Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. If extra length is needed, you can cut the zip tie on the passenger side harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today on our 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee we're going to review and install the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118425. Now to begin our install we're first going to open up the rear hatch. We need to remove both rear taillight assemblies. Each taillight assembly is secured with two fasteners. These are push pin fasteners so we're going to pry the center of the fastener out and then remove it completely. Just using a flat-bladed screwdriver, we get underneath that center, just work it out.

Note: if you have an interior trim panel tool, that can help to get underneath the head of the fastener, prying it out. Once you have it pried out, you can remove the whole fastener. There's the second fastener. Now with both fasteners removed we can go ahead and remove the taillight assembly. Note: there are fasteners underneath securing it like a couple alignment pins. To make it easier, you could use a flat-bladed screwdriver, or we've got a plastic trim panel tool to get underneath the front age to pull it back.

Now as I get my tool in between the body and taillight we'll just wiggle it to help pop it free. Once we have it freed up, we'll go ahead and pull it away from the body of the vehicle. Now once we have it pulled away from the body of the vehicle you can see here two alignment pins. Now we have the manufacturer's wiring that goes into the back of the taillight sockets. We're going to go ahead and remove the connectors. Here we have a red locking tab so we'll pull up on the locking tab, releasing the connector, pressing on the connector lock, and then removing it from the socket.

Here on the smaller gray socket there's a black locking tab. We'll go ahead and press on the connector lock and then remove it from the socket. Now I can go ahead and set the taillight aside for reinstallation later. Now I'll move over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. Now with both taillight assemblies out of the way we can start installing our new Tow Ready wiring harness. The yellow and brain wire connector will be here on the driver side and needs to get fed up behind the rear fascia and ultimately behind the taillight assembly.

To help get our wire into place we're going to use a pull wire, which could be a stiff piece of wire, in this case we're going to use a piece of air tubing, feeding it behind the rear fascia, down underneath the vehicle. Now we have access to it here at the bottom. We'll go ahead and take some black electrical tape and secure the t-connector to our pull wire. Once we have it secured we'll use the pull wire to bring our wiring harness up behind the rear taillight assembly. Next we'll go ahead and remove the t-connector from our pull wire and connect to the manufacturer's harness. Connectors will match up so we can plug directly into it, making sure we got a good connection, then resecure the locking tab. Now with my connect made I'm going to go ahead and bundle up the wires here behind the taillight and use a zip tie to secure them. Once we have it secure, just going to cut off the excess of the zip tie, clean up the install look, and get it out of our way. Next we'll go ahead and and reconnect the manufacturer's wiring, lock it down, and take the other side of our t-connector and plug into the back of the taillight socket and lock it down. We're now ready to go ahead and reinstall the taillight assembly. Pop the taillight assembly back into place and then reinstall the fasteners. Now with both fasteners reinstalled, we're going to move underneath the vehicle and start routing the green and white wire connector over to the passenger side and then up behind the passenger side taillight assembly just like we did here on the driver side. Quick tech tip: keep in mind when routing your wires to stay away from any moving components such as steering or suspension, or excessive heat such as the exhaust. As we route the green wire connector, we're also going to take our 4-pole connector and run it towards the center of the vehicle, and ultimately to the hitch. We'll take both connectors here, route them over the bumper structure. Then to help secure the wiring I'm going to route it behind the rear fascia bracket. This will help secure the wires, keep them out of the way, and give us something to zip tie to. The 4-pole connector is going to go around the second bracket and then back towards our hitch. We can use the cap on our 4-pole connector to help hold it to the chain hold down. Good place to store it when not in use. Now our green and white wire connectors that's going to the passenger side. We'll keep going behind the fascia bracket. Then I'll send it up and over the bumper structure. By going over the bumper structure it helps me avoid the exhaust and gets it into position where we can attach it to our pull wire. Our pull wire on the passenger side will be a basic repeat of the same thing we did on the driver side. Now we'll go ahead and pull our wiring harness up. Now we're going to have one additional connection here on the passenger side. That's going to be the white wire with the pre-attached ring terminal. This is going to be the ground wire for our new 4-pole trailer connector. Using the self-tapper supplied with our install kit, we can take the ring terminal and attach it directly to the body of the vehicle. Note: I recommend to find a location like this one where the sheet metal doubles up for a good secure ground. Now once we've got a good secure ground we'll go ahead and take the t-connector, plug into the manufacturer's wiring, lock it down. Then we'll zip tie our excess wiring. I like to keep a nice install look and it helps keep the wiring out of the way when we reinstall the taillight assembly. Plug our connectors back in and then reinstall the taillight assembly. Now with the passenger side taillight assembly reinstalled we'll go ahead and move underneath the vehicle and secure our wiring as necessary. Now with our Tow Ready harness installed we're going to go ahead and test the new 4-pole trailer connector. We'll take the ground clamp of our test light and put it on the white wire terminal, testing the next terminal over, which will be the brown wire terminal. That's going to be our running light circuit. Then the yellow wire terminal's going to be the driver side turn signal and brake. The green wire terminal is going to be the passenger side turn signal and brake. Now that we know our new 4-flat trailer connector works, we're ready to hit the road. That will do it for our review and install of our Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number 118425, on our 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. .

