Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on both the driver's side and the passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold panel and interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Power Module

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118714 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the T1 vehicle wiring harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector. This product is going to fit certain years and models of the Volkswagen CC. It's going to provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It's going to come with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector.

That way you can cover up the connection points when the plug's not being used. It also comes with the included Modulite power module. This is going to connect directly to the vehicle battery to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. The unit is designed to connect quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate your connection points in your rear cargo area and then plug in your connectors. You're going to have 2 sets of connectors to get connected.

The one with the green wires is going to go to the passenger side of the vehicle. The one with the yellow and brown wires is going to go to the driver's side. It is a custom-fit wiring harness, so these ports are going to match up perfectly with the plugs on the vehicle. They're going to push together and snap lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you get those connected, you'll need to make a ground connection.

You can do that using the white wire right here. That's your ground wire. It has a ring terminal already attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a nice, clean metal surface with the included grounding screw. Then you can go ahead and mount your Modulite power module. You want to get this mounted to a nice clean, out-of-the-way location.

It's going to come with some double-sided adhesive tape. That way you can peel that off, stick it to the back, and then mount the box. Once you have that done, you'll need to connect the hot lead to the vehicle battery. That's going to be the short block wire right here. You're going to connect this wire to the bundle of black wire with one of the included butt connectors. The other end of the black wire runs to the vehicle battery, gets another butt connector attached to it, and connects to one half of the fuse holder. The other half of the fuse holder gets a ring terminal attached to it and gets connected to the positive post on the vehicle battery. It's also going to come with your 15 amp fuse. It goes directly right here in the fuse holder. It's got the fuse cap to keep that safe and protected. It's also going to come with your detailed installation instructions to help walk you through the installation process step by step. Once you have everything connected, you can secure any excess or slack on the wiring that you may have with the included zip ties. Once your installation's complete, the 4-way connector is going to be stowed in your rear cargo area. It is recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. That's really going to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 4.2 amps per circuit. For the tail lights we're looking at 7.5 amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the T1 vehicle wiring harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector.

Plug and play. Hitch was placed on a board and jacked up to meet the bolt holes. Remounted the two tow hooks. Not a lot of extra threads but they all fit perfectly. Glad I had an impact. Wiring had to remove protective cap and plugged in. 4 runner already had a fuse in the box. Bought the 4 flat plug mount but drilling up into hitch proved to be to much so just used a good hose clamp to secure the plug. Also more adjustable wire length if needed.

Product quality very high, delivery very fast, shipping container (cardboard box) was not strong enough to support handling/shipment, box bottom was ruptured with hitch assembly hanging out, box should be supported stronger, no parts missing, hitch was scratched up somebut, nothing that a little black paint didn't fix. I installed the wiring harness connections and fuse box on the external side of the vehicle to eliminate having to take apart the internal sheet metal panels and providing easy access to the fuse in the event of fuse failure, this eliminates the necessity of interior Panel removal to change a fuse. Easy installation, product has great great design features ,great customer service with prompt delivery. Just ordered the bracket (#18140) to secure the 4 prong plug to the hitch neatly and secure to eliminate the loose plug. (not shown in photos (Bracket in transit),

This kit is very easy to install on my 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L and came with almost everything needed to install it. It was only missing 4 screws to secure the 7 pin plug onto vehicle’s the plastic trim but any type of small screws or bolts would work. Definitely recommended to anyone who’s looking to install a 7 pin trailer harness.

Becuase if this website it was easy to find what was needed for my truck to tow. Very detailed installs online. The best part was everything was bolt in and no drilling required along with plug and play wiring harness. Definitely will be another custom tee in the future!

Just installed Draw Tight hitch, wire assembly along with the brackets for a nice look. Everything went smooth with installation and it has a nice clean look as the hitch is well hidden. This is going to work for our bike rack and the cargo carrier I am now going to by. Now I can also get a small utility trailer to pull and haul stuff. I strongly recommend etrailer for all your needs as they communicated with me the whole way through and readily replaced a lock unit that somehow came without the key. Customer service is top notch.

