This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 118506 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the T1 vehicle wiring harness with a four pole flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years and models of the Kia Sorento. To ensure that this is a fti for your vehicle you can always use the vehicle fit guide located at This unit provides a four way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailers signal lights. It is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately and it comes with a dust cap for the four way flat connector.

That way you can cover up the connection points whenever the plug's not being used. The black box on the unit is the included modulate. This ensures that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailers'. The powered module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. This is designed to connect quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate the connection points behind the vehicle taillights.

One connector goes to the drivers side, the other connector goes to the passenger side and then plug in your connectors. These connectors are custom fit for the vehicles that the product's designed to fit. They're going to snap lock together for a nice tight secure fit.Once you have those plugged in, you'll need to make a ground connection. Your ground wire's your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw.

Once you have that done, you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is the short black wire coming out of the box. This gets connected to one end of the bundle of wiring with one of the included butt connectors. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery, gets another butt connector attached to it and gets connected to one half of the fuse holder. You cut this in half, connect one half to the bundle with the butt connector.

The other half gets a ring terminal attached to it and gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It does come with your 15 amp fuse, goes directly in the fuse holder and it's got the cap that goes over it to keep it safe and protected.Once you have that done, you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring with the included cable ties. It also comes with some double sided adhesive foam tape. You can peel that off, stick it to the back of the box and get this mounted a nice clean out of the way location. Once your installs complete, the four way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately. We also recommend that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pole connector itself. That grease is also going to help prevent corrosion. It's going to keep the terminals protected and that is sold separately and available at as well. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 4.2 amps per circuit. For the taillights we're looking at 7.5 amps per circuit. The unit also comes with detailed installation instructions to help walk you through the whole process step by step. That's going to do it for today's look at the T1 vehicle wiring harness with a four pole flat trailer connector.

Prroduct arrived within a week. The installation videos were a tremendous help. I installed the hitch myself and use 2 hydraulic bottle jacks to raise the hitch, which is quite heavy, into position until I was able to thread a bolt in on each end. After getting the unit suspended on 2 bolts, I was able to center the hitch side to side, install the last 2 bolts and use the jacks to raise the hitch firmly to the car frame so I could snug the boltsup. I used a short piece of 2x4 to wedge between the muffler and auto frame to give room to get a socket wrench on the last bolt to tighten it. The muffler only needed to be shoved out of the way slightly. No need to remove ot from its hangers. It would be easier to install with a helper but not difficult by myself. No need to cut bumper. Wiring was a challeng only because of difficulty of getting it threaded up the passenger side fender. You need a skinny flexible length of whatever u have to push down thru the fender till it exits below. Then tape your wire harness to it and wrestle it up to the light. I chose to route the power cable thru the car interior and that was a chore. Easier to route under car but more exposed to elements and damage. I found one wire under the dash that penetrated the firewall and was able to punch the power line thru its rubber boot seal with an awl that got the power cable into the engine compartment. The connection to the batter was easy. I recommend this hitch for the DIYer. 75443

A year ago we purchased a hitch from etrailer, and also a curt wiring harness. After the curt harness failed, and etrailer sent me another one which ultimately failed (both times the right brake signal light stuck on, and would wigwag flash against the left when the left signal was used), I decided that maybe a different brand harness would be a wiser choice, but winter came and I didn't need it as we'd missed the camping season. I recently ordered this T-One unit, and found it to be much bulkier than the curt unit, but the circuit was split differently, and it felt all around much sturdier. It works great, and I look forward to hopefully getting many years of use out of it. It will be nice being able to go camping this year as a family. So looking forward to it, and the service that etrailer has provided has been second to none as always, and if you own a Kia Sorento, I would recommend the T-One unit. 133770

Perfect fit! I just installed today and working so far. I say that because I had installed a curt harness and only lasted a month. Unfortunately I purchased it on ebay and didn't bother trying to contact them. I'm trusting you that if I have problems I can call. Thanks for quick delivery!! 40980

I had the same problem with the Curt harness. The first one was messed up the second day on the job, and now the second one is bad two months down the line, and I havent even had the trailer connected to it. Im taking the trailer across country in two weeks. Im going to junk the the Curt module, and buy this one. E-trailer has been great, they sent the replacement right away after the first, but Ive had enough, no more Curt products for me. Im not going to try for a 3rd strike. Especially when I know the problem isnt a result of the trailer. The curt modules just dont do it, and even despite the excellent service from E-trailer, I really dont want to have to keep crawling under my Sorento to remove the box every six months!

The hitch installed in about half an hour on a hydraulic lift. There is a good inch between the hitch and the muffler. The wiring took over two hours hiding all the wires. It could be done in less than an hour if i had to do it again. 16060

what model hitch do you go with? what wiring kit did you use?

