Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights.

Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

The wire harness looks easy to install. It is not. I had to remove all the rear cargo area covers and the leftside rear light fixtures only to determine that the part does not match the light connectors on myy 2025 Kia Sorento HEV. I am sending it back.

Hey Thomas. That doesn't sound like a pleasant experience. I do see you spoke to William and he's going to make sure you get a full refund on your order.

Wire too short to reach the other side of tail light. Even though this is consider custom fit to my car, but I had to retrofit it to make it work.

To be honest, it is not the first time we have heard of this. The manufacturer is aware of it however has not yet added to the length. If you have any other questions about the harness please let me know.

2009 Honda Accord

Installed on 2009 Honda Accord with V6. Piece of cake to install. I just use it for a bike rack that I already had. But note that I had an identical car with the 4 cylinder and I purchased the corresponding wiring harness and installed at the same time as a hitch on that vehicle as well, and I pulled a small trailer with a dirt bike for a couple of years. It worked out just fine. Never had any issues. High quality hitch and components. etrailer has always been really good to me.

by:

The wiring harness is as advertised and a good quality. The real reason I give the purchase five stars is because of the company and the employees that worked with me, help me with my order and kept me informed every step of the way. It’s refreshing to actually good get good customer service.

by:

The hitch is great and works fine, a great fit as well ,easy to install. The wiring leads could be a bit longer

by:

The harness leads to the tail lights are just plain too short. Install is impossible, so I will be making a return.

I know that the harness for the 2023 Kia Optima is tricky to install with fish wiring the wiring through the tail lights. I took a look and I do not have a harness that would install differently. I do have a video install on a 2023 Kia Optima that can help. Please see the link below.

by:
2023 Kia Sportage

Wires are too short and it really makes installation a pain. Both "legs" of the wires that lead to the rear light assemblies of the car are not long enough, especially the single green wire going to the passenger side. But the driver's side is also about 6"short, or at least another 6" would make it easier to install.
Running the power wire to the battery was easier than I anticipated. The toughest part was getting it up from the ground into the engine compartment.
Finally, if you're going to have to splice wires that are exposed, provide heat shrink butt splices so you have a chance of eliminating water and corrosion.

Easy, plug and play. Took no time at a ll

Still working one year later

by:

Great kit. As others have stated, you have to extend the green wire I think. Piece of cake.

by:

My second purchase. Both were easy to install with excellent tutorial videos.

by:
Kia Sportage

easy install has been on the 2024 Kia Sportage for about 2 weeks now and no issues! will do business with this place again!

by:

The packaging was well done and contained all the parts. Shipping arrived accurately and quickly. My only issue is that some of the photos on the instructions were unnecessarily dark, but the written explanation covered the details I needed. In the end, the wiring kit is working just fine!

by:
2023 Kia Sportage

Loved that no spliocing was required to install this wiring kit. My only gripe would be that the left side wires were about 6 inches too short to make mounting the converter box easy and the right side wire needed to be about 2 feet longer to even reach the tail light. Oher than that, was very easy to install.

by:

Great product, super easy to install perfect for what I need

by:
2024 Kia Sportage

Kate F was awesome to work with. items got shipped fast.

by:
2023 Kia Sportage

The green wire from the module to the passenger side tail light was short about 6" so I had to put in a splice to add length. That was disappointing since this was supposed to fit my 2023 Sportage PHEV. Other wise everything was as expected and the installation went smoothly.

by:

This worked great while I had the car

by:
2023 Kia Sportage

Overall, I am satisfied with this wire system. It worked without a real problem. Please know that the instructions are vague and there’s still no videos out there that I have found for the 23’ Kia Sportage. The plug and play connectors are great and make the job easy. My only complaint is that the wires aren’t long enough. The left side connector doesn’t allow for the module to be mounted anywhere because the wires are too short and I’d doesn’t hang down far enough. As a result the flat trailer light connector is also a little short. It reaches only because I have a lot of wire connected to my camper. The right side taillight wires are again too short. It barely reached the taillight connection, it works, but the wire is stretched tight. Let’s hope it doesn’t break. They should really consider adding more wire to each connection. It took me 1.5 hours total. I ran the power wire inside the car under the kick plates to the engine compartment. I didn’t feel like crawling under the car to run it.

by:

Wires too short to passenger side

by:

Easy to install

by:

Great people.

by:

it was a quick simple install.

by:

Have not installed it yet, but it looks like the products are high quality. The hitch shouldn't be a problem, but the instructions for wiring are scattered over three sheets and the instructions for running the power wire from the battery to the taillights needs to have more detail.

by:
2023 Kia Sportage

Fast and easy install with this kit.

by:
2023 Kia Sportage

When ordering the wiring harness I asked about installation. They told me it is a custom harness that just plugs in line with the vehicle brake lights. I received the harness and this is not the case. The rep that initially spoke to me about the harness clearly did not know what they were talking about. Still not that complicated but significantly more complicated than getting an OEM 4 pin connector kit.