This is a perfectly tailored product for the do-it-yourselfer who with a little help adds a nice hitch to his vehicle. Getting an older vehicle's OEM installed weld nuts clean takes most of the time followed by installing the two washers and nuts in the fascia area. That part needs patience as the work area is limited. The Curt LED 4-Way Flat Connector (Vehicle End) Tester makes it very simple to verify the Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector that is a snap to install to the vehicles pre-existing harness. One point to pay attention to in the instructional video is when pulling the square washer and bolt through the channel. They must slide in single file as shown. If you try to pull with the bolt through the washer it will get stuck and you will need to fish it out. So bottom line. Great product. Great support. Steve Stewart

I purchased this for my 2013 Honda Pilot EX-L. I have not used the wiring harness yet, but the installation was extremely easy and quick. The instructions were very straightforward, and I was able to install everything within 30 minutes. Everything you need is inside the package except some bolts/nuts to mount the connector. I decided to cut out a hole and drill some holes for bolts. I opted for some black ones to match the colors. I'm extremely happy with this product and etrailer's fast and reliable service.

Wish I bought etralier's tow harness earlier. Easy installation. Toyota dealership sold me the wrong one and of course waited too long to return. But use some of the parts from that harness on the one from etrailer(see pics). Would order again from etrailer. Thank you

Plug & play for 2020 Kia Sorento. Dinged a star because the trailer connector does not fit the extra bracket well. It does not appear to have been designed for a bracket mount. I had to force fit and secure in place with a zip tie.

Needed a harness for my 2015 Honda Pilot LX and didn’t want to pay a king’s ransom for dealer parts and install. Ordered from etrailer and got a deal. Came with everything I needed and also had excellent, easy to understand instructions. Works perfectly.

Good product and great service from etrailer! !!!Important note: 2012 Nissan Xterra (depending on what factory it was built) has the 12v power and brake wire REVERSED on the factory installed harness. Meaning when you plug in your trailer, there will be constant power to the brakes on no power to the charge line. If this happens to you like it did to me, you need a tester and a couple butt connectors to make the switch at the 7 pin connector. Also note, these plugs use the trailer for the ground so you're tester wont read if the trailer is not plugged in and you have to hold one of the tester ends to metal on the trailer.

Thank you for your review. This is a common issue on the Nissans. I have attached a very helpful article that explains the issue and how to fix it.

FITS the new 2020 HIGHLANDER! There is a new connector with the 2020 Highlander redesign under the driver side rear bumper. This cable plugs directly into the Highlander connector. See photo. There is no need to route or run wires for the trailer wiring. You will also need a converter to provide the correct signals to this cable. I recommend using the Toyota Plug-n-play converter part number: PT725-48200. It’s around $60 online. Be aware it is installed behind a panel located next to the driver’s side second row seat. Toyota completely changed the vehicle wiring for the 2020 model year. I also recommend the CURT C99FR hitch. Fits perfectly, easy to install and hides behind the bumper.

Instructions provided with adapter are good. My 04 Highlander without tow package had the connector under rear, driver-side cargo tray. Lift the cargo floor, remove the tire-change-tool tray, remove the two plastic nuts on the bottom of the left-side tub, and lift it out. Also under that storage tub is an unused 6mm threaded hole in the body to be used for the ground. Put a fuse in the correct spot of engine compartment fuse block (mine was empty) and good to go. See underside of fuse block lid for tow adapter fuse placement.

Quick and easy installation on my wife’s 2018 Santa Fe Sport Ultimate 2.0T with factory Tow Prep package. I did this as part of installing a Curt hitch, and it was an easy plug and play connection, then just tuck the wiring away and secure with cable ties. Couldn’t be easier! I also installed the “ 4-Flat Universal Mounting Bracket” from etrailer, and it ties the installation together nicely and looks very tidy like a factory installation (I’ve always thought dangling trailer wiring looked sloppy).