-- comment by: PatS - 02/16/2015

James used the 118506 wiring kit from Tow Ready that he ordered from us. The hitch is Hidden Hitch part # 87574

Put the kit in my 2011 Kia Sorento 6 cylinder standard. very simple to do. Kit was a bit tight when re-installing the tail lights but jiggled some wires and eventually fit great. Make sure to drop the spare tire and get it out of the way. Some reviews said the wires could be longer to the right tail light. I disagree - if you route the wires above the bumper post there is plenty of wire left over on the right side. I used a stiff piece of cable to pull wires and help with routing and worked great. I also used a high lift jack and jack stands to get the car up and made the battery wire install a breeze. Overall an easy kit to install. You will need a wire crimper and stripper and some electrical tape. I used heavier zip ties too rather than the ones in the kit along the frame. All in all seems like a great kit! Thanks! 329982

Received the wiring kit and installed it myself with ZERO automotive / mechanical experience whatsoever. The directions were simple and surely sufficient for anyone with experience, but for me, the youtube videos posted here on etrailer were invaluable and made it easy. Initially, running the black wire under the car and up to the engine compartment scared me. It seemed daunting, but I found that the existing wiring and transmission lines were situated right down the chassis underneath and had some places for additional wires so I was easily able to run the wire with the existing wire and transmission lines under the Sorento. Easy as pie. add a couple zip ties for safe measure and presto. Two hours later, everything is wired and looks great. Very professional. 177112

Item arrived in 4 days. All parts fit as advertised. Hardest part of installation was routing wires through the chasis, as there are some tight spots around the tail lights. While the installation video was helpful, I think some more video under the car for routing the wires would have been helpful. Installation took about two hours because of some trial and error. Overall it was not too hard of an installation. Dealer wanted $575 to install wiring and hitch on my 2012 Sorento. By installing myself, the cost was roughly $240 for the hitch and wiring assembly. The cost difference will pay for the utility trailer I have been looking to buy. Thanks etrailer for a good experience. 111359

the wire coming out of module was not red, but black in color. The detailed instruction to remove push pin from drivers side taillight to accommodate installation of module with provided bracket was bull, because their was no bracket only a cheap piece of 2 sided tape that would not stick to anything. It was obvious after talking with a lady at e trailer that the direction were written either for a previous version of harness or as she stated could have been another manufacture. We call that n.c.p.( non complying part) in the auto industry. The harness did work after installation. Unit came from Mexico. 448062

This product was a replacement for the second Curt wiring harness I had on my 2012 Kia Sorento EX. Both of the Curt wiring harnesses just simply failed over time, even with being used hardly at all. Based on other reviews on this Tekonsha product I have high hopes that this is the last wiring harness I will need to install. The Tekonsha power module is definitely much thicker and is located in a better place in the taillight than the Curt power module. I set it all up and tested the 4 flat, everything worked great! Easy install, especially when you have done it twice before! 386108

by: Scott M.05/22/2011

This installation went mostly okay. Everything plugged into place as described. I agree with some other comments on this forum that if you follow the installation instructions exactly, there isn't enough wire to reach the passenger side lights. I ended up running mine right behind the bumper hugging the rear door seal. That made it work out just right. The real bear of the installation was running the power supply up to the battery. I had trouble with this and am not 100% satisfied that it looks professional. That one part took 70% of the time to install. 15070

Installation of hitch and full wiring harness went smoothly. No issues that others had mentioned, didn't have to drill out frame or cut away at center of bumper. Also, had plenty of wire, didn't have to splice any additional...trick was to hug the inside of bumper. Watching videos helped to simplify the installation, along with a little patience. Toughest part was to fish the wiring up through the passenger side tail light opening, bent coat hanger worked well. Would strongly recommend etrailer, price was reasonable and installation straightforward. 35562

I did not have enough wire to connect to the passenger side tail light without more disassembly of my new vehicle than I really wanted to perform. l-added jumper inline with the wiring-potential ground point. Also, in order to allow more room for the installation I made up the butt connector for the battery positive wire before mounting the harness behind the driver's side tail light. Running to the battery was fine, not professional by any means but should work. Maybe some mounts and adhesive would help to make it more professional. Works as described. 15283

Received my hitch for my 2013 Kia Sorento in about three days after placing my order. Everything was there and in good shape. The delivery company did a job on the box but the merchandize was fine. Only question is the instructions for the $72.00 wiring harness were a little shy on instructions but I think I can figure them out. Would be nice to see more info in the installation of the wiring harness. Your employee Gail was very helpful and efficient and I will give your company a 9 our of 10. Keep up the good work. 98835

