Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Express Van

We're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Tekonsha T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector. Part number is 118392. Now when we're ready to use our wiring we're going to let that drape right over the rear edge of the door sill here. There's a rubber gasket all the way around the bottom edge of the door there meant to seal it up, and that's also going to offer protection for our wiring. We'll be able to just bundle this up inside of the van. I like to use the cover for my wiring to go around it, and keep it kind of bundled up pretty tidy there, and we'll tuck it out of the way. Now our installation's going to begin on the passenger side rear of the vehicle with our doors open.

If you have a trim panel that covers up this pillar you'll want to get that removed. There are going to be pressure clips that fit into these little slots, and you'll just kind of be popping it off of there. That will allow us access to this plug area. You'll see the orange keeper there, you want to slide that out, just like that, and then separate our plug. To do that we'll push in on the tab that orange keeper was under, and then just wiggle them to separate. Now we can side the male portion of our T-connector right into that factory plug.

Going to replace our orange keeper just by sliding it in. The other side of our connector here that's going to plug into the other side of our factory connector, and we're going to use the supplied keeper here as well. Just like that. Now we're going to use zip-ties to get our plug secure there. We don't want it bouncing around.

In typical applications I would just run this wire straight down, and I'd replace this cover. I would also pop up this panel, run it underneath, and then back up to that side but with this aftermarket toolbox that's been put in you'll see they've got this pinned down with the bracket there. I don't want to risk breaking it or cracking it, so we're going to instead go up and over, just zip-tie right off to that wire harness going around. Then we'll do the same thing here on the driver side for securing our wiring in place. Now right up here beside our plug we're going to have a ground stud. It's a bolt that goes into the body here.

We're going to use a 10 millimeter socket to remove that, and we'll add our ground wire to it. Take our bolt through our ring terminal, and we can get it right back in the same position. Then we're going to run our wiring on down. In typical applications you'd be putting your panel back around here, and that would hold it in place. What we're going to do, since this is a more of a work or utility style, we're going to use one of part number A0500, it's going to be a 1/2" loon clamp. We're going to use that to go around our wiring. Then with a number 12 self-tapping screw we can just secure that right to the sheet metal there. Now we'll test out our wiring using part number I26. It's going to be a simple plug in four-pole tester. We'll go run through the lights and we should see them operate. We'll start by turning on or running lights, then we'll do the left blinker, right blinker, and the brakes. Now in standard installations the length of the wiring harness coming out of the back of the van will be quite a bit longer. Since that rear panel wasn't something that we we're able to remove and we have to go up and over it reduced slightly the length of available wiring we had hanging out of the back. This should still be long enough however to connect to most of your trailers. Now when we're not using it . Now with everything working properly that's going to complete our installation of the Tekonsha T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector. Part number is 118392, on our 2017 Chevrolet Express.

Product has never worked properly. Very difficult to get customer support on the line. Do not recommend. 628701

The first step in troubleshooting is to ensure the unit is installed correctly. Make sure the connector with the green wire is installed on the passenger side, and the connector with the yellow wire is on the drivers side. Make sure the connections are firmly pushed all the way together. Use a circuit tester like # 40376
Circuit Tester Kit
$49.43
on the trailer connector while a helper activates each function. If the tester shows everythings working properly, then the issue is in the trailer wiring, and not the wiring harness. If the connector has functions that arent working, then its faulty and should be replaced. Heres a link to a help article that shows additional troubleshooting strategies that you might find helpful.

Have had the wiring kit for my van for one year. Installed simply works well. Could not ask for more for the price. Only tow with this vehicle maybe once a month. The claim to be plug and play is correct. I spent more time deciding how I was going to route the wire then I did installing it. 349645

Product was as described and easy to install, the hardest thing was getting the inner panels off. (I have a passenger van) plug and play no issues. Note: if you have a passenger van when removing the lower panels you will see plugs that are similar..these are not the plugs you want..you have to remove the upper panels are the plugs you want are behind those panels...great product makes it really simple 87905

A real time saver for my work van, all connectors fit great, the wires could have been maybe three or four inches longer, I can't believe that GM does not offer something like this, thank for the great product and fast shipping and a good price! 562752

