Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

The trailer wiring was purchased for my wife’s KIA. All the local so called experts here in the City area said they couldn’t get the parts to wire my wife’s car and when I told them they could get the right harness from you guys they looked you up online and said that that was not the right part and it would not work. When I told them my son in law ( who has experience wiring trailers) says it is the right part they laughed at me. Well I bought the wiring harness from you anyway, my son in law and I installed it and it works perfectly.

Still working great

I am really happy with etrailer. The order process, the shipping , the quality of the product, the fitment on my vehicle, and the online video installation instructions made the whole experience great. Everything worked perfectly, and I was on my way with a trailer after a few hours of effort.

by:

I love etrailer.com! I have used their services many times and am very pleased. They are quick and cordial. I also love that the emails I get concerning my shipments come from the same employees. This gives a sense of loyalty to the company, longevity, and professional and expert customer service.

Aside from the service, the parts are excellent and have worked with my 4’ x 8’ folding utility trailer I bought from Harbor Freight. I’ve upgraded the trailer axle, springs, tires, fenders, and lights with parts from etrailer.com. I also purchased my car’s trailer hitch and wiring from etrailer.com.

by:

It was easier than I thought it would be. Im no electrian. But I took my time and everything went well. Nice setup. I did buy shrinkwrap butt connectors. Keep moisture out better.Hardest part was getting the tailights out.

by:

I was a little confused as to what i needed and etrailer cleared it up and expedited my order to help with my needs.

by:

Excellent product with fast shipping. The wiring harness is plug and play and works well.

by:

One year later we are still enjoying our hitch with no issues.

by:

I've never installed a trailer hitch before on any vehicle but this was basically plug & play..the wiring was equally done with ease with the wiring kit that I ordered. It took about 2 hrs by myself!

by:
2014 Kia Sorento

This product is as advertised. I have never installed a trailer hitch and this was just as simple as the videos on the website and the instructions provided. The lighting kit (#118583) was just as easy to install. Excellent product. I put this hitch on my 2014 Kia Sorento in about 1 hour by myself with the vehicle on the ground.

by:

Installation of the wiring was very easy

by:

loved your product and service so much, I got my daughter to buy a bike rack from y'all. Chrissy was great

by:

I would recommend etrailer to anyone who needs part's for they're trailers.

by:

The harness was fine, but the instructions for my vehicle were not accurate. And I would have had a better time if it was not for a two ft. by five ft. fiberglass pan under the drivers side of the vehicle which had to be removed for wiring and reinstalled after.

Comments
Not sure which vehicle you are talking about, but I have no issues.

I was happy with delivery of items time was good and all items were present in package, have not installed items yet

by:

A A A seller

by:

It was delivered within 2 days! Shipped the same day I ordered!! Already installed it! Perfect fit on my wife's 2020 KIA Sorento!

by:

It was easy to install and it works, but the one metal prong in the connector that connects to the trailer seems a bit wobbly and it doesn't always line up right making the connection a bit tricky.

by:
2014 Kia Sorento

In my opinion this is "THE" harness to use for this application because you only have to plug into and do not have to splice or cut into the vehicles tail light wiring. For me, spicing or cutting into a vehicle's expensive and critical wiring is a BIG NO NO and should only be done as a last resort.

THE EASY PART
The harness fits perfectly. It is long enough to comfortably route from the left tail light to the right tail light and has a few inches of slack to spare on each side for ease of removing the tail lights (if the need should ever arise). However, they could have made the white ground wire about 18" longer because there is a screw stud on the left side of the vehicle that the ground wire can be connected to (I added an extra length of wire to the ground wire in order to connect to this point). I do not like making holes for a screw in any vehicle which is another of my BIG NO NOs. If there is a existing factory screw stud or hole that I can use I will use it.

I highly recommend using 1/2" split wire loom for the harness wire because the loom will protect and support the harness and make the installation of the harness to the vehicle using zip ties a much more secure and professional installation.

THE HARD PART!!!
Running the harness's power wire to the front of the vehicle is tricky and hard because you have to safely route it above the rear suspension and then safely to the front of the vehicle. It took me ten time longer trying to figure out the best and most safe way of routing the wire then actually installing the wire.

I highly recommend using 1/4" split wire loom for the power wire because the loom will protect and support the power wire and make the installation of the wire to the vehicle using zip ties (and some existing clamps and screw studs on the vehicle) a much more secure and professional installation.

Mike,How long split wilre loom do you need for an install?1/2 inch x what for trailer harness?1/4 inch x what for battery cable?

Mike, Is the stud that you used for the ground wire like the ones that the plastic under body panels snap onto?

2014 Kia Sorento

Pay the few extra dollars to get this product over the lower cost models if you have a 2014 Kia Sorento. It will last longer (instead of a few months) and work more reliably. I tried this one due to the higher amperage specs over the lower cost models:
Stop/turn lights: 4.2 amps per circuit
Tail lights: 7.5 amps per circuit

2017 Kia Sorento

Helen M. was extremely helpful knowing which hitch to pick for my vehicle. She was also aware that my 2017 Sorento came wired from the factory and knew where to tell me to look for them. The wiring was where she said it would be and that saved me a lot of time and additional cost.

The hitch itself is as advertised and a good value for the price. Simple install. Completed it with a friend.

by:
2014 Kia Sorento

Worked just like it should. Not complicated to install. Comes with everything needed.

by:
2016 Kia Sorento

The product works great, and the installation was fairly straight forward. The only drawback was the wire going from the main unit to the passenger side was a few feet to short. This was an easy fix, I simply spliced a few feet of 16 gauge wire with some butt connectors. I would have given it 5 stars if the wiring was just a bit longer.

Comments
Its held up fine, and has worked w/o any issues.

Etrailer does a fantastic job helping you pick the products you need. I am very happy with the trailer wiring harness I purchased. It's made my Sorento much more useful. Additionally, I purchased their etrailer brand hitch kit. It was extermely well made, with excellent fit and finish. The cost of items you get from etrailer compared to dealer provided is half price, and the quality is the same. The folks on the phone are first rate. Additionally, the installation videos are fantastic. Concerned about taking on the project? Watch the etrailer videos, they'll help you decide.

by:

This is the easiest, and the best way to get trailer lights on a non factory wire harness!

by:

Installation went as expected but went longer than expected since I did not have a lift, so we had to work in a smaller space under the car. I was pleased with the timing of order to delivery; nothing was damaged or missing. I definitely would recommend etrailer to anyone needing a trailer hitch.

The first thing I would do is check the test the wire running into the powered converter. It is unlikely you have power here since I'm assuming your vehicle light isn't always on, but it doesn't hurt to check. Assuming you do not have power, I would go ahead and inspect the other wiring for a short just to be sure. It also wouldn't hurt to check the ground connection. If all of this checks out, the problem is the converter box and the wiring harness # 118583 will need to be replaced.
