Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located along the frame rail at the rear of your vehicle. The exact location of the port will vary depending on the make, model, and year of your vehicle. Once you've plugged in the connectors, insert the included fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Excellent! The receiver fits perfectly an installation was not too hard. I have a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe sport was originally up in the north east so there was some rust in the holes. If you have a tap and set that would be a good way to just clean them out otherwise a wire round brush and penetrating oil or WD-40 is what I used to clean them out. I used the bolts that came with the receiver and slowly turned them back-and-forth like a tap until the factory holes were cleaned out. The module for the electrical wiring I mounted on the driver side where the bumper is mounted. That way I can get to the fuse if necessary. Make sure you wear safety glasses you will get pieces of dirt and rust in your eye otherwise! I also sprayed the muffler hangers and used a flat tip screwdriver to remove.
Also make sure you follow the instructions for the torque settings!
This receiver and hitch are overkill for what I need super heavy duty!
I am very happy with the product! ??????

Order has been received.
Installation
was completed 3 days later.
The installation video was most helpful on your site.
The followup on the order has also been impressive.
The unit is now in service and operating as described.
This item cost significantly more than an "off the shelf" harness but the extras such as the overload protection module and custom connectors seemed to add value. In fact, I am very pleased thie the unit, process and ease of installation. I would do this again without hesitation and would recommend your site to anyone.
The time and frustration usually dealt with in performing this type of installation in the past make this a very worthwhile investment.

Issues I did experience:
The tracking of the item from shipment and through 3 handling centers in the U.S. took 4 days
The handling of the package once in Canada, through 3 centers took 9. This delay over the border meant that I missed my first opportunity to utilize the vehicle on its' first assignment. Unfortunate but not really a reflection on etrailer.

The mounting bracket ordered did not fit on the trailer hitch I received, which was a round main support with no flat surface for the mount bracket. Once I was able to create a mount location, the next challenge was the extreme pressure needed to seat the electrical socket into the bracket. Eventually this was accomplished. Upon first use, the socket easily slipped back out of the bracket. Reversing the bracket, the result was the same, difficult to insert, easy to push back out. I have made other arrangements without the mounting bracket.

Overall, I am pleased with the result and would do it all again.

Thank you and etrailer for the follow up and the product.

This is my second harness for my Santa Fe. The first died a month ago after 5 years of service. Easy install, connectors fit well. Solved my issue.

Good products, poor communication. Had no idea my order was shipped until I had to mange my order to see that it was shipped. Shipping is slow as my order sat for several days in one location

did not fit my 2022 Kia Sorento, but did fit the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport just fine.
Took right at 30 minutes to install from beginning to end and was very easy to complete.

Plug & play for 2020 Kia Sorento. Dinged a star because the trailer connector does not fit the extra bracket well. It does not appear to have been designed for a bracket mount. I had to force fit and secure in place with a zip tie.

Still working fine. Still bothered about connector fit to bracket.

by:

Fit great! Install is easy once you clean out the holes on the frame. Etrailer hitch and bolts were exactly what was needed.

by:

Great experience from start to finish. Quick delivery. Perfect fit and easy to install within 30 minutes. Routing the wire harness was a bit challenging but it also was a perfect fit. I only have one picture but you can't see the hitch since it is behind the center panel which is exactly what I wanted.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

