Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Power Module

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118552 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part #118552. This is the Tow Ready T-1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector. This fits a few different vehicles so you want to use the vehicle fit guide located on our website to make sure this fits your particular year, make and model. This unit's going to provide your 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This unit is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adaptors. Those are available and sold separately. The great advantage of a system like this, since it is a custom fit vehicle harness, is it's going to connect quickly and easily.

You don't really have to modify anything. The only wire you're going to have to cut is going to be the included fuse holder. You really don't have to cut or splice any wires. All you have to do is locate the connection points behind the taillights at the rear of your vehicle, plug in the connectors, easy snap-together plugs so you're going to know they're connected, then run the hot lead to the car battery. Hot lead is the red wire coming out of the box.

Your going to extend it and get some extra wiring with the included black wire right here. That's going to give you the length you need to run from the rear of your vehicle all the way to the front to the vehicle battery. The black box is a ModuLite power module that's going to connect directly to the vehicle battery though the wiring, that way it's going to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. This unit is constructed of 16 gauge bonded wire and it's going to come with a dust cap right here for the 4-way flat connector. Simply just fits over the connection points, that way it will protect the connector when not in use and it's just going to keep it safe from the elements. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, that's going to be 4.2 amps per circuit, taillights is going to be 7.5 amps per circuit. Very simple installation.

You can see some of the helpful things that it comes with laid out here on the table. You need to gain access to the taillight connectors at the rear of the vehicle on both the driver and passenger side. You're going to plug in the appropriate T-connectors to each side. The side that has the green and white wires, that's going to run to the passenger side of the vehicle. The end with the yellow and brown wires is going to run to the drivers side.

You can see here it gives you extra green wire that way you can make that leap over to the passenger side. Gives you extra wiring so you can make that connection as necessary. The other end goes to the passenger side, that's the green one here. This end goes to the drivers side. Very easy to do. Again, the detailed instructions are going to walk you through the installation process step by step. It's going to include the white wire right here with the ring terminal. That's going to be your ground connection. It also comes with a self tapping screw, that way you can easily get that ground connection made. Then you're going to use the double-sided tape to stick the power module to the vehicle. Nice clean surface is where you want to mount that, so the double-sided tape is included. The red wire is going to connect to the black wire using a butt connector. All the connectors that you need are included. You just crimp those together, then the black wire is going to run all the way to the vehicles battery. It's going to connect to the yellow fuse holder using another butt connector. You just snap or cut the wiring right here in the middle, take one end of the butt connector, connect it to the yellow wiring, take the other end and connect it to the black wire. You'll need to get that crimp down. Again, it's going to include all the necessary connectors, double-sided tape. On the other end of the yellow wire, you're going to attach a ring terminal. That's going to get attached to the positive post on the vehicle battery. Once you have that connected you can install the included fuse. It goes directly into the fuse holder right there, snaps into place, and then you just close the dust cap over top of it. Comes with some zip ties that way you can secure the wiring along the vehicle. Make sure you take all the slack out of that. It's going to give the installation a nice clean look. Then you also want to always be sure to apply some grease, dielectric grease to the connection points on the automobile and the 4-way flat. It's just going to prevent any type of rust or corrosion from being able to settle on the connection points. I'd always double check the instructions. Make sure you have everything attached correctly. Make sure you have everything reassembled as indicated in the instructions. That's going to do it for today's review of part #118552. This is the Tow Ready T-1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-pole flat trailer connector. .

I remember what was involved in this job before these harnesses. This is a wonderful solution. Very easy to follow instructions make for an easy professional installation. A little patience when running the power wire goes a long way. The factory connections ensure reliable, maintenance free operation. I like the loop on the flat 4 connector that secures to the safety chain loop to secure the connector when not in/not in use. The only shortfall is that there aren't enough zip ties included to properly secure the power wire when routing it to the battery. I would recommend this product if you want a one-and-done trailer lighting solution. 654979

Works absolutely perfectly on my 2010 dodge caliber. I used some of my own additional cable ties to make sure everything was absolutely secure, as I'm a little OCD about such things. Works perfectly with all functionality tested. 62603

Easy plug and play system worth the money to avoid the aggravation of soldering/crimping and cutting your factory wires. One note about installation of the box in the tail light housing, use a piece of duct tape first to make sure where you mount it will not interfere with the light sockets when reinstalling the light assembly as the two sided tape supplied sticks really well and you can't move it after pressing it down. Instructions were easy to follow and understand. Thanks etrailer for another great product. 504880

