Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2018 Nissan Kicks

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2018 Nissan Kicks, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness. Just because the Nissan Kicks is kind of a smaller vehicle doesn't mean you can't go out and have some fun with it and pull around some smaller, light duty trailers. Whether it be a kayak trailer or something like that, or even like our customer here today that have a taco stand and they plan on pulling out around from site to site. And if you're gonna be pulling a trailer, you are gonna want the lights to work. That way, people know what's going on and you'll be safe and legal.

And that's exactly what the wiring kit is gonna accomplish. So the wiring, it is going to live outside of the vehicle. And what I would suggest doing is setting it up similar to how we have it here today on our vehicle. It doesn't come with brackets or anything, but you can grab them here at etrailer. And the setup that we use is a no-drill short bracket and this 4-way flat connector.

And I think it looks really clean and it's very accessible. With that said, a 4-way flat type connector is extremely common and it's gonna work with a lot of different trailers. It's gonna provide us with all those necessary functions that we need. Our tail lights, our brake lights, and our turn signals. Other than that, at the end of the day, if you need trailer wiring, you really can't go wrong with the setup.

Tekonsha makes really good wiring products. I actually have one on my own personal vehicle, so I've definitely got faith in them. Now as far as the installation goes, really not too bad. I've done quite a few smaller vehicles. And to be honest, some of them can be a real pain.

And that really was not the case with the Nissan Kicks. Little time consuming, sure. But everything else was easy to come apart and easy to figure out. You got a lot of room to work. So really shouldn't give you a whole lot of issues. Speaking of which, let's go ahead, pull into the garage, and put it on together now. To begin our install, we're gonna be here at the back of our Kicks and we're gonna need to remove our tail lights. So first thing we're gonna do is open up our rear hatch. And if you look here, we're gonna have two 10 millimeter bolts, so we'll grab our socket and pull those out. And what we should be able to do is grab our tail light. So it's not gonna pull straight back towards you, and that's because behind here, there's an alignment pin that goes in that way. So what you can do is grab a trim panel tool like this, and just pry out on the light. And that'll release those pins there. So that's what was kinda hanging us up. With that said, we need to disconnect our tail light. So it's that connector right there, push down on it, and while we're doing that, we'll pull out. We can set our tail light to the side and repeat the same thing to get the other one. Now we can do is get our wiring up into the driver's side tail light pocket. And the only thing we're gonna pull up there is the T connector with the yellow and brown wire. So what I've done is just used a fish wire. That's just a piece of tubing, but you can use a coat hanger or something like that, whatever you have laying around the house, drop it down through the tail light pocket till it comes out the bottom. Tape that yellow and brown T-connector to it. And we're simply just going to feed it up into the tail light pocket. There we can get it plugged in. This is a really straightforward, one end of that T- connector. It's gonna get plugged into that factory wiring. Then the other end of the T-connector is just gonna get plugged right into the back of our tail light. So when that's plugged in, now we can simply reinstall the light the opposite way that we removed it. So now underneath the vehicle here on the driver's side, this is where everything dropped down. And what I went ahead and done was mount up our box here. So there's actually a factory hole there on the body of our vehicle. And I just used a couple of zip ties to secure it to it. So it's nice and steady and what we can do now is take the white wire. It's gonna have the pre-attached ring terminal to it. This is going to need to get grounded to the chassis of our vehicle. So here's a thick metal piece right here, that should be sufficient. We'll take the self-tapping screw and secure the stuff. Now we can go ahead and route our green and red T-connector wire. So it simply just goes behind our bumper cover. You can kinda see it running all the way across towards the passenger side of our vehicle, right there. And then it's just gonna go up into the tail light pocket, just like the other side. So you dropped on a fish wire, taped that T-connector to it and pull it up into the tail light pocket. So over here on the passenger side tail light pocket, here's where our wire comes up. I just zip tied it to the factory wire there. So then it dropped down 'cause we do have a little slack. And this gonna work the same way. One end will plug into your factory wire and the other end will plugged back into the tail light. And again, once we have plugged in, we're simply reinstall it the opposite way that we removed it. Now back underneath the vehicle over here on the driver's side, what we have left is this black wire here and this is gonna be the power wire. The end is gonna be pre-stripped. You're gonna wanna grab one of the included butt connectors, and crimp it on. And then what we need to do is grab one end of the big bundle of wire that comes with the kit. You're gonna strip back the insulation there, give it a good twist. And this is simply gonna get plugged in to the other side of the butt connector and crimp down. Since this is a heat shrink butt connector, what we wanna do is come back with a heat source and seal up the ends. Once we have the end sealed, I'm gonna route our power wire to the engine compartment. That way, we can hook it up to our battery. Once I have that done, I'll show you the path that I took to get there. And when you're doing this, you wanna make sure to avoid any hot or moving parts. So here's where it comes, and along the way, I just zip tied it to keep it secure, runs up along through here. And there's some factory wires and stuff there. I just kinda went over the top of those. Here's the wire there, and just follows our e-brake cable there. And to some factory lines, there I just follow those. This continues on all the way towards the front here, where it goes right up. And how I got it up into the engine bay is the same way that we've got out wires into the tail light pockets earlier. I popped the hood, dropped down our fish wire, taped our electrical wire to it, hold it right on up. So here under the hood, here's where our wire comes up and I just routed it straight here. Used the other included butt connector to attach it to the fuse holder here. So strip it back, put it on, crimp it down. Make sure the fuse is not installed. The other end was simply just crimped on the ring terminal. That ring terminal is gonna get connected to the positive side of our battery. So if you loosen up this nut with a 10 millimeter, you can get the ring terminal around it and simply tighten that nut back down. Once that's all done, you can come back take the fuse, pop that into the holder there, close up the dust cover. And now all that's left is to test our wiring to make sure it's working properly. To test our wiring, I do suggest using a tester like this. That way, if your trailer has any issues, we're gonna be able to bypass them. That said, try our left turn signal, our right turn signal, our brakes, and our running lights. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on our 2018 Nissan Kicks..

