Video Transcript for Mighty Cord Replacement 7-Way Trailer Connector Installation - 2017 Ford Explorer

Hi, John with Etrailer. Hey, today in our bay, we have a 2017 Ford Explorer and we're taking a look at your seven-way power plugs. If these things get damaged, they're easier to replace than they are to repair. These are pretty common on your pickups like Chevy GMC. These would be common in the bumper area or possibly in the bed if you're towing a fifth wheel. These are very easy to replace.

They're OE quality. This is just the replacement plug. You're not gonna get any hardware or anything else with it, so if you have old hardware when you go to remove it, go ahead and hang onto it. Again, this is gonna plug directly into your harness. You can get some dielectric grease, if needed.

If it's dirty or anything, clean it up, put some dielectric grease in there, and this simply just snaps on, and then at that point, you would go ahead and mount it and put your existing bolts back in. Now, to get your old one off, I'll pull this out so you can see. The tab on the back, this is pretty common as well. You're gonna press that down and give it a tug and it comes right off. Okay, so, with this mounted up, it should work exactly like your factory harness so I like to always check it just to make sure.

So, lift that up and, if you have a helper, it's great time to tell 'em to get behind the wheel so we can test these out. Go ahead and give us left turn signal! Right turn signal! Brakes! Running lights! That's great. Now, on this controller, it also tests backup lamps and brakes. We're not outfitted for this on this particular vehicle, but on yours, you can go ahead and test that as well with this, and that's really all there is to replacing one of these seven-way connectors. They're not worth the time.

If you have one that's broken, it's not worth the time to repair it when you can get one and replace it quickly like this one, and that'll do it for our look at the Mighty Cord seven-way RV connector on our 2017 Ford Explorer.

Can’t speak for all 2024 Canyons but this is not a factory replacement for mine.

GMC Acadia

I ordered this when none of the lights would work on all three trailers I owned. After replacing the fuse and checking everything else it came down to this. It was a perfect fit and super easy to install. The wiring harness for my acadia is a plug and play so no splicing or sodering. I would highly recommend this product.

Easy installation and repair for broken housing that was like a splinter, glad to have it removed

Fit perfectly! Happy as can be with my trailer lights working. Thank you etrailer.com!

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

The 7-Way RV Style Trailer Connector for Factory Tow Package shipped quickly and fit perfectly in my RAM 2500 diesel bed. It was difficult to install only because the hole in the bed wall was rather tight so I had a difficult time pulling the cable into the bed to plug the replacement part in (no fault of the part). The Etrailer-provided part seems to be made of a much better/durable plastic than the one that needed replaced. The part that it replaced was cracked/broken in 2 places around the border including at one of the mount screws due to hard/brittle plastic. All the electrical connections work perfectly. Only improvement I would recommend is send replacement screws with the part--Luckily the screws were still in place, even at the one mounting hole that was broken. I was unable to find the correct replacement part at several other online sites. The brief instructional video on ETrailer.com was also very helpful.

I have to say that I've used Etrailer for all my trailer needs and have been so overwhelmed at the price and the product .. I'll never shop any other place .. why .. no one has ever come close to the savings I found here .. I bought my heavy hitch from here and couldn't be happier and this item was the perfect match to what I needed .. Thanks Etrailer !

It fit in my 2019 Volkswagen Atlas. I have yet to hook up to a trailer, but being an exact fit I do not expect an issue.

Doing great

by:

This worked awesome, I purchased the three way truck bed harness for my gooseneck and replaced the rear main
7 way at the same time.
E trailer shipped it quickly and there website pictures and instructions where great for the installation.

by:

Fit perfectly into place on my fifth wheel 7-way extension into the bed of my truck. The previous bracket broke and the trailer brakes quit making contact. This was the same as the broken one, and fit up perfectly and all contacts are working. I gave it a rating of four because the previous one (which was the same) broke after about 3 years of use.

by:

I had to put in my information on my truck and the plug I received was not the factory one. Had to drill holes instead of just the twist out plug that comes in a Silverado

Thank you for sharing. I researched 7 way connectors for a 2004 Chevy and found that part # PK11916 is a better option for a twist in plug replacement. It will fit with 2007 - 2013 ChevroletGMC 1500 trucks and 2007 - 2014 ChevroletGMC 25003500 trucks.

by:
2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Works fine. However I had to drill holes for screws to hold the connector in place. The original was just twisted in place.

No problems. Working as good as the original

Product worked well and we actually mounted not in the provided location in hitch but we but the housing wheeler you can mount it on the top of the hitch. This product has been working well for us and recommend to all. It worked well in our 2915 Pathfinder

by:

Wow great job to all, what service and the hitch, the plug for the lights, and the license plate holder, is all you said, and it took less than 15 min to install everything. What your company is doing right now, document , train and continue to do it, you have made this customer very happy and we will do business again! Sorry no pics because its hiding behind the roll pan just like you said it would!

Thanks

Fits if you want a gap in the factory bumper. Does not fit like factory connector.

I was so dissatisfied with customer service I kept the plug, and will not order from Etrailer again.

by:

I received the wrong part based on your recommendation. Here’s my exchange with your customer service rep :
Good Morning,

Thank you for clarifying.

Based on the item you want to return from your order, the return cost is greater than the part. Therefore, it would not be cost effective to return these items. I recommend selling locally to make your money back.

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Thank you,

Tiffany H.

Well, Tiffany, this is a good lesson for me. I buy a part from your company solely based on the recommendation of your representative. It arrives and it’s the wrong part. And I have no recourse. Not even an offer for a credit nor an offer to send the correct part. A complete waste of my time and money. Didn’t even receive an apology. Caveat emptor. Well, the lesson is learned. I will never do business with etrailer again. I will never recommend etrailer to my friends. And I will take every opportunity to disparage your company.

This Mighty Cord 7-way connector was an exact replacement. I received the part very quick and installation was easy and took all of 3 minutes...just plug and play.

  • Replacement 7-Way Mounting Bracket Solution for 2012 Chevy Tahoe
Hey John, so the factory 7-way mounting bracket of a 2012 Chevy Tahoe would have been built into the rear bumper so if that's rusted away what you'd need to do is use a bracket like the part # PK12711U which attaches to the lower rear bumper edge and has the universal 7-way mounting bolt pattern. If your 7-way mounts using a twist lock style attachment you'd also need to replace it with the part # A10-7072VP.

Unfortunately this style bracket is not available as an aftermarket part. You may be able to contact your local GMC dealer to see if they have this part available but if not your best option will be to use a standard 7-Way and bracket as a replacement. • Troubleshooting Right Trailer Brake Light & Trailer Brake Controller Not Working
Thanks for providing the details on your trailer wiring issue. Since you have three trailers that all show the same issue when connected to your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado odds are good that the problem is in the truck wiring. The first thing to check is the ground connection on the vehicle wiring harness. This wire's ring terminal must make a clean metal-to-metal connection in order to allow for all functions to operate properly. Corrosion can build up and cause issues. Try removing the...

You'll need to free the connector from the frame member and uncoil it so it will reach the rear bumper. The truck is indeed pre-wired for a brake controller.
