Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

Tail Light T Connector Diagram

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area. It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on our 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, we'll be installing the Tow Ready, T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, Part Number 118571. First, we'll open up the rear cargo door then we'll remove the two fasteners securing driver's side tail light housing. Next, we'll go ahead and remove the tail light housing by pulling backward towards the rear of the vehicle, popping it free from its alignment pins and fasteners underneath then we'll go ahead and press in the locking tab for the connector and remove the wiring from the tail light assembly. Next, we'll remove the rear bumper cover fastener securing here underneath the tail light assembly. We'll remove this so that we can pull out on it giving us more access to feeding our wires from underneath up into the tail light assembly area. Now, we have the driver's side tail light assembly remove, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process in the passenger side.

Next because the converter box will be hidden behind the bumper cover, we're going to go ahead and attach the long length of black wire which will be our power wire up to the battery from the converter box. So we'll take the short black wire from the converter box using the yellow butt connector securing to the power wire and then strip back the end of our power wire to the battery, attach it to the butt connector securing the long length of wire to the short power wire that goes to the converter box, this will be black to black. Note: At this time, I'll go ahead and wrap up this connection point with some black electrical tape just to keep dirt, dust and debris, and moisture, meandering the connection point. Next, we'll get underneath the vehicle. Now, remove the underbody trim panels.

There's one on each side. Here on the driver's side, they'll be four fasteners that we need to be removed and on the passenger's side, they'll be three fasteners. These are the push fasteners, so we'll screw the centers out and then remove the entire fastener. Now, we can go ahead and pop the underbody trim panel free and set it aside for installation later. Now, we'll go ahead and take a piece of air tubing or a piece of wire, or a pole wire feed it down from the tail light assembly underneath the vehicle.

Here, we can take the yellow and brown wire connector using some black electrical tape and attach it to the pole wire then we'll pull it up behind the tail light assembly. Now, with our wire behind the tail light assembly, we'll go ahead and remove the pole wire and connect the yellow and brown wire to the manufacturer's wiring -- the other end, plugging in the back of the tail light assembly. Note: Don't forget to reinstall the fastener for the bumper cover. Now, we'll go ahead and reinstall the driver's side tail light assembly. Next, we'll get back underneath the vehicle and take the white wire from our converter box with a pre-attached ring terminal and secure it to the body or frame of the vehicle.

Using a self-tapping screw, we can secure here directly underneath the tail light assembly, near the rear bumper. We can then go ahead and secure it underneath using the zip tie provided with the install kit. Now with that done, we'll go ahead and start routing the red and green wire connector over to the passenger side. We'll feed it up behind the bumper frame and over to the passenger side then use our pole wire once again to feed up behind the passenger side tail light assembly. Next, we'll take our 4-pole wire, following the same route and feed it over to the center of the hitch. Once again, we'll use our zip tie to secure it in place. Now, we'll go ahead and cut off the excess from the zip ties to clean up our install look. Our next step, we'll be routing our power wire to the engine compartment. Remember when routing your wires, just stay away from excessive heat such as the exhaust or moving components such as steering or suspension. As we go over the rear suspension, we'll be using the quarter inch metal loom clamp, Part Number A0250 and a self-tapping screw. Once again, we'll use our black zip ties to secure our wiring as we go. Now, once we've got it up to the bottom of the engine compartment, we'll use our pole wire, feed it up through the engine compartment, attach our power wire and pull it into position, at the top of the engine bay. Now, we're done underneath. We'll go ahead and cut off any excess from the zip ties to clean up our install look. At this time, we can also reinstall the underbody trim panel. Now with our vehicle lowered, we'll go ahead and reinstall the passenger tail light assembly. We'll go ahead and plug it in to the tail light assembly and then reinstall it. With that done, we'll go ahead and close the rear cargo door. Moving to the engine bay, we'll take our power wire and secure it to the manufacturer's wiring using the zip tie provided with our install kit then we'll route it over to the positive battery terminal. Next, we'll go ahead and cut off any excess from our power wire as we'll need to install an in-line fuse holder. We'll go ahead and cut off the excess and strip back the wire. Then we'll go ahead and prepare our fuse holder, by cutting in half, stripping back both ends, adding a butt connector and then a ring terminal. Now, we'll take the butt connector and add it to the power wire and secure it. Once again, we'll go ahead and wrap up this connection with some black electrical tape. Now with that done, we'll go ahead and take the ring terminal, feed it through the positive battery terminal cover and up to the positive battery terminal post. Here, we can go ahead and remove the nut, add the ring terminal and then re-secure the nut. We'll go ahead and close the cover and then we can add our fuse to the fuse holder. Once we install the cap on to the fuse holder, this will complete the install of our Tow Ready, T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, Part Number 118571 on our 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Not real happy, the proiduct did not fit properly. The wiring over to the passenger tail light was about a foot too short. We had to splice in our own wiring to make it reach tail light. 463928

