Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2018 Nissan Frontier we're gonna be showing you how to install the Tekonsha 7-Way Vehicle Wiring Harness but before we get into that, why don't we just take a minute, check this out, and make sure it's gonna work for you. What this kit is going to do is utilize your factory connector plugs here at the back of your truck. That way you can plug into 'em and have a 7-way connector. So with this particular one, this'll be used in a couple of situations that I can think of. First one being, you know, use this as a replacement to your existing or your factory one.
So for whatever reason, your factory connector got damaged, or you know, no longer works, whatever the case may be. You could always pick this one up, plug it right at the back and get going again. Also, what you could do, like what we did on our vehicle today, is use the, so let's say your truck does not have a a factory tow package, okay Or it don't have an existing or factory connector plug already on it. You can pick up the Tekonsha Wiring Kit. It comes with the 4-way flat wire, all right And it'll come with another harness and some relays and stuff, to activate, so to speak, your tow package.
And you can use this in conjunction with that. So once you have that plugged in up there, let's say you don't need a 4-way back here, you want this 7-way, you can pick this up as well, and this will work in conjunction with the relays and everything up there. So you can have an operating 7-way here at the back. So if that's what you're going for, it'll save ya, you know, by using this, save you quite a bit of time and hassle, not having to run individual wires and things like that. The 7-way connector is pretty standard.
You know, it's right on par with just about all of 'em. Has a little lever there where you can easily lift up on it, spring-loaded and sealed, and it's of good quality, you know, so it should last. Lasts for a while. From time to time you can apply some dielectric grease to the terminals just to help protect it against corrosion and things of that nature. Being a 7-way, you're gonna get your turn signals, your brake lights, your taillights, 12 volt auxiliary power, reverse lights, and then if your truck's equipped with the brake controller, you put one on, it'll cement output as well.
But other than that, you know, at the end of the day, it's a good option for those of you trying to replace your busted one or, you know, use this in conjunction with that 4-way kit to actually have a 7-way back here and get you going. The bracket doesn't come included but we'll talk about that in a little bit. And as far as getting this installed, really not a whole lot to it. You plug it in, essentially. There's a couple connections you plug right in, mount this up and that'll get you going. So if you'd like to see how it's done, feel free to hang around. We'll go ahead and hook it up together, now. To begin our installation, we're gonna be here at the back of our truck and first thing we're gonna do is get our harness, the connector plugged into the wiring harness. So I recommend taking some dielectric grease here and on the terminals, if we just apply it to it, it's gonna help with corrosion, preventing corrosion. So just put a layer over it there and then our connector plug will simply just push right in. Now we're able to mount up our 7-way to the bracket. So this kit doesn't come with the bracket. If yours was damaged or you need a new one, this one that we're using here today seemed to work out really well. But we're just gonna feed the wire through it, line that on up. I'll take our screw and the nut, I'll get all these started hand-tight and come back and snug 'em down. Now underneath the vehicle here on the driver's side, we're gonna have a couple of connector plugs. And this is what our wiring's gonna actually plug into. So we have some dummy plugs that are put in ours, just to help protect the terminals, so we need to remove those. This one, there's gonna be a tab that you can push down on and usually these are really tight, so what I found that works pretty good, get a small screw driver, all right, push down on that tab and then you can grab a pair of pliers, and just slide that down and out. As opposed trying to get it with your fingers, you know, it's pretty snug in there. So I'm gonna do the same thing for this one as well. Pop that out and then we can grab our harness and these are just gonna plug right into it. So I went ahead and just zip-tied up our extra wiring. And now what we're able to do is test everything to make sure it's working properly. To check our wiring, I plugged in this tester, which is what I recommend doing as opposed to plugging into your trailer. And that's said because if your trailer has any issues it might mislead you into thinking it's something we did on this side of the vehicle. But I keyed on our ignition, we have our 12 volt auxiliary power. We'll try our left turn signal, our right turn signal, our brakes, our running lights, we'll put it in reverse. Okay, our reverse lights. And then if you had a brake controller, you could check that output as well, but ours isn't equipped with one so nothing to worry about there. But it looks like we're in pretty good shape and everything's working. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the Tekonsha 7-Way Vehicle Wiring Harness on our 2018 Nissan Frontier..

Replaces a damaged harness and 7-way plug for your vehicle wiring harness (118281). Does not include the relays needed to activate your vehicle's tow package.connectors on the truck are male ends and the wire lead seems to also have male ends so now I need to go to an auto parts store and look for an adaptor or another suggestion.
Simple connection. FYI: On the 22-24 Nissan Frontier the plug-in is left of your left knee, above the kick panel. It is the larger of the 2 white connectors. No need to take kick panel off.
I thought I would receive a better quality product. The metal used to make the connector should have been a heavier gauge. The price wasn't a concern, I want a product that will last me years of use. I can't say I have the confidence it will. The connectors are flimsy. The connectors I am hooking up to is made out of better material and I would expect the connector I purchased should be of the same quality.
The product I buy from you are great. I bought a hitch and trailer light harness. The harness is on back order , it may be 2 months. You’ve already taken my funds the moment I ordered. You had the hitch in stock and was going to wait for 2 months to ship. I had to call and insist you ship hitch . You did but why did I have to call? That’s bad customer service!
It works. The actual connector doesn't fit into the connector bracket on the OEM Nissan hitch receiver for the 2012 (and probably others) model year, but that's an easy fix with a new mounting bracket.
Sent damaged wiring harness…….delayed my installation and use.

This is definitely something that we do not like to see! I see that your new harness is on route to your address. Once you receive it and are able to install and use it, we would definitely appreciate your updated feedback of the product.
The trailer connector kit I ordered was an exact fit for my wiring harness. I had to drill two holes because the ones in the bumper were two large. Once I got it installed everything works great. The only thing I wish was different is that I could have purchased only the wiring harness, and not the receptacle, as I already have one to use.
Complete plug and play. Works well, with no issues.good quality.

After a year, its still going good. With no issues
It was easy to install and it has worked great!!! One plug for my boat trailer and one for my camper, all in one. Now if I could figure a way to haul both at the same time. :)
I always go with etrailer for any towing type stuff.
E Trailer exceeded expectations with my order of trailer wiring. The product was a very good price and the ordering process was very good. The product quality met what E Trailer described. I would order again from E Trailer.
I'm extremely satisfied with the product and service. I run an automotive repair facility and it is very important that the products we use are factory fit. Etrailer did a great job helping us decide what we need and getting it to us promptly.
Works perfect. It was fast delivery. Everything is plug and play. Took about 30 minutes to install and hook up connectors. Now it's time for camping.

I am happy to help. Would you be able to send pictures of the connectors that you are seeing? The connectors should mate together.
