Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118482 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at part #118482. This is the T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector. This unit is going to fit certain years and models of the Toyota Avalon, Venza, and Camry. It's also going to fit certain years and models of the Mitsubishi Outlander. It's going to provide your 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle. That's going to help power your trailer signal lights.

It is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. Those adapters are sold separately. The benefit of this system is it's going to connect quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate the connection points in your rear cargo area. Then you're going to have 2 sets of T-connectors. The side with the green and red wires is going to run to the passenger side of your vehicle, that why it's got a little more wiring, and then the side with the yellow and brown wiring, that's going to run to the driver's side of the vehicle.

The plugs on these T-connectors are going to match up perfectly with the connection points on the vehicle, and they're going to snap lock into one another for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you have that done, you're going to need to make your ground connection, that the white wire right here with the ring terminal attached to it. You can do that to a nice, clean metal surface using the included self-tapping screw. Then you're going to need the run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. Hot leads are going to be the red wire right here. That's going to connect to the bundle of black wire with one of the including butt connectors.

The other end of the black wire's going to run all the way up to the vehicle battery, and it's going to get a butt connector attached to it and connect to half of the fuse holder. The fuse holder's going to have to be cut right there, and one end's going to connect to the bundle of black wire with the butt connector. The other end's going to get the ring terminal attached to it, and that going to attach to the positive post on the vehicle battery. They're going to include some cable ties that way you can secure any excess wires up and out of the way. They're also going to include some double-sided adhesive tape that way you can mount the module light. This product does include the module light to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's.

The powered module's going to connect directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. You're also going to get your 10 amp fuse. It goes right there in the fuse holder, and then the fuse holder has a nice protective cap to close that off. Here on the 4-way flat side, we're going to have a bundle of wiring that way we can extend this out the back of our vehicle and make the connection as needed. It's going to be constructed of 16-gauge bonded wire, and it's going to come with the dust cap for the connector that way we keep this connection point safe when our plug's not being used. Now when it comes to the maximum amperage for this system, for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 2.1 amps per circuit, but for the taillights, we're looking at 5.6 amps per circuit. It's going to come with very detailed instructions, these are going to walk you through the installation process step-by-step, and we're going to recommend that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections, like the plugs on your vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. That's going to help keep out any type of corrosion. That's going to do it for today's review of part #118482. This is the T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector.

Ordered a trailer hitch and wiring for my vehicle. The order was easily filled out and easy to understand. The item shipped quickly and I received them in excellent condition, and quicker than I thought. Had the items installed today and every thing looks and works great. I am totally pleased with this service and I would recommend them to everyone. 376280

Toyota Camry

The instructions that come with it stink. While accurate, they were a bit like putting IKEA furniture together and I was often unsure if they were talking about the Toyota Camry or what I have, the Mitsubishi Outlander. The plugs were super easy to plug in but horrible to get access to. You basically have to remove a ton of plastic interior body pieces just to get to the stinking thing (on the drivers side). As with most of them, running the 12guage wire to the battery was fun as well. I find it hard to believe there isn't any source of 12volt at the rear of the vehicle that you couldn't tap into. All in all, it works but may be worth paying someone else to install for you unless you have a lift and about 4 hours of time to spare. 477245

2011 Toyota Camry

Fit my 2011 Toyota Camry perfectly. I wish that the ground cable would have been slightly longer to reach the factory ground. That being said, there is plenty of space to attach the ground with the supplied self tapping screw. Installation was simple, the only time consuming part is running the main power under the car to the battery (not an issue for hybrid models where battery is in the trunk). Everything tucked away nicely. 258149

A year later this harness is working flawlessly. Being able to store the harness end in the trunk out of the weather has been nice, it looks as new as the day I bought it. I tow with it once a week at least.

This is my 2nd trailer hitch from e-Trailer. I have a small trailer I use to haul brush, furniture & my recumbent bike. I was very pleased with my first hitch, but after getting a new car, I needed another hitch. The quality products and video instructions make it straight forward to install. My kit required a wire to run from the back of the vehicle to the battery in front. The video outlined the best path to route the wire to avoid hot parts or areas where the wire could be damaged. The connection at the battery included a fuse to prevent a electrical fire if somehow the wire got damaged, like in an accident. When I ordered the 2nd hitch, I received an email letting me know the hitch I selected was no longer available within 3 hours of my order. They suggested another hitch to fit my vehicle. Whenever the need for another hitch arises I know the only place I will go, etrailer. 329293

This was truly a great investment! Easy to install. I watched the video that etrailer has on their site and about an hour later I was done with the installation and about another 20 minutes securing the wire to the battery for a (2015 Toyota Venza). Looks great on the vehicle. No altering the rear bumper at all. Thank you etrailer for making this a very simple task. 676976

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander

The product itself seems durable and well crafted. The install is mostly straight forward and easy to do however the instructions are not very great. The videos on the website were not helpful for me as they were not my make and model. The greatest difficulty of the install was the running of the wire to the battery and re installing the trim. In my Mitsubishi Outlander I was not able to find a way to run the wire along the outside nor did I want. I ended up running it along the harness but once I got to the dash I could not find a way to get to the engine bay without having to remove the whole dash which I wasn't going to do. After investigating for an hour to find a hidden pathway I just ran the wire out the door and through the quarter panel. Took me about 4 hours to install. 675029

