Features to know about

Effortless Installation: Plug-and-Play Design

Enjoy hassle-free installation with the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness. This ingenious design cuts out the need for any complicated cutting or splicing. It’s a tailor-made solution that fits right into your vehicle’s existing wiring, making it as simple as plugging in a connector. The installation is a breeze, with most users completing it in under an hour using clear video instructions, making it the go-to choice for DIY enthusiasts.

Perfect Compatibility: Custom Fit for Trailer Lighting

This harness ensures seamless performance with a built-in tail light converter that harmonizes your vehicle’s three-wire system with the trailer’s two-wire system. That means it perfectly combines brake and turn signals for flawless trailer light operation without altering how your vehicle's lights function. It’s a smart fix for those needing precise compatibility without the headaches of mismatched wiring.

Durability in Every Detail: Corrosion-Resistant Terminals

Keep worries of corrosion at bay with this kit’s protective connection terminals. Designed to tackle harsh environments, whether it's rain or shine, this harness withstands the test of time and weather. It includes a dust cap to shield the 4-way flat connector and comprehensive accessories like cable ties and terminal grease to bolster your connections.

Neat and Tidy: Stowage and Security

After installation, the connector stows conveniently beneath your vehicle near the trailer hitch, providing a neat setup that's both safe and efficient. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to secure the connector in place, ensuring it remains tucked away when not in use, protecting both the connector and your wiring.

Enhanced Convenience with Adapters Available

For those needing more than the standard 4-way flat connection, this harness supports adaptability with compatible 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters (sold separately). Whether you’re upgrading to more complex trailers or standard setups, this harness ensures you have the flexibility necessary to meet evolving towing needs efficiently.

Built to Protect: No-Corrosion Assurance

Concerned about the long-term reliability of your wiring when exposed to the elements? With this harness, you don't have to be. Designed with durability in mind, the included grease packet is a thoughtful addition for effectively sealing connections, helping prevent moisture intrusion and corrosion for peace of mind on every trip.

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting or splicing required.

Does not include all mounting hardware (sticky tape, screws, etc.) for control box, grommet is ziptied resulting in pinched rubber and is tied in an incorrect place resulting in too short of a terminal lead (connector side), terminal lead (beyond control box) is generally too short limiting control box placement, wiring intended to be exterior undercarriage is not loomed, primary wiring lead (vehicle connector side in front of box) is generally way to long as the mounting location is dictated by the terminal wiring length and creates an oversized bundle of wire to tie up and the 4 way flat connector is a proprietary design which requires a specific Hopkins mounting bracket (P/N: HM48595) and is stated nowhere in the product listing as being required and is certainly not optional if you seek using a bracket to secure exterior wiring (as you should be).

After being required to cut off the ziptie and elongate the terminal lead I covered the wiring harness with the loom, taped the end of loom on grommet side and slid loom into the nipple on the grommet (which is oversized for this reason) about an inch, reinstalled the previously cut ziptie to secure the loom inside the grommet, covered remaining length of harness in loom up to the connector & secured the loom to the connector with electrical tape.

Good product, poor execution and for this reason the product gets 2 stars.

2014 Subaru Outback Wagon

Double check to make to see if your vehicle already has the plug and wire for this harness or not. I took the protective cover off of the inside of my 2014 Subaru Outback trunk near the rear driver side wheal and found a plug and wire already routed to power, and compatible with this very harness. saved me a lot of work.

by:

Wires are shorter than in the picture. You have to drop your exhaust so you can lower hitch to pass wire harness between body and hitch crossbar otherwise wire will be too short. Grommet is WAAAAAY TOOO BIG! So unless you want to grind for an hour and hope you keep the hole round your only option is to cut the wires and drill a hole in the factory grommet. This also solves the problem of needing to drop the hitch. This would have been an easy job if the grommet was the proper size and the wire on the end the grommet is on was 6 inches longer. Luckily I had some stainless self tapping screws to mount it in the spare tire well because it wouldn't go any higher with the short wire

by:
2010 Subaru Outback Wagon

Easy to install. I had to access the wiring harness by the spare tire, then connect the trailer wiring. No cutting of wires or splicing is necessary. Plug and play.