This was a perfect and easy install. Two things that I am critical of are very minor but want to point it out as it had me concerned. The first thing was during the order process, the software no longer identified the vehicle the hitch was to fit. Upon arrival and opening the box, paperwork then confirmed the hitch was for the correct vehicle. The second concern was the Drawtite wiring harness instructions. We live in a northern climate where snowfall is common and sodium solutions are used to remove ice from road surfaces. The instructions had the power wire running outside the vehicle and was to be attached with unprotected crimp connectors. In this environment, that is guaranteed not to work in time. I modified the wiring install procedure to run all wiring inside the vehicle by removing panels and placing the wires in the factory protective tracks. The complete system works very well. No interference with the exhaust and all fits real well. 203422

This T-One vehicle wiring harness is exactly what the local hitch installer uses where I live. I know because I called and asked them what they would use to hook up my trailer lights. Their garage is one that I have used in the past on three occasions, I know they do top quality work and I value their opinions. The owner told me they use only this product because they find it the best available. So I bought it and followed the video instructions. It was a snap and it works perfectly. The majority of the install time was taken by running the #10 copper wire up to the battery. I took my time to attach it to the brake lines all the way to the battery area. I needed to use several more nylon ties than were provided in the kit as I am a little bit overly careful and wanted a tie every foot or so. But these ties are cheap so I used many more. I believe that my job has been done better than a shop would have done it for me. They just could not have taken the time that I did. My hitch install, 30 minutes or less, and my light hook up and testing, about 1 hour and 45 minutes totaled less than it would have taken me to drive to the shop, wait for the install and then drive home. On top of that, I would have spent $10 I on gas that is now still in my pocket. Plus I like knowing that my job was done just so! 24177

Huge pain to install. First, you have to drill into your vehicle to ground it, which I don't like. Second, you have to run the wire all the way from the back to the front, tucking and securing it deep along your vehicles frame. I did this at my house with only the back of my vehicle jacked up, which made it a tight fit as I moved to the front. Last, there was not neat way to secure the wire because I didn't buy the matching T-one trailer hitch (I bought the Curt), so the wiring is more or less just wrapped around the base. All this to be said, I installed another wiring system on my Subaru, which took WAY less time, neatly plugged in once to the back, and tucked in to the spare tire cargo area. This entire wiring system needs to be re-designed. 160433

I installed another tow ready wiring harness in another vehicle 2 1/2 years ago and it is still functioning properly so I decided to use this brand again. The product installs as advertised and as described in etrailers instructions. One thing to be careful of - when you mount the converter box, make sure you place it low enough in the compartment so that it does not block the taillight assembly from going back in place. If you stick it on in the wrong place you may not be able to move it and reuse the same adhesive provided. When you run the black power wire under the vehicle, the brake lines provide a decent route to work along. This is shown in the video but not mentioned. It took me about three hours to do this installation but I used heat shrink tubing on the power connections at the converter box and battery. That takes a little longer than just using electrical tape. I also used about three times as many zip ties as were provided. I was probably more detail oriented than I had to be. Someone mechanically/electrically inclined that only has to look at the instructions once could no doubt do it quicker. I did not rate the product excellent mainly because the 4 pole connector should have enough length of wire to be stored in the jack storage compartment adjacent to the taillight. This is a better location than outside exposed to the elements and where it can potentially drag on the ground or get snagged and ripped off if not properly secured under the bumper or to the hitch. As it is, the 4 pole wire is only long enough to route it down behind the bumper. I tried to put it through the jack storage compartment and it isn't quite long enough. Also, Tow Ready skimped on the number and size of zip ties. Should have been more zip ties and a few large ones for use under the bumper. 207422

Great instructions. Recommend watching the video as it adds more to the "how to" than just the print. If you have a 2017 Patriot Sport, the bumpr wraps farther under than the video shows and you will need to cut away more material to get the hitch in place. If you have the factory tow hook and want to re-use it, find a machine shop to drill the holes out to 5/8". Don't waste your time or money on drill bits. This thing is HARD. My machine shop had to sharpen his bit 3 times just to complete the 2 holes. I went through 4 bits and didn't even begin to drill it out. Also be aware that the clip that the bumper bolt goes into for the hook is only set in place and will want to come out inside the frame. It is a pain in the butt to get back in place. Hitch fit great, was actually alittle "loose" making it easy to fit between the frame rails. However, it came right over when the bolts were tightened. Wiring harness is great item. Really plug and play. Other reviews say not enough zip ties. I had a bunch left over. You can run the wire through the frame for a long strech. Be surte to use the "flat" holes as there are a couple with an upward lip that would rub on the wire. Highly recommend this set up. 481994