If you can't figure out the install on this, then you should'nt be driving. Easy, fast and worth the price. I paired this with the wiring kit for trailer brakes and 7-wire harness and I'm ready to tow. 2007 Chevrolet Express AWD passenger van. 252405

Worked great after installing into correct connector! Thought I had a bad harness until I read other comments on this product and swapped connectors. Installed in a 2010 Chevy Express Passenger van. The connector you need on the drivers side is tucked up high on the pillar. Instructions to look for the brown and yellow wires in the vehicle connector would have saved me some time. 439947

Easy to install. However, the flat 4 - way connector section could have been a little longer. ( 8-12 inches) Also the long green wire going to the other side needs to be about 12 inches longer. I had to cut and splice in 12 inches so the wire could be tucked away and make it all the way over to the other side without making having to make short cuts and have the wire exposed. 523002

Works fine. Fits good with exception that the route I used under the van made the wiring a little short. If you are going to install through the rear access hatch, be very careful placing your hands up to the plastic/foam divider as this is a hand trap that is very painful and nearly cost me the tip of my finger. I would recommend alternate routing as shown in the videos. 201595

As far as the product I purchased it worked as it should. On the customer side make sure you double check even if it says it’s compadible, I’d probably still call the company and double check, if you go along with the compatible item and it’s wrong, the company has a huge restocking fee. 578526

I ordered a hitch, wiring harnesss, and a 5 pin harness adapter. Received product faster than expected. Installation was easier than expected because of the very accurate videos. I spent more time gathering my tools than actually plugging in the wiring harness. Hitch was installed in 10 mins. Took me longer to get the hitch out of the expertly packed box. I believe the success of etrailer is that they heavily research products and only offer quality, consumer forward items to us, the customers. I had an above average experience. Thank you! 670014

Hi Installed in minutes appears to be a nice addition to our business for hauling more merchandise. BUT the four smaller flat pieces of steel that hold the bolt head spin inside the 2010 Chevy Express frame and torqueing to speck was not achieved. I was able to wedge 3 of the four plates with bolt to stop it from spinning and torqued to spec but left one middle one un torqued. The light kit will have to be installed when the vehicle is empty to access the panels for removal. 652054

  • Installing 7-Way on 2017 Chevy Express Van
  • To install a 7-blade in your 2017 Chevy Express van, presumably for a brake controller, you are going to need to do some hard wiring. For a brake controller the first thing you'll need is to add 4-way # 118392 and I've added a link to a video showing how this is installed in a '17 Express. Then to add a 7-way you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7; I have also added a link to a video showing a brake controller being installed in a similar Express...

  • Your 2013 Chevy Express Van does not have factory brake controller pre-wiring regardless of it has the factory 7-way or not. Either way you'd have to hardwire the brake controller to the 7-way. Since you do not have a hitch most likely you do not have any trailer wiring at this time. You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 31345 since you said you wanted the trailer wiring isolated from the van wiring. From there you would need to...

I really only have one extra part that I believe you will need to add - part # ETBCXW which is extra wire for the # ETBC7. It gives you 10 extra feet of the wiring that you will need for the brake controller and 12V power for your 7-Way. • The best brake controller for your 2007 Chevy Express Van is going to be the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is a proportional controller, which means your trailer brakes will be powered in proportion to your Chevy's brakes. It has an LCD display, continual diagnostic checks, as well as safeguards that minimize battery drain and keep your brakes from overheating. To use the P3, you will need installation kit # ETBC7 as well as a 4-way connector such as the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness...

  • Where is the Tow Wiring Connection on a 2014 GMC Savanna Van
  • The 2014 GMC Savanna Van has two possible options for trailer wiring. If the van is pre-wired for a towing package or it is not pre-wired. The wiring plug that you mentioned does not look like the correct wiring plug needed if the vehicle is pre-wired for towing. The plug end for the pre-wired will be a OEM car connection that is a somewhat large round plug. See photo. If your vehicle is not pre-wired, then a harness kit like Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118392, will work...

