Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way harness is located behind the passenger's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the trunk floor coverings, storage tray, and rear scuff panel to access the harness. The power wire plugs into the factory wiring harness in your engine compartment, on the driver's side. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the postive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Curt vehicle wiring harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector for our factory tow package. Now, this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2018 and newer Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV vehicles that have the factory tow package, and the PHEV vehicles are the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. And on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle.
It'll show you if this will work for your application.Now, this does provide this 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is designed for use with the factory tow package. And this harness is compatible with five pole, six pole, and seven pole adapters that we do sell separately on our website. This will connect very quickly and easily. Basically just locate your connection point behind the passenger side rear access panel, match it up to this connector here, plug in your connectors.
Then you'll take this white ground wire that has the eyelet on it, ground this to a good clean ground, and then run this fuse power wire down your driver's side lower trim panel, and connect it to the vehicle's battery in the rear.It does include this black box here, which is a tail light converter. This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer. It is a powered module. That's why it'll connect directly to the vehicle's battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. And this converter does use the SMT technology, which is surface mount technology.

Will also ensure superior operation in rough road conditions.Now, this part does come with the dust cap for the 4-way. What you can do with that is just attach it to your 4-way plug, and then you can leave it on there if you'd like. And then when you're not plugged into your trailer, just put the dust cap over that and it'll cover the terminals.
Protect from any damage or from the elements.A few specs on this harness. Next, the amperage on the stop and turn light circuit is three amps per circuit. Taillights six amps per circuit. Does come with everything shown here on the table. A real nice set of detailed instructions with pictures that'll describe how this installs. But again, just simply what you'll do . As we mentioned earlier, locate your connection point, which will be in the passenger side rear access panel. It'll match this connector here. Plug it in, make sure it locks into place, and then you'll take the white ground wire that has the eyelet on it, connect it to the nearby ground, good clean ground. If there isn't one nearby, they do give you a grounding screw that you can make your own ground.And then this converter box, you do want to attach it to a nice flat surface, so it doesn't bounce around. They do include this double face tape that you can use to stick that down. Run your bonded wire with the 4-way out towards the back, and then your last connection will be your battery. This fused power wire right here, this will go down the driver's side lower trim panel. Connects to the vehicle's battery in the rear. What you want to do is you'll notice it comes with . includes this 10 amp fuse that you'll just install into the fuse holder just like that. Put your cap over it. Once you get your cap over there, then you're all ready to go. If you notice, it does give you some extra cable ties here to take up any slack in any wiring. But that should do it for the review on the Curt vehicle wiring harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector for the factory tow package.

Harness is basically plug and play except it was made for the battery being in the rear cargo area. Had to splice some longer wire to reach the battery in the engine bay. Still very simple to install.
This is the kit to get for an Outlander PHEV. Well designed, plug n play. I did have to use the included self-tapping tech screw for the ground wire, and the power lead to the battery requires that the installer attach the round yellow eyelet to the wire with a crimping tool, but this was an easy install
it is what it should be, but there is no long battery cable