Etrailer.com was a very easy site to find the right parts needed to fit your specific vehicle. The parts i ordered even have tutorial videos to a how to step by step of the installation which i thought was pretty awesome. The only issue i have that i don't know if its etrailer.com fault, however, this is why im not giving them 5 stars but when i received my shipment today the box was all damaged and torn apart. I made sure to report the delivery as damaged. I still have yet to see if all my parts came in as i am at the hospital with my newborn son. But i will be sure to notify etrailer.com if anything is missing. Other than that i really enjoyed this site. 479510

This thing was super easy to install and works great! The included instructions are straight forward/ easy to understand. That's a huge plus in my book. The kit does require that you run a wire from the positive terminal of the battery then underneath to the rear of the vehicle. This was not a problem as I found there to be plenty of options for securing said wire. I didn't really like the crimp connectors that were included with the product because they are difficult to work with if you do not have the correct tool to crimp them. Luckily my wire strippers had it. If you only have pliers you are going to have a slightly more difficult time crimping the wire to the box under the vehicle. It took me a little over half an hour to complete the project and it worked the first time! Overall, I am very pleased with the product and will return to etrailer.com should I need another one for any future trailer lighting needs. 186475

lights are still working well, i remember the directions being a little fuzzy on which side is which and i ended up putting them on wrong sides, BUT i cut the end off and wired it into a six round with a four/five flat plug, so all i had to do was reverse when i spliced and it turned out fine! Less satisfied with the mounting bracket provided with my six round four/five flat plug, cheap and easily bent. Also the four flat corroded nice and fast with the salt up here in northern WI (even with the cover) as well as the springs for the cover for the six round. 660437

Running the hot lead back through the chassis on a T&C 2008 took a number of hours. The only complaint was that the butt connectors did not hold and I had to use a replacement for the fuse connection and actually solder the lead to the controller box since the wire coming from it was a different size than the positive wire coming from the battery. Once the wire connections were made, the rest of the connectors worked great. One tip, there is a red retainer clip that has to be removed on the tail light assembly. It requires pressing down the tab while pulling on the clip. 656710

Overall a very nice product that does what it says. Just a couple of notes for someone who might have a problem removing the button fasteners on the Jeep Patriot. I found that the buttons do not come out as easily as one would like, here's what to do. Just pry the button out slightly 1/8 in if possible ans squirt some silicon lube behind the button, wait a couple of seconds and now remove the button. Also the a few of the zip ties could have been a lot longer, so I could have gotten them around the factory tow bar running under the tail light area. Had to double up on the zip ties. Still gave the product 5 stars. Corrected my lighting problem while towing my camper. Thank you etrailer and Tekonsha. 604807

Just finished installing the wiring harness and after a little effort, done! I like the perfect plug into my 2008 T&C brake lamps. I like the perfect length of wiring so nothing to cut. I like having plastic ties come with the wiring just so I don't have to hunt for some in my garage. Instructions good but could be a little better. Doesn't come with a plug mount and really think you need to buy one so you dont have the plug just hanging there in the back. The hitch fits the Town and Country from 2008 to 2016, the Dodge Grand Caravan from 2008 to 2018 as well as the Dodge and Ram CV from 2012 to 2015 and the Volkswagen Routan from 2009 to 2014. On the # 13364, there is no drilling required for installation and the exhaust must be temporarily lowered for installation. Trimming of the fascia may be required for hitch installation....

  • High Capacity Trailer Wiring Converter for Trailers with A Lot of Lights
  • The highest rated converter box in terms of amperage capacity is # 119192. It is rated for 4.2 amps for brake and turn signal lights per side and 16 amps for running/tail lights. Since you are using LED lights though the power draw from those lights won't come close to the capacity of this system. This is a powered converter and it can be used on vehicles that have combined stop and turn signal lights. All you would do is ground the red wire with the white wire and use the green wire...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring for 2008 Dodge Caliber
  • The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24769 is the trailer hitch receiver I recommend for your 2008 Dodge Caliber. I've attached a video of this simple bolt on installation for you. All the installation hardware is included with the hitch. For your wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118552 which will connect behind your tail lights and give you a 4-way trailer connector. Once you've...

  • Available Magnetic Type Tow Lights for Flat Towed Vehicle
  • Stop, turn and tail light functions can be provided by basic 4-pole wiring, such as by the trailer wiring harness # 118552 that fits your 2014 Patriot or a flat towing (dinghy) harness that connects the RV lighting signals to the dinghy. If you are looking to add the cargo box lights as supplements to your standard flat tow lighting you will want to consider a few things. First, additional lights will demand more power and so I suggest using high-efficiency LED type lights that will...