I can't believe how easy etrailer makes the installation of the products. I love the videos that show you how to install the product on your vehicle. Very easy to install both the hitch and wiring. Product shipped on time. I even received an email at 1:00 am saying the product had shipped, which was only a couple hours after I ordered it. I would definitely order from this company again. This is that second hitch and wiring I have installed from terai let. The wiring and hitch went in easily with the instructions provided. Product is of exceptional quality. The only glitch I had with both installations was that I had to rent a thread chaser from the local auto parts store. I would have gladly paid a few extra dollars to have the thread chaser included with the Hidden Hith when I purchased it. 255748

This product installed perfectly and components all fit well, just as advertised. Being a novice, I followed a U-tube video or I may have had slight difficulty. All the lights check out perfectly. Supplied lengths were plenty adequate and did not require stretching it thin or working on extremely taught wires. I am impressed. 90056

I got it hooked up using the instructions provided in about 3 hours. The instructions had an error stating there is a red wire coming from the module that you are supposed to hook up to the black wire to the battery, but it is a black wire. It works well. As others have stated, remove the spare tire beforehand. 375981

The harness was simple in nature to install. The hardest part was fishing the wires behind the bumper and running the negative to the front of the truck. It took over an hour to do bc of tight spaces and trying to figure out where to run everything. I could probably cut 30 mins off if I had to do it again. 48852

- 118506

by: Danny07/06/2011

Ordered for a 2011 kia sorento, overall easy install, but a bit time consuming. Control box was a tight squeeze to fit in the space and running a power line to the battery was a task. But in the end it makes for a very solid and clean install. Probably took about an hour and a half to run all the cables. 18596

All worked well but the harness wires to the passenger tail light did not reach. I had to splice additional wire from the old harness. UHaul had to do this same extension with the harness kit they originally installed. There's nothing unique about my Sorento so I'm not sure why this happened twice. 442922

This wiring harness is very well made with all corresponding wires bundled neatly together to avoid any confusion. The installation went exactly as demonstrated on the video which was VERY helpful for those of us who are visual learners. Once installed, it operates as advertised. 94915

The wiring that runs from the drivers side to the passenger side is short. There is an alternative path, but it is difficult to reach without small hands. I would suggest either making the wiring a little longer 5 inches? or more clearly showing the alternative path. 77036

Overall I'm happy with my product. Shipping was quick the box was damaged in shipping but the product wasn't damaged. Installation was rather simple but there could have been a little better instructions on where to run the wiring to the passenger side rear taillight. 348278

Product was as advertised, and as they mention in the video, you do not have very much play went you string it over to the passenger side. Took me a few times till I got enough to hook up. Other than that, awesome product, great site and excellent customer service! 120891

Very easy to install once you figure out how to run the power to the battery. Other than that everything went well. I ended up following the brake lines from the rear to the under the hood area. Get a lot of zip ties to make sure everything stays snug. 42537

Tight fit behind the lighting assembly. Someone should note "exactly" where to route the wires as there are two choices down in the body panels. One leaves the wires too short, one is just right....... I routed wires twice.... no big deal. 35753

  • The most definitive way to determine if your 2013 Kia Sorento has the factory towing prep package is to have the dealer run the VIN number. They will be able to you how it is equipped. The trailer wiring for vehicles with the tow prep package, # 118269, is located behind the driver side rear wheel along the frame rail. I have linked instructions for you. If you have a 4 cylinder model or a model without the tow prep package use # 118506. For a trailer hitch, the most popular option...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2012 Kia Sorento V6
  • The only wiring harness for a 2012 Kia Sorento that does not require a direct connection to the battery is # 118541, but it only fits models that have the factory tow package. If the vehicle does not have the factory tow package, you will need to use Tow Ready Wiring Harness, # 118506 or CURT Wiring Harness, # C56328. With either of these harnesses, a few customers found the green wire (for the passenger side tail light) to be a little short. One customer did find an alternate route...

  • What is the Correct Trailer Wiring Harness for the 2011 Kia Sorento
  • A vehicle specific wiring harness is the best way to get the trailer lighting to work on your 2011 Kia Sorento. If your vehicle has the factory tow package wiring installed you will need the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, item # 118451, which will connect to existing connectors located along the frame on the passengers side near the rear tire. The instructions, see link, show pictures of the connectors you will need to use. If your vehicle does not have the factory tow package...

  • Class III Hitch for 2011 Kia Sorento with 4 Cylinder Engine
  • According to my contacts at Reese, the # 37042 hitch was discontinued and became obsolete in late 2009. Reese could not tell me if it would fit a 2011 Kia Sorento. I managed to locate their fit list for that hitch, and the vehicles mentioned are all full and mid sized pickups and minivans. Because it is a multiple-fit application, if it fits the vehicle you would need to drill holes in the vehicle frame to install the hitch. I cannot tell you how many folks I have heard from that...

