This Weigh Safe ball mount has an easy-to-use, built-in scale that measures your trailer's tongue weight every time you tow. If the scale indicates that your tongue weight is too low or too high, you can adjust it before you head out so that you can complete your journey with the peace of mind that your setup is safe.
Tongue weight (TW) refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 percent - and should not exceed 15 percent - of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-lb trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. You can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer by removing or adding cargo, or redistributing the load on the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components.
Simply put, too little tongue weight can cause trailer sway and too much tongue weight can cause the tow vehicle to perform poorly. You may have difficulty steering, gaining traction, or braking when driving a setup that has too much weight pushing down on the rear of the vehicle. Ultimately, towing with an improper tongue weight can cause you to lose control of your vehicle or cause your trailer to separate from the vehicle.
The Weigh Safe ball mount's built-in scale signals you to adjust your load before you hit the road, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience. Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer's tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with the Weigh Safe's built-in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your ball mount. Simply hook-up your trailer to the Weigh Safe ball mount just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of your trailer will push down on the hitch ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that sits on a bed of oil. When the piston drops into the oil, the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.
Adjusting and setting up the Weigh Safe ball mount to work with your specific trailer is easy. First, unlock and pull out the dual pins and remove the platform from the shank. Next, pull out the hitch ball retaining pin from the back of the platform and insert either the 2" or 2-5/16" hitch ball. A 1-7/8" hitch ball (WSB-L - sold separately) is also available. Then reinsert the retaining pin to secure the ball to the platform. Replace the platform and slide it along the shank to the desired height. Insert the dual pins and use one of the included keys to lock the pins in place.
The Weigh Safe ball mount can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your application.

For starters, the adjustable drop/rise allows me to use one hitch between my Ram 2500 and a Grand Caravan. The ease of changing out the ball makes it easy to switch trailers. I appreciate getting the most flexibility out of something. Additionally this is really well built, but not heavy. I like the scale - it's extremely helpful in knowing that I loaded my RV well, and understanding the tongue weight. I rarely need to worry about tongue weight, but it's helpful with setting up a trailer and TV.
I have a lifted truck and this hitch is the best. Depending on what I'm towing, there is a level for each. No need to remove hitch and get another one. All in one. I'm always getting compliments for my hitch. It also takes a lot of guess work out with it's scale. Perfect for my truck and the things I use it for!

I have had two products fail in close succession (actually the first was inoperative when I received it) etrailer was not able to help me (actually I found your representative very unhelpful and thus I am trying to sort this out with Weigh Safe). Depending on how I get this resolved I will complete my review.
Sierra K - 06/27/2022Delivered missing the ball mount lock pins and keys (I think Part # WS10-2) which is a large inconvenience to me since I need it this coming week to pick up my new trailer. Called and the part is being sent but not in time for my first need and use. The response to the missing part was excellent but the shipment was missing the part making it useless for the time being.
I was initially skeptical about purchasing this hitch thinking it was only another gimmick. After researching and then using it to pull my 38' toy hauler I'm convinced this is a really good hitch. I use the scale to keep my tongue weight within the 10% of my trailer weight by moving the heavier items forward or backwards. It's really a lot easier to use because I don't have to hook up chains, lift up the whole truck with the tongue jack, or guess at how tight to make the anti-sway bar(s).
After buying a new Escalade to tow my enclosed sports car trailer, I discovered that with my new vehicle's 22" wheels, that I needed a "drop hitch" so that the trailer would tow flat. Without an 8" ball-drop, the rear of the trailer would be dragging, not to mention that tongue weight would have been non-existent. This Weigh-Safe unit is the perfect solution to those problems. I am very impressed with the function and workmanship of this beautiful high-end hitch. I was so pleased that the day after receiving this unit, I installed it and towed a treasured (and very valuable) 1965 Corvette Sting Ray in the trailer over 800 miles the very next day without a worry.
I have been very happy with this hitch. Easily switch balls and heights from different trucks/trailers quickly. The scale is a nice feature and will help you position your load for the best handling tow. The security features are nice as well.
At first, it seemed to be stuck at zero. Once I got it setup, it worked perfectly. I was able to see a perfect 600# hitch weight by adjusting the position of my rock crawler on the trailer. Indispensible.
Haven't used it yet in a pulling situation. It is a very well made piece and looks more impressive in person. Larger then it looks. Fits in the receiver perfectly. It has the 10" drop and is installed on a '00 Ford Super Duty with a 4" lift and 35" tires.
I absolutely love it. I use it on my 2015 g m c 2500 with a 6-inch Lift. I also use it to pull my cargo trailer behind my 35 ft RV. Definitely recommend this product.

Ball mount is of great quality. The scale however is not sensitive below 500 # tongue weight and reads low with lighter trailers.

The craftsmanship is awesome. However, I feel the hitch fit into the receiver and the lower mount are a bit sloppy.
I haven't towed with it yet but I feel with the ratings I won't be disappointed.

Purchased about a year ago. I have a 2011 Tahoe and the hitch position is extremely high off the ground. I needed this hitch to get low enough to keep my boat closer to level. I used the bottom position. Since then I bought a new Tracker and was able to adjust it up 4 notches and not have to purchase a new hitch. It still looks like new and I firmly believe this will be the last hitch I ever have to purchase. I have received dozens of compliments on it.
I love this hitch! It is fully adjustable for use on either of my vehicles. I did make the mistake of ordering the 10" drop (thinking it would work on the most amount of different sized trucks) when I should have only ordered the 8" drop. I found out it was too long coming into a driveway when the bottom of the hitch drug across the curb. I had it shortened 2" and now no dragging. Used it for the first time with a 24' cargo trailer and could read the tongue weight on the scale. Perfect for balancing the load in the trailer and not overloading the hitch. It's a good looking hitch with excellent machining, and since it's made out of aluminum, it is not so heavy to be able to remove it easily. I would highly recommend this hitch to anyone with multiple tow vehicles.

I use this hitch on a lifted truck and the 10" drop is just about perfect for hauling utility trailers as they always seem to have the lowest couplers.

After receiving the WS10-2 drop hitch with a weight scale I noticed the scale had a 75 pound offset without weight being applied. Not only did etrailer replace , they returned the defective free of charge and since the price of the WS10-2 dropped in price do to a sale since my purchase etrailer refunded $46.00 .
Several orders previous with etrailer have been above excellent without defects but when I had one they "walked the talk" ! Thank you etrailer
Great item. I like knowing the trailer tongue weight, now I know for sure.
On light weight hauls the hitch does rattle some and not sure how to solve this.
