Video Transcript for Installing the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7 way on a 2024 Nissan Frontier

Hi, this is Scott with Etrailer and today, we're gonna take a look at and install our Tekonsha T-One seven-pole wiring harness for our 2024 Nissan Frontier. Our Tekonsha wiring harness will come with the traditional seven-way plug, and that will end up mounting right down here on the bottom of your hitch. But with this one, we went with a different option. we went for a Hopkins factory replacement for our Nissan Frontier. There's actually a place in the bumper that is meant for this style of plug, so that is the one we went with. It plugs right in just as it would with your seven-way, so that's a really nice option if you wanna stick with something that's a little more factory-looking.

This one, we did have to cut the bumper out a little bit just to key it out to make it fit for our plug. But the nice thing about this one is it did offer us the ability to go with the four-way plug or the seven-way plug and give it that factory look that we we inchesre looking for with this one. Outside of this optional plug that we installed, this setup will come with your two different wiring harnesses and your seven-way plug. With ours, we went with the wiring harness that plugs in right here in the back of our frame, and there's two plugs that mount in there, and they just run our wire up and plugs right into where we wanted it to go. And you could do that with either plug that you choose to go with.

It also comes with the plug harness that goes into our kick panel on the passenger side, and it also has its relays included with that, and the factory also has its setup with the wiring for that, all you have to do is find a plug, plug it in, tuck all your wires away, and you've got it all ready to go. There's no fuses you have to change out or anything, you just plug and play with this system. That's what makes this really nice, and it's basically like an OEM system you would get from a dealership. With this setup with the seven-way plug system, it's gonna give you everything you need to set up for towing with your trailer that has your seven-way plug. That's gonna give you your brake option for your trailer so you can have your controller inside there that will run your brakes for you.

It's also gonna give you all the lighting options you need for your brakes, your turn signals, your running lights and everything, that will all keep you legal. So if you're looking for a nice option for your frontier to make your towing a lot easier and safer and be set up for all your towing needs, this is a really great option to go with. It's gonna mount just like a factory harness would and it's really simple to install. If you wanna stick around, watch our video, and we'll help you get it put in. To start our installation for our wiring, our wiring is gonna have two parts, we're gonna have this part and this is gonna contain our relays.

