Video Transcript for Review of Tekonsha Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 18252

Today we're going to take a look at the 4-Way Hardwire Kit with the Circuit Tester. Now, this kit will allow you to install a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It does connect very quickly and easily using the self-stripping, waterproof quick connectors. It does include the circuit tester, and that's for testing the functions on your vehicle. The wiring harness here has the four different wires. Actually, what'll help is, on the wire itself real small, if you look, it will tell you what that function's for. It'll have the tail lights, stop and turn, and ground functions printed on the wires.

But you do want to make sure that when you go to install this onto your vehicle, use your circuit tester, because you don't always want to match color to color. You want to test the function of the wire on your vehicle and match it to the function of the wire on the harness. The ground wire, the white wire on this, will go the full length of the harness. The wires on these are all 18-gauge bonded wires. The harness itself is 72 inches long. Again, it comes with the harness, the circuit tester, and then the four quick-splice connectors. The maximum amperage for this is: stop and turn light circuit, 7.5 amps per circuit; tail lights, 7.5 amps per circuit.

That should do it for the review on the 4-Way Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester.

Product arrived early. Product was packed very well. Product installed EXACTLY as the installation video decsribed. I'm very happy with my decision to do business with this company.

1990 Dodge Van

Took me almost a year to actually get to installing this on the van, but wanting to use the trailer was a strong motivator. Its just a basic wiring set with quick connect clips in a bag. The fact that I was installing this on an extended camper version of the van this was designed for complicated the install, but "fortunately" there were enough rust holes that I could drill where I need to drill. Wires were long enough for the job (exactly the length needed) and the clips came pre-filled with silicone grease. Nice. Came with no instructions, but the on-line installation video is *excellent* and guided me thru the entire process. Overall, it was a convenient way to buy and install a wiring harness on my older van. Only two minor complaints:
* Did NOT include a weather-proof cap for the plug, which hangs outside by the hitch. I took the one included with the wiring kit for my Suburu (from etrailer) since that plug is stored inside the vehicle.
* The 12v circuit tester did NOT work. Fortunately I had my own tester.

The box of contents I received was partially damaged and the boxes inside not properly secured and wrapped and damaged inside. There was a hole in the box and am missing one elecrical connector. Everything else was O.K.

Thank you guys so much for making food on this order .. despite the fact that we had a bunch go sideways / misunderstandings and delays with this order . You all made good on each and every word spoken and every customer
Service person I felt with was knowledgeable and abreast of the order at every step .. it very pleasant to deal with a company that was organized and I did not have to recount the situation to each customer serves person who answered .. this product while I’ve yet to install it appears to be excellent quality and my Truck is excited !
Thank you again

First thing I noticed were the online videos that can be saved to a file. nice! also noticed the instructions for assembly of the tow bar was small and difficult to read, (my mechanic was crying throughout the installation) There were no instructions on the wiring kit installation, even a photo of the wire to wire color placement would have helped, but my mechanic went on line and got the photo from an outside source - thus the 4 stars, not five. - other than that it worked out very well, the products are solid, well made, and superbly engineered. everything was inside! thanks !

This was a pain in the rear end. Wires were not labeled and the tester was useless. Had to go to online for some instructions (none included with kit). Took a long time to get it wired to the car.

I like the product. I found it odd that the package did not include directions. I was able to print them from Etrailer website. Minus one star because the direction should of been included.

Worked great. Simple instructions. Will buy from etrailer again.

1984 Jeep CJ-7

I got a 4-wire harness to connect my jeep to a utility trailer. The harness worked perfectly.
The connectors were good--surprisingly, they were stuffed with noncorroding gel so that the jeep's wires are protected. There were no specific instructions for the hookup, but simply removing the taillight lenses showed which color wires to splice.
The supplied tester failed to function, but that wasn't a problem at all--I didn't really wish to poke additional holes into the wires anyway.
Took a half hour to complete.

by:
1995 Chevrolet Camaro

Easy to wire in with the etrailer video. Good quality wires and connector.

by:

The instructions for this product didn’t match the vehicle I had. When I called to asked questions I waited for 45 min and hung up. I figure out how to make it work but, what have been nice to have instruction that matched my vehicle.

by:

Product as described and very easy to install. In my case it didn't work, because the original wiring on my truck apparently is bad and I couldn't figure out what was faulty, so I ended up getting another harness that plugs into existing tail light harness, which worked great.

by:

I needed a hitch and wiring harness to pull a small trailer for hauling lumber. The harness was easy to install and has worked without any problems over the past year.

by:
1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Only thing that needed to be changed was wire connectors. Type included with the plug are easy to install (no insulation stripping, just clamp) but are not reliable. Throw those away and use standard crimp butt splices. Plenty of wire included, so I cut to more convenient length, spliced, and taped 8 inches on both side of splice. Tester is a nice touch, save in your tool box after installation.

by:
2006 Ford Focus

The installation documentation, along with the video aid, was very helpful and easy to understand. It helped a lot, and made the installation fast and easy. I like it a lot, and I appreciate the support I got on a minor issue which was easily and quickly taken care of.

2005 Ford Focus

I installed this wiring kit along with a hitch. This was pretty easy to install, and the directions were easy to follow. The hardest part was pulling up the the liner in the hatch back area to get to the wires.

I purchased the Draw-Tite Receiver and wiring kit. All parts were easily identified. Good printed instructions. Everything assembled easily and fit perfectly. It took about 1.5 hrs to complete. It will be used to tow a small utility trailer. Highly recommend this equipment and etrailer.com. Thanks.

  • Trailer Lights Go Out When I Apply Brakes on Tow Vehicle 2002 Toyota Tundra
It sounds like there is a bad ground connection somewhere on the trailer because your lights are working when they are not put under a load. Whenever your tail lights are on and then you apply the brakes, the system is under max amp load, and with a bad ground the lights cannot support all the amps. I would start by checking the ground connections of the tail lights on the trailer to make sure there is a good connection to a clean metal surface. You will also want to inspect the wires to...

I would not recommend to replace any of the relays on the 2009 Saturn Sky. If you are having a wiring problem and the relay is activating, it is doing that to protect your vehicles wiring system. You do not want to change the relay and allow more current to get to your wiring system, which could cause major damage. The relay is doing what it was designed for. It sounds like it is a ground issue with the wiring on your vehicle. You will want to make sure that the white (ground) wire is...
