Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118353 Review

Today, we're going to review part #118353. This is the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. This part number is a custom-fit part number. It is designed to fit the 1986 1/2 to 1997 Nissan Pick-ups and 1987 to 1995 Nissan Pathfinders. I would recommend to go to our website and put in your year and model vehicle and it will tell you exactly if this would work for your application. This does include everything shown here on the table: the wiring harness, the set of directions, some zip ties and a grounding screw. This will provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights.

It does connect quickly and easily. There is no cutting or splicing the wires. Basically you just connect these to behind the driver's side and passenger's side taillights. They use these plug-in T connectors. It does include this taillight converter right here and this is designed to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match the head of your trailer.

Most of the wiring on here is a 16-gauge bonded wire. It does come with a dust cap already installed on the 4-way, so basically when you're not using it, when you're not towing, you can just pop the dust cap right on to protect it. Now, a few specs on this harness: the maximum amperage for the stop and turn light circuit for this is 2.1 amps per circuit, on the taillights is 4 amps per circuit, and basically, it does come with a nice set of instructions with diagrams of where the points are. Basically, if you just go to the rear of the vehicle, and again, access behind your taillights, and what you do is start with this one that has the yellow wire into it. Connect this to behind the taillights. Have this extra white wire with an eyelet on it.

What you want to do is connect this to a good, clean ground, or drill a hole and use this existing screw to get a good, clean ground. Then what you'll do is run this green wire, it's an extra length of wire. This will run over to the passenger side. This would connect behind the passenger side taillights. Now your converter has a double-sided tape on it.

Once you get where the wires are all connected, you want this to be secured, you just peel that, stick it down to a nice flat surface so the converter doesn't move around, and then you just run your length of wire out to the rear of your vehicle. When you're not using it, you can fold it up and put it inside the vehicle. That should do it for the review on part #118353, the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. .

Worked perfectly, easy to install too! I have had trouble with other wiring harnesses, but this one was a snap. After re-wiring my Bragg trailer replacing the old lights and cleaning it up it now has bright lights eliminating any future concern about night hauling. 521384

Product worked great. Had a little trouble installing the 'wire run' going to the passenger side. I have a 1993 Pathfinder and the 'wire run' from the drivers tail light to the passenger tail light goes through a small channel on the rear floor. I pushed a wire snake through the channel and tried to pull the connectors through the channel but no luck. I then just cut the 1 green wire, pulled it through and then spliced it back to the passenger side assembly. I connected everything and it worked perfect. 654059

  • No Brake Light Function from Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit HM48895
  • The Hopkins 4-pole wiring harness made for your 1996 Nissan Pickup is kit # HM43505 which appears on the linked page along with similar items # 118353 from Tekonsha and # C55353 from Curt. All of these wiring kits use custom-fit plugs for simple installation at the truck's taillight connectors. No splicing is required for these custom kits. • Towing Capacity and Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 1996 Nissan Pickup XE
  • In order to tow a trailer with your 1996 Nissan Pickup XE, you will need a trailer hitch, trailer wiring harness, ball mount, and a hitch ball. For a trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75186 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. This is also the most cost effective hitch we have confirmed to fit your truck. For a trailer wiring harness, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118353...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 1997 Nissan Pickup
  • With a 4-way flat trailer wiring harness like the # 118353 which is a fit for your 1997 Nissan Pickup the only functions you get are the turn signals/stop lights and running light circuit. If there's an additional circuit needed like maybe a 12 volt power circuit you'll need the 4-way to 7-way adapter part # 37185. You'll then need to connect the black wire of this to the positive battery terminal through a breaker like part # 9510.

  • Both Trailer Turn Signals Blink Instead of Just One
  • This sounds like a potential ground issue. Weird things can happen when there is a ground problem. Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. A short from one of the turn signal/brake light circuits to the other could cause this issue. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces....

  • Why Would Trailer Lights Stop Working When Headlights of Vehicle are Turned On
  • Try improving the connection of the main ground wire of the trailer wiring harness. Make sure it is attached to a clean metal surface. Or you can run all of the trailer wires back to the main ground. This is actually the ideal solution. But you can also check the current grounds for the lights to make sure they are making a solid connection to a clean metal surface. What you described is the classic insufficient ground scenario so finding a way to improve the grounds will fix the problem.

You can also try running a jumper wire back up to the main ground circuit of the trailer harness as well.

The brown wire from the 4-way on your trailer is the running lights circuit and will need to be run to the running light circuit of both assemblies. This will be the lower illumination circuit. Typically the wire color would also be brown. The...

  • Left Hand Turn Signal Causes Multiple Lights to Illuminate on Trailer
  • The issue you are having with your trailer lights could be caused by either a ground or wire short. I first recommend you test the pins inside the 7-way on your tow vehicle to make sure that the issue is on the trailer and not the tow vehicle. The pins should only be active when you have the respective signal applied. For example, if you were testing the left hand stop/turn pin then the circuit should only be active with these signals applied. In addition to this, the turn signal should...

  • New Pop-Up Camper Turn Signals Operating Backwards.
  • The two most likely problems are either a poor ground connection on the trailer or the vehicle or the trailer connector is incorrectly wired on the vehicle or the trailer is wired incorrectly. A poor ground might seem that it couldn't cause such a problem, but you'd be surprised at the crazy things a poor ground circuit will make a trailer's lamps do. Use a circuit tester like # 40376 on the trailer connector on the car while a helper activates the left and right turn signals. Check...

  • Why Would Right Turn Signal Come on When Left Turn Signal is On for Trailer Wiring
  • If your right turn signal is blinking with the left turn signal applied that most likely means you have a short between the right turn and left turn signal circuits or you possibly have the left turn signal shorted out to the running light circuit as well. If the second scenario was happening you'd likely see the right turn signal blinking at a dimmer intensity than the left. If both lights are same brightness then that would indicate you have a short between the left and right turn signals....

  • Trailer Brake Lights are Dim or Do Not Work with Running Lights On Towed by 1993 Nissan Pathfinder
  • Curt trailer wiring harness # C56175 is one of the correct options for the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder. I am not sure what those other numbers are although HOP48895 could be a reference to a Hopkins trailer wiring harness. It sounds like there is a ground issue either where the converter is grounded or on the trailer. Make sure that the converter ground is attached to a clean metal surface. There should be no paint or corrosion. If it is sharing a ground try moving it to its own ground location. Ground...

  • Diagnosing Trailer Wiring Problem on 1995 Nissan Pickup
  • A ground problem is a possibility, but having an insufficient ground connection usually causes the trailer lamps to behave erratically, or to work properly until the vehicle headlights are switched on. The best place to start would be to use a circuit tester like part # 40376 and test the trailer connector as each function is tested. This will tell you if the problem exists on the vehicle or the trailer. If your testing shows that the trailer connector is functioning properly, then...
