Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk or rear cargo area, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove the trim panels to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your rear cargo area

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118361 on a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. And this installation will also apply for the Infiniti QX4 as well. The wiring installation is actually going to be done predominantly on the inside of the vehicle here. What we need to do is, I have actually opened up the rear hatch of the vehicle. Connecting points for the wiring harness are actually located behind the interior panels on both sides of the vehicle, directly behind the tail light assemblies. So the first thing I am going to do is go ahead and take out the six screws holding the rear threshold piece and then pry away the rivets on the sides to gain access to the connectors. We will just set that off to the side for the time being, and I will go ahead and pull back the carpeting.

OK, with the panel pulled back, you can feel the connector. It is actually up through this knockout here. And again, if you basically just trace from directly behind the tail light assembly, it is sitting right up in there. It is really hard to get to from this point. It is right back here, essentially. To make the installation a little bit easier, I am actually going to go ahead and remove the tail lights themselves and pull the wire out through the knockout right behind the tail light assembly. And I will make my connections there. And you can see what I am going to do. I am just going to pull the ground out here, and then there is the connection point for the T-harness. You can see it is going to be a lot easier to make my connection this way.

What I am actually going to do is to go through the opening here and then out through the grommet that I just disconnected. And then we just want to go ahead and disconnect the clip. And you can see, the connector has some tape on it. And there is just a little push tab right there, and you want to depress that. And we just want to plug our harness in line there. And then we just feed the connectors back through the hole, and now they are in position for us to put our plug back into place. And then we can reassemble the tail light assembly. And then we want to mount our converter box as well. You can see on the back of the converter box we have some double-sided tape, so we just want to find a nice, suitable spot to tape that to. Actually, inside this opening there is a nice, flat surface that I am going to go ahead and clean off a little bit with just some basic water, and tape it to there. That will be a nice spot to keep it out of the way.

I want to point out that here on this drivers side there is a ground terminal that we need to mount to a grounding point. And there actually is a factory ground right here at the bottom that we are just going to go ahead and connect into. We are going to remove that screw and place our ground wire on there. Now we are going to route our green and red wire over to the passengers side. We are just going to run this wire underneath here and straight across. And I am going to do the same thing that I did on the drivers side, as far as removing the tail light assembly and pulling the harness out this way and making our connections on the outside of the tail light, since that is a lot easier to do. I am going to set this here for the time being, remove my tail light, and then pull the harness through. And again, I just going to depress the button, put the harness in place, and then feed it back through. We will place our tail light assembly back on. Then we will go back inside the vehicle and secure all these wires.

All right, when securing the wires, just come back across. I am going to go ahead and start here on the passengers side. And again, I want to route it through this groove here. Just kind of get that set up and reconnect our panel. And then kind of set the wire up where you are going to want it. What I am actually going to attempt to do is put the threshold piece back on where we want it to sit in this raised channel area here to keep it from getting pinched. Just kind of set that loosely in place. What we are going to do is, the 4-pole is actually going to be routed underneath the paneling here, and then we will get back on the other side of the vehicle. Make sure our wires are not going to be pinched when we reconnect the interior panel, and then go ahead and put it back on. And again, if we removed this tie-down fastener, we want to put that back on. We will replace the carpeting. And you can see, when you want to go ahead and use the harness, you just pull it out of the trunk area here. And you can close the tailgate on it. The weatherstripping here will keep it from being pinched, so you do not have to worry about that. And then for storage you can just leave it on the inside of the vehicle. This will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118361 on a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder.

Easy installation, took me about 20 minutes only due to one side panel being stuck and didn't want to break anything. Otherwise, would of been a 10 minute job. 637079

Product was as advertised. Easy installation and still works perfect a year later. The customer service reps were very helpful (not an over seas call center) Even though I had a ground wire issue (easy fix) they were more than ready to follow up with their install specialist. I was able to find my weak ground. They wicked AWSOME! 521807

The video tutorial was extremely helpful. Total installation time was minimal. Instead of pulling the wiring harness under the rear hatch, I ran it through the rubber grommet between the cargo area and spare tire so it could be mounted to the hitch itself. etrailer is the go to place for saving money by doing it yourself. Local company quoted me $476 out the door. I did it myself for less than $200. 466039

Awesome product! Had this installed under 2H. The only addition I'll like to include on this post.. You'll need to protect the wire where it comes in contact with the body of the vehicle. These openings can have sharp edges and over time could cut into the wire. I used wire sleeve on those contact area. (Appoxr: 3 pcs x 9" Not included in the package) 238941

Excellent support site, and product. Support site reinforces the cable installation. Support site allows for internal installation. Is recommended to review the installation procedures prior to attempting the cable installation. There is a way to install the connectors externally outside the cab that requires more drilling and routing. 232408

I ordered this wiring harness with the hitch I installed on my daughter's 2001 Nisson Pathfinder, and watched the installation video prior to installing it, and it was surprisingly simple to install. It took a little longer than it should have because I didn't really like the idea of running the trailer connector plug out the back door, so I looked for, and found a way to run it out the bottom of the vehicle through an existing hole. It was a tight fit but turned out to be a much cleaner looking installation. I'm very happy with this purchase, the price was reasonable, shipping was free and fast when combined with the hitch, and etrailer.com seems to have very good customer service. I would definitely buy from them again and would recoomend them to a friend. 194993

