Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold plate and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11141795 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with a four pull flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years and models of the Toyota Avalon, Toyota Venza, and Toyota Camry. It's going to provide a four way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with five fold, six fold, and seven fold adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It comes with a dust cap for the four way flat connector, that way you can cover up those connection points when the plug is not being used. It's also going to feature protective connection terminals, that's designed to resist rust and corrosion. It's also going to include a tail light converter, that's this large black box right here. This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's.

The unit's designed to connect quickly and easily. You don't have to worry about cutting or splicing any wires. All you have to do is locate the connection point in your rear cargo area. You're going to have two points of connecting. You're going to have one on the passenger's side and then one on the driver's side. These plugs are custom fit.

They're going to match up perfectly with he ports on the vehicle. They push together and snap lock into place. The kit also comes with detailed installation instructions to help walk you through that process step by step. Once you have those connected, you'll need to make a good ground connection and you'll need to mount the converter box. To mount the converter box, you want to do so in a clean, out of the way location. You can do that with the included cable ties.

Your ground wire is your white wire. You want to get that grounded to a nice, clean metal surface. You can ground it with the included grounding screw. Once you have all of that done, you'll need to run your hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead's going to be the bundle of red wire right here. It's going to connect to this red wire.

It already has a butt connector attached to it. This red wire with the butt connector gets attached to the bundle of red wire, one end. The other end of the bundle gets ran to the vehicle battery. It's going to get connected into one half of the fuse holder, the half with the butt connector on there. The other half of the fuse holder gets attached to the positive post on the vehicle battery. It's going to come with a 20 amp fuse, goes directly right here in the fuse holder. It's got the fuse cap to keep that protected as well. Once your installation is complete, the four way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately. If you are in need of one, you can check out some options here at eshow.com. We do sell those. Any cable ties that you have left over, you can use to secure any excess or slack in the wiring that you may have. It's also recommenced that you use a small amount of grease on all of your electrical connections; like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pull connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. The grease packet is included. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with a four pull flat trailer connector.

Great price and speedy delivery. Box was damaged and hitch was protruding from box. No damage however.
Hitch installed in about an hour with no issues. Wiring took a couple hours as I had to run a hot wire from rear of car to battery which was a pain.
Saved about $250.00 by doing this myself.

I can't believe how easy it was to hook up. Didn't have to run the power wire because I had already supplied power and a ground system in the trunk. That was a hard job but to me, fun.
