Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath your vehicle, along the driver's-side frame rail.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118325 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with four pull flat trailer connector. This product fits a 1994 to 2008 Mazda B Series Pickup, as well as a 1993 to 1999 Ford Ranger. It's going to provide your four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle. It's going to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5 pull, 6 pull, and 7 pull adapters. The adapters are sold separately, and it's going to come with a dust cap for the for way flat connector. That way you can cover up the connection points when your plug's not being used.

The black box is going to be the included taillight converter, this is going to insure that you . Excuse me. That your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The unit's designed to connect quickly and easily. All you have to do is locate the connection point, along the frame rail, and plug in your T connector.

The ports on the connector are going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle, and they're going to snap lock together for a nice tight secure fit. Once you have that plugged in, you'll need to mount your converter box to a nice clean alloy wheel location. It's going to come with some double sided adhesive tape on it, that way you can easily get that mounted. Some other options includes includes a mount hole right here, so that way you can use one of the included screws to get it mounted that way, or it includes one large zip tie, that way you can get it mounted with a zip tie. Multiple options to get that converter box mounted, but you want to get that mounted to a nice clean out of the way location. Then you can secure your excess wires if you have any slack in your wiring. You can use that zip tie or you can provide your own.

Once your installation's complete, the four way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch, you can loop it around the safety chain loop, or you can purchase a mounting bracket. Mounting bracket is sold separately, but it is recommended to help keep the connector secure. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all of your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pull connector itself. That grease is going to help prevent corrosion, so if you need some of that, you can find it here as well. It's going to be sold separately also. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 2.1 amps per circuit, and for the taillights we're looking at 4 amps per circuit.

It's going to come with your detailed installation instructions, those are going to walk you through the whole process step by step. That's going to do it for today's look at the T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with four pull flat trailer connector.

Plug and play. Can't beat it. I bought one of these for my 92 Ford Ranger and one for my 96 Ford Ranger. 2 different part numbers. Simple as unplugging the harness where the bed attaches to the frame at the rear and plug this in between the two plug halves. EZ-PZ. I have used etrailer before and i will use them again if i need to. 400185

As a seasoned auto repair tech I can tell you that the fact that this harness just connects inline to the rear taillight harness is priceless! No exposed splices to corrode and damage the vehicle harness. The flat 4 wire standard trailer connector connects to any trailer without brakes, perfect for my utility trailer. I may have to repair damaged wires on customer cars & trucks but I'll never have to fix them on my truck! Thanks ETRAILER 382255

1997 Ford Ranger

I was able to install the part that I bought on my truck, but I didn't realize that the 4-pole flat output doesn't have a wire for a brake light, and I need a wire for a brake light. Do you have any suggestions for a supplementary/replacement part that I could buy from you guys that would include a wire for a brake light? I have a 1997 Ford Ranger, and the T portion of the product that I bought works just fine - the only issue is that the brake light wire is lost somehow in the conversion. 608318

Comments

This wiring harness includes a taillight converter, which takes the brake lamp and turn signal signals and combines them onto one circuit. Many vehicles use whats called a separate taillight system, with separate bulbs for turn signals and brake lamps. Most trailers, however use the more simple combined system that carries both signals on the same circuit.

  • Weight Distribution and Brake Controller Recommendation for 1997 Ford Ranger
  • Let's start with the weight distribution and go over what you'll need to know before getting into specific units. The first bit of information you'll need to know is your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go PJ trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 1997 Ford Ranger. To determine your trailer's loaded tongue weight you can use a scale such as the Sherline # 5780 or by using one of the methods outlined in...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 1996 Ford Ranger
  • The hitch part # E-3S that you referenced would not bolt up the bottom of the Westin Bumper part # 66000-97200 without a lot of modification that I can't recommend. Instead I have a much better option for you for a hitch for your 1996 Ford Ranger. You would want the Curt hitch part # C12012 that will attach directly to the frame of your truck and would be a much better hitch setup. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes...

