Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear driver's side of your vehicle. You will find the harness attached to a grommet between the wheel well and the bumper. Once you've plugged in the connectors, insert the included fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on our 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe well install the Tow Ready T1 Connector, part number 118258. First lets go ahead and identify the manufacturers plugs or towing port that well be plugging into. Here on the drivers side underneath the vehicle behind the rear axle or tire are the two ports that are built in by the manufacturer. Well be connecting into these ports, but first were going to go ahead and disconnect them from the vehicle, push the grommet back into the interior of the vehicle and feed them back into the cabin. Now with them disconnected and fed into the cabin well go ahead and get inside the vehicle. Were going to remove the two storage trays and the drivers side quarter panel.

To remove the rear storage tray well need to go ahead and remove the spare tire jack and tools and set it aside. To remove the rear storage tray well remove the three fasteners and pop free the rear threshold as its a one piece unit. To remove the threshold well use our trim panel tool or a flat bladed screwdriver to pop the plastic fasteners free from the sheet metal. Now well go ahead and set it aside for reinstallation later. Next well remove the forward storage tray.

It has a total of five fasteners that will need to be removed. Once its removed we can take the storage tray out of the vehicle and set it aside. Next, were ready to go ahead and remove or loosen the drivers side rear quarter panel. Well first remove the cargo hook and then weve got three fasteners, one at the threshold and two in the lower portion side of the quarter panel. Next well go ahead and remove the rear access door which will assist us in loosening the quarter panel from the sheet metal.

Now with the access panel removed and set aside well go ahead and start at the rear threshold and work our way up. To loosen the quarter panel well need to pop free the fasteners from the sheet metal. Now that weve got the quarter panel loosened enough that we can gain access behind it, well go ahead and reach into the cavity of the quarter panel and pull out the ports that we loosened earlier. Now that we have access to the two ports well go ahead and remove the caps. To remove the cap press on the lock and just go ahead and remove the cap and set it aside as it will not be reinstalled.

Now we can take our new Tow Ready Harness and plug it in line with the manufacturers. As you can see, the Tow Ready Harness plugs will match up to the manufacturers. Lets go ahead and make those connections now. Next well need to mount the converter box. To mount the converter box youre looking for a clean flat metal surface to attach it to. Well go ahead and remove the double-sided adhesive and attach it inside the body cavity and out of the way. Now we can take the new 4-pole connector and route it through the hole that we pulled our tow ports through and down underneath the vehicle. Next, well go ahead and get underneath the vehicle, pull the rest of our 4-pole connector through and reseat the new grommet. Now we can take the 4-pole wire and run it to the center of the vehicle and down to the hitch and well go ahead and secure it with some black zip ties to the hitch. Now with our 4-pole secured and zip tied well go ahead and cut off the excess from our zip ties to clean up our install look and well move back to the cabin of the vehicle where we can go ahead and take the remaining wires, tuck them into the body cavity and reinstall the interior trim panel and cargo trays. Now with everything reinstalled this will complete the install of our new Tow Ready T1 Connector, part number 118258 on our 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Everything was great, except the wiring kit..The fuse replacement holder does not need to go into the wheel well as shown on instructions. If you had to replace you have to tear everything out to get to it...BAD BAD... I fixed it where I have it behind where the car factory has the connectors.... This needs to be changed. 397105

Painless to order. Quick delivery. Works as advertised. Decided to just hook it to the connectors, zip tie where convenient and remove the harness when not needed as opposed to removing panels etc. 519686

Quick install on my 2012 Santa Fe that had trailer prep package. All the work is done under the the car. I first removed the rubber gromet and added about 2 feet of flex tubing because all the wiring is exposed to the elements. All I had to do next just was plug in 2 connectors, route the cable and put on a couple of wire ties. 36222

Product quality very high, delivery very fast, shipping container (cardboard box) was not strong enough to support handling/shipment, box bottom was ruptured with hitch assembly hanging out, box should be supported stronger, no parts missing, hitch was scratched up somebut, nothing that a little black paint didn't fix. I installed the wiring harness connections and fuse box on the external side of the vehicle to eliminate having to take apart the internal sheet metal panels and providing easy access to the fuse in the event of fuse failure, this eliminates the necessity of interior Panel removal to change a fuse. Easy installation, product has great great design features ,great customer service with prompt delivery. Just ordered the bracket (#18140) to secure the 4 prong plug to the hitch neatly and secure to eliminate the loose plug. (not shown in photos (Bracket in transit), 707901

Think this is even better than the previous version. Do have a question as the power/fuse tag specific a 10 amp fuse, but it had a 15 amp fuse installed. Is this CORRECT????? Also used 3M tape to secure it as it does not now include 2 sided tape. Works Great and Super Service. Was delivered as promised immediately after the hurricane!!! 700354

Comments

I have confirmed with my contacts at Tekonsha, and there was a slight design change. My contact explained that ether the 10 amp or the 15 amp fuse would work properly with the harness.

