Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath the truck bed, near the driver's-side frame rail.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Circuit-Protected Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

This converter safeguards itself and your vehicle against possible electrical shorts and overloads with integrated short circuit protection. Just install the connector as indicated and rest assured that the wiring system of your vehicle will remain feedback-free.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Chevrolet Colorado

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 41165 on a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado, this harness also applies to the GMC Canyon. We are underneath the vehicle now. We are going to go ahead and point out where the wiring harness is located. You can see where the spare tire is located, directly to the left of that, at the merging of the cross member and the frame, you can see the wiring connectors here. The first thing we want to do is go ahead and disconnect these two pieces. You can see there is a little tab here. Go ahead and push that in and pull the two connectors apart.

Ok, then next we are going to go ahead and plug our harness in line. Before we do that we are going to go ahead and put some electrical grease that came with the installation kit. You want to put some of that on both sides of the wiring harness connection ends. Now we want to go ahead and plug in the appropriate connector into the one on the vehicle here.

Now we are going to want to find a suitable place to mount our converter box here. Using the zip ties that are provided, I am going to go ahead and zip tie the converter to the wiring harness here. You can then cut of the extra portion of the tabs. After that we just need to find a suitable routing point for the four pole connector. Go ahead and put on the plug cover that is included in the kit as well. This will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 41165 on a 2008 Chevy Colorado.

Tekonsha towing "Plug in T" wiring harness for a 2007 Chevy Colorado....The product was excellent, just as described. It literally did, in fact, install in about 5-10 minutes. Your website was extremely helpful regarding the product. The installment videos are what sold me. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating was the 7 day delivery. Other products I buy online deliver in 3-4 days. Product Great, Delivery... could be faster. 651713

Product came on time and in good condition. Installation is easy for DIY and I had no problem. I own a 2009 Chevy colorado and the unit works perfectly. I rented a trailer from home Depot and the tail lights worked as designed. I got this unit because I didn't want to do any wire splicing or soldering. I only used a drill for a screw to attach the unit to the truck frame with also some RTV and a few zip ties. I would buy again if need be. 629530

It was great! After a year of frequent use taking on a salt water the wiring harness works great!! As a former Electronics Technician my only recommendation would be to highlight the importance of a good ground connection. Because many trailers are typically constructed of solid metal this is not a problem. But where modifications are made using wood and other non-ferrous metals a bad ground will interrupt the system. 430413

The harness installation instructions mad it easy. The ordering process limits my choices to only what works for my new(old) truck. I am a truck novice so I was nervous that I was going to screw it up. I ordered the hitch from etrailer.com too. That installed smoothly as well. The staff is very responsive. I couldn't be happier with my experience. 359714

I'm not certain how easy pie is (I'm to busy making my truck cooler, but this must be as easy or easier. You'll lay down behind your truck, and you'll luck at the back of the rear bumper. There you will see a big flat pin connector and you'll unclip it and then using strategic reasoning skills you'll plug the correct end of the new fancy deal from etrailer into those two spots you just created. Then you'll just need to get a self tapping screw and mount the ground to something metal, preferably not the color of the truck (that's the bed, don't screw it into that). Then you're freaking done and you can tow stuff legally! 354962

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2007 Chevy Colorado
  • Actually to install a 4-way in your 2007 Chevy Colorado all you would need is the part # 118301 that plugs right in to factory wiring on your truck. There would be no need to hardwire anything at all. Also, since your truck has separate turn signals from brake lights you couldn't just hardwire a 4-way to the wiring anyway so the # 118301 would be your best option. It sounds like you installed the Tow Ready Wiring Harness # 118301. I...

However, if your Colorado did not come with a factory 7-way then you will need to run the brake controller wires yourself. In order to run the wires yourself you will want to use our Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers part # ETBC7. This kit will...