  • Reese and Draw-Tite are the same. Same parent company, design, everything but the sticker. I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75082 for your 1998 Ford Ranger Flareside. This hitch was designed for vehicles with the factory installed step bumper. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise...

  • Is a Hitch Necessary for a 1995 Ford Ranger With Bumper That has Hitch Ball Holes?
  • If your brother's 1995 Ford Ranger has a bumper with integrated hitch ball holes, then you may not need a hitch, depending on the weight of the camper and the towing capacity of the Ranger using the bumper hitch ball. If his Ranger did have the ability to pull your pop-up camper, you would only need a hitch ball with the same diameter as the coupler on your camper, and the shank diameter that fits the hitch ball hole on your brother's Ranger. For example, the Draw-Tite # 19260 is a 1-7/8"...

  • Using Trailer Lights on a 1997 Ford Ranger with Separate Turn Signals and Brake Lights
  • The 1997 Ford Ranger has separate turn signals and brake lights. Trailer lights have combined brake lights and turn signals. What you will need to do is use trailer wiring harness # 118325 which plugs into the factory tail light connectors on the truck (or if those are gone you can cut off the end that plugs into the vehicle and hard wire it in). If you have to cut off the end that plugs into the vehicle tail light connectors then hardwire it as follows: brown connects to vehicle running...

  • Recommended Brake Controller and Wiring for 1999 Ford Ranger Pickup Truck
  • For your 1999 Ford Ranger, there is not a 7-way that does not require spicing. The good news is you won't need to spice every wire and splicing for this installation is not difficult with the correct wiring kit. If you do not have the factory trailer connector, then I recommend the T-One wiring harness # 118325 to start. This harness plugs into your factory wiring harness located beneath your vehicle along the driver's side frame rail. If you do have the factory 4-way, then you...

  • Troubleshooting Broken Ground Pin on Trailer Wiring Harness for a 1994 Ford Ranger
  • The only wiring harness we carry for the 1994 Ford Ranger is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118325, that you have referenced. The black converter box does contain some electrical components that could potentially go bad. But if you are consistently having a trouble with the same wiring harness, it may be a symptom of another problem. You did mention the ground post breaking off. This could occur if there is corrosion build up in either connector, making it difficult to connect and...

  • Installing T-Connector Trailer Wiring Harness On 1993 Ford Ranger
  • On the driver side frame rail you should be able to find the connection point that you install the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118325 to. Per the instructions you will need to use caution when separating the connector to avoid damaging the locking tabs on the connector. If you can gently pry the locking tabs up, you should be able to separate the connector with out much of a problem. You then install the T-connector to complete the installation.

  • Troubleshooting Turn Signals Not Working On Trailer Pulled by 1999 Ford Ranger
  • The Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118325, is the correct wiring harness for your 1999 Ford Ranger, and it does have a converter. Your trucks turn signals are separate from the brake light circuit on your Ranger. If the lighting kit you installed on your trailer had a lot of lights, like extra lights on the side, the amperage draw might be too much for your vehicles wiring system. If this is the case, you will need to upgrade to a Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite, # 119179KIT....

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 1998 Mazda B Series Truck
  • The hitch that is on your 2007 Honda Accord is not compatible with your 1998 Mazda B Series Pickup. You would need to get a hitch that is custom fit for your Mazda truck. For that I would recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch # 13138. Check out the install video I attached for this hitch as well. For trailer wiring I would recommend the Tow Ready Harness # 118325. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip,...

  • Trailer Tail Lights and Running Lights Do Not Work When Connected to 1994 Ford Ranger
  • This is a strange situation because on a trailer, the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuit. Unless your trailer has turn signals that are separate, it should be a standard 2 wire system. What may be occurring is a bad ground, a alternative wiring situation on the trailer, or a bad converter box. First, testing the converter is simple. Start by disconnecting the trailer. Next, use a circuit tester like # ALL640595 to first test the signals going into the converter and...