Trailer Hitch was no problem went in without a hitch. Punny. The wiring harness is another story. Need a little bit more wire for the connectors to mount easily, had to pull slightly to get connected to the light assembly. Tested the lights ( running, right and left turn signal) all worked , but the brake lights never come on when depressing the brake pedal. All of this was tested with the tester. in the Curt harness the completion is the Tech testing the lights. In the one you substituted (Tec....) kit there is no test performed. Has anyone checked to see if the harness is compatable to the tester or vice versa. I have disconnect the lights cover connecters twice now and everything is the same ,no brake lights. on the curt kit install the running lights are a single light indication. like the turn signal. the brake indication is all lights lite , and the turn signal glow stronger and blink. My indication is no running lights on turn signal work OK. running lites on all led's lite. Press brake pedal and no change in lights on tester. turn signal work the same as above. I am completely lost ? Is it the wire harness, the tester, there is a reason that the curt Tech tested in the video but, the one in the other brand did not!!!! ? also is the end of the trailer hitch supposed to extend out from my bumper by 3.X inches . if so it doesn't . it is back under the bumper by about that much. See beginning of Curt hitch installation , where Tech is discussing the hitch. Maybe the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport changed in 2017 and you need to check your products. Not pleased with the installation or wire harness. 457101

Joseph, Thank you for your review on 118571. When testing a 4 way with the circuit tester curt I26 your brake light is combined with the left and right turn signals because it is a combined wiring system. As long as these two signals light up your brake light should be working. If all the LEDS are lighting up then you may need to make sure your 4 way is properly grounded. The white wire needs to be grounded on a clean bare metal surface. I have attached a link for troubleshooting a 4 and 5-way wiring setup. Also, the curt hitch for the Santa Fe extends 5-1/2 inches from center of hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of your bumper. I have attached a link for troubleshooting a 4 and 5-way wiring setup.

The hitch and wiring harness arrived quickly and in excellent condition. The hitch installed easily and quickly. The wiring harness took longer to install on my new Santa Fe Sport than expected but was not difficult. The online videos were a great help as the instructions that came in the package are hard to follow. Excellent service and a great product. Great pricing also. 71219

With the help of a mechanic, a lift and all the right tools the hitch went on easily. The wiring harness was a little challenging as connections had to be made directly to each tail light. It required finding existing holes to run the wiring harness which required pulling the back panels loose and removing the storage area compartments. This is where the mechanic came in handy as he knew what to pull to pop things loose. I am very pleased with the communication with the eTrailer staff in making sure I had the correct parts needed to install my hitch. 301400

Instructions were great, but the cables give you 0 slack! The driver side wireing in particular had zero slack and was very difficult to install, in fact it was so tight that the white ground cable broke and had to get extended. If there were several more inches of wireing, the installation whould have gone a lot more smoothly. Fortunatley i know how to do simple wireing and was able to finish the install. I have 2 issues with this wiring harness: 1) the ground cable was 6" too short, Therefore, I had to splice a 6" lead to the ground cable. 2) the cable leading from the left taillight to the right taillight needs to be 2" longer to allow for for a more relaxed run. 75420

  • 2018 Sante Fe Sport Trailer Hitch Fit Recommendation
  • The correct Curt Class III trailer hitch you'd need for a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is the part # C13152 whereas the # C13153 that you refernced fits the SE and Limited models. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118571 which is a confirmed fit. • For the long wheelbase 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe you can use trailer hitch # C13153 that you have referenced. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It includes 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring for a non-Sport without the factory tow package use # 118571. Or for a non-Sport model with the factory tow package use # 118269.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
  • If the plan is to do any towing and there is a 2 inch hitch available that's the way to go. So for your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport the Curt hitch part # C13152 would be a great option and the best recommendation we can make. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118571. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch...

  • Troubleshooting Hyper Flash After Trailer Wiring Install on a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • I checked your order notes and it looks like you have the Curt trailer wiring harness part # C56184 on your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. Sometimes if the Curt wiring harnesses converter boxes don't get secured well enough to where they are mounted they can end up shorting out from banging around in the vehicle. This isn't a super common problem with Curt harnesses, but we have found that the double-sided tape of the box comes loose pretty easily and can cause movement which can damage the...

  • Comparing Curt Class III Trailer Hitches for a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
  • Because your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (these 2 hitches only fit Sport models) maxes out at 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight there would be no benefit to go to the higher capacity hitch (# C13152). However, hitch # C13152 is rated for use with weight distribution whereas the lower capacity hitch is not. Even if you do not plan on using weight distribution to tow a trailer what this means is that the hitch that is rated for weight distribution does NOT require the use of a stabilization...

  • Installation of Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
  • Installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13152 on your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is estimated at about 30 minutes for someone with some mechanical skills. Overall this is a fairly straightforward installation. I've linked an install video and the install details for you. The wiring harness # 118269 is the correct part for the Sport model if you have the factory tow package. It plugs in to a connector at the rear of your Santa Fe along the frame rail. Then you just need to...

  • Recommended Parts for Towing a Trailer with a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • Any local shop will be able to easily install a trailer hitch receiver on your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe without a problem. We do not have a list of shops that we recommend so you will either want to go to one that you do business with or call around and check prices for an install. In all honesty none of the hitch receiver options for your Santa Fe are very hard to install so if you are fairly confident in working on vehicles it will be fairly easy. I do recommend installing a hitch that...
