Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

All right. Today on this 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, were going to install part number 118450 from Tow-Ready. Okay, our first step involved is open up the hatch and remove the taillights. After we remove the taillights, well go ahead and disconnect them from the wiring harness. Now we can go ahead and start installing the T1 harness. Well take the 4-pole harness and run it down between the body work and the bumper cover and out the bottom.

Well also do the same thing with the T-connector with the green wire. With the white wire, well leave that up by the taillight and plug that into the wiring harness and well also ground the white wire with the ring terminal to the body as well. Well take the 4-pole wire harness and the T-connector with the green wire and well pull it out the bottom of the vehicle. Then well go ahead and route the 4-pole harness over to the center of the hitch. Well also take the T-connector with the green wire and run that all the way across and up to the taillight on the other side.

Okay, when we run our wire to the passenger side, were going to use a piece of tubing or you can use a piece of wire to help it pull back up through. Okay. With our wires run up through both sides now, we can go ahead and reinstall the taillights. Now, well go back underneath to secure our wires. Okay, if our wire's secured, thatll finish it for our install of part number 118450 from Tow-Ready on our 2009 Chevrolet Traverse..

2010 Chevrolet Traverse

eTrailer totally rocks! !! First of all, I only discovered your website as a result of trying to price a wiring harness for my vehicle. I had gone to the local store to get an estimate for installing a wiring harness on my 2010 Chevy Traverse, and was appalled that they wanted to charge me $79.99 for the wiring harness and then $100 labor!!! I couldn’t believe it – and went home and googled wiring harnesses, and I found your website among the search results. Right there on the page for my wiring harness was a 4-minute video with beautifully detailed instructions for how to install the harness on my vehicle. Without hesitation, I ordered the part from your website, and days later I had it delivered to my door. I recently had knee surgery, so I enlisted the help of my 12-year-old daughter, who, after watching your instructional video, was ready to go... In no time at all, she had the wiring harness completely installed. Not only did she gain a sense of accomplishment, she also gained $10 to add to her piggy bank. THANK YOU eTRAILER! I will be recommending you to everyone! 47299

2011 Buick Enclave

It works just as intended on 2011 Buick enclave. Watching video on etrailer.com was very helpful on installing it. Just a note to anyone that does. Fishing the wires through the c channel in bumper is a pain. I ended up using a clothes hanger to pull them through. 664575

2009 Buick Enclave

Pretty easy to install and route through the openings in the fender. For me, and my 2009 Buick Enclave, no holes were needed to be drilled. The only problem I had was fitting the excess wire in the tail light housing. But with a few pieces of tape to hold the connectors in place, all fit well. 660374

I purchased both a receiver hitch , Item # 75528 and the wiring harness. The hitch install would be like medium difficulty in my opinion! It required to drop the dual exhaust pipes so that you can move your tools in and around the hitch. Honestly it took several hours to loosen the rust that had build up throughout the years using wd40 and other things, so that the bolts that the hitch required for the install would fit! If it had been a new car with no rust, install would have been a breeze. The wiring harness, unfortunately, I misread the link the hitch recommended me to purchase! I called etrailer, girl said, It was a harness for a pre-existing manufacturers harness and so I had to replace it at my own expense! They recognized the issue and ordered the correct part. I received the new harness! It requires you to remove both rear break lamp housings! Got harness ran, when I realized the harness was short! I kept adjusting and checking to see if it was caught on something, but everything was fine. I got a revelation! The harness has cable ties wrapped around several areas of the harness! It comes like that from the manufacturer. I decided to cut one cable tie off and it stretch enough to reach the 2nd lamp housing. I used extra long cable ties, not supplied by supplier!, and tied any access harness to the tow hitch so that it isn’t hanging everywhere. But all in all it looks nice. Time consuming but nice. 656175

Ask the Experts about this Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Parts Needed To Add A 7-Way To The Chevy Traverse
Yes, I will be happy to help add a tow package to your 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. First, you will need 4-way Flat Trailer Connector # 118450. The purpose of this item is to control and allow the basic hookup of the three lighting functions (running, turn, and brake lights) plus one pin is provided for a ground wire. Most standard light duty trailers will use a 4-pole flat connector. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Chevrolet Traverse's wiring harness, which is located behind...

  • How to Install a 7-Way Connector on a 2012 Chevy Traverse
If you don't already have a wiring connector on your 2012 Chevy Traverse then that means you don't have the tow package and you need to install a 4-Way wiring harness and an adapter for a 7-Way. I am not sure what factory plug you found but when I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha he said that there was a change from the 2012 to 2013 Traverse models which is why the wiring kit # 118271 won't fit the 2012 model. If you send me a pic of the connector that you found I can try to help you identify...

  • Troubleshooting Running Light Function on 2005 Boat Trailer Issue
When the running lights don't work on one side of the trailer, you want to start at the ground wire connections. Often the lights are grounded to the trailer frame through the mounting hardware so you want to check each light and make sure the light is grounded correctly. Often they are chained together so a bad ground on the front end of that chain may keep power from getting further. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2992 to test if power is getting to each light. If not,...

  • Troubleshooting Left Side Trailer Running Lights that are Not Working
The first thing you'll want to do is determine if the problem is with the new wiring harness on your 2008 Buick Enclave or on your trailer. Both sides of the tail and marker lights run on the brown wire. Since you have only one side working the problem is most likely with the trailer. Use a circuit tester, like # 40376, and test each contact on the new 4-pole connector. If they all pass then check the wiring on your trailer. I would start by inspecting the trailer's connector, making...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2015 Chevrolet Traverse
Not all vehicles can handle the additional amperage draw of the trailer taillights on the vehicle taillight circuits. Those vehicles need setup that draws power from the battery. Some vehicles have higher rated circuits that can handle this, and others need to have the power drawn straight from the battery to protect the taillight circuits. For your 2015 Chevy Traverse you need to install a harness that draws power from the battery to protect the taillight circuits. For that you would...

This is a very strong hitch that will meet your towing needs. • How to Install 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller on a 2011 Buick Enclave
How you'll proceed will depend on if the trailer has brakes or not. Usually, the fact that a trailer uses a 7-way indicates that the trailer has brakes but that's not always the case. If the trailer doesn't have brakes, you'll first install the # 118450. This provides easy access to the taillight circuits without needing to cut and splice into any wiring. You'll then install the # 37185 adapter that will convert the 4-pole to a 7-way connector. The adapter will plug directly into the...

In addition to this you will need a 7-way. You can use part # 37185 from Hopkins; the 4-pole flat connector from the harness will plug directly into the Hopkins 7-way, which includes a mounting bracket. The 7-way will then carry the lighting signals from the vehicle. If the trailer has electric brakes instead...

  • Parts Needed to Install an Electric Trailer Brake Controller on a 2009 Chevy Traverse
The 7-Way RV style trailer connector is more common than a 6-Way. The 6-Way will not have a reverse light/accessory circuit pin. They both will have stop, tail, turn, 12 volt, brakes, and ground circuits. I recommend a 7-Way since it is the more common connector. But if the trailer has a 6-Way connector, then it would be better to go with a 6-Way on the vehicle as well. In order to install a brake controller on your 2009 Chevy Traverse, there are a few parts you will need. If the vehicle...

The instructions are a little confusing because it doesn't actually say that you ground the white wire on the right. For starters, you will need to inspect the pins inside of each connector that goes to the taillight to ensure they are not bent or broken. If they are then this is what is likely causing the short.