  • How To Determine if a 2011 Kia Sorento has the Factory Towing Prep Package
  • Before purchasing you are going to want to determine if the vehicle has the factory tow package or not. The definitive way to determine this is to contact a Kia dealer and have them run the VIN and they will be able to tell you how the vehicle is equipped. Then you can order the correct harness. With factory tow package use # 118269 Without factory tow package use # 118506 I have included instruction links for the wiring harnesses for you.

  • Will the Spare Tire on a 2012 Kia Sorento be Blocked by Installing Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 75684
  • With Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75684 installed, the spare tire can still be removed and replaced. Instead of it just dropping straight down, you would need to angle it down some and forward towards the front of the vehicle to remove/replace it. I have included links to the instructions and a video showing the installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing, I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying...

  • Which Vehicle Wiring Harness Will Work On A 2011 Kia Sorento
  • For the 2011 Kia Sorento SX models the LED tail lights is one major reason why the Tow Ready Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit, part # 119176KIT, is needed. The problem is that LED lights use much less power than incandescent bulbs. Because less power is required, lower rated wiring and other components can be used on the vehicle. When a trailer is connected, it requires extra power draw and the wiring in the SX model is not sufficient to handle the...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Options for a 2011 Kia Sorento
  • There are trailer wiring harness for 3 different configurations of the 2011 Kia Sorento, V6 models that do not have the tow package, V6 models that do have the tow package, and 4 cylinder models. If you have a V6, you could have a tow package. What you can do is have a dealership run the VIN number of the vehicle and they can tell you what options it has. Some vehicles will have the wiring for the tow package present to accept the wiring harness, but it will not be functional. This...

  • What is the Correct Trailer Wiring harness for a 2012 Kia Sorento 4 Cylinder

  • Best Trailer Wring Options for 2011 Kia Sorento EX V6 AWD
  • The trailer wiring harness you need will depend on whether or not your Sorento is equipped with the factory tow package. If you have the tow package, I'd recommend part # 118269. Without the tow package, use part # 118506. Generally speaking, the Tow Ready taillight converters have higher amperage ratings than their Curt counterparts, like the C56328. Curt make a fine wiring harness, but if I have the option, I'll choose the one with the higher rating. I've linked you to some installation...

  • Trailer Brake and Turn Signals Do Not Work when Running Lights are On, 2011 Kia Sorento
  • It sounds like there is a ground issue that is causing the malfunction. First, you can do some tests on the vehicle side to see if it is the problem or if it is on the trailer. You will need a circuit tester like # 3808 if needed to test the wiring. Disconnect the trailer from the vehicle and use the circuit tester to test the wires that go into the converter from the vehicle. Using the circuit tester, have someone run through the brake, turn, and running light functions while you test...

  • You will not have to lower the exhaust or perform any trimming when installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75684, on your 2011 Kia Sorento. I have included a link to the instructions below. There is a drawing in the upper left corner that shows the hitches position after it is installed. • Recommended Hitch and Trailer Wiring Harness for 2013 Kia Sorento SX
  • According to my research, the 6 cylinder models of the Sorento like your SX can tow up to 3500 lbs. I would recommend the Curt Class III hitch, part # C13073. If your Sorento was equipped with the factory tow package, you would use the # 118269 you referenced. If your vehicle does not have the factory tow package, then the connectors you located under the vehicle are most likely not active, and you would need to use # 118506, which would plug inline with the factory wiring harness feeding...

If you plan on doing some towing, the recommended ball mount is # 2923 and you can use ball # 19260 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or the # 19247 (2 inch diameter). First, if the vehicle does not have a 4-Way trailer connector, you will need to add one using # 118506 if you have a 4 cylinder or other model WITHOUT the towing prep package. • The wiring harness for your 2011 Kia Sorento is the Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118506, and it includes the power wire you've asked about. It is necessary to install the power wire because the converter requires power directly from the battery in order to distribute that power to the harness and protect your vehicles sensitive wiring. • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2012 Kia Sorento

  • Tips for Routing Trailer Wiring Harness Power Wire to Battery on a 2011 Kia SOrento

Routing the wire on any vehicle is a matter of preference. There are basically 3 ways to do it: under the vehicle exposed, under the vehicle not exposed or partially exposed, and through the vehicle interior. I have included a link to the right to a help article I wrote with tips on routing the power wire.

  • Side Marker Lights and Tail Lights Stopped Working on 2004 Aliner Sport Trailer
  • It sounds to me like you may actually have a ground problem. Often if a trailer has a weak or marginal ground connection it will be able to pass enough current for the lower current draw lights, such as the turn signals, but not enough for the side marker and tail lights which are always on. To begin the troubleshooting I would start with the easiest step first and check the connectors on both your 2012 Kia Sorento LX and the trailer. Make sure that they are clean and free of dirt and corrosion...