Review from a similar T-One in Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

Needed a trailer wiring kit for my 2014 Honda Pilot EX. I am not mechanically inclined, so excuse me for some of the things that may not make sense to you. After reading all the great reviews contributed by the customer plus a few videos on the web, I felt I should be able to handle this task. This product gets 4 starts instead of 5 due to the fittings of the 7 way plug and the black box module. First, there was a variance with the 7 way plug mount. As most of the reviewers used 1/4"-20 sized screws, these were too wide for the kit I received. I ended up replacing them with 10-24 x 3/4 stainless and 10-24 stainless Hex nut with #10 stainless washers. I am sure Nylock's may be fine but I do not have experience with them or removing them. The rivets are a great idea but they are a pain to remove if you need to remove this mount one day. Used a 2" hole saw and cut a piece near the top of the mount. I wanted as much flat surface as possible, and drilled the holes with a 3/16" bit. Next I located the plug under the car that connects to the 7 Way. Just remember it's on the driver side behind the exhaust pipe. This is probably the worst part of the install, or I would call the Grey plug of death. Most videos will show people trying to remove it and cut to the part where it's removed... I guess all the cursing and the head banging was edited out. I tried to pull it apart with an adjustable wrench and it did not budge. Tried to push the long grey clip near the wire to see if it will release, no deal. At this point frustration will set it and you feel compelled to rip the thing apart with whatever tools you have... don't. First get a flat headed screwdriver and gently release the blue tab that holds the plug. Then again, "gently" pull it off the car and wrap the wire around the exhaust to the back of the bumper. You must remove the blue tab off the plug, push on the small release tab on top and push the blue tab off. The blue tab acts like a locking mechanism, it keeps the plug from separating. Apply some dielectric grease and connect to the 7 way wire. Run the wire under the bumper and plug it into the 7 way mount. Before you do that, push back on the gray tab on the top and apply some dieletric grease, plug it in and push the lock in. Like previous reviews, this plug does not fit perfectly so the locking mechanism on mine was useless. It sits tight enough though. Use zip ties to secure the wires, you don't want it to flop or when it comes time to use the spare tire, you don't want the tire to rip the wire off the mount. Onto the black box. On left side of truck, open the hatch, and open the inside hatch. Use a flat head screwdriver and pry open the fuse hatch. If don't have a silver box inside the big hatch, use you left hand to install the white plug.. if you have a silver box like me, you have no choice but to install the black box with one hand. Locate the white plug inside the fuse hatch, take the white plug on the black box and attach it with your hand, palm side up. The wire is stiff enough where it will line up and make sure you hear the click. Push the wire back and slide the black box along the metal clip until the tab locks in. My box didn't fit along the clip, so I zip tied around the black box and slid the box where the tab goes under the zip tie. Open your hood, it's the fuse box to the right next to battery. Open and install the fuse. Test the lights and you are good to go. I painted the screws so it matches. So it loses a star due to the poor manufacturing of the 7 way and the black box. The product is great and etrailer gets 5 stars. Good luck with the install, should take less than an hour if you can remove the blue tab quickly and get the right screws.

Comments
Product still working great and holding up. Only complaint, if I had one was the connection I mentioned, it didn’t not click and lock like it was suppose to.. but as long as it was tight, it’s fine. Another great product from etrailer Thank you for asking

I give this product a 10 better than excellent! Until I found by accident, the etrailer video i had started to purchase a trailer harness at the auto parts store and splice the wires to my tail lights like i did years ago. Thanks to YouTube, my iPhone and etrailer i was able to install this trailer wiring within an hour, no fuss, no mess. Thank you so much. Product Review: first picture my 2012 GMC Terrain , Second picture, searching for the plug outlet for the trailer lights. Third picture, thanks to the E-trailer you tube Video I was able to locate the outlet. Forth picture, I cut some of the panel away to make easy excess to the plug outlet, I then , took an air hose and cleaned any debris in the outlet. Fifth picture, I plugged in an tested my new trailer wiring harness, worked perfect. Sixth picture, the finished product, I used a Felcro tie and attached the harness to a ring .

