Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

I have pruchee several trailer hitches and products from etrailer over the years and they have always exceeded my expectations with the quality and especially their customer service

2009 Pontiac Vibe

Good unit and the video made the install fairly easy. The hardest part was running the power wire from the battery to the taillights inside the car. Heres a tip. To get the wire into the engine compartment look under the dash on the drivers side. The rubber grommet for the main wiring harness has a small hole located in the 4 Oclokish position. Push the wire through that hole. In the engine compartment look for what looks like a small rubber tube with a rubber cap on it which is part of the grommet. Cut the rubber cap off and push the wire through. To run the wire to the back, place it under the kick panels all the way to the back (this is the same way the tail light harness is routed.). I could probably do it now in about 1/3 of the time having done it once. Good Luck!!

purchased hitch and wire harness , hitch says 1/2 hr had it on and done in less than 15 min .Very easy to install. Wire harness was easy as well just when you run you hot wire from the rear to the battery, start at the battery it's kind of hard to run the wire from under the engine to the top with all the wires and stuff trying to fish through it all when you can just drop it down and start zip tying everything .Did all mine in the drive way and it only took an hour. Love the plug and play w/the lights.
Thanks Etrailer

The video crew at etrailer deserve an award! I watched the video before I placed the order then again right before I went to install. It took me 60 minutes from opening the box to the final test of the lights. Everything was covered in the video and the tips specific to the vehicle were spot on. I've never had anything install that smoothly. Thanks video team, you rock!

by:

not a bad little deal, everything fit good! went by youtube vid took me about 5 hours all total plugged ln trailer everything worked!!!! .did not have a lift ,so could have been much quicker, will definitely buy more stuff from etrailer if needed!

T-One Wiring Harness w 4 Pole Trailer ConnectorT-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector - 118460
The instructions with this are practically worthless as they refer to tiny little black and white pictures which are very hard to see. (A link to a website would have been appreciated.) I elected to run the 12 volt feed from the battery under the car. I brought the wire into the trunk area via the little rubber drain plug under the spare so I wouldn't have to drill though the floor. The white ground wire should be about 16" longer then you could use an existing ground screw which appears when you remove the back threshold. (You need to remove the threshold anyway to run the cable to the right tail light.) I spliced about 16" of wire into the white wire using some splices I had lying around and a piece of the black wire which was longer than I needed. The instructions apparently want you to hang the trailer wiring connector out the hatch and close the hatch on it. As all Matrix owners know the weatherstripping on the Matrix is very poor and not wanting to make it any worse I ran the connector down through the drain hole. A little duct tape to close the hole and protect the wires and it was done. Probably took about an hour. There was a link to a video on installing the wiring that was sent with a request for a review. Unfortunately I did not see it before I did the work but it's just as well as my way was actually quicker. You can feed the cable from the tail light opening down through to the spare tire well without taking off the side panels. Just remove the spare to give yourself some room to get an arm in the hole.

This wiring harness was easy to install and has held up just fine after one year. One thing to complain about is the double sided tape that is provided didn't hold up after one year....but If that's all I have to complain about - I say that I got a pretty good product. Thanks.

by:
Ford Edge

This installs easy, even though I had installed another model previously, its a no brainer. Main work is removing the side panels to get to the light wiring and then running a power wire to the battery. Finding a hole in the wheel well isn't hard, but then you have to get on your back and run it under your car and up through the engine which is not hard, just takes time and your on your back on the ground or on a creeper. Plugging into your lights isn't hard, just the running the power wire which I ran along the bottom edge of my frame close to the doors.

by:
2013 Scion xB

Received the product and found the instructions to be difficult to read. Fortunately there were visions on You Tube that provided excellent instructions on how to install the wiring harness. The unit was fairly easy to install and works well.

by:
2009 Pontiac Vibe

Product was easily installed. The only challenge was running the power line from the battery to the unit in back. I don't have a lift, and a Vibe is a low profile auto. I'm glad that I'm fairly thin!

The written instructions are fairly good. I had access to an online video of installation which added much to clarity of installation.

Overall a very good product!

by:

Longest part of installing this was running the wire from the back to the battery, but it wasn't hard. Rented a trailer the same day and everything worked perfectly. The step by step video took all the mystery out of how to install it, so it just went in quickly.
The only thing I would caution anyone about is to have a few extra zip ties available because it's a long run under the car to the battery terminal.

by:
2009 Pontiac Vibe

Called at 1pm, pushed them to ship same day arrived next day!!! EXCELLENT service and support. I bought from etrailer because of the detailed installation videos, low cost and a fitment for my 'discontinued' 2009 Pontiac Vibe . The packaging of the parts in the box is nicely done and I appreciate the parts at least being made/assembled in Mexico (North America) not China.

by:
2009 Pontiac Vibe

This harness is great. Install went as per instructions, hides away when not in use, and my turn signals worked as before with no "fast" flashing from overload. Great product.

by:
2010 Pontiac Vibe

It took me about four hours, but I decided to flow a factory wiring harness along the interior on the drivers side. I had to remove several panels and then put them back on when done.
The harness works flawlessly.

by:
2010 Pontiac Vibe

Unless the car is on a hoist, running the wiring is harder than shown on the video. Unplugging the connectors is also harder than shown on the video, but it is a good quality product.

by:
2013 Scion xB

Product arrived on time and installed perfectly on my 2013 Scion xB. The installation video provided on etrailer's website was very helpful in making the install go so smoothly. Thanks etrailer!

by:

good directions,a bit more work than otherwire harnesses as you need to bring a feed from battery to trunk, all needed parts are included although you might want a few more zip ties.

by:
2010 Toyota Matrix

Plug and go, patience is required to find way through gasket in fire wall otherwise was very simple. Well worth buying this kit as opposed to trying to wire up something yourself for sure. Will buy again when I get another vehicle.

by:

Great product! Watch the video before starting the installation to make things easier on yourself. Does take some time to route the power wire to the engine compartment.

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2012 Scion XB
I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118460 for 2012 Scion XB. The Tekonsha brand converter boxes tend to last a bit longer compared to the other brands in our experience.

  • What Parts Are Needed To Tow A Trailer With A 2010 Toyota Matrix
If you plan on towing a trailer then wiring and a ball mount would be necessary as well. For the wiring you'll need the Tekonsha T-One Wire Harness # 118460. For the ball mount you'll need to know the ball size for the coupler (1-7/8, 2", 2-5/16") and how much of a rise or drop is needed. I've attached a link below to a help article that will walk you through the measuring process for the correct rise or drop. The wiring harness # 118460 that you referenced is a correct fit for your 2010 Toyota Matrix and it sounds like your trailer's clearance lights are dimming when you press the brake pedal. When this happens the cause is often a weak ground connection which is easy to correct. What you can do is disconnect the white ground wire's ring terminal from the grounding point. Sand and clean that spot so that you have exposed clean bare metal that is free of paint, primer, undercoat, rust and grease....

That does not mean you can't tow with the 1.8L engine, but we have to recommend sticking with what the owner's manual says, so the decision to tow would be up to you. If you decide to two, the trailer hitch I recommend for the 2012 Toyota Matrix is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver...

  • Can Trailer Wiring Harness Power Wire be Connected to Running Light Wire Instead of Battery
When properly installed a powered wiring harness such as # 118460 will have power going to it all the time but not power coming out all the time because of the circuitry inside the converter box. The tail light wiring on a vehicle is only rated for so much draw. By connecting the power wire to that circuit all of the trailer lights and vehicle running lights would be drawing on the one circuit and could overload it. Any deviations from the instructions would result in a void warranty...
