Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panel. You will have to remove the floor covering, rear cargo area cover, and scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Another awesome purchase, very easy to setup I was surprised. When I read I had to run a wire from the battery I almost stopped but the video online showed how easy it was and I'm glad I did it. Such a clean install, no tape, no wires hanging out, hides in the spare tire well when not using, perfect!
Hitch and wiring kit were perfect. The box they were shipped in was terrible. The hitch had busted throuhh the cardboard and there were several places where paint was knocked off. I'd suggest shipping these hitches in sturdier packaging.
This was a perfect fit for my 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE with Premium package that has the kick open hatch. You will have to take the exhaust pipes and muffler off the three rubber hangers. Don't forget to support the muffler so it doesn't hang to low and break something. The bolt on the rear passenger side is a bear. Have someone there to wiggle the hitch around or lining the bolt up to the hole is murder. I would use one of the bolts you removed from the tie down bracket for this hole because those bolts are shorter. That one bolt took 30 minutes to start threading.
The kick plate still works after installation...big plus!

Works great, did a 2000 mile road trip this summer and no issues with trailer lights. It took a little bit of time to run the wires for the install but it has worked flawlessly since installed. Only recommendation I’d make is it would be awesome if it’s possible to make the harness plug and play for the RAV4 but that may be impossible with the available rav4 factory wiring?

Hi Joseph, this is considered a plug and play. Some vehicles can't handle the additional amperage draw of trailer lights, so the wiring harness requires a power wire to the battery. The black wire with the converter is required in order to protect your vehicle wiring. But that sound like quite the road trip! What was your favorite part?
The installation was a bit more involved than the eTrailer video suggests - on the 2024 RAV4 Prime, you have to remove the plastic molding that holds the jack tools and the jack in order to bend the side molding far enough away from the vehicle so that you gain enough room to install the wiring. But the harness itself is quite elegant, so kudos on this piece!
Customer service at Etrailer is the best customer service i have ever had with any company. The tutorial videos for the harness installation is invaluable.

Way to get the job done Dan! Any upcoming adventures planned?
It's a nice product and not too difficult to install. It was a bit heavy being solo, but I could get it installed. The instructions left off a tow hook that needed to come off. I found this out after getting it partially installed.
The wiring harness required a little more of the interior trim to come out and removing the spare tire... no big deal.
The hitch does sit close to the body modeling. I want to see if there is any interference with the trailer hook-up. I am unsure how far out the trailer hitch will stick out. Just eyeing it, it seems too close to the car body... we will see.
Installing the hitch took longer than expected and I had to remove the towing hook from the car to fit the hitch. All and all, I had a positive experience.

The wiring harness was pretty easy to install in my RAV4 Hybrid.
The installation instructions snd video were poor. I had to figure it out by myself for my 2025 Toyota RAV4.
Everything went as per the instructions, except you do not have to remove taillights on a 25 RAV4
I would have gave 5 stars but the shipping box was in very bad shape, surprisingly nothing was damaged or missing. A little black spray paint to hide some minor scratches and it was good . a parts fit and worked great , very happy
So far, everything works great, and installation was relatively easy. The wiring harness was a lot harder to install than anticipated, but that was due to a misleading youtube video that etrailer had nothing to do with. I'm going to buy another one for my Jeep. I love the easy retrofit.
The item is high quality and is working well, but it took me three hours to install because the 2024 Plug-in Hybrid model has numerous differences to the standard hybrid model - creating issues with the short length of wires, mounting location and wire routing. The install video was almost worthless as I had to remove not only the side paneling but the tire and four other items that were not mentioned in the video. I would have preferred the the video also showed me where the plugs were located for the lights... which it didn't. The company, helpful service people and quality of the part are very good, but the video and paper instructions and fit for this model are poor, making it difficult to install.
The wiring harness was installed today by our technician with no difficulty and everything appears to be working well. We are well pleased with the price and the quick, free shipping. Many thanks!
Package was already opened when they put it in the box. it appears that all might be there. I don't know. It was all held together with rubber bands.
This will not work with a Rav 4 with a subwoofer. The power converter cannot be mounted in a secure location with the subwoofer. The sub interferes with the mounting location intended. You'll need to extend the harness by about 10" to drop the power converter down past the sub to find a new mounting location.
It arrived on time and 1 hour later I had it bolted up to my car, it,s a perfect fit for my 2025 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium, it’s very well made
Works good. Install was easy except for having to run a wire up front to battery. (Would have been much easier with hybrid). Used a friend's vehicle lift helped.

Again following the videos makes the installation process much easier to understand and do.
Wiring connected the the car's wiring without a problem. I did run into a few troubles though. I used this kit on a 2019 Rav4 Hybrid Limited. The wires from the left turn signal to the control box were too short of allow mounting to the the floor. I had to remove a speaker box to run the wire behind it and mount the control box. Since the wires wouldn't reach the floor I mounted the box to the wall behind the speaker, mistake, the box fit too close to the wall to allow room for the controller. I wound up mounting the controller the the lower left portion of the speaker box. After that everything went well.
Would have given 5 stars if wires had been a little longer

Love it, well in fact I never have to think about it but I use it every week to take the trailer to the dump for grass clippings. The wiring kit has never had an issue, all lights work, still just as happy!
