Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - 118272

Quickly and easily install a 7-way, RV-style trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom wiring harness. T-One connector plugs into existing tow connector - no cutting, splicing or tapping required.

Features:

  • Provides a 7-way, blade-style trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Compatible with 4-pole, 5-pole and 6-pole adapters (sold separately)
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing of wires
    • Locate connection point behind rear tire
    • Plug in T-connector
  • Constructed of 16-gauge bonded wire
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the rear tire, on the passenger's side.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118272 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118272. This is the tow ready T-One vehicle wiring harness with the 7-Way trailer connector. This is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Ford Explorer starting in 2011. What I do recommend on a custom fit part is to always go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll tell you if this part will work for your application. This part provides a 7-way blade style trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights.

It does connect quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of wires. Basically all you have to do is, the T-connector would plug into a point on the rear of your vehicle and you take your wires here, unscrew these screws here so this would come out, run these wires through here, and then you'll have your connection points that you'll just have to connect these to. What I would recommend is, once you plug this in, instead of going color for color, once this is plugged in just test each wire with a circuit tester to determine what function it is and then just wire it up to the 7-way correctly. The T-connector, this will connect to a connection point behind the rear passenger tire. Basically what you would do is, there's a tow plug harness underneath the vehicle on the passenger side and the connection point is behind the rear tire, and it will have connectors that will match this T-connector harness. You just unplug it and you plug one into there and then the part you unplugged you'll plug into the other side, and then you'll be ready to go.

It supplies power to these wires. This part does come with everything shown here on the table. The wiring harness, the 7-way connector, some cable ties to tie up any slack in the wiring harness, and a nice set of detailed instructions that will explain how to install it and even shows some pictures of where the connection points are. That should do it for the review on part number 118272, the tow ready T-One vehicle wiring harness with the 7-Way trailer connector.

Product looks good however I haven't installed it yet due to the fact that I didn't order the mounting bracket for the plug. For others, you need to order the mounting bracket for this item unless you plan on drilling your bumper or vehicle body. 260208

Yes this will work if you don't have both cables on your factory harness. Just pull off the cap on the factory harness and put it on the fitting on the T connector that it fits on and plug the other one in to the factory harness. Easy to use, easy to install. Plugged into the back of the Hopkins 4pin/7way mount perfectly. 461994

After having an awful experience with a large chain camping store with the installation of the wiring on my vehicle. I was able to undo all the damage they did and use item #118272 to wire up my vehicle with a 7 point plug. It took me about 10 mins to wire the adapter in, while it took the company over 8 hours to cut into my wires (with only turn signals working) instead of using this adapter. Everything worked with no issues and was easy to install as the provided video described. 523604

I own a 2012 Ford Explorer Limited. This SUV was missing the wiring harness for the 7 way trailer plug. It also has the 4 rear proximity sensors for rear parking. This is the correct harness (118272) for my Explorer. Everything plugs in directly and has the correct plug for the Proximity Sensors. One thing you will have to do is connect each wire into the back of the 7 way. Directions and wire colors are correct. The wire ends will snap into the back of the 7 way. They only go in one way, so make sure you have the wire ends oriented the correct way, don't force anything. I tested the 7 way and the proximity sensors and everything is correct. The only issue is, this does not come with the 4 way connector. Which I don't need. If I ever do, I will just tap into the current harness and purchase the OEM 4 way Ford connector. 720010

Attached easily to existing wiring on my 2015 Ford Explorer. Only problem I had was it did not come with a plate to attach the plug to the tow hitch so that was disappointing. Had to make my own, lucky I had a plate from an old set-up that I configured for my use. 655982

Product shipped quickly! Went together exactly like the videos. The reason for only 4 stars was the zip ties were too small and the bracket to attach the plug had screws to drill into the bumper but we wanted to bolt onto the provided bracket on the hitch. 634368

It turns out this was a very simple kit to install. Other than the challenge of hiding the unused pass through plug behind the heat shield, it was very easy to complete the install. I installed it on a 2016 Ford Interceptor Utility PPV (police pursuit vehicle). The Explorer did not have any wiring behind the trailer plug, just a dust cover. Once plugged together, I routed the harness out of the way of the exhaust and plugged it into a Hopkins HM40950 in order to have a four flat connector in addition to the 7way. This is a very well engineered product. 494276

If you have an Explorer, you most likely have factory wiring for a tow harness, even if it came without the tow package. All the wiring was there, except for the 7 pin harness. Super easy to install, everything went together in minutes. This kit came with everything I needed. 422359

The wiring harness (pn 118272) fit perfectly, no problem. A little daunting to get the factory connectors apart but after that, simple The hitch (pn 76034) fit like a dream. HOWEVER, I had to make a trip to get replacements for the 7/16 x 2.5 carriage bolts -- could not in any way tighten the nylon lock nut because the stove bolt shank could not be held in the slot. The replacements were 12mm x 60mm carriage bolts. Draw-tite should change their hardware. Also, the bolts provided to attach the hitch to the car frame were standard zinc coated -- the factory bolts I removed were galvanized. Again, Draw-tIte should change their hardware The trailer socket with mounting bracket (pn HM40975) just plain will not fit on my car unless I mount it below the receiver (not a good idea). Not sure what I'm going to do yet but may have to fabricate something. Overall, great product but be prepared to use other than the hardware provided by Draw-Tite. 406736

