Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 20137 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector. Now, this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 2003 to 2006 Toyota Tundra trucks. This part will give you the ability to tow trailers with the different style trailer connectors. Your vehicle must have the factory 7-way in order for this harness to fit. This'll plug right into the connectors that are on your vehicle. If you notice, the 7-way is in a nice, durable, hard plastic shelf for protection.

This does provide the 7-way connector, has a spring-loaded cap with the seal on it to keep any dirt or grime from getting into the connectors, and it also has this 4-way, which has a nice dust cover over it also to protect the terminals when you're not using it.All this is included that's shown on the table. The mounting bracket and the hardware's all included to install this to your vehicle, and a nice set of detailed instructions. But, basically, all you have to do is take your mounting bracket, slide the cords through there, bring that up. You'll notice the four holes will line up just like that, and then you'll have two at the top that you're going to attach to your vehicle, but also it's nice, you notice there's a cut-out there, and it's made specifically for the 4-way to stick right in there. You just slide your 4-way in there and that'll be at the back of your vehicle. You have access to the 7-way and then the 4-way right over here. But that should do it for the review on the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector..

Tow Ready replacement 7-way flat pin and 4-flat combo adapter harness for Toyota Tundras with a factory socket.

I replaced the 7-way trailer connector harness with this product. I own a 2005 Tundra. The original connector was damaged when I backed into a rock I didn't see. This product is superior to the stock connector, for several reasons: [a] it also includes a 4-way connector, which increases towing flexibility, [b] overall, it is more robust than the original (in my opinion), and [c] the wire harness is better integrated into the connector, which prevents water and dust intrusion. The wiring harness is shorter than the original, but the end plugs connected [new male to existing female] without issue - although the stock wire bundle holding strap positions could not be used. In fact, based on the fit, I abandoned the holding straps altogether. Contrary to one reviewer, who questioned whether the plugs would remain connected due to the stretch, the plugs snap together. As several other reviewers have mentioned, the bracket holes are misaligned slightly and are too small for the stock bolts. By drilling these holes out with a 5/16 bit, the fit is nearly perfect. The product sheet implies the connector is an add-on [as evidenced by the included self-tapping screws], not a replacement, as advertised. Regardless, this is a quality product that installs easily and quickly for the DIY customer with basic tools. In addition, it saves a bundle of money in avoiding a purchase at a dealership ! ! ! I just checked with my Toyota dealer and they wanted just over $200, and that's with a 10% discount. 88968

Here's a first, this "RARE" 1- The young man that answered the phone "TITUS T" actually knew the answers to help me, and was right!. (spoke english) 2-The part came on time as promissed and I recieved e-mail notifications the entire time as to the shipment status. 3- When the part arrived it was O.E.M. as promissed and 170.00 dollars cheaper (no kidding) than the Toyota dealership. 4- The part actually plugged right in as promissed!!! I think I found somebody that I will conduct business with again, I am not a big fan of internet purchases because of bad return policies etc. But if they get it right the first time like these guys who needs a return policy? I give them two thumbs up!! 38849

Please ensure that you check your plugs if you already have a factory 7-pin adapter. I have a 2004 4Runner and after starting the install I discovered the plugs on my vehicle (4 and 3 pin) did not match up properly with the adapter. The four pin plug worked but the 3 pin adapter was incorrect for my vehicle model. The adapter end was exactly the same as the one on my vehicle (I believe male to male connector). I called support and it looks like they make two different wiring configurations. 1 model has the 3pin male and the other model has the 3 pin female. I spoke with customer service (a nice young lady) and we were able to get the order setup for the right part (HM43374). 425575

Product over all is a nice unit. Turns out though there is 2 different options for the GX470 and I didn’t realize. Make sure you look to see which one is correct. This one wasn’t the correct one I needed, put in my order for the correct one after realizing. Only way to know is to get under and look at the plugs on your vehicle. This one has one female plug(4pin) and one male plug(3pin) so make sure you are ordering the correct one 447000

As always, e-trailer products were delivered super fast, customer service was top notch and the product itself was great quality - even better than factory part with the addition of the standard 4-way connector - so why the poor rating???? Upon eager anticipation of the install, I find my factory 3 way connector piece has a male end, while the replacement connector also has a male end - this won't work. I would suggest you remove your factory connector to double check so you don't fall victim to this as I did. I was looking to replace a 2004 4Runner Sport Edition. 41283