Easy to install, works great. Suggestion: watch the video rather than use the included instructions, if possible. The instructions are fine, but the video shows where to route the wires through the bumper. After reading the suggestions in the reviews, I snipped one of the wire ties holding the two cable sets together to make sure I had enough cable length to stretch over to the passenger side. Make sure you have a couple of coat hangers or heavy wire to fish the wires through your bumper pipe. Even though person in the video was able to install the ground screw without drilling a pilot hole, I was not able to, so I needed to drill a pilot hole to get it started. 120983

The harness works great. I upgraded it to a round 7-wire harness with electric brakes. No need to discard this kit, it simply powers the lights while a new wire powers the brakes on the new 7-wire connector.

Only complaint would be that the wiring is a little short which makes it hard to get the ground wire up through the passenger side slot to install. I stretched the wire as tight as possible to try and get it to work but never could. So i ended up grounding it underneath the jeep instead of in the tail light assembly on the sheet metal. need to make the whole harness about 6-8 inches longer and it would be an easy install 457436

The product is very easy to install. For those with comments about the wires being too short to get to the passenger side, all you have to do is cut a zip tie on the harness and there is more than enough wire supplied. Installation took about 30 minutes and the video on the website is excellent. The shipping and notification procedures with e-trailer are great. It's a pleasure doing business with them. 62962

Perfect product and transaction all around!! Other reviews said wiring was a bit short but cutting a zip tie would help wire length. Worked perfectly. Install was a breeze and went just as smooth as the video provided for my Jeep. Also bought the trailer hitch as well. Installing both took less than 30 mins. If, like me, you were worried about quality because the price is so low. Worry not!!! The quality is there. The inflated price is not. Welds on hitch are good and powder coating is flawless. Wiring is plug and play. (pun intended) If your thinking about buying. STOP. Just buy it and you will be as pleased as I was. ~2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee~ 315683

When installing this on my GC I ran the wiring like the video showed however what it did not show was that you needed to clip most of the zip ties. If you dont the wiring harness is too short. I had to pull it back out and clip the zips then it worked fine VERY FRUSTRATING.. for something that was otherwise very simple 559988

Comments

Yes, the zip ties needs to be cut to release the extra length of wire. The zipties are basically for packing and shipping purposes.

Good product with quality connections. My only negative comment is that the wiring could be about 2"-4" longer for my application (2007 Grand Cherokee). The wires were just too short in overall length and made the installation longer than it needed to be. I did get it in, but almost had to remove the rear bumper to make everything fit perfectly. All in the harness works great - install was just a pain as things were tight. 191962

Comments

Works fine - Couldve been 4 longer so it would give a smidge of slack. Pain to install

I bought this for my Cherokee because we bought a boat and didn't realize my wife's Acadia couldn't pull it out of the water (front wheel drive). My Cherokee didn't have a tow package, so I added this and the Curt receiver. The instructions were easy to follow and the product works great! Thanks for fast service from the folks at etrailer! 703291

I purchased this wiring kit from etrailer rather than the giant store that's named after a large river. Yea, I spend a few dollars more from etrailer and didn't get it the very next day but I'd rather give etrailer my business due to their customer service and information. The wiring kit was super easy to install. My only concern is that the wiring harness from tail light to tail light was just long enough. There was no slack in the wire that went along the bumper. An additional inch or two would have been welcome. 696182

I clipped some of the wire ties and ran the wiring harness. Then noticed how the wiring could possibly feel the effects of the tailpipe. I re-ran the passenger side of the harness. I know that several people commented on the length of the wires. However, when I re-ran the harness, I ran the passenger side over the frame and then up to the light and there was plenty of wiring to spare. Working good so far! 654996

2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I originally ordered a wiring harness for my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee because my vehicle has a tow package. I installed the hitch and the wiring and only the running lights would work. I took the Jeep to the dealer and $125 later they still had no idea as to what the problem was. I picked up my Jeep and ordered this wiring harness that snaps in place with the tail lights. A couple days later the part was delivered and it took me (at most) 45 minutes to install and it works perfectly. Not only is etrailer an amazing company to work for, but they offer options that truly save you significant money. 518639

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Hitch That Fits a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
  • Each of the hitches you mentioned, the Curt # 13251 and Draw-Tite # 75338 will fit a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo; the only models they will not fit are the SRT-8. I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 75338 because it has a tongue weight capacity of 750 lbs, which is 250 lbs more than the Curt hitch. I've added a photo showing how this hitch looks on a Laredo for you to take a look at. To add a 4-way connector you will need wiring harness # 118425 if your Jeep does not have...