I ordered this harness for a 2017 Ford Explorer without the tow package. The install was quick and easy. I have backup sensors, so there was an existing factory harness connection. I was worried that I would be missing the power for my brake controller and for the 12v trailer battery. My truck had a brake controller port beside the steering column. I verified that all the fuses and relays were in the fuse box. Since I don't have a trailer yet, I tested with a light probe and a multimeter. Using the probe, I was able to determine that all of the wiring was there. To test the brake controller function, I set the boost level on my brake controller and meassured the blue wire while activating the manual override. I adjusted the boost voltage and measured the voltage 2 more times to verify proper operation of the brake controller. I am confident that this harness will function when I pick up my trailer. 387595

  • Do Trailer Hitches for 2018 Ford Explorer Affect Hands Free Liftgate Operation
  • The Draw-Tite # 76034, Curt # C13386 and etrailer.com # e98867 trailer hitch receivers that are designed for your 2018 Ford Explorer will allow the hands free lift gate sensor to work. However, you will need to activate it by putting your foot to the side of the hitch receiver opening with both hitches. The sensors will not recognize your foot through the hitch unfortunately. You would not need to relocate any sensors either. I've linked videos of both hitches being installed for you....

If the trailer you're going to be towing requires a 7-way connector, the Tekonsha 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118272 is what you will need. This connects to the car at the same location the 4-way does under the rear...

  • Does 7-Way # 118272 Fit 2016 Ford Explorer
  • For your 2016 Ford Explorer the Tekonsha wiring harness part # 118272 is a confirmed fit. This will fit whether or not you have the tow package. It fits both configurations. You have the connector on your vehicle that this will plug into and all of the pins will be active.

  • 7-Way, Brake Controller and Install Harness for 2013 Ford Explorer
  • The 7-Way Harness part # 118272 is a confirmed fit for your 2013 Ford Explorer. This comes with the 7-way connector and harness that runs up to vehicle wiring but does not come with brake controller wiring. For that you would need the part # 3035-P for an install harness and then a brake controller. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup....

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2016 Ford Explorer with Reverse Light Circuit
  • Easiest solution would be to replace the 4-way part # 118540 that you have installed on your 2016 Ford Explorer with the 7-way part # 118272 which uses the same install point at the rear of your vehicle. The reverse light circuit will be present here on the center pin. To convert the 7-way to a 5-way you'd then want the # A75TB. Or the other option you have would to keep your 4-way and then install a 5-way adapter to it. For that you would want part # C57187. The issue here is that...

  • Will a Tow Ready 7-Way part # 118272 be Fully Functional on a 2016 Ford Explorer
  • You can test all of the pins on the trailer connector for the 2016 Ford Explorer that you have found to see if they are all active with a circuit test like part # PTW2993, but I can tell you now that they should be (minus the brake output since you don't have a brake controller) all active. So to install a 7-way all you would need is the part # C56278.

  • 2015 Ford Explorer Sport Brake Controller Install Recommendation
  • First you'd want the 7-way part # 118272 which is confirmed as a fit for your 2015 Ford Explorer Sport. With this installed you'd only need the P3 # 90195 for the brake controller and the # 3035-P for the install harness for your vehicle and you'd be set. In the install video I attached you'll see where to find the connector to install the controller.

  • Troubleshooting 7-Way Install on 2018 Ford Explorer
  • Though the Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector # 119190 is a universal hardwire kit, you will not need it with your 2018 Ford Explorer if you already have the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118272. The problem almost certainly is the 7-way connector was wired incorrectly after you plugged it into your Explorer, or that you have not fully seated the wires into the connector. If you take a look at the cut out of the linked installation instructions...

  • Is 7-Way Wiring Harness and 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket Compatible on 2012 Ford Explorer?

  • 7-Way Wiring Kit for 1999 Ford Expedition
  • For a 1999 Ford Expedition with factory-installed 7-way the replacement connector is part # A10-7072VP. For a combination 4-pole/7-way instead you could use # HM40975. Both connect with a round U.S. Car Connector like the one shown in the linked photo. If the Expedition has no factory trailer wiring you can still have a 7-way. You will start with the plug-and-play 4-pole kit # 118344 which installs at your tail light connectors with no cutting or splicing. If you need only basic lighting...

  • Installing Trailer Wiring on a 2014 Ford Explorer
  • The trailer wiring harness for your 2014 Ford Explorer is actually quite easy to install. Take a look at the picture I've attached. There are two connectors at the rear on the passenger's side. The wiring harnesses we carry, like part # 118540 for a 4-way and # 118272 for a 7-way, plug in to these two connectors.
