Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the scuff panel, interior side panel, and tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Easy connection to our 2018 Atlas. Still works perfect and is still going strong after one year of consistent use of pulling our travel trailer, utility trailer, and boat.

Installed 1 year ago. It still works. Clean install if you follow directions. Rented uhaul trailers and all wiring passed the test. Car has been into Vw for warranty work no problems from this kit. Also bought hitch b/c in 18 limited choices for a hitch in this vehicle. Read the weight limits though. Per dealer with aftermarket hitch. Good product! Plug play.
Everything is good quality hitch went in like should. However on the wiring harness I had to shave the outer tab on all male ends to be able to plug in to female plugs. Also don’t like having the plug inside trunk, then pull it out when needed. Need somewhere to run it out of car and attach permanently near hitch.

Still working as to be expected. I chose to punch a line and run the electrical line through the spare tire area and down to the receiver. I also purchased an adapter to convert to a round so that I could secure it to keep from loosely hanging. Would purchase again if needed.
Great, easy to fit kit. Running a wire to the engine is a bit of a pain but it makes the wiring safer.

If you check in the trunk of your vehicle you may be able to find a grommet that you can cut or pop out to feed the 4-Way through. Then you would be able to secure the 4-Way connector near your hitch receiver using a mounting bracket like part # 18144 and No-Drill Bracket # 18140.
