Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118450 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118450. This is the Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. This part is a custom-fit part number. It is designed to fit the 2008 to 2012 Buick Enclave, all models, the 2009 to 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, all models and the 2008 to 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, excluding the LTZ version. It does come with everything shown here on the table, comes with the wiring harness, set of detailed instructions, some zip ties and a grounding screw. This will provide a four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It does connect quickly and easily.

There's no cutting or splicing of wires. They use these plug-in T connectors. Basically, you just locate the connection points behind the tail lights on your vehicle, plug these in to behind your tail lights on each side, ground this wire, run this out the back and you'll be ready to plug in to your trailer. The wire for the four-way is a 16-gauge bonded wire. The four-way, you can see, comes with this nice rubber dust cap that you can put right over it when you're not using it to protect it from any damage and from the elements. The specs on this harness, the maximum amperage is 7.5 amps per circuit. Basically, when you go to install this, what you'll do is go to the back of the vehicle and behind the driver's side and the passenger side tail lights, what you'll do is access them and unplug the connectors and then these would T right in.

You just plug this in to the tail light and this to the harness. What you do is start with this one, this has the yellow wire in it, that's the driver's side. You also have this extra white wire that you want to connect to a good clean ground on the vehicle and, again, they do give you a grounding screw if you need to drill a hole and make one. Then what you'll do is take this other T connector with the green wire, this runs over to the passenger side, so you run this all the way over to the passenger side and do the same thing behind the tail light, plug this in to the harness. Then just run your length of bonded wire back in the back of the car. Run this out of the car when you need to plug it into the trailer.

When you're not using it, you can store it inside the vehicle. Again, it comes with some zip ties that will take up any extra slack in the wire, and it comes with, again, this nice set of detailed instructions that would show a lot of the points where you're going to be connecting it to. That should do it for the review of part number 118450, the Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. .

etrailer staff went out of their way to get the shipment shipped out late tuesday. arrived Friday evening. The installation video made the installation a snap. Installed in about 30 minutes by removing the taillight lenses and cafefully routing wires away from exaust and tie-wrapped to hitch. First quality wiring kit for 2010 Chevy traverse. Saved time and money. I am very pleased and will make eTrailer my first call for my trailer needs. I couldn't be happier. 114314

eTrailer totally rocks! !! First of all, I only discovered your website as a result of trying to price a wiring harness for my vehicle. I had gone to the local store to get an estimate for installing a wiring harness on my 2010 Chevy Traverse, and was appalled that they wanted to charge me $79.99 for the wiring harness and then $100 labor!!! I couldn’t believe it – and went home and googled wiring harnesses, and I found your website among the search results. Right there on the page for my wiring harness was a 4-minute video with beautifully detailed instructions for how to install the harness on my vehicle. Without hesitation, I ordered the part from your website, and days later I had it delivered to my door. I recently had knee surgery, so I enlisted the help of my 12-year-old daughter, who, after watching your instructional video, was ready to go... In no time at all, she had the wiring harness completely installed. Not only did she gain a sense of accomplishment, she also gained $10 to add to her piggy bank. THANK YOU eTRAILER! I will be recommending you to everyone! 47299

2009 Buick Enclave

Pretty easy to install and route through the openings in the fender. For me, and my 2009 Buick Enclave, no holes were needed to be drilled. The only problem I had was fitting the excess wire in the tail light housing. But with a few pieces of tape to hold the connectors in place, all fit well. 660374

I purchased both a receiver hitch , Item # 75528 and the wiring harness. The hitch install would be like medium difficulty in my opinion! It required to drop the dual exhaust pipes so that you can move your tools in and around the hitch. Honestly it took several hours to loosen the rust that had build up throughout the years using wd40 and other things, so that the bolts that the hitch required for the install would fit! If it had been a new car with no rust, install would have been a breeze. The wiring harness, unfortunately, I misread the link the hitch recommended me to purchase! I called etrailer, girl said, It was a harness for a pre-existing manufacturers harness and so I had to replace it at my own expense! They recognized the issue and ordered the correct part. I received the new harness! It requires you to remove both rear break lamp housings! Got harness ran, when I realized the harness was short! I kept adjusting and checking to see if it was caught on something, but everything was fine. I got a revelation! The harness has cable ties wrapped around several areas of the harness! It comes like that from the manufacturer. I decided to cut one cable tie off and it stretch enough to reach the 2nd lamp housing. I used extra long cable ties, not supplied by supplier!, and tied any access harness to the tow hitch so that it isn’t hanging everywhere. But all in all it looks nice. Time consuming but nice. 656175

Hitch and wiring harness arrived well packed and complete. The installation went great, exactly like the instructions and completed in less than an hour! Used it the next day with no problems. This is a great addition for my Buick Enclave allowing us to do minor hauling around home and added storage space on trips. The quality of the hitch exceeded expectations, good work! 641608

Plug and play. Works great. At first I thought it would be inside the trunk, but all the Malibu wiring is on the outside, so it will be exposed to the weather and I will have to secure it somehow under the bumper. I will eventually add some flex loom to protect it and some silicone grease in the plug to keep it from corroding. 595239

