Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Installation was easy. The included videos that etrailer provides in the product descriptions are super helpful.

Been running this product for a year now towing and launching my boat and have had zero issues. The harness has never failed to keep my trailer lights functioning properly.

2014 Kia Sorento

This product is as advertised. I have never installed a trailer hitch and this was just as simple as the videos on the website and the instructions provided. The lighting kit (#118583) was just as easy to install. Excellent product. I put this hitch on my 2014 Kia Sorento in about 1 hour by myself with the vehicle on the ground.

In my opinion this is "THE" harness to use for this application because you only have to plug into and do not have to splice or cut into the vehicles tail light wiring. For me, spicing or cutting into a vehicle's expensive and critical wiring is a BIG NO NO and should only be done as a last resort.

THE EASY PART
The harness fits perfectly. It is long enough to comfortably route from the left tail light to the right tail light and has a few inches of slack to spare on each side for ease of removing the tail lights (if the need should ever arise). However, they could have made the white ground wire about 18" longer because there is a screw stud on the left side of the vehicle that the ground wire can be connected to (I added an extra length of wire to the ground wire in order to connect to this point). I do not like making holes for a screw in any vehicle which is another of my BIG NO NOs. If there is a existing factory screw stud or hole that I can use I will use it.

I highly recommend using 1/2" split wire loom for the harness wire because the loom will protect and support the harness and make the installation of the harness to the vehicle using zip ties a much more secure and professional installation.

THE HARD PART!!!
Running the harness's power wire to the front of the vehicle is tricky and hard because you have to safely route it above the rear suspension and then safely to the front of the vehicle. It took me ten time longer trying to figure out the best and most safe way of routing the wire then actually installing the wire.

I highly recommend using 1/4" split wire loom for the power wire because the loom will protect and support the power wire and make the installation of the wire to the vehicle using zip ties (and some existing clamps and screw studs on the vehicle) a much more secure and professional installation.

Mike, Is the stud that you used for the ground wire like the ones that the plastic under body panels snap onto?

The trailer wiring was purchased for my wife’s KIA. All the local so called experts here in the City area said they couldn’t get the parts to wire my wife’s car and when I told them they could get the right harness from you guys they looked you up online and said that that was not the right part and it would not work. When I told them my son in law ( who has experience wiring trailers) says it is the right part they laughed at me. Well I bought the wiring harness from you anyway, my son in law and I installed it and it works perfectly.

by:
2016 Kia Sorento

The product works great, and the installation was fairly straight forward. The only drawback was the wire going from the main unit to the passenger side was a few feet to short. This was an easy fix, I simply spliced a few feet of 16 gauge wire with some butt connectors. I would have given it 5 stars if the wiring was just a bit longer.

Its held up fine, and has worked w/o any issues.

by:

For the most part, the installation was faily painless, except for the fact that the installation instructions made this unnecessarily awkward by requiring a line run the length of the vehicle to the battery when it is wholly unnecessary since there is a factory auxiliary 12v adapter (cigarette plug) mounted in the trunk of Kia Sorentos. I just spliced into that behind the panel instead so I didn't have to crawl under the car at all.

by:

I've never installed a trailer hitch before on any vehicle but this was basically plug & play..the wiring was equally done with ease with the wiring kit that I ordered. It took about 2 hrs by myself!

by:

The harness was fine, but the instructions for my vehicle were not accurate. And I would have had a better time if it was not for a two ft. by five ft. fiberglass pan under the drivers side of the vehicle which had to be removed for wiring and reinstalled after.

Kia

Thought it was a difficult install not because of the wiring harness, but because of the way it had to be installed. Others that I've done only required finding the single point connector that the car mfr. had designed in for that purpose. I guess Kia didn't do that. Connecting the "T" to each tail light assembly, feeding the cables through internal structures and then reinstalling the tail lights with the bulky Ts in place was a challenge. Care is needed to protect the new cables with split tubing of some kind. I didn't run the primary power cable back to the fuse box. Instead I used a fused power plug to connect to the accesory outlet nearby. I think the harness assembly is well made and works fine. Don't use it much.