And what this is gonna do is go down on our passenger side here and plug into a factory 12-plug connector, and that's gonna give us the controls for our wiring in the rear. Now, in the rear, we're gonna have two sets of plugs that are on our frame and we'll get them hooked up as well and we'll show you how to do that. But for now, what we're gonna do is we're gonna get our relays installed out here. Both of our relays here are the same, so they will go into these plugs right here. There is no difference, so it doesn't matter which ones they go to, they are both the same. And just give them a good push and give them the seat. And when you're doing them, just make sure you have your pins correct, you have the ones that go this way and you have the other ones that go that way, so make sure you have that correct and look down into your plug. Just push them on. Now we have our larger relay, and we're just gonna pop that in on top. Now we have these built, now we'll take our kick panel off on the passenger side and we'll get it installed. To remove our kick panel, we're gonna have a plastic screw down here and it's gonna be a flat head, all we're gonna do is just back that out and we'll get that out of the way. With that out of the way now, we can pull back on our panel. Now, what we had to do here is just pop up on this little kick panel right here where you get in and then up in, what we had to do is get our fingers up under and then kind of push and pull this way at the same time. Just get to clear all the plastic stuff under here, and we can pull the panel out of the way. Right behind this little piece of carpet, you're gonna find your plug. All we're gonna do is pull that back, it may have a little piece of tape here holding it back. We'll just pop that out. And now that we have it back, we're gonna see that we have a long line of them along the backside, and then we have two different sets of shorter runs here. We also have our clip side here on this side. So we're gonna look at our plug. And we see that we have our long set of them across the back, so we're just gonna line those up with the plug we have in our truck and click that into place. Make sure you get it seated good and it did click. Now what we're gonna do is we're gonna take the included foam and we're gonna surround these around our relays, that way, we don't have any rattle when we tuck them back up in here. We'll take our foam, peel off our backer, and get it around our relays. What this is gonna do is just keep them from rattling in there or making any kind of noise. We are gonna kind of support them in there a little bit, which will help as well. And we'll do that with all of them. Okay. We'll take our other plug in and just push it back and up and get it to go up as high as we can. And what that's gonna do is make room for our relays. And we just wanna get them to push back in here as far as we can to give us room. We'll take our kick panel and we'll reinstall it. Now, this part can be a little tricky, figuring out how to get it to go back up in there. What I'm gonna do is swing in the bottom first underneath our threshold here. Just get it to clear, be underneath the dash. And just take your time doing this part 'cause you are gonna need to get it to line up back in here to pop back in place. You don't really have to get crazy cranking this down, you can almost do it by hand and that would be enough. Just don't wanna strip it out, just get it down a little bit snug. And that's probably enough right there. Now that we have our relay harness installed, we can move on to the back driver's side of our frame. Here, we'll have two plugs, and each of these plugs will have a cap in it. So what we need to do is just push in on the little latch and pull down on it, sometimes, these can be a little tricky, so if you need to just push it real hard with something and then pop it down. That one came out pretty easy for me, just push in kind of hard and then pull it down. Now we can just set our caps off to the side. Both of our plugs on our harness are gonna be corresponding colored, so we have our black and our gray. We can just take our black, and we have our latch side here and our little clip. Let's push that into place. Now we can take our gray, have our clip side facing us, and pop it into place. Now, with those in place, we can just get our line figured out where we want it to come out, and we'll tie it up once we get our plug in place. Now, in your wiring kit, this would be the part where you would install your seven-way plug. Now, what you would need to do is right here, we installed a Draw-Tite hitch today, and we have a tab that sticks out. Now, what you would do is get a universal seven-way mount, and it would mount right on here, and then you would just plug into the back of that. And then that's where it would ride, and you'd be able to set up, and you just plug in your seven-way there. But we are gonna do something a little different today, and this is an option. Now, on the back of our bumper, it is keyed out in the metal section of our bumper where this plug will stand in as basically a replacement. And what this is gonna do is we're gonna cut out this section of our bumper right here. And behind here, we have this shape. So all we're gonna do, we get behind here and we'll mark out behind in that keyway and we will cut that out with a multi-cutting tool. And after we get that done, we'll be able to pop this right in here and it's gonna look like a factory plug-in. And we'll plug into the back of our harness back here. And that's gonna give us our seven-way plug here, and it's gonna give us our four-way plug option here. And it'll look like a factory-installed unit once we get it done. So now I'm just gonna start on it and we'll get it cut out and get ready to install our plug. (tool whirring) Now we can test fit our keyed hole and see how we look. Usually, I try not to cut a whole lot out, I'll leave some behind, 'cause you don't wanna cut out too much. So this way, I can see how much more I need to cut, and apparently, I need to cut more down on the bottom. Now we have our plug all set up and in place and in there nice and tight. Now we're just gonna plug in this part of our harness into our plug. We're gonna have our clip side, and we're gonna have our square part of our plug here, and we're just gonna plug right into that. Plug in until you hear it click. And now we can get our wire figured out where we want that to be. Now, we need to keep in mind that we do have our spare tire going back in place here. It's one of the things we just did, so it would make it easier for you guys to see. It's not really something that you have to do when you're doing this installation, we just did it so it's easier to get some shots for you. Now we'll just zip tie this wire up and we'll get our spare tire in place, and that'll do it for the installation of our seven-way wiring harness. And that was a look at our Tekonsha T-One seven-pole wiring harness for our 2024 Nissan Frontier. I'm Scott with Etrailer, thanks for watching.

Quickly and easily install a 7-way, RV-style trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom wiring harness. T-One connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting, splicing or tapping required.

One couldn't find an easier way to add trailer wiring to a Nissan Frontier, it's just plug'n'play! There is one complaint, though. I finally got electric brakes on my trailer, and almost burned up the brakes on the first outing. It appears that Nissan has the color codes for the electric brakes and the 12V lead reversed. This puts 12V to the brakes all the time. As simple swap of the wires in the harness solved the problem.

Been working flawlessly. I added a snow plow to the truck, and its wiring harness plugged right into this one.

@Chuck Great! Glad to hear things are still working, and that your modification did the trick. I don't know about you but we had a TON of winter weather here in Missouri this year. Did you use your plow a lot this season?

2012 Nissan Xterra

Perfect custom wiring kit for my 2012 Xterra which utilizes the existing pre-wired towing connectors next to the left rear wheel and the front passenger kick panel. After seeing some other examples in reviews for installing the 7-way connector ended up with a clean looking install through the rear bumper.