  • Adding a Brake Controller to a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • I'd be happy to help clear up any confusion; because you do not have the factory tow package you are going to need to install a few parts in order to use an electric brake controller. You will need to start by adding the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118425. From there you'll need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7, which will give you the 7-pin connector to allow you to use your trailer's electric brakes. Finally,...

I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118425 as we have found Tekonsha to be one of the most reliable wiring companies that we carry. To have 7-Way and 4-Way connectors on your Jeep you also need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This connects to the T-One and give you both connections that you need. I've attached a helpful article with instructions on how to do this. Essentially, you will need three things to set up your trailer brakes: a 4-pole connector, a 7-way installation kit, and a brake controller. One wire from your 7-way connector will run to your Jeep's battery to supply power to the connector, and another wire...

The installation is the same on both of them. I am including links to the instructions on both of the hitches and videos of both of the hitches being installed on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The main difference between the two hitches is the # 75338 will have a higher gross trailer weight capacity (GTW) and maximum tongue weight capacity...

  • 2008 Grand Cherokee 4-Way and 7-Way Recommendation
  • You would need to first start with a 4-way for your 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. For that you would need the part # 118425. Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. If you do have trailer brakes you would need a brake controller and the # ETBC7 instead of the # 37185. This kit comes with everything needed to wire up the 7-way and install a brake controller. For a brake controller I would recommend...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendations for a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • If your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have the round factory plug behind the rear bumper for a trailer connector (see photo), then the parts that you listed will work. Before you proceed, I recommend checking for the factory trailer plug behind your bumper again because we found that Jeep included this plug on some models that did not have the factory tow package. If you have this plug, then you can use our Multi-Tow Trailer Connector, # 74682, instead of the 4-way wiring harness and...

  • The most popular hitch receiver for your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is the 2-inch Class III hitch # 13251 from Curt. This installs without drilling, as do all other available hitches that you can see on the linked page. This hitch fits all GC models expect the SRT-8. This 2-inch Cass III hitch gives you a higher capacity than smaller 1-1/4-inch types but also costs less than other Class III hitches. All required mounting hardware is included and an installation video is linked as...

  • Installation of Brake Controller on a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • The Tekonsha Brake Control Adapter, part # 3045-P is for 2011 and newer Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory 7-Way. It will not work on your 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee is not pre-wired with a brake controller port for installation of a brake controller. To install a brake controller on your 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory 7-Way you will need to do a little hard wiring. I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and he stated that the only wire Jeep provides...

  • Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring Harness for 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • My contact at TowReady advises that harness # 118425 will not work on the 2014 model year due to the new tail lights but suitable harness options can be seen on the linked page. All are intended for vehicles that have the factory tow package. You can choose 4-pole or 5-pole flat type connectors or a round RV-style 7-way/4-pole combination like # HM40975 which is illustrated in the linked video.

  • Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • If your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is in need of a trailer hitch you would need the Draw Tite hitch part # 75699 which is a Class III 2 inch hitch confirmed as a fit. For trailer wiring you would want the # 118425 which is a confirmed fit as well. I attached install videos for both products as well. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4...

  • How to Pick Out a Hitch for a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee to Tow a 26 ft Trailer
  • Depends on the trailer. If the 26 foot trailer you plan on towing weighs less than 3,000 lbs then a hitch with that capacity would be adequate. You should note that if you are talking about traditional trailer towing you would need a hitch for the rear of your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Curt Hitch part # C31047 that you referenced is a front hitch that installs on the front of your vehicle and would not be what you would need. You would want something like the Draw-Tite part #...

He also added that they have not received any calls about the hitch not fitting. So the # 36362 hitch will fit your Grand Cherokee. I have included a link to the installation details to the right. The hitch comes with the necessary hardware for installation. If you plan on doing some towing the recommended ball...

  • Wiring 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee For Brake Controller
  • The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have the pre-wired port used for installation of a brake controller. To install a brake controller on your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory 7-Way you will need to do some hard wiring. The wire Jeep provides is the electric brake output wire that goes back to the 7-Way trailer connector. This wire should be a light green wire that is behind the fuse box in the cab of the Jeep. It will connect to the blue wire on the brake controller. You...

  • Does Computer on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee have to be Reprogrammed to be Able to Tow
  • One of my coworkers has a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee which is the same generation as your 2011. When we went to install a 7-Way trailer connector on it the vehicle did have to be reprogrammed by a Jeep dealer. The Jeep should have the wiring there to add a 7-Way but it would not be fully functional unless the BCM was flashed by a dealership. You will not have to do this if you were to add a 4-Way trailer connector. If you plan on doing some towing in addition to the trailer hitch, # C13065,...

  • When installing the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # C13182, on your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the plastic shroud will not need to be trimmed. At this time we have not had the opportunity to install a Curt hitch on the 2011 Grand Cherokee, so I called my contact at Curt Mfg. and they do not have a photo of this hitch installed on a Grand Cherokee either. However, in the instructions which I have linked for you, there is a diagram that shows the position of the hitch.