First, let me say, I don't usually write reviews... However, this product rocks. My used Tundra had a broken multi-plug and I was thinking about heading out to a junkyard to get a replacement as Toyota wanted +$150.00 for a new part. I found etrailer online and ordered it. Other than having to drill out the two holes in the bracket that mounts to the bottom of the bumper, the install was flawless and easy (less than 10 minutes). I have already told two friends about etrailer, and I will be shopping here again if/when I need additional trailer accessories. 44353

I received my 2003 Tundra trailer wiring pigtail in short order which is a pleasant surprise. I haven't installed it as yet because I haven't been able to get the old one off as yet. I'm scheduled for an appointment with Toyota for an oil change and they will take the old one off. But I have compared the new one to the old one and it appears to be an identicall fit. Now instead of having a seperate 4-way flat hanging down I'll have one attached to the 6 way plug. My complements on the quality and fit of this item. 125369

Solid product. Harness connectors were spot on. I replaced a factory 7 pin connector. There are two areas for improvement. First, the bracket mounting holes were slightly smaller than stock and had to be drilled out a little. Also, the spacing was off about a 1/16", but the drilling took care of that. 2nd, the harness is about 3 to 4 inches shorter than stock, so the original wire loom holding strap positions could not be used. Otherwise, great connector. The 4 pin flat connector is a great addition! 37435

I have a 2004 Toy Tundra 4.7 Quad cab with factory installed tow kit. Want to replace light harness kit as trailer lights are not functioning and man at trailer shop with a tester said no power is coming out of trailer plug on truck to boat wiring.

If your Tundra has the factory 7-Way connector then this would work. It would be worth the time to check the fuse blocks and see if any of the towing fuses are blown. Also, check the connections on the harness and make sure they are clean and clear. If fuses are blown or connectors are dirty or corroded, a new harness may not help.

The product was easy to install. One minor alteration was needed. I had to enlarge both of the mounting holes ever so little. Just a few runs with a small rat tail file did the trick. It is sturdier built than the OEM. All the pigtail wiring was flawless on the product. No more trouble shooting when I switch trailers back and forth. Also, I no longer have to use an adapter when switching between 7way and 4pole wired trailers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. 337268

Product is super but... It did NOT fit on my 2004 Sequoia without my needing to move the location from the original. After reading the other reviews, I bought it assuming that if I removed the original wire holders, it would stretch and still plug in. Mine did not. My original wires were 24 inches long, these are 12 inches. That is a big difference. The folks at e-trailer were great but in the end, I did have to relocate my plug. 98439

Connected to the vehicle wiring harness with no problems. While attaching the base unit to the vehicle, I had to attach it to the bumper which is plastic, so I used a stiffener to the bottom of the bumper. It was easier to pre-drill the stiffener to the unit on the floor for ease of mounting unit to bumper. It was mounted left of the hitch and it looks very good not to say so myself. The wiring harness for the Toyota Sequoia as it is sold as is wired incorrectly and will need to have the wires spliced together. Also, the wires should be about 3-4" longer to get them to the center of the vehicle. Online there are rewiring line diagrams, videos and info. The harness is very good for the price but it is not for the do it yourselfer if you don't know how to rewire. 385961

This product did the job in replacing the factory wiring harness. I only had to modify the mounting holes spacing slightly by drilling out the holes to accept the original screws. The supplied mounting screws were much less substantial than the originals and did not fit the nuts that held the original harness. The job took about 30 minutes. 63995

This harness fixed my problem. The OEM harness got some salt water in it and was causing my trailer lights to not work. The mounting bracket that attaches to my 05 Tundra was a little off but was easy to fix with a drill. Great product and the built in 4 way is very nice, i don't have to use the 7 Way adapter anymore. 217342

The product was good quality. Loved seeing the install video before purchasing. The only complaint I have is the wiring harness was too short for 2003 Toyota Sequoia. I could not attach the bracket back to the metal where the oem plug was. I had to drill holes into the plastic bumper and barely bypasses the hitch bar. 424538

by: Scott N.04/30/2013

I purchased this harness to replace the OEM harness that broke off. The replacement harness was well built and installed easily. I just had to oversize the bracket holes because I was using the original hardware. If the spring loaded cover had a rubber weather seal it would have got a 5 star rating. Great product! 78435

