Video Transcript for CIPA Mirrors 7070 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 7070. This is the CIPA Clip-On Towing Mirror. The towing mirror is going to mount to your factory mirror. It's got the nice, adjustable straps that are going to come around the back side of your factory mirror, snap into the clip right here on the upper arm for a nice, secure fit. Those are adjustable. Those straps are going to give you an overall length of 14 inches.

This is a universal design, so it's designed to fit most car and truck applications. The arms and the straps are going to adjust. The arms right here are going to have two pivoting points: you're going to have one here at the back side of the housing. It's going to allow those lower arms to adjust, and then you're going to have a pivot point here at the upper arm on each side, so they will move independently of one another. Again, universal design, so these are designed to fit a variety of applications. The straps are made from a nice rubber construction, so it's not going to damage the finish on the back side of your factory mirror.

Towing mirrors are going to help increase visibility by extending your line of sight. It's going to make it a lot easier to pass, park and change lanes while towing. If we take a look at the mirror face dimensions real quick, this is going to give us a width of about four and three quarters of an inch, and a length of about seven and one quarter of an inch. The mirror face is fully adjustable, so you can have it positioned in any way that you want. It's going to rotate 360 degrees, so you can get the angle that you want, and you can tilt it as necessary. It's just simply mounted on a ball and socket mechanism back here, so it allows for very easy and simple adjustability if needed. The way that this works, all you have to do is size this up, manipulate the arms a little bit, to fit your factory-installed mirror.

It's got these clips that are going to go into the groove, or that spacing that runs around the factory mirror, so you get those in place. Simply bring the straps over the back side of your factory mirror, snap them into place. You can make adjustments if needed. I did find it easier to take the strap all the way off and make adjustments if needed. That's where you can loosen it or tighten it, and then just run that strap back through the buckle system.

Then just hook it in place on that upper arm. This can be installed on either side of your vehicle, so you can flip it over if needed. With this part number you're going to get one towing mirror, so if you need one for each side of your vehicle, then you'll need to purchase two of these part numbers. That's going to do it for our review of part number 7070. This is the CIPA Clip-On Universal Towing Mirror. .

Not for 2015 Highlander. These seem like nice mirrors and I wish I could use them but in my opinion, they do not work for a 2015 Toyota Highlander. I bought them based on an answered question that they would work. Three (or two) major problems. First the shape of the Highlander mirror is such that the thickest part is closest to the car and it gets progressively more narrow towards the outer end. That means there is nothing to keep the straps from sliding off - it might be OK for short distances. It needs some kind of keeper system. Second, the strap is only just barely long enough to engage the buckle at the fattest part of the mirror. There is not enough through the buckle to stop it from slipping out. A longer strap would work here. Third, part of the highlander mirror is very close to the edge of the housing - I can't confirm if that is really a problem and it might depend on how the individual driver adjusts the mirror. I never really got one attached well enough that I would trust driving with it. I have found no other alternative mirrors that work. 206897

I had read the mixed reviews about this mirror, took my chances and bought a pair of them. The one I placed on the driver's side was fine; the one on the passenger side, however, was magnified almost to the point of being useless (one of the reviewers from Aug 2012 mentioned this). I thought the passenger side one was defective and was about to call etrailer. But then I decided to try them on both sides, and lo and behold the one on the driver's side was normal and the one on the passenger side was over-magnified. So it would seem that the farther you get from this mirror the more magnification you get. They vibrated quite a bit at highway speed but not intolerably so. etrailer has always been great with speedy delivery with no mistakes on my orders, and I don't fault them, but this is a product I think they should consider discontinuing -- unless, of course, all clip-on mirrors also have this magnification problem. I don't have anything to compare them with. 395261

EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! Great company to work with. Product received as described and works perfectly. I installed them on my 02 Dodge Ram in five minutes flat. No problems at all!! Ordering was easy, even upgraded me from 5-7 day shipping to 3-5 day shipping FOR FREE, I have never had a company do that before. Its nice to work with a company that actually has customer service, you just don't see that very often in this day and age. Great job Etrailer.com keep up the great work. You've gained a customer for life. 4977

This mirror was absolutely useless. It is the wrong style mirror to use for towing as it zooms in on what you are looking at. Instead of being able to see what is going on around your trailer, this mirror zooms in to a 4ftx4ft area and doesn't let you see anything at all. It ended up being more of a distraction when I would look to my mirrors to make a lane change and see a zoomed in picture of the side of the road. I took it off after 400 miles into our 2000 mile trip and tossed it in the back of the car. 51439