This hitch was very easy to install. I did not have to lower the exhaust. I just had to pull down a little for the hitch to slip over it. My vehicle was already prewired from the factory so the wiring was simple plug and play. One connector just had to remove the factory connector cover and plug it the harness and route harness along hitch. A couple of long tie wraps, black electrical tape or any other type of tape would work great for running the harness along the hitch (not supplied). I am attaching several pictures after the installation. It looks great and is very well hidden. Receiver is all that shows with wire connector. There is about 12 to 18 inches of wire above the facia that can be pulled down for use if needed. Very glad I ordered the Curt hitch #13541 and T-One wiring Harness for the Factory Tow package #118252. By the way Great service from ordering over the phone to delivery.

Comments
The hitch on my 2012 and wiring harness are working out great. I even took it to my dealership and they added it to the their records on my vehicle, showing that I added the hitch and harness. They were also impressed with the way I trimed around the hitch, hiding as much as I could. My wife didnt even notice it for a week. This was the first time I used it. Good job with the design and fitment.

Review from a similar T-One in Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

I just purchased a new 2013 Honda Pilot EX-L/Nav and tow package. The odd thing to me is that Honda installs a nice hitch, but no wiring. I shopped a number of on-line services as Honda prices (even discounted) are absurd. As always, I ended up at etrailer.com. To be candid I was not excited about messing with wiring on a new vehicle, but this wiring harness is (#118265) AWESOME! All in it might have been an hour, but directions and all fittings were perfect. I would not recommend the mounting box as it simply is not required. There is a clearly identified area next to the hitch where the recepticle will be installed. We simply used a hole saw on a cordless drill and did a bit of trimming. Once you get the hole "right" it's as simple as drilling pilot holes for the 4 corner. We used stainless steel screws (1/4" x 20 x 1.5" and 1/4 x 20 x 1") and stainless nylock nuts to secure the recepticle even though the screws actually threaded up snugly with the bumper cover. All in all, a very tidy installation! And as always, customer support was awesome!

The wiring kit has been used extensively over the past year and continues to perform perfectly!

The product, OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness with 7-Way Connector - 118265, was exactly what I needed. I installed this myself in a 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L that comes with an incomplete tow package (no wiring harness). Installation was easy with the instructions and a little research. All plugs were exact fits. I used a hole saw and cut on the opposite side of the hitch since the harness reached without issue. The application is a little different than the Honda configured cutout. I purchased 4 each of screws, washers, and lock nuts for less than a dollar and secured the connector. I had a mechanic test the connection and everything checked out.

Comments
Hi Casey, I have the exact same pilot, and I am confused about what i actually need for the wiring. Some sites indiacte i need to take out the third row, open up a panel, and do some installations inside the vehicle. Form the comments here, it sounds like all that is required is to plugg the harness into the existing receptacle behind the bumper and install the 7 pin plug on the bumper beside the hitch. Did you have to do the long way or the easy way?Dustin
-- comment by: Dustin - 08/30/2014

Comments
Dustin - Connections that are made inside are through the panel which are accessible without removing seats. I think I just laid the third row down for access. The other connection is behind the bumper. Its an easy application as far as harnesses go. Cutting the hole and fitting plug was the most difficult part. A dremel type tool for cutting and shaping the cutout is recommended.

Jesse at eTrailer help me with configuring my 2009 Honda Pilot to be able to pull legal loads. I had previously installed their 4 pin connector but I want to be able to use trailers with brakes to full extent. I added a Redarc brake controller in a convenient location. Easy to replace the current harness with the 7 way connector. A little more work to pull panels to locate the Redarc control head exactly where i wanted it, but no biggie. As always, great customer service and a great product. Thanks Jesse and all at eTrailer.
