Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Went super easy. Did it over my lunch break at the shop I work at. Ran a tap through the 4 weld nuts from the factory and everything fit together like it should. Way easier on a lift then on the ground but it can be done.

it works but had to remove fender lights could not handle the load. but I had 22 tail and running lights. they were vary dim. removed fender lights [4 of them] not needed for reg. or inspection. now all 18 are bright as should be. And trailer is legal . fender lights can live with out. now at least I can set on them.

i haven't installed it yet, but i bought a hitch last year for my truck that fit perfectly and everything plugged in as it should. Also, i love the installation videos.

The wiring kit (118494) went together flawlessly, everything hooked up perfectly. I also installed a draw-tite hitch (76028) which also went in flawlessly. This should work great to pull my enclosed trailer and to hook my bicycle rack to. Thanks for a great product.

Only problem I had was the wire going from one brake light to the other brake light wasn’t long enough I had to use about 4 foot of extra wire splicing into it

- 118494

Great, simple product. I was able to hook this wiring harness up, being a first time user, very simply and without any issues.

The wiring kit was an exact fit and installed as expected in my 2017 Equinox.

Communication was excellent on ensuring product availability for timely delivery. Staff was knowledgeable with product and (in my case) available substitution. Some custom modifications were required for actual installation. Finished product is of good quality.

This was fairly easy to install and setup. Within a short time I had connection between my car and the camper

2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Installed on 2010 Chevy Equinox that did not have factory tow package. Spent a little extra on flexible tubing and ran power wire inside tubing from converter to battery. Followed the brake lines from from to rear. Instead of mounting power converter under the vehicle as shown in video and instructions, I mounted the converter in the left side tail light bay. The wire harness to the right side tail light was now too short so spliced in a length of wire and was able to run the right side harness inside the square tubing that the rear bumper attaches to. Also ran the right side harness in flex tubing. For the price, they should add a few feet to the right side harness. Other than that, install was easy.

- 118494

This was a replacement for a harness that I failed to protect with dielectric grease. The connector on the original harness was exposed to road salt and water, so it corroded. My fault. etrailer rep told me about using the protective grease. The new harness was a perfect replacement and went in easily. Back on road again and quickly, too.

- 118494
by:

I definitely rate etrailer. I was able to find exactly what I was looking for on a trailer hitch, ball hitch and electrical harness along with the very helpful videos for the product. I recommend this website and company for those in need for a wide variety of a special design in need for your rig. Thank you etrailer!

I replaced a similar wiring harness because the module had failed. New harness is working great. Installation on an Equinox a bit tricky but doable. As pointed out by other reviewers, wiring length could be a bit longer to help with installation. Suggest buying a tester so do not find out when renting a trailer there is a problem.

Comments
After a year the module replaced is still working great.

Purchase the Curt #56094 (listed as-"Alternate Wiring Harness") instead, don't purchase this one. Check the videos on both. With this one (118494), you have to run a wire all the way from the back of the vehicle to the front and then make a Battery connection. This one costs quite a bit more and isn't worth it. The Curt #56094 is an excellent, quality product that is very quick and easy to install. Save yourself both time and money. Curt trailer products are second to none.

Not enough wire to go from one tail light to the other. Not long enough plug end to go to trailer. A lot of hassle to wire to front power fuse and hard to fit stuff in tail light pocket.

Ask the Experts about this Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Which Trailer Wiring Harness for 2020 Chevy Equinox
The wiring harness you meed will depend on whether or not you have the Premiers sub-model or not. For the Premier, you'd use # 118759 or # 118750 if it's not the Premier model. There's also a third less expensive possibility....if your Equinox has the factory tow package with the connector behind the bumper on the driver's side (see provided photo), you could use # 118285. The # 118494 you'd looked at is for an earlier model Equinox, and wouldn't work on your 2020 model.