Etrailer does a fantastic job helping you pick the products you need. I am very happy with the trailer wiring harness I purchased. It's made my Sorento much more useful. Additionally, I purchased their etrailer brand hitch kit. It was extermely well made, with excellent fit and finish. The cost of items you get from etrailer compared to dealer provided is half price, and the quality is the same. The folks on the phone are first rate. Additionally, the installation videos are fantastic. Concerned about taking on the project? Watch the etrailer videos, they'll help you decide.

by:
2018 Kia Sorento

I ordered the harness for a Kia without the trailer light pre-wiring, and without a doubt mine did in fact have it. I called e-trailer to determine if I could wire it up as the instructions state by by-passing the pre-wiring harness all together. E-trailer didn't have any records of people doing that; but determined as I was to get moving with my hitch/wiring install I went ahead and tried it anyway. I'm pulling a small fishing boat and everything I've seen works as I'd expect. Delivery was quick, parts were good, and the on-line videos for this install were great. Other than my own order mix-up, everything was great.

by:
2014 Kia Sorento

I purchased the both the hitch and proper wiring harness for my 2014 Kia Sorento from etrailer.com

They arrived quickly and in excellent condition.

The hitch install was fairly easy and the fit was excellent.

This is the second product I have purchased from etrailer.com and both were excellent experiences.

by:

I was happy with delivery of items time was good and all items were present in package, have not installed items yet

by:
2018 Ford Edge

Got a call to confirm shipment to different address than billing address; arrived in @3 to 4 days in good condition.

Instructions to install were very helpful. I started to scope out installation with 2 hours of daylight left. Ended up going for the install since it looked simple enough once I completed the first few steps.

Instructions for removing tail lights were not current; the 2018 has no exposed screws; instead two nuts behind removeable panels in interior rear side panels. Also two alignment post at front edge of light were tight and took repeated rocking and pushing backward to remove.

Also, to reinstall spare tire it cannot go straight up; instead the tire needs to be tilted up in back as its being raised to clear hitch cross bar.

Overall, easy installation and all parts fit well. The only portion not yet complete is running cable to battery; thats tomorrows task!

Ordered a hitch and wiring. Wrong wire set, totally my fault. Called etrailer for help in ordering the correct wire set and sending back the incorrect one. Ian couldn’t have been more professional or more pleasant to work with. Bottom line, everything installed quickly and easily and most importantly, works flawlessly. I will be sure to come back to etrailer again in the future if I need these parts for another vehicle.

2017 Kia Sorento

Helen M. was extremely helpful knowing which hitch to pick for my vehicle. She was also aware that my 2017 Sorento came wired from the factory and knew where to tell me to look for them. The wiring was where she said it would be and that saved me a lot of time and additional cost.

The hitch itself is as advertised and a good value for the price. Simple install. Completed it with a friend.

by:
2019 Kia Sorento

Well made product. Harness to passengers side could have been 4 inches longer. Had to place power module close to centerline of vehicle, not the nice flat spot I wanted. Also, power wire from module could be longer to make connection while sitting on ground. Not everyone has access to a hoist.
Splice connectors should be heat shrink. I used heat shrink tubing
Took me about 5 hours working on my back.
2019 Kia Sorento tail lights come out straight back.
YouTube videos helped.

by:
2014 Kia Sorento

Pay the few extra dollars to get this product over the lower cost models if you have a 2014 Kia Sorento. It will last longer (instead of a few months) and work more reliably. I tried this one due to the higher amperage specs over the lower cost models:
Stop/turn lights: 4.2 amps per circuit
Tail lights: 7.5 amps per circuit

by:
2020 Kia Sorento

This product was easy to install and made the process of adding a trailer hitch capability to my 2020 Kia Sorento a breeze. The tutorial videos provided by etrailer explained installation precisely to insure professional style hookup. As a 68 year old man I was able to completely install the wiring from my garage floor in about an hour and a half.
