Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the converter, insert the included 10-amp fuse into the integrated fuse holder.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area. Adhere the black converter box to the frame of the car using the double-sided tape provided. Secure any loose parts of the T-connector with the provided cable ties.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. Connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.Package arrived ripped apart. All staples used to secure box were ripped open.Large tear in corner of box. Wiring kit for hitch was stapled to inside of box.Who puts staples into a box containing wiring. Waiting for a response from customer support. etrailer probably doesn't care , they got my money
This is my second hitch from etrailer. Super fast shipping. Ordered new hitch for my Subaru CrossTrek Wilderness. Install was fast and easy. The wiring harness was a snap to install.
Looks great. Garage did a great job installing it. One of their recommended installers. I prefer the powder black finish of the etrailer brand. Bike rack mounted on it is solid. Hoping this gives us many years of no frills use. Had the wiring harness installed just in case
I have had and installed my products from etrailer and never had a bad experience. All the hitches and wiring have been great without any problems. Delivery has been quick and right on time. Products have been packaged well with quality control. installation video make installation easy. The only problem I have had was when my son in law was having a problem with his trailer and decided to test it by plugging into one of my vehicles and blew the electronic module, not the products fault just a diagnostic IQ problem.
Came as fast as lightning, the instructions for a 2018 Subaru forester were incorrect, the plug assembly is tied up on the drivers side aft most side wall panel, pictures added, not on floor as shown in the instructions and on etrailers video, took a bit of hunting to find it, but after that it took more time to clean up.
The wiring harness was straight forward and very easy to install.

It is very good and has worked well. Again, it was easy to install.
bought a trailer hitch and this light kit for my Subaru hitch is very well and the light kit works perfect would buy again if needed
Hey etrailer! I love you guys products. However, I bought this one to replace my old one that went bad (after about 2 years, so no biggie). But, it stopped working after only 1 trip. Any idea why this would happen??
For reference, on my old wiring harness, the right blinker stopped working, that's why I bought a new one. It worked for one trip, now the right blinker won't work again. I have 2 trailers, and I'm getting the same issue on both trailers, so I know it's not the trailer issue.

Hey Anthony. Its not very common for two harnesses to have the same issue. Best place to start would be to check your fuse panel to make sure there isn't one out. They most likely would be marked with "TLR" or just say trailer. If those are all fine, you would want to move on to check the wires going into the plug on the vehicle side. You can use something like part # PTW2993 to do that.
Pull our trailer with dirtbikes almost every weekend, works great. Glad I had a step drill bit for the installation because the holes in the frame of our subaru were too small to fit the hardware into.
The hitch was fine. Very Easy install.
Only problem was the packaging. It was packed extremely poorly. It was allowed to freely slide around inside the box and the hitch broke through. When delivered, it was actually falling out through a hole in the box.
NOT GOOD!
If this had been anything fragile, it would have been ruined.
This seems to be an ongoing problem with Etrailer---from what I see in all your reviews, the packing is at the top of the complaint list and no one seems interested in chaging tings.
I'm seriously disappointed. For the second time in 2 months I received a receiver hitch which was battered and bent beyond installation. You guys really need to package your products better because the delivery people don't seem to give a damn about how they handle things.
Love it. You guys always have the best information, advice and products. Well done with this product too. Everything you need is included in the order, other than an electric drill. Plenty of length too. I was able to run it through the grommet under the spare tire and link up to the trailer pin. I can’t stand the idea of just letting the wire run under the trunk hatch since it needs to be hooked up to my bike rack.
Easy install on the 2022 Forester. Factory wiring harness trailer connecter located on the left side cargo area by the taillight. Lift up the spare tire deck and it's there.
It is pretty straightforward installation. Just find the connector in your car and you are good to go. Just have trim removal tools and screwdrivers to reach to the necessary location.
Easy installation, was exactly as descr ibed.

Shows no corrosion and is working fine.
Hitch is great and seems to be of awesome quality. Directions in the package were useless and the install video on here doesn't show/mention anything at all about the spacers that are supposed to be utilized for the enlarged frame ports. Had to resort to YouTube install vids of other brand hitches to figure out what/where they were supposed to be used. Would be much easier with a second person but I managed with the use of my floor jack and a ratchet strap.
I LOVE that there was an install video for my exact model of car, and the install process took me maybe 20-30 minutes with lots of referencing back to the video. It was super straightforward and it was a clean install.
The only reason to give 4 starts instead of 5: I think the product was either very old or stored somewhere that wasn't climate controlled. There was mild corrosion on the connector pins and the two-way adhesive pad did not work at all (zero stickiness, dried out film). I conveniently had my own 2-sided tape around otherwise the install would have required a last minute trip to the hardware store.
Seems to do it’s job perfectly. Our mechanic who I had instal it on my Subaru Outback said it was pretty simple and easy to install.

Still does the job! No complaints here!
I have purchase the 2 inch receiver hitch for my 2024 Subaru Outback. I also purchased the trailor light kit. Both were well made and super easy to install. The videos were spot on with what to expect. I definitely recommend these products.
Everything I have bought from Etrailer seems to work very well. Shipping is reasonably fast and this company has quite a selection of helpful trailer accessories.
I had to remove partially installed tow hitch because it did not line up, spent over an hour loosening, tightening, etc to get in place, no good. Removed and got behind deck post to bend out. I was able then to get holes lined up and install. Wrong electrical sent. $15 to return
I have lost count of the number of tow hitches, etc. I’ve gotten from etrailer.com. All have been first class components and this wiring adapter was no exception. The video made it a simple installation. I don’t care for laying the harness across the tailgate opening. I prefer to run the harness down into the spare tire well and through one of the rubber plugs below the spare tire then right to the hitch itself. Works great!
Outstanding! I research how to install a wiring harness on a
Crosstrek and the video on etrailers was perfect. After viewing the installation video I ordered the harness. It came quickly and installation was very easy. Thank you
Easy installed, no need to pull the kick plate but beware the two plugs on the foam cover are hard to pop out. No leverage on foam. pop straight up using the body tool. You natually want to pry, which damaged the foam board.
Installed exactly as etrailer's videos show. Hardest part is tucking the converter box with half the wiring behind the panel so you don't hear any wire rattle.