Harness was super easy to install. I did tweak the install by using better screws than what were provided for the frame. I used self tapping screws that were much larger. The only troubles I had was unplugging the part on the Truck but the new parts plugged right in. No more round adapters to use anymore. 327400

Great product! Easy to install and has worked great. My factory wiring harness had shorted out and once I got it off it was on with this one in no time. I really like having both the flat and round plugs so I don't have to worry if I don't have my adaptor for some reason. 270788

The holes on the mounting bracket that mounts on the bumper has to be drilled out. Other than that very happy with this product. Would recommend this to any one. It is equal in pries to a 7 pin to 4 pin adaptor and is far better and more versatile. Strongly recommend 116984

by: Douglas Tervooren08/31/2012

The product was exactly what I needed. The only problem I had was bolting the mount back onto the frame of my truck. The hole spacing in the mount did not match the original spacing by about .25" so I had to drill the mounting holes larger to match my bolt holes. 53660

by: Skip D.04/19/2017

Works well. One complaint would be that I wish it was a little longer for use with the socket tekonsha mount as my controller stays in the box of the trailer. It is a shared trailer and there is no point to buying two separate controllers. 369376

I purchased as replacement wiring for a 2004 sequoia truck. Although the connectors are correct, the wiring is too short. Either you need to change the location of the housing box or add 9 inches of cable. Would not recommend purchase. 128497

It was as expected... had to drill out the mounting bracket to use the same screws on my truck,,, but I had already read that was the case .. the cable is short but it worked just fine... installed in less than 10 minutes. 187519

  • First, if your 2004 Toyota Sequoia did not come with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector then replacement connector # 20137 is not going to fit. The connection points will not be present to plug it in. If no factory harness is present you will need to hardwire in a 7-Way. To hardwire in a 7-Way you will need 2 parts, 4-Way flat harness # 46365. Then to add a 7-Way you will need # ETBC7. I have included links that explain the ETBC7 installation for you. It is odd that your...

  • Using Hopkins # HM43385 or Tow Ready # 20137 Replacement 7-Way Connector on 2006 Toyota Tundra
  • There is a difference between the Tow Ready # 20137 and the Hopkins # HM43385. Each trailer connector uses two plugs that insert into the factory connections, but the 3 pin plug on each is wired DIFFERENTLY. For some unknown reason, Toyota wired the plugs differently on some vehicles. If you look at the photo I've edited for you, you can see the difference. The replacement 7-way you use will depend on how your 3-pin plug on your Tundra is wired. Use a circuit tester like # 40376, and...

  • For your 2010 Toyota Tacoma, I recommend using the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118496, and our electric brake controller installation kit, # ETBC7. These items will provide all of the wiring connectors for installation of a 4-Way and 7-Way RV connector at the back of your Tacoma. I have included the instructions and videos for the custom wiring, # 118496, and # ETBC7 kit, that should prove helpful. To install and wire the 7-Way connection, plug the 4-pole adapter coming...

  • Recommended Replacement 4-Way and 7-Way Wiring for a 2003 Toyota Tundra Without a Tow Package
  • The # 20137 would not be a fit for your 2003 Toyota Tundra, as it will only work on models with the factory tow package. In order to first replace the 4-Way plug, you will need to use a hardwire kit, like part # 119179KIT. The # 119179KIT wiring kit is a universal application, so vehicle specific instructions are not available for your Tundra. You will need to use the included circuit tester to determine which wires behind your vehicle taillights are performing which function, and...

  • 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Wiring Connector Recommendation for 2010 Toyota Sequoia
  • Sounds like your 2010 Toyota Sequoia has a standard 7-way on it and you are looking for something like the part # HM40975 which would plug in as a replacement and give you a 7-way and a 4-way. If you have a round connector like what's in the picture I attached that runs to your current connector (this is the standard connector seen on nearly all vehicles), the # HM40975 would be exactly what you need. If instead you have a flat 4-way connector on your vehicle you instead would want the...