  • Trailer Brake Controller Installation in 2003 GMC Safari Van
  • The installation of a trailer brake controller like the Prodigy P2 # 90885 in a 2003 GMC Safari van and the parts needed will depend on how it is equipped. If the van has a factory-installed 7-way trailer connector you may be able to find a pre-installed blue wire (for the controller's output signal to the 7-way) that will be under the dash near the emergency brake pedal. This will connect to the controller's blue wire. If your truck has a round plug with a cap inside the driver's...

  • Recommended Brake Controller for 2019 Chevy Express Van
  • For the brake controller itself I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 because it offers the best display on the market for making easy adjustments, reading full diagnostic messages (instead of just codes), and operating the manual override. This proportional controller's reliability is also well known in the industry and it has received almost unanimous praise from our customers (4.9/5 stars out of over 3,000 reviews). This will be the last brake controller you purchase. I...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Chevy Express Van Cutaway
  • There is a trailer hitch for your 2019 Chevy Express Cutaway van; I recommend the Buyers Products 2" Hitch Receiver # 3371801102 because of its strong 12,000 lb towing capacity and 1,200 lb tongue weight capacity. This hitch is constructed out of steel and has a black powder coat finish to help protect it from corrosion. For wiring which will give your '19 Express Cutaway a 4-way connector and allow you to power your trailer's lights you need Wiring Harness # 118392. It is also recommended...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2017 Chev 3500 Express Passenger Van
  • If you are in need of trailer wiring for your 2017 Chevy Express (meaning there is none present), then you do not have the towing package and would need the 4-way harness part # 118392 which is a confirmed fit. I attached an install video for this kit on a 2017 Express Van just like yours.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Wiring to Add 4-Flat to 2019 Chevy Express Van
  • The trailer wiring harness I recommend for your 2019 Chevy Express Van is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118392 because of its simple installation and the strong reputation of its manufacturer, Tekonsha, of making the highest-quality wiring harnesses. As you can see by the linked instructions and linked install video of the # 118392 harness on a Chevy Express van you will only need to plug this harness in to connection points at the rear of your...

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller to a 2016 Chevy Express LT
  • If your 2016 Chevy Express van did not come with a factory trailer connector at the back then we have to assume that it does not have the factory tow package. It could have some of the wiring for it but just not active. In order to install a 7-Way trailer connector you would first need a 4-Way using # 118392. Then, after that is installed, you will need # ETBC7 to install the 7-Way and retain the 4-Way. If you pull the cap off that plug in your picture and it turns out to be a functional...

  • Recommended 7-Way Wire Harness For 2011 Chevrolet Express Van With No Factory Tow Package
  • If you do not have the towing package you will need to add a 4-way connector like the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part # 118392. I have attached a link to an installation video for this wiring harness you can check out. You will find the connection points at the rear of the cargo area on the van as shown in the attached photo. You will then need # ETBC7 to complete the 7-way installation. It plugs into the 4-way connector and with additional wiring...

  • 2010 Chevy Express 2500 Trailer Wiring Fit
  • Are the taillights of your 2010 Chevy Express Van still functioning like normal? If so, then the T-One harness part # 118392 will work and function the taillights of your trailer. It's hard to say what's going on with your current setup, but if the taillights of the vehicle are working fine yet the trailer wiring isn't that normally indicates a wiring issue.

  • Recommendation for Hitch and Wiring Kit for 2008 Chevy Express 3500 Cutaway
  • One of our most popular hitches for a 2008 Chevrolet Full Size Express Van is the Curt Trailer Hitch, # C15320. This Class V hitch has a maximum towing capacity of 16,000 pounds and 17,000 pounds when used with a weight distribution system. I spoke with my contact at Curt to get a some additional measurements just to be sure that this hitch will work on your vehicle. I have listed them on the attached a diagram and I would recommend checking to make sure that the holes in your frame will...

  • Recommended Wiring And Brake Controller For 2017 Chevrolet Express Van
  • Tow package can have several different meanings. It depends how your Express was set up. It can mean transmission, oil coolers, or suspension. Some vehicles have trailer wiring at the rear and some have factory trailer hitches as well. I recommend checking the owner's manual to find out what functions are performed when the trailer button is used. If you have the tow package you should have a trailer connector at the rear of your van. If you do not have a trailer connector on...