Prefect fit went in easy only complaint would be that three wire ties weren’t enough used 4 more to make it snug had to scrounge for some double sided tape would have been nice to have everything I need to do the job. No big deal got the job done in about an hour and it works great 493840

Wiring harness is just fine. I made the mistake of buying this harness from a local professional shop. The installation was incorrect--I had taken with me a portable computer to show the video and to pull up copies of the directions but the professional would have none of it. The printed version of the instructions were adequate and coupled with the video was perfect. I did the install myself. I canceled the local shop and found etrailer. Even if you're a 70 year old lawyer with no experience with installing this harness, you will do better to handle this chore yourself. etrailer works. I know I should support the local places, but as time passes, I find myself doing on-line. Actually the people on-line are nicer. 486478

Functions advertised. POOR design (for Hyundai Santa Fe) puts fuse and connections behind interior body panel. Significant disassembly required if fuse blows. Previous model much easier to install and fuse & connectors could be serviced without disassembly if required. Installation video is fairly accurate, but does not make apparent potential for damage to body panel clips. Product pricing is consistent with similar products in market. No issues with shipping. Overall, have had good luck with etrailer and would use them again in the future. 266945

I received the hitch and light kit in 4-5 days from order placement. Installing the hitch was not a problem and it fit perfectly. The only recommendation is to be sure to clean the bolt holes on the car frame with lubricant and a small diameter wire brush as this will help during installation. Installing the light kit was a breeze and took less than an hour. 209364

  • Is LocTite Needed When Installing Draw-Tite Hitch on a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75471 comes with lock washers that you use for the install so LocTite isn't necessary or recommended by the manufacturer. You are correct, the tab to the left of the receiver is for mounting wiring like part # 118258 or # 118415 to your 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with a bracket like part # 18144.

  • Correct Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2011 or 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe with Towing Package
  • At this time the correct choice for the 2012 Hyundia Santa Fe SE with towing package is the Draw-Tite custom fit wiring, # 118258. Draw-Tite has tested this harness on the 2011-2012 models and verified that it will work without issue. I have attached a link to the installation instructions for you to review also. You should verify, with a circuit tester, # 40376, that the connectors on your Santa Fe are fully functional before purchasing the tow package wiring harness. If one or more...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS
  • If the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe came with a tow package, it should have already had a wiring harness. The Tow Ready harness # 118258 is a replacement. But, it is still possible for the vehicle to have the connectors for the harness. If the connectors you found are not matching up, it could be the wrong connectors and you will have to continue searching for the right ones. If the vehicle never had a wiring harness before, or you cannot find the connectors and what to try something else,...

  • Installation of Draw-Tite Tow Package Wiring Harness # 118258 on a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • The Draw-Tite Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, part # 118258, is designed to connect to the trailer input connectors on the inside of the vehicle to protect the connection of the connectors and the Modulite converter box from the elements. The installation you have described will work, it will just not allow the protection of the converter box from the elements. You will want to make sure that you support the converter box and make sure none of the wiring harness will be damaged...

  • Trailer Hitch with Most Ground Clearance for a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • When we installed the various trailer hitches available for the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe we found that the Curt hitch # 13538 was slightly higher than the Draw-Tite model # 75471. The Curt hitch measured 13-3/4 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. The Draw-Tite was 13 inches. To the bottom of the receiver on the Curt hitch it will be approximately 2-1/4 inches less than 13-3/4 inches so approximately 11-1/2 inches. I have linked a video showing installation for you. If...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Options for a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • The Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, # 118258, is designed as a replacement for a factory wiring harness and/or for those 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe models that have a towing package. If your Hyundai Santa Fe does not fall into this category then you need # 118415. If this does describe your Santa Fe, then you are correct, the connectors and converter are designed to remain in side the vehicle. The point at which the connectors are pushed through from the outside to the inside...