Ok for occasional use I've had a set for less than a year, used once last year, and about three times this year. They vibrate quite a lot and don't hold on as well as I would like. The rubber straps are starting to crack. Large mirror area is a plus. If you are only using them occasionally, they are good. If you are using them more often and leaving them on the vehicle for more than a day or so (i.e. long road trips), look for something a bit more robust. 2056

Adequate attachments; however, factory mounted extended mirrors would probably be better (as they'd more likely be more secure when driving). Take caution that the elastic straps are secure, they may slip a little and be readjusted. A disadvantage for attaching to the passenger side is the hooks are needed to be secured on the bottom, which seems to contribute to that side mirror's strap slipping more-so than the driver's side. 441485

This was purchased for a Dodge 3500 pickup to extend past the sides of my camper. I was told that this was the only mirror that would work on a 3500. The mirror is held in place by two rubber straps which were rather short and required taping of the ends to keep them from popping off. They only extend to mirror about two inches. The service and delivery time From E-Trailer has always been great!! 224111

I bought these for a 2008 FJ Toyota. With it's square mirrors and oddly placed marker lights I wasn't sure how well these would work. When mounting I extended the straps almost to their limits and crisscrossed them. I wish they extended out a bit farther but they are secure and worked well. A strong four stars. 178282

The Clip-On Towing Mirror provides safety and convenience. When we are lucky enough to get away, this great invention supplies safety while towing our R-Pod. And the rest of the time the Highlander doesn't have an appendage that presents a problem in everyday driving (crowded parking places, etc.). 361314

I've been looking for mirror extensions for awhile. There are not a great many out there; however, I finally found the clip on towing mirror that extends and contracts, which is a big help. These are the perfect size for my Nissan Frontier and are soooo easy to install; the video was a bonus. 427600

It was extremely easy making the purchase after watching the video of the mirrors being installed on my exact vehicle. Shipping was fast and mirrors work exactly like they said haven't used them on the road yet. This is my fourth purchase from etrailer would definitely recommend them. 287394

Thumbs up on the tow mirror. Your website indicated the mirror was compatible with my 2015 Ram truck and it fits perfectly!!! Delivered in about 5 days with nominal shipping charge. I've made several purchases from Etrailer. Excellent service at a good price!! Thanks, Larry M 365267

They are a good idea and we used them for awhile but the connectors conflicted with adjusting the stock electric mirrors on our 2006 Lexus GX470 tow truck. I was afraid I'd burnout the mirror motors especially when you put the transmission in reverse and the mirrors move lots. 244079

Could be a little bigger. Does the job and good price. Quick to install. No instructions but you'll figure it out unless you are a moron. Loosen all the screws just a bit. Get the mirrors perfect then tighten the screws TIGHT. Lets me see back with the camper on waaay better. 309885

East to install, straps just fit my suv mirrors, stayed put, only little jiggles. Re past comment: backing up mirrors tilt down (read instr manual) can turn feature off! My experience was easy, of quality and helped my travel a lot. Shipping was quick! Thank you etrailer! 383893

first, let me say that this does fit my 2007 jeep grand Cherokee but the mirror itself is rather small and doesn't help a whole lot. Still, every little bit of added vision is far safer than none at all and I do not regret my decision to purchase a pair of these mirrors. 256794

Comments

these mirrors do not make noise while driving but I found they really do not stick out far enough to be very helpful while towing my particular trailer...still, they have held up well

Great Value!!!!! Works with signal mirrors on 2007 Expedition, simple to install and remove, large mirror area compared to other universal fit mirrors. I really like them! They do vibrate a little, but that is easy to fix once you have them adjusted to your mirrors. 478

Product received timely and in great condition. Mirror is what I was expecting. Fit is good and quick to install and take off, except the rubber straps are a bit too short. Barely could get them to stretch enough. Could have been and inch or so longer. 414882

  • Towing Mirror Recommendation for a 2006 Nissan Frontier
  • The next best Mirror I can recommend for your 2006 Nissan Frontier is the CIPA Deluxe Door Mount Mirror, item # 11650. This mirror mounts to the vehicle door at the window ledge and the door bottom and extends out 17 inches for maximum vision when towing. The only drawback to this mirror, over the # 7070 that you tried, is that it takes up more room for storage when not towing. You can get a good idea of how the mirror connects to the vehicle by looking at the video I have linked.

  • Universal Fit Trailer Towing Mirror Recommendation for a GMC Savana 1500 Van