  • Availability of a Replacement Trailer Wiring Connector for a 2003 Toyota Tundra with Tow Package
  • The Tow Ready Wiring Harness, # 20137, will connect to the factory connectors on the 2003 Toyota Tundra, but the receptacle does not fit in the factory location. This is the only replacement harness that we offer for the 2003 Toyota Tundra. I have included a link to the installation details for you.

  • Replacement Factory 7-Way Turn Signal Causing All Trailer Lights to Activate on a 2003 Sequoia
  • There is a possibility that the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # 20137, that you used to replace your factory connector could be wired incorrectly or have a short in it. The best way to determine this is to use a circuit tester, like part # 3808, and check the function of the 7-Way and 4-Way connectors without a trailer connected. This will eliminate the possibility that there is a wiring issue on the trailer causing the problem you are seeing. If the harness...

  • Troubleshooting Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way Connector # 20137 on 2003 Toyota Sequoia
  • We have seen this issue before on a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. We found that the wiring of the factory installed connector was possibly wired differently at the factory. We found that the # 20137 you have matches the specs given by Tow Ready. I have attached a photo that shows the 20137 connector and its functions. I have also linked you to a question and answer page concerning the 20137 and a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. There are a couple of ways you can fix this problem. The easiest way to fix...

  • What 7-Way And 4-Way Connector Will Replace Existing 7-Way On 2008 Toyota Tundra With Tow Package
  • For your 2008 Toyota Tundra with factory tow package you will need to use the Hopkins Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector # HM11143395. This will plug into your factory tow package wiring harness and give you a 7-way and 4-way at the rear of your vehicle. It looks just like the # 20137 picture, but has a different connector for the 2008 to 2010 Toyota Tundra. The Tow Ready Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4 Pole Trailer Connector, part # 20137, is for the 2003 to...

  • Only Right Turn/Brake Lights Work After Installing Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2003 Toyota Sequoia
  • In order for the trailer connector # 20137 to work, your 2003 Toyota Sequoia would need to have been equipped with a factory 7-Way trailer connector. If it never had a factory 7-Way, even though the connection points are there, the harness will not be fully functional. You may be able to take the vehicle to a dealer to have the missing components installed to make it fully functional. Also it is possible that some relays or fuses would need to be installed in order for the connector to...

  • 7-Way RV and 4-Way Trailer Connector for a 2006 Toyota 4Runner Using a Backup Camera and Alarm
  • The information I have shows that the Tow Ready Replacement 7-Way Flat Pin and 4-flat Combo Adapter Harness, item # 20137, is the correct 7-way and 4-way replacement for the 2006 Toyota 4Runner, that is equipped with the factory 7-Way connector. You will be able to use the 7-way and 4-way at the same time as long as your backup camera and your backup alarm do not require more amperage than the vehicle circuits can handle. If the backup camera is connected to the tail light circuit in...

  • Trailer Brakes of 23 Foot StarCraft Hybrid Travel Trailer Intermittently Lock Up
  • Since you've had the brake controller, brake magnets and wiring adapter pigtail replaced, I think it's safe to rule out each of those components. You've had somebody tow the trailer around with a different truck without the problem being recreated. Is it possible for you to tow a different trailer that's equipped with electric trailer brakes using your truck? This would effectively rule out your truck as being the problem. The fact that the problem you're experiencing is intermittent...

  • Will the Tow Ready Multi-Plug # 20137 Replace a Powered Converter on 2003 Lexus GX470
  • Tow Ready tells me that most likely the 20137 will work on your Lexus GX470. You can confirm this before purchasing by having a helper activate the various lighting functions while you test the connectors under the vehicle with a circuit tester like part # 40376. Activate the left turn signal, and test the various pins on the connector. You should locate one pin that will make the tester light up. Do the same with the right turn and the running lights. If this checks out, the 20137...

  • How to Find Brake Switch Circuit for Brake Controller Installation without Damaging Wiring
  • What you will need to do is use a circuit tester like # 3808 to probe all of the wires from the brake switch to determine which one carries 12 volts when the brakes are applied and none when released. The # 3808 is designed for probing a wire so that it's function can be determined without damaging the circuit. It basically has a sharp needle that will puncture the insulation of the wire and touch the core to test for voltage. When the tester is removed from the circuit it wouldn't...