Excellent product and great videos. Easy installation. Had my local trailer rental place do the installation which took about an hour $70.00 labor. Still cheaper than getting the hitch and wiring from them and most likely not as good a quality. 582482

The harness installed as advertised. My son and I took the extra time (even with the 98 degree heat index that day!) to use a fish tape to route the wiring so it was hidden very nicely and away from most of the potential rubbing areas. Any place that looked like it might be an issue was wrapped up with electrical tape. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP IN ORDERING ALL THE PARTS OVER THE PHONE! 567380

Ordered a hitch for my 2012 Buick Enclave in August of 2017. The fit was perfect. I also ordered the wiring harness adapter. The wiring and hitch installation took less than 2 hours. It's so nice when you receive the right part and it installs easily and effectively. This worked on my 2011 Buick Enclave perfectly. When I went to pick up the trailer and the left turn signal didn't work, I thought it was a bad installation or product, since the trailer is used often and well maintained, but it turned out the trailer wiring was bad, not mine! 524798

2008 Buick Enclave - Trailer Wiring Kit - My vehicle had a tow hitch but no wiring When I purchased years ago. Install completed by 60 yr old female - was a bit hesitate to order online since I was clueless as to what I needed or how to install. Watched video looked “dummie proof”. Took a chance , kit arrived in reasonable time, was as simple as was depicted in video. 20-30 minutes , screwdriver and I had it installed, ready to tow. I am thrilled to have a product that is true to advertising. As most of us have experienced, not all companies are honest in their marketing. etrailer has earned my respect and humble gratitude for being an honest and reputable company and I will not hesitate to use again and also refer to friends and colleagues . Thank you, May God continue to bless you! 517520

I searched all over town for this product and no one had it, even the dealership wanted to charge me $1000 to hook it up. This part was inexpensive, easy to purchase and verify it would fit my car. One hiccup is the written instructions and the online video gave slightly different instructions which caused a little grief, otherwise very content. 468517

Easy to install, clear directions and works perfectly. I would only suggest working the directions backwards. Comnect the passenger side first and feed the wires / connectors down through the body panels and then over to the driver side last. Reason is the muffler on the 2010 (single muffler) makes it very difficult to feed the wiring upward vs downward. 459372

  • Parts Needed To Add A 7-Way To The Chevy Traverse
  • Yes, I will be happy to help add a tow package to your 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. First, you will need 4-way Flat Trailer Connector # 118450. The purpose of this item is to control and allow the basic hookup of the three lighting functions (running, turn, and brake lights) plus one pin is provided for a ground wire. Most standard light duty trailers will use a 4-pole flat connector. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Chevrolet Traverse's wiring harness, which is located behind...

I am not sure what factory plug you found but when I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha he said that there was a change from the 2012 to 2013 Traverse models which is why the wiring kit # 118271 won't fit the 2012 model. If you send me a pic of the connector that you found I can try to help you identify...

I attached a video that shows it installed on a similar 2011 Traverse for you to check out as well. If you have the factory tow package the car will have a round U.S. Car connector under the rear bumper that will accept a 4-pole plug-in harness # 118384 or a combination 7-way/4-pole harness like # HM40975. After the 4-Way is installed to add a 7-Way you would either need adapter # 37185 (if you do not need the electric brake or 12 volt functions to work on the trailer), and plug in the...

  • Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendations for a 2012 Chevy Traverse
  • For your 2012 Chevy Traverse I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75528. This is the most popular hitch for your Traverse. It is a Class III trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening. The 2 inch receiver is going to have a higher capacity and be compatible with more accessories compared to lower class hitches. I have included a link to a video showing installation of the hitch for you. For owners of the 2012 Traverse the most popular carrier is Pro Series carrier # 63153. This carrier...

  • Transmission Cooler for 2011 Chevy Traverse
  • I would start by determining the towing capacity of the vehicle. I did some research, and saw a range of 2000-5200 lbs depending on how the vehicle was equipped. If you phone your Chevy dealer, they should be able to tell you the towing capacity of your Traverse based on its VIN. If you find that the fully loaded and ready to tow weight of the boat and trailer does not exceed the towing capacity of the vehicle, the only other thing I would consider essential would be an aftermarket transmission...

  • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2009 Chevy Malibu
  • I checked an online copy of the owners manual for the 2009 Chevy Malibu and the vehicle is rated for 1,000 pounds. I cannot recommend towing anything heavier than that. I would take what you have been told with a grain of salt. What you should do is follow the procedures specified in the owners manual. Paddle shifters on an automatic rarely work like you would want them to. Often times they result in a hard shift or delayed shift which can negatively affect ride quality plus it is one...

  • How to Wire a Trailer Connector Harness on a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
  • If your 2009 Chevy Malibu is not an LTZ model, you do not have to hard wire the connector. You can use a T-Connector style harness, part # 118450, and connect to the connectors at the back of the tail lights. If you do have an LTZ model you will have to hardwire your Malibu using something like part # 119179KIT. We have a video of the installation of a similar part on a 2004 Malibu that will walk you through the process. Due to the body change in 2008 and up models, the wiring may be...