2014 nissan Frontier

Easy installation except, like a previous reviewer noted, my Gen 3 (2022) Frontier was sending 14 volts to the brakes and the controller was not seeing the electric brake units. I switched the two wires at the plug and everything is good now!

Product itself is great. Plug and Play taking off a star because the instructions call for pulling off the frame rail the existing plug which is not necessary and also the way that it's described in the video damages the plastic piece that holds it onto the frame rail it's supposed to slide down not be pulled directly off so now I have a broken plastic bracket and had to zip tie it to the frame. Otherwise easy install

by:
2013 Nissan Xterra

Okay, so I've finally had a day off to fully install the kit in my 2013 Pro-4X Xterra. If you're looking to do the same and are wondering if it has everything you need, don't worry, it does. I didn't time myself during install but I know it took me less than 20 minutes, you don't even have to remove the spare tire to hook up the wiring in the rear. Literally plug and play. It took me a lot more time to figure out where to install the connector.

Nissan went out of their way to make this an easy install if you don't have a factory towing package, this kit is worth it. Buy it, use it.

This kit worked great. It took about an hour to install on my 2005 Xterra. The process was just like the video on etrailer.com. The only difference was that I mounted the bracket directly to my bumper instead of the hitch.

2015 Saturn Relay

This #118266 7-Way connector harness kit contains everything needed to install basic trailer light wiring on ALL 2015 Xterras, regardless of trim level. The vehicles are completely factory prewired for a simple plug-in installation as described below (other recent model years are most likely also prewired, just check out my photos of the three connectors and see if they are on your vehicle. If you do indeed have the three connectors, the wiring harness plugs into the two factory installed connectors located on the frame, to the left of the spare tire area (one contains the wiring for the lights, the 2 conductor connector carries the +12v charge line and the brake control wire). The relay cable & relays are installed behind the plastic panel on the right side of the front passenger footwell. The trickiest part is removing that panel, along with the plastic doorsill trim to the right of the seat without damaging them. Be very careful not to break the plastic tabs and grabbers that hold both panels in place.

This harness kit does not contain a mounting bracket for the 7-way connector. I recommend the
#TM76474 bracket, necessary to mount the 7-way connector to your bumper.

If you do need to control electric brakes on your trailer(s), consider the additional two items, below. If you choose something other than a Tekonsha controller, you will need the short wiring pigtail that is compatible with that brand, instead of the #3050P.

#90195 Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller. An excellent, top performing unit. Other lower priced Tekonsha controllers may meet your needs.

#3050P Wiring pigtail. Connects Tekonsha brake controllers to the factory installed connector (see photo) under the dash, above the right side of the driver footwell. If you use a different brand of brake controller, pick out the appropriate pigtail to match it.

NOTE: There are apparently two major wiring standards associated with 7-way connections. One of them has the brake control line swapped with the +12v charge line. Make sure to check your trailer plug and wiring before hooking up to your vehicle. You may need to cut and cross the two lines leading to the vehicle’s 7-way connector. If you need to occasionally swap between the two wiring standards, install insulated male & female crimp-style connectors in the lines. Use heat shrinkable tubing over the connections to make them more resistant to the weather. For a more permanent, reliable connection, solder them instead of using the crimp connectors and apply shrink tubing over the joints.

Fast shipping and good quality product.
I didnt need the blue relays since my Pathfinder alreay had it. What I did need was the brown relay. Gray plug came with a 6 cable plug where mine in the truck was 8, I used the original plug that came with 4way, the color combination was exactly the same, I was able to replace the plug without cutting the cables. The black plug locked the wheels so I just switch the cables, there is a video here somewhere showing how to do it. Good on price, nissan was selling me the same setup for about 141 without the extra stuff that I bought. Found this webpage a while a go, and I always find what I need at good price. Thanks a lot!!!

Really easy plug and play kit. Removing inner cab plastic pieces is easy(er) if you have a plastic tool like the photo I’ve used these tools a few times for plastic trim removal and its been a good purchase. Anyway easy install as I said but I forgot to include the mounting bracket that attaches to my hitch bar and secures the trailer plug. Thats why you see the harness zip tied until I order that part. Then I’ll be done. Total time on this trailer wiring install on my 2020 frontier pro 4x was about 10 minutes.