Mitsubishi Outlander

The wiring kit is complete and installation is foolproof. Once installed it works exactly as it should. If you are installing it in an Outlander PHEV, here are some observations you might find useful: The battery is in the rear of the vehicle and obstructs your exposure to the driver's side wiring. You might want to consider removing the battery entirely so the trim panel can deflected a bit more. The tail light wires have very little slack and the connectors are a bit difficult to pull apart. I found it helpful to remove the lens assemblies from each side and access the wires that way. Simply remove the two screws and firmly pull the entire lens straight back until it releases from the plastic "C" connector. 640705

This worked great. The only thing that was a little bit of a pain was to run the power wire to the battery. I ran it out under the car attached to brake and feul.line area from trunk to battery. It does work good i have a 98 Camry also that didn't need the power wire but at time I have issue with the 98 blowing tail light fuses. This one works great on the same trailer it is a 2 place snow mobile trailer. This one has side lights also 600335

  • Least Visible Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Toyota Venza
I have included a link to the instructions and to a video showing a typical installation of hitch # 75663 so you can see what it would look like when installed. The round tube designs do match the contours of the vehicle better but ultimately on any hitch you will see the cross tube of the hitch at the back of the vehicle. I do recommend the Draw-Tite hitch, # 75663 that you have referenced. It is a popular hitch and the 2 inch receiver is compatible with a lot of accessories. be sure...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation to Use with Draw Tite Hitch for 2013 Toyota Venza
For trailer wiring for your 2013 Toyota Venza you will need to start with a 4-way to provide the turn signal functions. For that you would need the part # 118482. Since you don't have trailer brakes you would then want the part # 37185 to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. To activate the 12 volt accessory circuit you will want to run a length of 10 gauge wire part # 10-1-1 through a circuit breaker like part # 9510 to the positive post of your battery. The wire to use on the # 37185 is the...

  • What is Needed to add Brake Controller to 2009 Toyota Venza?
In order to utilize trailer brakes with your 2009 Toyota Venza there are a few things you would need. To start you'd want to install the 4-pole that you mentioned, the T-One Harness # 118482, if your Venza did not already have a 4-flat. The next thing you'd need would the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7; this kit has the wiring and hardware needed to use a brake controller and 7-way connector, including a 4-pole to 7-pole adapter. For a brake controller...

  • Trailer Hitch Availability for a 2007 Toyota Camry SE
We do have the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36416 that is compatible with your 2007 Toyota Camry SE. This is a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver and it has a 3,500 lb gross trailer weight rating as well as a 300 lb tongue weight rating. When I looked up an online copy of your owner's manual it stated on page 327 that the max amount of trailer weight it can tow is 1,000 lbs and then it also stated that the max tongue weight of your Camry is 100 lbs. Even though the trailer hitch...

  • Options for Carrying Two Hobie Kayaks with a 2009 Toyota Venza
I may have a solution that will allow you to load your Hobie Pro Angler 14 kayak on the roof rack of your 2009 Toyota Venza, but before you select a kayak carrier for your vehicle, I strongly recommend checking the weight capacity of your vehicle's roof. The weight capacity of most vehicle roofs is not very high and this information should be located in your owners manual. It is likely that you will not be able to safely load both kayaks on your roof due to the weight of both kayaks....

  • Installation of Trailer Wiring Harness on 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander
You made really good choices with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118482 and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75888 and I can help you along with the installation of the harness (I also added a link to a video install of the hitch on an Outlander for you to take a look at). I have added a link to the installation instructions of the harness for you, but in general it is not an overly complicated installation. You will need to remove some trim panels at the rear cargo area in order...

  • Tips for Routing a Trailer Wiring Harness Power Wire through the Firewall on a 2010 Toyota Venza
When going through the firewall, there may be an existing wire bundle going through a grommet that you can use to reach the engine compartment on your 2010 Toyota Venza. If you cannot find a suitable factory location to route the wire, you may find that you will need to drill through the firewall. If you do have to drill, use caution not to drill through any components on the other side. Once you have the wire in the engine compartment, route it over to the vehicle battery. Make sure...

  • Power Wire Routing Options When Installing a Wiring Harness # 118482 on a 2009 Lincoln MKS
There should be other places you could attach the wire from the Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118482, underneath your 2009 Lincoln MKS besides the parking brake line. A lot of guys will run the wires through the frame rails or zip-tie the wire to areas that are free from suspension components or hot exhaust parts. If you wanted to find a way to run the wire through your firewall sometimes the holes in the firewall can be difficult to find. A lot of times in the firewall there are...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Not Functioning Properly on 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander
I checked with Tow Ready and they have confirmed that the Harness part # 118482 is a fit for your 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. One thing you should do at this point is test the 4-way of the wiring harness with a circuit tester part # PTW2993 for voltage on all of the right pins when the taillight signals are being applied. Just like in the video I attached. If the voltage checks out there but the trailer lights still don't function right then the problem is on the trailer wiring. That...