  • Correct Wiring Harness to Provide a 4-Way Trailer Connector on a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe LTD
  • If your 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe has a factory tow package, you can use the Draw-Tite Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118258. The plugs you describe sound like the correct ones for this harness. According to our installers, the connection point is located underneath the vehicle, inside the lower body panels on the drivers side, next to the muffler. I have included close up images of the harnesses plugs below. If they look like a match with what you have found, then this is probably the correct...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with Factory Tow Package
  • For the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with the factory tow package, you would need the Custom Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118258. The harness would plug into the connector that is located underneath the vehicle inside the lower body panels on the driver side next to the muffler. I would also recommend a mounting bracket, part # 18144, and it would be a good idea to use dielectric grease like part # 11755 between the connectors. The grease will protect the plugs from moisture and corrosion. For...

  • Will Installing Draw-Tite # 75684 on 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Prevent Lowering of Spare Tire
  • As you can see in the provided photo, installing the Draw-Tite Class III receiver on your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe will somewhat obstruct the spare tire. You will still be able to deploy the spare tire if while lowering it, you push the edge of the tire toward the front of the vehicle until it clears the hitch. The hitch on my wifes van is obstructed in exactly the same manner, and I can tell you from experience that getting the spare lowered is no big deal. If you were planning...

  • How to Determine if a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe has a Tow Package
  • From the research I did the easiest way to determine if you have a tow package would be to check to see if your 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe has a transmission cooler mounted in front of the radiator. A transmission cooler looks basically like a miniature radiator that will be mounted in front of the radiator. If your vehicle has a transmission cooler then you know it has a tow package. You can also look under the driver side wheel well to see if the connections are there. Check out the video...

  • Can the Draw-Tite Wiring Harness # 118258 be Installed Outside of a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • You are correct, the purpose of pulling the wires into the vehicle is to protect the converter box from the outside elements, but also to protect the T-connection points between the wiring harness and the vehicle connectors and to protect the in-line fuse on the wiring harness. I would recommend against leaving the entire wiring harness outside of the vehicle because of the many different parts that need to be protected from the outside elements and if any moisture enters the converter...

  • Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe
  • There are two wiring harnesses available for the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, but one of the harnesses, # 118258 is a replacement harness for vehicles that came with the OEM tow package wiring, so it will not work on vehicles that did not come with trailer wiring from the factory. If your vehicle did not come with trailer wiring, or you are not sure, the best option is to go with the T-One Wiring Harness, # 118415, which will work on the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe whether or not it has the factory...

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe with 4-WayTrailer Connector
  • In order to add a 7-Way trailer connector to your 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe on which you have already installed a 4-Way (118258) you have a couple of options. First, if you just want the basic lighting functions and nothing else then you would just need an adapter like # 37185. The 4-Way end will plug into this adapter, then you will ground the white wire to the frame and tape up and stow the other wires out of the way. If there are functions on the trailer like electric brakes and 12 volt...

  • 4-Way Trailer Wiring for a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with or Without a Factory Tow Package
  • The plugs you found on your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe sound like they go with the Draw-Tite T-One Vehicle Wiring, # 118258. After you remove those caps, they should look more like the connectors in 30159. If you found the plugs on the driver side near the muffler then this is the harness you need. If you are not certain you can have the dealer run the VIN to see if your Santa Fe has the factory tow package. If it does, those are the right connectors and the 30159 harness is the one you need. • To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 on your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe, you will need to do some cutting and splicing. This is not a difficult process when you have a 4-way trailer connector and use the Universal Brake Controller Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit gives you everything you need to make a trailer connection for a trailer with brakes. It includes all the wiring, circuit breakers, and connectors for installation. This will allow your brake controller to communicate...

  • 5-Way Trailer Wiring Harness Needed for Surge Brakes
  • We do not have any plug-in style 5-wire harnesses, but you can use a 5-wire adapter like the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Adapter, # 20036, or the Hopkins 4 Pole to 5 Pole Adapter, # 47515. These adapter would require a 4-way wiring harness to be installed first, then the additional wire from the adapters would splice into your vehicles reverse light circuit to actuate a surge brake electric lockout.

  • Where Do Yellow and Black Wires of 7-Way and Brake Controller Install Go
  • The white wire wire needs to be grounded so you can run the ring terminal of the adapter to the frame of your vehicle with a self tapping screw. The yellow wire is an accessory circuit that some will use as a reverse light circuit. If not needed you don't have to use it and you can tape it up out of the way. The 20 amp breaker should be used for the power wire for the brake controller and the 40 amp for the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way. So 20 amp for the black wire of the...