This kit got my 2020 Nissan Kicks perfectly. I drove with a trailer from South Carolina to California with no issues in the harness. There was an excellent amount of cable at the rear of the vehicle for the trailer plug as well. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great trailer electrical connection to you vehicle.

  • Troubleshooting Right Turn Signal Issues With The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118794
I recommend first testing your Tekonaha wiring harness # 118794 using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Check the pins when there is no trailer connected. If you only have some functions, check the ground wire for a loose connection. If you have a bare metal to metal ground and still have function issues, you can use the circuit tester to trace the wires that don't have function back to their origin. In this case your right turn signal wire, which is green. If there is no power there, check...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2020 Nissan Kicks for Towing Motorcycle Trailer
For your 2020 Nissan Kicks you'd want a hitch like the Draw Tite part # DT94GR to tow a motorcycle trailer. This would have enough capacity to tow a smaller motorcycle trailer but we don't have a hitch that would allow you to carry a motorcycle carrier due to the lighter duty nature of your vehicle. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118794 and for a ball mount part # 3593 and a hitch ball # 19256.

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2022 Nissan Kicks
I checked with Draw-Tite and I can confirm that the Draw-Tite item # DT94GR does fit the 2022 Nissan Kicks. This hitch is custom fit and bolts directly to your Nissan with included hardware, I have linked the installation instructions below. To tow with this hitch you will also need a wiring harness item # 118794 and a ball mount kit item # C45534.

  • Trailer Hitch For A 2019 Nissan Kicks
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT94GR weights 39 pounds. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11563 weights 27 pounds. I would recommend going with the Draw-Tite hitch # DT94GR. It will give you more options on towing trailers, and more options for accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. There is only a few options for the Curt 1-1/4 inch hitch # C11563. The Draw-Tite Hitch has an easy-bolt on installation with no welding required. It has a black powder coat finish...

  • Does Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Fit 2022 Nissan Kicks
Indeed it does! I just verified with Curt that their hitch does fit the 2022 Nissan Kicks; the correct part number is the following: - Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11563 This is a nice option to add to your '22 Kicks as it has a concealed crosstube so only the receiver is going to show, helping your Nissan keep its factory appearance. If you plan to use it for an accessory like a bike rack or cargo carrier you're all set, but if you plan on using the # C11563 for some light towing,...