I recently bought the Curt receiver (p/n C13153) and Tekonsha 4-pin harness (p/n 118269) for use on our new 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Ultimate. We use the hitch to tow a small utility trailer occasionally, and more often use it with a hitch-mounted bike rack. I also ordered a mounting bracket kit and companion adapter plate since I had hoped to have the 4-pin connector mounted to the hitch (v. just zip-tied, etc). For installation of the receiver I dropped the spare tire since it is easy and helps for maneuvering the receiver into place. I did not lower the exhaust. I cleaned the tapped holes in the frame with a spray lube and wire brush prior to mounting, and I think this is a necessary step since a couple of the holes were pretty gunked-up. I checked by running the M10 screws in prior to putting the hitch in place, which I also recommend. I did not have a 2nd person available to help put the receiver in place to install but I had success using a floor jack and a piece of 2x6 to lift the receiver into place and start all the screws. It took a little patience to maneuver past the exhaust but really the fitment of the hitch is very good and it wasn't a bad struggle. A helper is probably the best way to go. As others have said, the videos provided by etrailer.com are really helpful. I finished the hitch installation by torqueing the screws and installing and torqueing the carriage bolts. It is a bit of a job (at least for me) to get the proper torque for the carriage bolts when laying on my back like that, but the overall connection seems super-secure. The spare tire did not interfere with the receiver after installation, though as you'd expect the clearance is small. After the receiver was done I installed the wiring harness. Once again, the video was really helpful and everything went quite smoothly. I found I needed to supply a few of my own zip-ties to secure the wiring to both the hitch and the factory wiring bundle since the provided ones were too short. After this I attempted to mount the 4-pin mounting plate to the hitch but I could not find an orientation that I was happy with and which would not interfere with the removable trim cover for the hitch. On the other hand, I found I was satisfied with leaving the 4-pin connector hooked to the check-chain hole in the receiver, so that is how I will leave it. After finishing the installation I hooked up our trailer. I found that there is a good amount of space in the check-chain openings, at least for our trailer, and the wiring connection (trailer lights) worked perfectly. When I went to install our bike rack I was a little concerned about the space around the hitch hole for the head of the bolt, but when I installed the hitch and anti-rattle bolt the fit was fine. Overall I'm quite happy with the hitch and wiring harness and I'm looking forward to many years of use. As always, etrailer.com was great to deal with and I would always recommend them to anyone looking for towing equipment and accessories.

2014 KiaSorento

Plug and Play on my 2014 Kia Sorento. Plugs right in to the factory pre-wired harness plugs located under a cover behind the left rear wheel. Mounted the electronic box underneath also with a little silicon adhesive on the back. Easy install. Cable tied the rest of the wiring in the bundle as you can see.

Fast easy ordering and shipping as always. It's nice to click on the link in the email they send and go right to the tracking page with the map that shows progress and the details as well. Some sites make you log in again for the same information. Not a big deal, but as you know it's the summation of all the little things done well that make for a good purchase experience.

by:

Product was shipped timely and looks good. etrailer needs to update their online software for address autofill. When my information was autofilled using my paypal account information, it wouldn't enter my complete address. this caused a bit of a hassle with ups but finally got it the day after it was scheduled.

2016 KiaSorento

I installed a curt hitch and wiring harness on my 2016 kia sorento, it took about an hour for me and my son to install them. The curt hitch is very well built, i was actually surprised at the good quality. The instructional videos were very helpful. The etrailer customer service is second to none. The whole experience from shopping to purchase, to installation was really easy. The kia dealership wanted $600.00 to install a hitch, with etrailer i did it for less than $200.00. I would definitely recommended etrailer to a friend.

I was very happy with etrailer.com The items were delivered in 3 days. The wire harness was an easy plug and play. And mounted nicely to the hitch wit items the short mounting bracket and 4-Pole mounting bracket.

by:

Received my Curt custom hitch and wiring harness and had it installed in a hour. There was no need to drop the exhust, I just had to bend the bumper alignment pins down a little and lower the spare tire. The wiring harness was plug and use, so it just required zip ties to keep the wires up and off the exhust. I love the look and fitment very much. If I had anything negative to say. It would be that I wished the 4 pin wiring plug had a bracket to hold it instead of zip ties or just letting it hang. Which I will be buying one and installing it as well. But overall pretty happy with my purchase. Thanks

My local garage put my 2009 Kia Sorento up on the lift and had the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" - 75516 installed in about 25 minutes. It only took that long because they had to dress the threads in my frame with a tap! The wiring kit plugged in and was ready to use!