  • 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Left Running Light Stays On Even with No Trailer Connected
  • It does sound like there is a problem inside of the converter box for the wiring harness on your 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. To test it you will need a circuit tester such as # 40376 or a meter if you have one. Have someone sit in the vehicle to operate the lights while you test. First test the wires going into the converter box from the vehicle. None should have power when none of the lights are on (except for the power wire on applicable wiring harnesses). If there is power then...

  • Parts Needed to Install a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller on 2014 Jeep Patriot
  • In order to have brake connectivity between your 2014 Jeep Patriot and your trailer, you will first need to install a 4-way connector such as # 118552. The T-one connector plugs directly into your Jeep's existing wiring. I have included installation details and a link to a installation video. You will also need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. The brake controller installation kit includes everything necessary for converting your 4-way connector to...

  • Why is Battery Connection Required to Install Trailer Wiring Harness on 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • On your 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan a powered wiring harness is needed to take the amperage draw off of the vehicle's sensitive wiring. The powered harnesses that connect to the vehicle battery use the battery to power the trailer lights. Curt powered harnesses do tend to put constant power on at least 1 circuit even with the vehicle off. this usually isn't an issue unless something is plugged into the 4-Way and drawing power. Since the Curt harnesses are not working for you I recommend...

  • What is Needed to Tow a M105A2 Military Trailer with a 2013 Dodge Durango
  • To convert your M105A2 military trailer to a 7-blade, I would recommend using the Epicord 7-Way with Junction Box # 277-000141. This makes the conversion simple and you don't have to worry about wiring the connector itself. You'll also need some ring terminals like # 44-5310A and some loom clamps like # A0500. The wires in the junction box are color coded as indicated below. Military wiring is typically not color-coded, so you may need to use a circuit tester like # 40376 and a 12V power...

  • Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Installation in 2012 Dodge Durango Without Factory Trailer Wiring
  • Installation of a trailer brake controller like the excellent Prodigy P3 # 90195 in your 2012 Dodge Durango that did NOT have a factory-installed trailer socket will require hardwiring. Usually the brake controller connection port must be factory-installed; rarely is this something a dealer could install. Although it might be possible, strictly speaking, the labor costs at a dealership would likely be pretty high and make this step prohibitive. Since I do not know what type of wiring...

  • To install a 7-way on your 2008 Chrysler Town and Country you will first need to install the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118552 that you referenced. I attached installation instructions and an installation video for you to check out. If there are not trailer brakes on the trailer you plan on towing you could just use a 4-way to 7-way adapter like a Pollak 7 Pole to 4 Pole Connector Adapter # PK12716 and you would be ready to go. If you have trailer brakes you will need to...

We offer options in both sizes and all will fit your version of the Grand Caravan with Stow-N-Go seats. The link will let you see all options. Then at the very least it can tow 3,000 pounds with 6 to 7 people and luggage in the van. I have included a picture of 2 pages from the owners manual showing the different capacities based on how the vehicle is equipped. • We have everything you will need to install a hitch and brake controller in your 2012 Dodge Durango. First let's start with a hitch. For that I would recommend the Curt # C13182 as it has the best price and best towing capacities. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118552. • Your 2010 Chrysler Town and Country minivan can be equipped with either a 1-1/4-inch Class II or a 2-inch Class III trailer hitch. All options are shown on the link provided. I suggest the Class III hitch # 13364 from Curt; this is the most popular hitch for your vehicle. This 2-inch hitch will offer better compatibility with a broad range of hitch mount accessories like cargo carriers and bike racks, and if you will be towing it will provide higher capacity than the Class II hitches....

  • Which Trailer Wiring Harness for 2011 Dodge Durango
  • If all you will ever tow with your Durango is a small flat-bed or utility trailer with bare-bones lighting with one stop/turn/running light per side, for example, the standard # C56133 would work for you. • Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring For 2011 Dodge Durango
  • Thanks for being a return customer. I will make some recommendations that will work for your 2011 Durango. The trailer wiring harness I recommend for you is the T-One Wiring Harness # 118552. This plugs into the vehicle wiring harness behind the driver and passenger side. You will need to remove the tail lights to get to the harness. You will then need to run a hot lead wire to the positive battery post. To put a 7-way trailer connector on the vehicle you will then need part # ETBC7....

  • Trailer Hitch and Related Towing Items for 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SE Without Tow Package
  • You ask many good questions about towing with your 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan and we certainly can help you. It is perfectly okay to install a trailer hitch on a vehicle that does not have a factory tow package. What matters is that the hitch's and vehicle's weight capacities not be exceeded. The term 'tow package' does NOT always mean exactly the same thing. Various auto makers will use that same terminology for vehicles that differ substantially in their included equipment. For instance,...

The 12 volt power wire from the Curt 7 way adapter should run directly to the vehicle battery via a 40 amp inline circuit breaker, # 9510.