Still working great after a year. No issues. I installed the harness for my Waverunner trailer.

by:
2018 SubaruForester

Friends: When I installed the trailer hitch I did not cut a section out of the heat shield above the muffler. Instead I drilled 5/8” holes where the bolts go through. The shield is already prepunched where it is to be drilled. I used butyl tape around the bolts to seal them and hold the bolts. For the wiring harness, I simply used Velcro to hold the unit to the inside of the spare tire well rather than tape.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek

The DYI videos
provided by etrailer.com provided a quick and easy how-to. It was literally as easy as watching the video on my computer and going out and installing it in 30 minutes. I also installed Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat, Item # 18144 and No-Drill Mount Bracket, Short, Item # 18140 and it looks great.

by:

It felt a little expensive, but after shopping realized it was the best product in price. It arrived in the mail today along with the hitch that I ordered from the trailer. The instructions were crystal clear, and I installed it in 15 minutes on my 2012 Subaru Forrester. I couldn’t believe how easy it was

by:

A perfect fit, includes all the pieces necessary, and has plenty of extra wire. I used double sided tape to stick my box to the inside of the spare tire compartment, everything is plug and play and it’s ready to go.

I used this wire harness along with the knockout plug adaptor part number 47605 on my 2017 crosstrek. It is very easy to use both on my crosstrek to make a clean look.

I purchased a hitch and wiring harness for my Subaru. My order was promptly filled and shipped. Everything went together smoothly and the how-to videos are outstanding. Big thumbs up to a great company!

Couldn't get any easier to install. Good stuff

by:

Super simple installation and works like a charm.

by:

excellent fit and built product for the trailer light connections.

by:

Great YouTube videos reviewing wiring harness options and how to install them!

by:

Easy to install and works great. I would recommend getting the mounting bracket that they offer (Item # HM48595) for the connector to keep it secured and easy to access.

by:

This system is easy to install and the grummet makes all the difference.

by:
2014 Subaru Outback Wagon

This was the easiest hookup ever. Subaru plug pulled relatively easy. Make sure you mount the electrical interface box low enough in the wheel well that it doesn't impede proper placement of the foam insert storage tray. I didn't really need this now but likely will in the future. Costs a little more but install and through wheel well to hitch frame makes it the perfect choice and fit for my 2014 Subaru Outback.

Pretty much the same comment applies a year later. Easy install, all good. Only thing is my 4 pin connector cover snapped off somehow and I need to replace it.

by:
Subaru

Easy solo-installation. Precut holes lined up perfectly and instructions were clear and easy to follow. Product performed with zero issues. My wife was rear-ended recently, the 5” rise hitch took the entirety of the blow. After inspections by Subaru they concluded there was zero damage to the car, frame and hitch receiver. 5” rise was bent and replaced. Not sure if its protocol to replace this despite the mechanic’s assessment but I included this to support the idea that this receiver is sturdy and well designed for use well beyond the capabilities of this car.

Wiring Harness works great! Installation was quick and as described. No problems what so ever with the harness. Every tow is safe and lit perfectly. Thank you for a quality, affordable product.

by:

Installation was simple once I found the connection point. The plug wasn't as easily accessible as the videos showed. Instead, you need to remove the cargo hitch point to find the short lead behind it. Once you have that, it's simple.

by:
2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Excellent set up & easy installation, hooked it up on my Crosstrek 2018. Work perfect and looks good installed, hidden and out of the way. Only problem I had was to have the 4 pin plug would not fit into the additional bracket they suggested as a mounting point.

The recommended 4-pole mounting bracket for your wiring harness is the Hopkins Fold-Over Mounting Bracket # HM48595.

by:

Glad one of the videos mentioned the difficulty of reaching the harness in Subaru Outbacks.

by:
2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Worked as advertised. Loved the ease of installation. On line videos much better than written instructions with package. Wish it came with a better mount on the trailer connection (just loops the cover through the safety chain loops), but that is only a cosmetic and subjective issue. I can always buy a separate mount if I want.

If you would like to mount the 4-way flat to the hitch I recommend bracket part # HM48595 that comes with self tapping screws to attach directly to the bottom of the bumper.

  • Can Hopkins Wiring Harness for 2013 Subaru Outback be Stored in Hatch When Not in Use
You can absolutely store the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143865 in the hatch of your 2013 Subaru Outback when you aren't using it instead of routing it outside the vehicle. The connector end will be long enough to hang outside your hatch when you need to connect it to your trailer. • What Hitch do You Recommend for My 2022 Subaru Forester?
Definitely! The main factors that determine the hitch are hitch receiver opening size (either 1-1/4" or 2"), weight capacity offered, and how the hitch installs on your vehicle. For example, if you are looking for a hitch that is compatible with most accessories and provides you with the most weight capacity, I recommend going with a 2" hitch like the Curt Hitch - 2" # C13409. Not only does this hitch provide you with the most weight capacity we offer for your vehicle (525 maximum tongue...

In order to tow with this hitch you will also need a wiring harness item # HM11143865 and a ball mount kit item # C45534.