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2001 Infiniti QX4
  • You'd want to consider what the trailer has most importantly as that will dictate what style of connector would be the best for you. The most common is a 4-way and 7-way which for your 2001 Infiniti QX4 would call for the 4-way part # 118361. Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # ETBC7 instead of the # 37185 and a brake controller. This kit comes...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder
  • There is no standard for wire colors so the only way to know for sure what the functions are would be to test the wires using a circuit tester such as # 40376. But that is not necessary because there are T-connector wiring harnesses that fit your 2000 Nissan Pathfinder so you will not have to test and splice wires. You can use Tow Ready wiring harness # 118361. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. While a hardwire harness could work there are none officially...

Harness # C55361 should not have that issue since it does not have a direct connection to the vehicle battery. The harness you are using now, # 118361, might not be the problem and it is possible that if the harness is not the problem that when you install a new one the same thing will happen. • To determine if your 2001 Nissan Altima can tow your trailer the first thing you need to do is consult the owners manual of your vehicle. There should be a section on towing that will list if there are restrictions on your vehicle and what capacities it would have. The Draw Tite hitch part # 24690 that you referenced would be the correct hitch to get for your vehicle. This hitch as a 2,000 lb total trailer weight and 200 lb tongue weight capacity. I have incldued a link to the installation instructions for you. If you will be doing some towing I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit, # 989900. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. • To determine if your 1998 Nissan Pathfinder can pull the 2002 Wildwood travel trailer you will need to consult the vehicle owners manual for the towing capacity of your Pathfinder. If the towing capacity of the Pathfinder is higher than the gross trailer weight when loaded and ready to tow then you can tow it. A brake controller is a good idea if the trailer has electric brakes. Otherwise all the braking will be done by the Pathfinder, wearing out the vehicle brakes quicker, and if you...

  • Troubleshooting a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder that the Trailer Wiring Blinkers/Stop Circuit Isnt Working
  • First thing you need to do is determine if the problem is on the trailer wiring or your vehicle wiring. To do that you will need to test the circuits of your 4-way on your 2004 Nissan Pathfinder with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to check if the blinker signals are making it to your vehicle 7-way. Check out the video I attached that details how this is done. If its on the vehicle side it sounds like you are missing a couple relays. There is a relay box under the dash on the driver-side...

  • No Trailer Stop/Turn Lights With 2003 Nissan Pathfinder
  • The next step in troubleshooting your trailer lights is going to be dependent on whether or not you have a factory or aftermarket trailer wiring harness. If you have a factory trailer wiring harness then you would be better off just taking the vehicle into a service center for repairs as the only advice we would have for this is to check the fuses and relays which you said you have already done. The factory trailer wiring harness can also be bypassed with an aftermarket trailer wiring harness,...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2000 Nissan Pathfinder
  • You are on the right track! The trailer hitch part # 75077 is a confirmed fit for your 2000 Nissan Pathfinder as well as the trailer wiring part # 118361. The ball mount kit part # 989900 would then be a great option for giving you ball mount options to tow your trailer level.

  • No separate or additional converter is needed for the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118361 for your 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. All plugs and converters needed for the wiring harness to combine your vehicle's separate wiring system are included. You will simply need to plug the harness into your Pathfinder's wiring behind the left and right vehicle taillights, as seen in the video I've attached. In the video, our installer is able to ground...

  • Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder
  • You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118361. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling...

  • Troubleshooting Curt # 55400 Converter Installed on 2001 Toyota Highlander
  • It is possible for a converter to go bad. You can test the converter by using a circuit tester like part # 40376. Begin by testing the pins on the 4-pole as each function is activated. If some of the functions are not working correctly, test the input side of the converter. If you have signals entering but not leaving the converter, the converter is indeed faulty and should be replaced. I have linked you to a video showing how this is done. However, before installing a new converter,...

  • Trailer Wiring and Accessories for a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder
  • Trailer hitches and wiring are sold separately because some customers want a hitch to use with accessories such as a bike rack and not tow a trailer. For a trailer wiring harness for your 2000 Nissan Pathfinder you can use # 118361 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you. I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and...

  • How To Bypass the Factory Trailer Wiring Harness On a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder
  • If you do not wish to take your 2003 Nissan Pathfinder into the dealer to have the factory trailer wiring harness repaired then yes, it will be best to just replace this with an aftermarket trailer wiring harness. I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118361 which is completely plug and play. This aftermarket trailer wiring harness will work just fine alongside the factory trailer wiring harness as they will be on separate circuits and this option will be far more cost effective...

  • Trailer Lights Malfunction After Adding Light Bar to Trailer Connected to 1996 Nissan Pathfinder
  • By adding more lights to your wiring system you could be overloading the system and that could be causing your malfunction. I would recommend to check what the amperage draw is on the CURT # 55361 T-Connector wiring harness to make sure you are not overloading your vehicles wiring system. For a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder the wiring harness that we recommend is the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 11836. It is rated for up to 1 stop/turn light per side for 2.1 amps and for tail lights...