Super easy to fit on my 2018 Frontier Pro-4x. Passenger panel came off easy, a little jimmying to get the plug covers off, but not too tough. I chose to drill through the bumper to install the plug receptacle, but even that was manageable for a moderate DIYer.

  • Location of Relay Jumper Harness Plug on 2012 Nissan Pathfinder
The relay harness is located behind the passenger side kick panel as shown in the linked installation video. If your Pathfinder has the factory 4-pole trailer connector, the relay jumper should already be in place. You can remove the passenger kick panel as shown at the 5:10 minute mark in the linked video. The jumper harness with the 2 blue and one brown relays should be pretty obvious. I'm assuming you're experiencing this problem because you've tried installing the # 118266 7-way wiring...

  • Weight Distribution and Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2011 Nissan Frontier
For a weight distribution system that offers sway control and the ability to backup without removing the spring bars or sway control, I recommend looking at our Blue Ox SwayPro systems. I have attached a link to all of the SwayPro systems for you to check out. In order to choose the best weight distribution for your truck and trailer, you will want to determine the total tongue weight of your towing setup. The total tongue weight will include the loaded and ready to tow tongue weight...

  • Trailer Hitch, Brake Controller, and Wiring Recommendation 2022 Nissan Frontier
First lets start with a hitch for your 2022 Nissan Frontier. For that I'd recommend the etrailer part # e98869 which has great towing capacities and is mostly hidden. Then for trailer wiring you would need to start with the 7-way kit part # 118266 which comes with brake controller wiring. Then for a brake controller I would recommend the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED24FR which only puts a small button on your dash instead of a large box like traditional controllers. Then to connect...

  • 2022 Nissan Frontier SV - Troubleshooting No Running Lights On Trailer
This is a known issue with certain Nissan models. A lot of times there will be some wiring already in place but no relays. The Tekonsha # 118266 comes with the necessary relays as well as the 7-way plug. It sounds like you already have the 7-way plug, in which case all you will need is the Curt Relay Kit # C57000. You will need to refer to your owners manual for the exact relay location. A lot of times it is behind the passenger side kick panel or under the dash on the left of the steering...

  • Recommended Hitch, Wiring Harness, and Brake Controller for a 2023 Nissan Frontier
To add a hitch to your 2023 Nissan Frontier you are going to want the Curt Trailer Hitch item # 13241. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Frontier with included hardware. I really like the Curt hitch because it installs behind your rear bumper and the crossbar is completely hidden. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 5,000 lbs towing capacity, and a 500 lbs maximum tongue weight. This towing capacity and tongue weight can be increased to 8,000 lbs and 800 lbs...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Wiring Harness For A 2023 Nissan Frontier
The Curt wiring harness # C56225 is not confirmed to fit the 2023 models of the Nissan Frontier, but do I have two options for you to choose from though. Option 1: The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118266. This wiring harness is completely plug-in so you won't have to hardwire anything, but it doesn't come with a 4-pole connector so you would need to use an adapter like # 47345. Option 2: The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector...

  • Trailer Hitch and 7-Way Wiring Fitment for a 2023 Nissan Frontier
From what I'm seeing it looks like the parts that are compatible with the 2022 Frontier are also compatible with a 2023 Nissan Frontier. So for your application I recommend using the following: Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - # 75282 T-One Vehicle Wiring - # 118266 Mounting Bracket - # PK12711U If you don't already have a ball mount I also recommend checking out the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount # BWTS10048B because of it's versatility. I usually recommend securing your investment with...

  • Recommended Brake Controller for 2025 Nissan Frontier
Hi Jake; for your 2025 Nissan Frontier I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED53CR. This brake controller is easy to use and incredibly reliable. It also includes a plug and play wiring harness which will fit the tow port under your dash making installation a breeze. The main unit installs behind the dash so only the control knob is visible. This will give it a nice clean look in your new Frontier and won't take up space. The knob controls the braking power and acts...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Not Functioning on Nissan Frontier
Trailer running lights not working with certain Nissan vehicles is a common problem with an easy fix. There is a relay for the trailer running light circuit that is located in the fuse box (in the cab). If that relay is missing or no longer functions, then it can be replaced with one of the blue relays from the Curt Relay Kit # C57000. The relay of the running light circuit on your Nissan Frontier is in the relay harness behind the passenger floor board kick panel. If you check out the...
