds. With 4 layers of rope on the drum, which is 100 feet, it's going to have a pulling capacity of 5,514 pounds. That's going to do it for today's look at the COMEUP Seal Gen2 9.5rs recovery winch.

Review from a similar Seal Gen2 Series in Electric Winch
I have used it several times 4 wheeling and it has worked like intended. Easy to operate, and installation was simple. I have it installed on a 3rd Gen Tacoma TRD OffRoad with an aftermarket steel bumper. This winch model came without the remote control and I recently bought the add-on remote so I don't have to use the wired controller. It has got me unstuck several times in deep snow and mud, pulled my buddy out of trouble, and even used it to move a down large tree out of the way on a trail. I did have to replace the car battery as the original stock battery of the Tacoma did not have the recommended Amps to operate the winch.
One thing lacking in the instructions and installation manual is recommendations on a fuse.
Overall the winch has worked great and I have not had any issues with it.
Review from a similar Seal Gen2 Series in Electric Winch
Been using and abusing the sealed 9.5 gen2 for a year now in a 5,000lb (loaded) 4runner with dual batteries. Has dozens of pulls on it now, between uprighting rigs, pulling 1 ton box Van's out of ditches, and yanking my own rig off rocks and out of beaver ponds. Its been extremely reliable, the all metal clutch lever is very easy and ergonomic to use. Having the red/green LEDs on the controller for a temp indicator is great when you've been working it hard with repeated pulls. No complaints, and I'm pretty picky.

I could not be happier with this purchase. The price was unbeatable, and I received the winch much quicker than I anticipated considering the shipping was free. It actually wound up sitting in my garage for several weeks while I performed some other modifications to my FJ Cruiser that had to be completed prior to installing the winch.
After finally getting everything prepared to handle the addition of the winch, I got it installed this past weekend. It fits perfectly in my after-market bumper and will give me considerable peace of mind in my future off-road adventures.
Excellent service and a great product. I will definitely be looking to etrailer.com for future purchases.
